Damien rubbed the back of his head and turned away as Alice looked at the photo. She could see a younger Damien without a scar on his face and behind him a white fox and a large black gruff looking wolf. Alongside Damien was his sister who was more fox like in look and size with her grey fur. "Hey Damien who is the white fox?"

He looked at her with sad eyes, but she saw him steel himself, as he looked away from her. "it's my mom."

Alice looked at the picture intently, she could see the similarities in him and the black wolf. "I'm guessing that the black wolf is your dad?" she saw him nod, looking as if he was in a trance.

He shook his head, trying to clear his head. Damien could feel his heartbeat speeding up. His mind was spinning...'C'mon man.' His tail flicked and he sat down next to her. "My dad...killed my mom...right in front of me."

Alice's heart dropped instantly...she looked up at his, and he seemed to be sweating and if it was possible, he looked like he was gonna puke. Damien was visibly shaking. She put her paw on his shoulder and felt him flinch from her touch. There were no words...nothing that she would be able to tell him to make him feel better...it all made sense.

Suddenly Damien surprised her when he wrapped his arms around her, his muscular arms gently squeezing her. He continued to shake as she slowly put her arms around him. She wanted to cry for him, wanted to heal him. "I'm sorry, Damien." it's all she could say. In that moment, she realized that her whole life was happy, with nothing wrong, nothing that scarred her like Damien.

He pulled away from her after a few minutes of her stroking his fur as she held him. He avoided looking her in the eye as he spoke, "My mom sacrificed herself when he lost his cool...he was always like that, he had a blood-lust, and he turned it on me, his own son..." his paws clenched. "He gave me this scar on my face, beating me and close to death when she came in and tried to stop him. In the end...it was her last act as my mom."

Alice felt hot tears well up at the corners of her eyes, when she felt his warm paws, cupping her face and using his thumb to wipe the tears away slowly. "Why are you crying?" He looked at her so genuinely, almost like when she first met him.

"I-I'm crying be-" he stopped her with a finger to his lips. "Stop. It's okay."

She could smell his scent of pine, it made her feel safe. It was so strange, she was supposed to comfort him but here he was doing it for the both of them.

He closed his eyes and put his forehead to hers. But just as suddenly, he pulled away from her and stood up. "I'm sorry about that..." He seemed more reserved now, she could feel a tension between the two of them, something that both of them were really afraid to admit or take a step towards. "Alice, my dad...was released from jail and he returned to Zootopia, that's why there was scratches on GG's door. And that's who sent the badger to get your dad or me."

Alice had suspected something along these lines, but had hoped it wasn't real. "I'm a hazard to you and your family. All my dad wants is to finish what he started."

"That's one thing your right about, son.." a deep voice said.

The two turned to see Herman looking at the both of them, "I figured someone was after you, when the badger had mentioned that someone had sent him." Damien started to say something, when Herman held up his hand, "I'll allow you to stay here for the night but tomorrow, I'm afraid, you'll have to leave." Alice stood and when her dad just looked at her, "As for you...you can't be friends with him, at least while he's in danger."

Damien simply nodded and walked away, heading to the closet on the other side of the house to get his stuff. Alice walked up to her dad, "You can't do this...it won't help him, it'll just put a bigger target on his back."

Herman shook his head, "Darling, I can't stake the lives of your momma and siblings on one wolf."

She knew what he meant and it infuriated her, "Just cause he's a predator doesn't make him any different from us, Dad. He bleeds, he hurts, he feels, and he saved you from that badger, who could've done more to you, if he hadn't gone to save you."

"Why do you feel it's your job to protect him?" her dad asked fearing the answer.

Alice knew the answer too, and she wondered if she should lie or tell the truth...take the leap or don't? "It's because I...have. No...I like Damien, I don't know if it's love but I have feelings for him, I...know it's something that is frowned upon b-"

"STOP!" Herman spoke loudly, "No, you can't." he shook his head repeatedly, as if he was trying to shake the words she said out of his head. Alice wanted Damien to be hear to hear what she had to say, and so she could know how he really felt...it was the one thing she wanted to know the most.

Damien had been listening to what Alice had been saying and it made him happy but he instantly felt a pang of guilt as he realized what would happen, people would hate both of them, shame them, could she take that? Could their possible love endure? It was scary thought, something that required trust but right now...he couldn't do it. There was too much going on, besides he wasn't wanted here. He put on his backpack and climbed out the window, he could hear Alice and her dad arguing. But he just ignored it, he would have to go back to the city. Damien knew what and who awaited him there...could he really face him? Had he really grown, or was he still the same scared little pup?

Alice walked towards her room, almost in tears when she saw a window in the hallway open and the closet at the end of the hall was open. She rushed to the doorway to see Damien's backpack was gone. It hit her...he left. It hurt...there was no goodbye, no note; he just left. She looked from the window, hoping to see his shadow in the night. She ran to her room and looked at her phone, seeing no messages. It left her confused...why?

She grabbed her jacket and a backpack filled with some warmer clothes, and returned to the window, and leaped through it. She could see the faint pawprints of Damiens feet and she followed him, determined to get an answer to the question that plagued her so much.

An hour later...

Damien saw the train station's lights in the distance, as he sensed someone behind him. He didn't turn around knowing who it was. "What are you doing here, Fluff?"

"I came here to ask you something..." she asked, looking at him intently and starting to walk up to him.

"Does it have to do with what you told your dad?" he asked, still not turning.

She stopped, "You heard?" Alice saw him nod. "Then what do you think Damien?"

He turned to her, and looked at her softly.."I think...that we shouldn't talk for awhile."
