The Everlasting Road

Chapter 5

Author's Note: The first time I posted this chapter I didn't notice I had already used Rose and Dimitri as a plot line, so I decided to switch them with Jesse and Avery instead so that's why I'm reposting this.

Fresh mountain air hit Adrian in the nostrils as he stepped off of the bus to where he would be staying for the next two months. Exhaling sharply, he went over to where a large group of campers formed waiting for what he assumed was possibly their room assignments. Great. The last thing he felt like was sharing a cabin with several other dudes for the summer, but only time would be able to tell he guessed

"Alright guys I have your room assignments right here. Line on up to get yours."

Adrian did as instructed wanting nothing more than to get his room assignment as Pastor Sage passed out the room assignments finally getting to Adrian and giving him a firm smile that Adrian didn't trust for a second. There was something about this guy. He just wasn't sure what it was.

"Everyone should have their room assignments by now, so please go to your respected room and introduce yourselves to your cabin mates and we'll see you guys at 7 for our first dinner. Enjoy and remember to have fun, but not too much fun. Remember that there's always someone watching here."

The campers dispersed as Adrian walked through them to get to his cabin. He swore he couldn't get there fast enough. He didn't want to be here, and he didn't want to interact with any other camper. All he wanted to do was get to his bunk and sleep for the rest of the day until something actually interesting happened.

Opening his cabin door, Adrian stepped into his room as his eyes focused on his three bunk mates. How the hell had they beat him here?

"Hey man, what's up?" A red headed guy asked jumping down from top bunk and extending his hand.

"Just settling in, I'm Adrian." He answered shaking the guy's hand.

"Mason."

"So, what are you in for?"

"Parents sent me here after my girlfriend died from one of our binders. They call, it a punishment, but I'm actually glad they sent me here."

"Why is that?"

"Because it allows me to process my grief in a constructive way. Trust me when I say that it'll help you too."

"I doubt that, but thanks for the vote of confidence." He responded giving his best fake smile to Mason as he noticed one guy in the corner as another guy stood beside him. They seemed to be having a very intense conversation as Adrian cleared his throat causing them to turn their attention to him.

"So, are you two going to introduce yourselves or are you going to sit there having a private conversation for the rest of the night?"

The other one looked at the black haired one as he nodded and got up to introduce himself.

"I'm Jesse and this is Christian. It's nice to meet you."

"So, what's your deal?"

"Obviously we're here for the same reason you are, you don't need to know anything more than that." Christian spat as he retreated back to his bunk wanting to be left alone.

"Ignore Christian he's still a little sensitive."

"Fuck you Zeklos "

"See sensitive."

Giving Jesse the finger, Christian returned to sulking as Jesse rolled his eyes and went back to his bunk pulling out a book Adrian didn't recognize as Adrian itched to go outside so he could have some form of release.

"I'll be back. I need a smoke."

"It'll get better, Adrian." Mason replied making him give him a strange look.

"What will get better?"

"The cravings. The need to put those substances in your body. It'll pass eventually. You just got to keep your hope up." Mason answered with a smile.

"Says the guy who's relapsed three times." Christina muttered as Adrian grabbed his cigarettes and walked out the door not wanting to see how Mason would respond to that.

Adrian took a cigarette out of his pack and lit it up as he exhaled letting the nicotine calm his nerves. This place for sure was getting him stressed. How the hell was he supposed to survive this when he had no intention of getting better in the first place.

"Adrian Ivashkov is that you?" a familiar female voice asked as Adrian turned around and a huge smile spread across his face when he saw who it was.

"Lissa Dragomir. What the fuck are you doing here?" he said giving her a hug as she smiled at him.

"Oh, you know. My foster parents caught me shooting up again so they decided to send me to church camp so I could, and I quote 'Find Jesus' Can you believe that bullshit?"

"And you just so happened to drag Avery here with you while you were at it?" Adrian asked giving a slight nod of the head to Avery who only waved at him smiling slightly.

"Nah, Avery is here because she took one hit of the Mary Jane I had, and her mother went haywire. She's probably the most innocent out of all of us here." Lissa answered for her as Avery gave an exaggerated eye roll to show her annoyance.

"Well welcome to the circus Avery. I hope it's everything you expect it to be and more."

"It'll be a fascinating experience that's for sure."

Lissa and Adrian laughed as she pulled her attention back to Adrian smiling at him." So why are you here stranger? I didn't take you for the church camp going type."

"I overdosed and my mom sent me here to try to straighten me out. It's kind of a waste of fucking time if you ask me. As if singing campfire songs, we'll help me remain sober. It's like my mother hasn't known a drug addict all her life and I'm her first encounter."

"Tough break bro. If it makes you feel better, I'm glad you're here. You'll definitely make this experience more enjoyable that's for sure."

"Right back at you Dragomir. Just don't be a stranger while you're here. There's safety in numbers."

"I was going to suggest that our cabins get together tonight. You know put some fun into this boring ass camp."

"Is that allowed?"

"Not sure, but do you really care?"

"Not really no."

"Good than I'll see you and your cabin mates tonight." Lissa said with a wink as she left with Avery letting Adrian know that this will be a much better experience than he was expecting.
