Damien awoke to Alice shaking him. "Hey we're here, Damien." He looked out the window, at the area, seeing a small pink station, surrounded by fields. "C'mon." She pulled his paw, leading him off the train.
"Did you tell your family that I was coming?" he asked as he shook his head. The sun was already up, and the air felt clean and crisp. This isn't too bad, this area. He didn't see anyone around the area other than some distant forms in the fields.
"Yeah, I told my family I was bringing a friend, but I didn't tell them about you." she said as she looked down a dirt road. "I think you'll have to sit in the back cause we have a rabbit size car, it's a good thing your smaller than most wolves."
"What's that supposed to mean Fluff?" he said with a smirk. He grabbed her bag, "Do we start walking down the road or what?"
"No, we just have to wait a few minutes for my dad." she was nervous with the way her dad might react to Damien. She wished Damien would be close to her like when they were on the train. The thought made her blush. She wondered if he remembered it, though she doubted it cause he was asleep.
"You okay Fluff?" Damien poked her in the forehead, causing her to snap out of her thought process.
Before she could answer, they heard a engine, a old red truck was pulling up to the station, her father stepping out of the truck. The two walked over to the truck. Her dad had a grim face. She jogged ahead of Damien and hugged her dad. "Hi, Dad."
"Hey my little traveler." He spoke in a slow and calculated way. When she hugged him, he whispered in her ear, "Hey who is the wolf?" she pulled away and gave her dad a look. "It's my friend Damien, the one I had told you about."
Damien felt a little strange watching the whole thing. He'd never really been close like that even with GG, he kept to himself. When he was younger he was close like that with his mom...but things are different now.
The dad looked at him and walked towards Damien, who offered his paw, "Hi, sir, how are you?"
He could see the dad looking at him, trying to figure him out. He took Damien's paw and shook it, "I'm good, what's your name?"
"My name is Damien Wolfsbane, Mr. O'Hare." As he released his paw.
The older hare smiled at him, "Nobody's called me Mr. O'Hare in awhile. Just call me Herman, son." Damien smiled and nodded his understanding. "You guys ready to head out?" Her dad asked, clapping his paws together.
Damien put the stuff in the back and sat on the end of the tailgate, causing the truck to become weighed down, Alice smiled at him letting him know everything was okay. Her and her dad climbed into the truck and started to drive away from the station.
"Why didn't you tell me that you would bring him?" Herman asked his daughter.
"Cause I was nervous that you would say no." She said look at him. "I know how you feel about predators but Damien is different...even at school he's not like everyone else." She turned to look at Damien, who was looking at all the fields pass by, all the other bunnies and hares in the field were looking up and staring at their truck.
"Look at everyone...this is also why I would've said no. Cause people like talk and this is a small community." he motioned around to the area with his hand.
For some reason, the sentence bothered her. And without thinking she responded, "Is that all you care about? What other people think?" she was surprised at her little outburst.
Her dad didn't look at her, "Where did that come from?" he asked her.
"In Zootopia, everyone is told its okay to be different. If Damien had cared about what everyone thought, then I probably would've gotten hurt that day." she said looking out the window.
Herman looked at his daughter, seeing that she had grown in just the little bit she'd been in the city. But then she was also still young and naive. He didn't say anything as they pulled into the yard of their house. Where am I supposed to have Damien sleep?
When they stopped, Damien climbed out and saw all kinds of other bunnies run up to the truck from a brown house. All the little ones stopped when they saw him. He panicked a little. Until Alice came out and motioned to Damien, "Everyone! This is my friend Damien, he came to see Bunnyburrow, he's never been outside the city. Please make him feel welcome." That's when all the little bunnies ran towards her and him. They crowded her and began hugging her.
He smiles at them as the bunnies walk up to him. He crouches down and the little bunnies came up to him, trying to touch his fur. All of them asked him questions, "How old are you?" "Are your teeth sharp?" He felt someones paws pulling on his ear. Damiens turns his head to see a small rabbit on his shoulder, who was looking at his ear.
Herman was watching how Damien was with the little ones, last thing he needed was him hurting them. But he wouldn't say that out loud.
Alice pulled the little bunny off his shoulder, "Sorry Damien."
Damien smiles and asks, "Who is this?" looking down at the little bunny.
"This is Eddie." She said as she pulled him close and hugged the little bunny. Eddie continued to try and get to Damien, who just smiled.
Alice grabbed Damiens paw as she held Eddie, "C'mon lets go inside so you can meet my mom." He felt nervous, at the thought of her dad seeing him like that, holding her paw. He shook his head, why did he have that thought?
He ducked his head as he walked in the doorway. Damien saw a cream colored bunny with a blue apron, chopping vegetables. He saw her eyes widen at the sight of him standing there. She looked at Alice, and at him; he's sees her eyes drift to his and Alice's paws. Then she smiled and opened her arms hugging Alice and then hugging him. Damien could feel his cheeks getting warm, a little perplexed at the hug.
"Are the two of you hungry?" her mom asked them. Damien nods and looks around the room for the table. "Looking for the table?" Her mom asks.
"Yes ma'am." Damien answers sheepishly.
"Oh your so nice, please don't call me "ma'am" you'll make me feel old. Just call me, Ellie. Alice will you please show Damien where the table is?" she smiles at Damien turned away and continued to chop vegetables.
Alice puts Eddie down on the couch and grabs Damiens paw again, leading out the a door in the back of the house, where there was a long table covered in various plates of food. He saw smaller bunnies eating, laughing. The sight made him happy but he also felt a small twinge of sadness in his heart. "You okay Damien?" Alice asks.
Damien looks down at her, "Yeah I am, Fluff. I was just enjoying the sight of your family." Deep down, Alice knew what he meant...he had lost his family, he had GG and his sister, and he loved them she could tell he wasn't as happy as he could be.
"Well when your here...you can be part of our family. We look different on the outside but our hearts are the same." Alice said, her blue eyes connecting with his.
He broke the eye contact, "Okay Fluff." he played with her ears.
Herman had been watching them from the doorway. He felt unease at the way the two looked and acted with each other. He could see something blossoming. "What are you looking at?" Ellie asked, putting a hand on her husbands shoulder.
"Look at the way they are." he points at the two as they walk over to table and sit next to each other.
Ellie pulls Herman to the kitchen, and asks, "What's wrong with it?" she begins to puts baked carrots in a plate.
"Really? You have to ask? Your okay with a predator being with our daughter?" he asks.
She gives him a look, "I'm not saying I'm all for it. They don't even realize that they like each other. Love can take many forms, honey, even you know that. It wasn't easy for us either."
Herman shakes his head, "I know it wasn't but this is different from us, it's predator and prey."
Ellie stops him from saying more by handing him the plate. "Herman their young, Let them figure it out. What you fear happening may never happen. Just remember what it was like for us."
At the table Damien had starting playing tag with the little rabbits, pretending to run really slow and let them gather at his ankles as he tried to walk with them. Alice watched him with the little ones, he was good with kids. Anybody that him for a mate would be lucky to have him. She knew that her dad was hesitant about Damien, and she wasn't worried that Damien would give him reason to.
Damien was worried on the inside about what he might've brought on this family by coming her...his dad may come here...or worse he would send people here to scare them. But in that moment playing with the little bunnies and seeing Alice...he felt no fear. He had slept good on the train...all he could remember feeling was someone holding his paw, and a calming presence, Alice's scent..but other than that...he mentally shrugged; it was probably just a dream.
In Zootopia...a badger walked into the bar, heading to the dark corner, seeing only one person other than the bartender. "You the guy looking for me?" he asked in a gruff voice as he sat down.
The wolf nodded at him, "I heard you can take care of something for me."
The badger chuckled, "Me? Look at you, whatever it is. You could probably take care of it yourself."
The wolf snarled, standing up and grabbing the badger by his throat. "I know I can take care of it myself. But as of right now i need some help." The badger saw the sharp teeth of the wolf and felt the paw tighten around his throat.
Choking, the badger asks, "What..Do...You..Need?"
The wolf dropped him, letting him breath. He pulled out a envelope and dropped it on the floor in front of the badger. "There's money in there to get you started when you finish I'll pay you the other half." he sat back down, sipping at his dark drink.
The badger looked at the money that filled the envelope. Thumbing through it he found a picture of a wolf, which seemed smaller than most, with a scar on his cheek. "This the guy?" he asks.
The wolf nods, "There's another photo of a bunny that hangs around him. I want you to go after her first, scare her and her family. Do you use your claws?" The wolf asks motioning to the badgers paws.
The badger smiles, "It's part of the reason I'm in this business. I enjoy it." he point to the wolf and the bunny. "Where can I find them?"
The wolf's smile gives the badger chills. "Someone told me their in Bunnyburrow."
