Hey guys! Surprise, I'm still around! This is the next installment of The Great Merchandising Wars, enjoy!
As entertaining as watching this little game was, I had had about enough of hearing those idiots bicker back and forth only to act like nothing was going on every time the oblivious redhead came in the room.
So perhaps it was time to step in and shut them all up for a while. I wasn't playing for points, I was playing for shock value and an opportunity to have a bit of fun myself.
Seizing the opportunity of it being just the two of us that afternoon in the penthouse, I smiled.
"Anna, what are you doing today," I asked, knowing for a fact that she had just finished a shift at the hospital and that there was a possible tentative date with Rogers tonight if he got back from HQ in time.
I also knew he would be back and it would throw off Stark's entire day to have him try and leave with her. But more to the point that everyone would be here tonight, as I'm positive that Rogers wouldn't remember what tonight was.
Oh yes this would be perfect, a win-win as I wanted to win my bet with Clint on when Cap would pop the question. He just needed a bit of help and at the very least this would be amusing.
She smiled at me, thinking for a moment before saying, "Ah well not much, today is pretty casual. What's up Nat?"
Checking the clock and noting there was plenty of time for what I had in mind, I smirked at her.
"We're going out, get your bag."
Surprised at the direction she paused a second before smiling again and doing as I said.
"You don't have to be so mysterious you know."
Smirking again I said, "I know, but that's half the fun of it."
With that, I snagged the key to one of Stark's many flashy cars and we were off.
It was pizza night, and pizza night at Avenger's tower basically meant endless food which was a teenage boy's paradise. Mr. Stark had finally invited me over for one of them because he was in an especially good mood, something about winning some bet by five points. I didn't really care why, I was just excited to be here at all as Mr. Stark insisted I wasn't one of the big kids yet.
Getting in the elevator, I was greeted by the familiar AI as he acknowledged my identity. But before I could say anything back to JARVIS, I heard a commotion in the lobby.
"Tasha, are you sure about this," asked a nervous sounding voice.
"Crystal, I'll see you up there. I've got something to get something first," said the second, more confident voice.
Then a short woman entered the elevator and I found any intelligent thought that might have once lived in my head had vacated with no warning.
Not that I had any experience, but I think her dress was the one all the songs talked about, little, black, and I couldn't stop staring.
While I forced myself to look anywhere but at her, the elevator doors closed, and we began the long journey up to the penthouse.
Oh god, why is this my life? I can't talk to normal sleep-deprived high school girls, definitely couldn't talk to girls I liked, so how on earth was it fair to be trapped in an elevator with someone like this?
JARVIS seemed to have been waiting for her as he said, "Good evening Miss Anna, I wasn't aware you were trying to give Captain Rogers a heart attack tonight."
Anna, where had I heard that name before?
She didn't even glance up as she said, "Oh stop that! This is Tasha's doing not mine, ugh this was not at all what I imagined when she said we were going shopping. Oh hello, I don't think we've met."
That's odd, it sounds like she knows JARVIS plenty well.
Oh…she was looking at me.
OH!
Fumbling for anything to say aside from incoherent babbling I looked at her wide-eyed and managed, "Parkerman, no ah, I'm Parker Peter, ah I mean…Peter Parker. That's me."
Shit Parker, why don't you just say Spiderman?
She smiled – oh gosh if it was possible to look sweet in heels that could kill someone she just did – and fiddled with a bracelet that looked well worn.
"So, you are the prized intern then, Tony wants to adopt you I think. I'm his sister Anna."
Well, there goes that, if Mr. Stark knew what I was thinking about his sister then not only would I no longer be a reserve Avenger, he would probably throw me out the window without the suit.
Blinking stupidly at her I nodded.
"Ah, um yeah, yeah that's me. S-so you must know Mr. Stark really well then?"
What the hell kind of question was that? Of course she knew her own brother, just kill me now. Maybe JARVIS could zap me with some kind of death ray?
She paused and glanced down. Of course, she doesn't know how to respond to such stupidity, she's probably thinking of how to tell her brother that he hired an idiot.
"Ah, I don't always dress like this," she said, that nervous tone back in her voice.
Wait…she sounded almost as awkward as I felt. Was that even possible?
Chancing a look at her, I found my gaze drawn to her face. It was slowly matching her hair and it was fricking adorable.
"My friend Tasha, she insisted on getting this for me. I have no clue why but I think she's trying to help my boyfriend out. They all think he's going to propose, and I ah, I want that too don't get me wrong but…this isn't what I'd normally wear to pizza night and while I really like this dress I just know everyone will stare and…" she trailed off with a sigh, seeming to have lost her train of thought.
Oh my god…she was almost as awkward as I am!
She speaks your language, you can do this!
Giving her a tentative smile, I said, "Sounds ah, like a mess. Now I feel underdressed for pizza night, should I go get my suit? My normal suit, not that I have a not normal one! What's a not normal suit, I wouldn't know. That's just crazy…"
Dammit Parker, just shut up!
But I forgot how stupid I was when she started to laugh, and then I felt even stupider because I couldn't stop from smiling at the sound.
"You're cute Peter, I can see why Tony likes you so much," she said. "But I'm the overdressed one, maybe I can sneak to my room before anyone notices."
Just as she said this, the doors dinged open.
Seeing no one, she peered out and motioned for me to follow.
"Everyone is on the balcony," she whispered, nodding to the opened glass window where a group of people were. "I'll be back, you head on over okay? Just don't mention I was here and I'll deal with Tasha later."
I nodded, deciding that maybe I could live this down and make a better impression on her when she came back.
"Sure, ah I'm really good at keeping secrets."
She just smiled and turned to go.
Mr. Stark should've at least mentioned he had a sister, much less one as cute at that!
I sighed and started to follow the smell of food.
Oh, this was golden, I hadn't counted on the kid being here. But she was not about to ruin this moment.
"ANNA! There you are, pizza night was starting to be a bit too full of testosterone for my tastes. Get over here."
Having called everyone's attention to her, I got exactly the reaction I was hoping for and more.
Stark looked like he wanted to scream but couldn't make a sound, Banner was looking a bit green but not dangerously so, Clint just nodded in admiration at my power play while also looking a bit peeved I hadn't told him what I was doing, but I think Rogers won the night with the way his jaw dropped and a glazed over look entered his eyes as he stared at his girlfriend.
One look in her eyes and she knew that I wasn't going to let her escape and reluctantly she started over to the balcony with a very awkward kid trailing behind her.
Before Stark could blow his top at the perfect little black dress and killer red heels I'd picked out for her, I grabbed the nail in the coffin and walked over to her.
Grinning at her glare, I handed her a black leather jacket as I said, "Here, you'll get cold. I grabbed this a while back and it'll match perfectly."
"You are evil," she whispered sharply.
"Tell me you don't absolutely love that dress and you can go change," I said with a raised brow, smiling as defeat entered her expression.
Putting on the form-fitting jacket, I knew that this would shut them all up for a while.
Very understated but very much there, was my Widow symbol on the belt of it as she zipped it up as far as the dress would allow.
The dress was just enough of her style and mine, she was a bombshell, and everyone knew it.
Smirking as she awkwardly headed towards Rogers, I eyed the poor kid that I hadn't figured on.
"Go eat, Stark ordered an entire pizzeria. And don't worry, she likes you Parker. Just try not to stare or you'll have half the team on your ass, got it?"
I almost laughed at his flustered glance at Anna and then to the floor.
"Y-yes Ma'am, I ah…I'm gonna go drown myself in pizza," he stuttered, before going straight for the food as Stark stalked over to me with a death glare that was almost laughable.
"What the hell is this?!" he hissed at me.
Turning to look at him, I raised a brow once more.
"Just showing you how it's done, now I believe that puts me in first place as I just might have given Rogers the balls to think about asking a certain question," I said, nodding to just how Blue Eyes was looking at her, like that of a lovestruck fool. Everyone had a hand in the betting pool for just when that day would be was, and Stark was no exception. I watched him gape at the couple for a moment before going to go get a slice of pizza and leave him to stew on the fact that I had just overturned his little game.
Oh, this would be fun.
So I know everyone who follows me was probably wanting the next chapter to TTAD and I'm sorry it's been so long. I really am, life has gotten new levels of insane and I really just don't have as much time anymore. But I am still writing and I'll try to work on a few more one-shots and see about getting those out sometime soon. I'll try to put an update on my life on my profile in the next few days so you can read it if you want to. But I have several original works in the process for my creative writing portfolio in my degree so hopefully, soon I can tell you all that I've got something big finished! And I might just start posting some unfinished stuff that I probably won't revisit for a while but think you all might like. Hope you're all having a great semester, we're almost to summer! Thanks for sticking with me, love you all! ^~^
