Hello everyone! Welcome to Well What's His Name! A cute little one-shot of Rafael and Olivia's relationship that I had a lot of fun writing! Anyway, here's the disclaimer that I don't own any characters from Law and Order: SVU they all belong to the writers and it's just my job to misinterpret everything just the way I want it:)

Please enjoy Well What's His Name!

ADA Rafael Barba has had a terrible day. Not only did most of the cases brought to him not have enough evidence, but he was sandbagged in two different trials by two different lawyers. Not to mention the judge in another trial decided he wouldn't listen to any of Rafael's objections while Buchanan absolutely killed one of his more credible witnesses. The faster this week-…no, the month was over the happier the man would be.

Rafael decided to skip his apartment entirely and instead detoured to his girlfriend's apartment. They had been dating ever since she stormed into his office and demanded that he allow her to take him on a date before she went crazy and all he could do was nod. From there, their professional and personal relationships developed simply. Rafael almost found it comical how different she was on the job versus on a day off.

On the job, she was all business, blunt and aggressive when the time called for it, and whenever he would have to sit in on an interview there were several times he almost pitied the criminal that sat across from her. Her intensity was the reason that she collared so many disgusting low lives, and her take-no-crap attitude won her a lot of friends and a lot of enemies.

And her exact opposite is only when she gets a day off. He quickly discovered she was quite lazy, really liked physical affection when it was just the two of them, and would let him pick movies, food, and places to go. And even though she was lazy she wasn't satisfied staying in the apartment for long hours like he was, and instead insisted on going on walks or finding new places to see. It was endearing how excited she was to get to know the city that she had lived in practically her whole life.

After a short ride in a taxi, Rafael finally pulled up to her building. He had a key so he didn't bother buzzing in and headed upstairs in the elevator. If he had attempted the stairs, he guessed that he would've fallen and not got back up because of his bone-deep exhaustion. When he entered the apartment without knocking, he was puzzled to find it empty. "Liv?" He called.

"Just a minute!" She replied from the bathroom.

He chalked it up to her having to go to the bathroom and started to hang his coat by the door. "How was work?" She asked through the door.

"Don't even get me started!"

"You're gonna start anyway so you might as well be out with it!" She snarked and he rolled his eyes with a small smile.

"I feel like you're the only intelligent police officer in this entire city!" He shouted as he poured himself a glass of scotch and sat on the couch to wait.

There was a moment of silence from the bathroom before he heard the door open. "Well, I don't know how intelligent you'll think I am after I tell you about what happened today."

Immediately Rafael stood up and whirled around to look at her, thinking he meant she got injured or something terrible had happened. He hadn't heard from her for most of the evening since he had three back to back trials and an arraignment between lunch and his sorry excuse for a dinner. But as he looked at her, she was smiling and her pajama shirt and soft sweatpants were covered in water. "Uh, why are your clothes soaking wet?" He asked as he got a hold of himself.

Olivia scratches the back of her neck, "well, before I answer that I should probably tell you about my day."

Rafael raises an eyebrow, "ok?"

Olivia took a deep breath before launching into her story, "so today was hectic as I'm sure yours was. We had five new cases, some reporter snuck into the precinct when we weren't looking and snapped some photos of confidential evidence, and a couple of unis messed up a crime scene cuz they didn't seal it correctly so you're going to have fun with that tomorrow."

She chuckled before continuing, "a victim recanted and then recanted the recant so we had to take a whole new statement and five witnesses contradict each other on every single detail so we have five different sketches and need more corraborations to confirm a suspect, and a druggie crashed in the holding cell so we had to rush him to the ER where he claimed that Nick sexually assaulted him in the ambulance but then recanted that so it was just…a lot to deal with.

"And so after all of that I decided to walk most of the way home, and I picked up some Italian on the way here so there's lasagna in the fridge that I haven't had a chance to eat. Anyway, on my way home I thought I heard something in an alley, and before you scold me about going into an alley at first I thought it was a kid crying or something and…well, it wasn't." She chuckled again but this time it was extremely nervous and she scratched the back of her neck again.

Rafael touched her elbow and took her hand off the back of her neck. "If you keep doing that I'm going to start feeling an itch on the back of my neck, mi amor. What are you so nervous about?"

Olivia smiled before leading him to the closed bathroom door and opening it to reveal what she was hiding. A small shaggy puppy was rolling around in a pile of towels.

Wait.

PUPPY!?

"Where on Earth did you get a puppy!?"

Olivia walked into the bathroom and scooped up the little thing in her arms. "I went into the alley behind the Italian place after I heard the crying and this little thing was in a box all alone. He was filthy so I took him to the vet a few blocks away and they cleaned him up, gave him all his shots, and checked him against missing pets and everything. Nobody reported him missing so they let me take him home. I wanted to talk to you first before I put in a microchip." She turned her big brown eyes onto him and Rafael already knew he was done for.

"Olivia, how are we going to take care of a puppy?" He tried to stay strong as both sets of brown eyes pleaded with him. God, the dog was already ganging up on him.

"Well we have to potty train him of course, but when I was coming in with him today my neighbor Mrs. Dune thought he was adorable and offered to take care of him when we're gone."

Dios mio she already thought of this!? And seriously?! Their neighbor was helping her with this!? "Mi amor, a puppy is a lot…" He protested weakly.

The puppy started to squirm so Olivia set him down and he teetered over to Rafael's feet. The little thing stood on his back legs and put his front paws on the man's leg, lightly pawing at him. Rafael's heart both broke and swelled at the same time as he groaned and picked the baby up. He cradled him to his chest and watched as he yawned before closing his eyes. Rafael looked up at his love, her brown eyes so full of love and adoration so all Rafael can do it sigh. "Well? What's his name?"

Olivia squealed excitedly and kissed him, "how about Mateo?"

Rafael didn't even want to know how she came up with that name but he looked down at the sleeping puppy and smiled. "Alright, Mateo it is."
