Hey guys! So this is an old draft I found that I thought I would share with you as we are approaching Halloween. I hope you enjoy!
It was another lovely day in Asgard and I was looking for something to do. I wasn't due to meet my brothers for another hour, so I was left to my own devices. Roaming the halls I stopped at a large window and gazed out at the beauty that was my realm.
I loved my home, the great palace was a sight to behold to be sure but it was my family that made me truly happy. And I could really say that now, no more feeling I was invisible or unimportant, not since my brothers realized how miserable I was. In the years that followed their realization that I was not the fragile thing they thought me to be our relationship was strengthened tenfold, I regularly had sparing sessions with Thor and my lessons in magic with Loki had progressed to some of the most difficult practices know to our kind.
Due to this, I had become quite proficient in most forms of combat, blade, bow, hand to hand, Thor was insistent on seeing that I knew a bit of everything. As for Loki, well safe to say under his tutelage I'd come to be almost as much of a trickster as he was. He still remained the most troublesome of the three of us but now it was just as often for me to be the one causing mischief as he.
There was not much going on in the palace today, so I decided to seek out my brothers early.
Thinking Loki would most likely be in the library I headed there first and upon entering I smiled at my correct guess. My raven-haired brother was sitting at one of the many study tables in the vast room, frowning at something sitting on the table in front of him. Curious I sat opposite him and tilted my head to get a better look at what was troubling him.
My eyes widened in surprise when I saw what it was. It was a summoning stone, a small rock covered in ancient runes that all described what Loki was best known for. The runes glowed green, pulsing slightly.
Summoning stones were mostly obsolete now, only back when Midgardians still worshiped the Aesir as deity did they get much use. All higher-ranking Asgardians had one, the older and more well-known were the only ones that had ever really seen any use out of them though. I knew I had one, but next to no one off of Asgard even knew of my existence so it had never been used.
"Are you going to answer it," I asked, biting back a laugh as my brother started at my sudden appearance.
"I should have never taught you the silencing charm," he said, narrowing his eyes playfully.
Moving to sit across from him, I smiled and looked back at the glowing stone.
What a curious thing it was, this was a connection to Midgard! I wonder if it only worked for the person it belonged to, for I should very much like to meet a human.
What could it hurt? If it didn't work then I would only have my brother laugh at me, and if it did I would get to go on an adventure no matter how short it would be cut by Loki.
In an instant, I reached out and snatched the stone.
It was almost if everything slowed down, I could see Loki trying to reach across the table, but he moved so slowly that by the time he'd come around it was too late. The library faded out of sight, as did my now very upset brother. It didn't quite feel like traveling by Bifrost, this was darker and very cold. It occurred to me that I should probably be afraid but I was too excited at the prospect of meeting someone of Midgard for the first time to even consider it.
Blinking as the darkness disappeared, I saw that I was standing in a grassy clearing in a forest. My first thought was that it was not much different than say Vanaheim, my second was how pretty I found it. Then as I looked at the ground I noticed the circle of strange symbols I was standing in the middle of, I reasoned they must have been part of the summoning magic.
"Blimey! It actually worked!"
Whirling around, I came face to face with two people.
My first Midgardians!
Taking a moment to study them, I took a good look at who it was that was trying so hard to summon my brother. The two boys, twins I'm assuming, were almost identical but there were subtle differences. Both had shocking red hair, something that was very uncommon on Asgard, and sparkling brown eyes that looked at me with the same fascination that was I'm sure mirrored in my own eyes.
I guessed they couldn't be more than twelve or thirteen, of course I was much older physically but if you were comparing ages in a mortal sense I was only around eighteen or nineteen myself. And I could sense magic thrumming strongly within them, some type of Midgardian magic user I suppose, Loki had said there was a small contingent left.
The main differences I could see right off was that one of them had a slightly upturned nose, a bit like mine, he had higher cheekbones sharpening his features and very straight lips that were curved up in a smile. The other had more of a downward slant to his nose, there was a mole on his neck, and his lips had a distinct curve to them, almost heart like. And both had a nice spattering of freckles across their faces, it was endearing in a way.
I opened my mouth to say something but the pixie nosed one beat me to it.
"I thought Loki was a bloke. Do you go round as a woman sometimes? I read somewhere that you do."
I bit back a laugh, Loki had indeed done that before and it was always so funny to see him defend why he'd done it. Just as I was about to tell them I wasn't actually Loki, the other one widened his eyes and thumped his brother on the back of the head.
"You can't just ask that! Don't be a prat when's he's…er she's just got here."
I did laugh this time and smiled at them.
"It is okay, you meant no offense."
I tried taking a step forward but found the circle I was in restrained me, frowning I started at it for a moment and then looked back at the two boys expectantly.
"Would you mind?"
The one with fuller lips stepped forward cautiously and kicked the dirt, breaking the circle and the enchantment. Slowly I stepped out of the circle and stretched, both of them took a large step backward as I did.
Eyes hopeful and a small smile on his face, pixie nose took a tiny step closer to me.
"I'm Fred and this is George. We've been trying to summon you for a while now, we're tricksters too you see."
I tilted my head, what interesting names, no one on Asgard had names like that.
Smiling I curtsied and bowed my head ever so slightly, intending to treat these strangers as I would any other foreigner visiting the palace.
"A pleasure to meet you both. I am…"
I trailed off, thinking of their reaction that they'd summoned the wrong person. But I knew I had to be honest, I wasn't that much like Loki.
"I am Annalise Odinsdottir, Loki who you were seeking, is my brother."
Their faces fell disappointedly and I took another step forward hesitantly.
"But as his little sister, I picked up many of his tricks. What is it you wished of him? I will do my best to help you."
They looked at each other seeming to have a silent conversation before turning back to me.
Fred looked skeptically at me.
"Never heard of you before, didn't know Loki had a sister."
I sighed sadly, of course, no one had heard of me.
"I'm not as well-known as my brothers, I get overlooked or forgotten entirely most of the time."
It was true, both Loki and Thor had many legends and stories told about them. Not that I was jealous but it would have been nice to be known.
George smiled shyly up at me.
"You have magic like your brother?"
Brightening, I raised a hand and let a very simple blue flame dance across my palm. Both of them stepped closer with wide eyes.
"I do indeed. He taught me almost everything I know."
Ginning at me, in unison they asked, "What do you know about pranking?"
So I had ideas to continue this as I did with the with DC and Supernatural one-shots but I'm not sure if I will or not. This is connected to the one-shots where Anna is Thor and Loki's little sister, I really enjoy that version of her and it's fun to play with that world. So possibly this will be continued if there's interest and if I have time.
In other news, I am in the process of editing my main story! Finally, I know. For some reason it isn't sending out update emails when I just replace a chapter, I think I would have to delete it completely and make new chapters. I'm hesitant to do that, so I'm letting you know here that I'll be updating chapters hopefully once a week or every two weeks until it is all edited. I would like to have it all done by the end of the year but we'll see. All the edits seem to double in length with how much I'm adding to them.
I would love to hear any thoughts on this and see what you guys think of TTAD 2.0! I hope you all have an awesome Halloween (if you celebrate or do anything for it) and are having a great school year!
