Chapter 2: Grimm Reality
The Nu-class shuttle trembled as it left hyperspace entering a system in the Unknown Regions. The Clones sat inside the ship's cargo bay talking to each other keeping their minds distracted from the battle ahead. Soon many ships followed the first as they all came to the unknown system. These were the men sent to capture the stranded General Grievous. The admiral provided as many troops as possible as they dealt with the remaining droids on Utapau.
"Alright boys," a voice materialized through their helmets internal speakers, it was that of the pilot up front." We have arrived at the admiral's coordinates. Replicating visuals on your HUD now." A shaded image of lone planet manifested in front of their eyes. The troopers looked over the planet not finding anything special about it. Until something caught the eye of one of them.
"What in the…" Specialist CT-1070 'Blaze' muttered not knowing what he was looking at. The moon it was odd to say the least. It was shattered as pieces of it floated along the orbit of the planet. It creeped him out a bit. "Admiral Ensor we have arrived on point. Ready to breach atmosphere." He heard the pilot start in the cockpit. There was a pause. Nothing. "Admiral…" The pilot repeated only to receive static and garbled messages through the holo-comm. He pressed a button on the panel and opened the internal channel again.
"We've lost signal with the fleet. Let's finish up quickly and we'll be right back home for supper." He signaled to his co-pilot and both brought the ship into the atmosphere. "Everyone in your seats. It's gonna be a rough ride." The pilot chuckled as he pushed the yoke down shaking the entire ship until it stabilized.
The ARC trooper leading the platoon stood up from his seat and grabbed the handle in the ceiling of shuttle to lay down the orders. He wore the usual orange accents that all Clone Troopers in the 212th attack battalion wore, but with more intricate designs than of the usual trooper. On his right shoulder a pauldron stood in display. It had the likeness of a black metallic wing. He was CT-4890 Sergeant Major 'Vylon' "Alright you heard it; we are on our own. No reinforcements, no backup, no fancy rides. You gotta make do with what's given to you. Reports from the recon group tell us that this is an inhabited planet. We are not to make contact with the locals. Just grab Grievous and go. Is that clear troopers?" a chorus of 'Yes, sir' echoed in the ship as the ARC nodded his head. "Alright let's bring that slimy bastard home for the Republic!" All the clones gave a hurrah loading their blasters. "Pryce set the bird down and wait on the ship while we set up camp for the night. Keep the engines hot."
"Alright Serge, happy hunting." The pilot's voice cut off as the ship set down on the forest floor. Everyone onboard lurched forward in their seats as the bay door opened. The air seals broke as a gush of wind rushed into the ship. "Move, move, move, get your gear together we don't have all night." Vylon hollered as all the troopers filed out the shuttle into the cold night.
Vylon stopped at the ramp leading to the cool night holding his hand out on one of the troopers on the way out. "You look anxious Blaze got something to say?" His eyes scrutinized over Blaze. "No, sir. Just got a lot on my head." Blaze unknowingly turned his head to floating celestial being. Vylon followed his sight as he gazed on the bizarre feature of the planet. Nothing he's seen before.
"Well, the faster you work trooper the quicker we'll get back home to the Republic. Then you can rest all you want." He turned back to the trooper not paying mind to moon. Blaze nodded fumbling his hand over the BT X-42 on his side. It still made him worry a bit. "Fasten up your canister, don't want you blowing up now do we?" Sergeant Vylon said as he chuckled to himself. He nudged the fuel canister in place and tightened the straps to his chest. He was a Flametrooper after all, can't have him blow up in the middle of battle by a stray blaster shot.
Vylon nodded leading them both to the garrison investigating the forest. They were stationed a few hours before their arrival. They walked into camp as low hum of ARC-170s engines were heard overhead as searchlights beamed into the forest canopy. Clones walked around the camp keeping watch for anything that might wander by.
"Squad 1 do you hear? This is Squad 4 filling in. The camp is set and ready for containment. What is the situation on the crash site? Over." Blaze could hear the voice of a clone inside the tent he passed as only static answered back. Vylon walked past him directing himself into the tent. Blaze decided to stay behind and watch the night go on. "I've got a bad feeling about this." Blaze said to himself as he stared again to the broken rock in the sky.
[Halo 3 OST: Gravemind]
"What's the situation Corporal?" Vylon said as he let the drapes of the tent fall behind him.
"Nothing Serge." Corporal CT-7321 'Pierce' responded from inside the tent. "The radio has been giving problems all night. Can't seem to get a transmission through." The radio started up as a low ominous wave of static greeted them both in the tent. "It has been like this over and over. Here see for yourself Serge."
Vylon grabbed the mic from the trooper. He sat down on the chair in the tent and motioned the trooper to start the frequency at an open channel. "This is Sergeant Vylon reporting in on all open channels. Squad 1 status on Grievous' crash site. Over." Vylon waited for a response as the static continued. Pierce tried to argue how leaving it on an open channel might draw in unwanted attention from the locals. Vylon only raised a hand in response as he continued waiting. Soon the ominous buzz of static stopped and the familiar voice of clone's reported in. "See Corporal? It worked." Vylon chuckled leaving the clone in silence as they both sat down.
"Squad 1 what is the situation on the crash site?" Vylon repeated waiting for response as Corporal leaned in on his headset.
"There's no signs of life Serge. Only claw marks and gashes on the hull. Haven't seen anything like it. Too small for a Gundark, could be a wild Nexu wandering about." The clone speculated as he passed two fingers over the large gashes in the metal.
"I'll send a batch of troopers to your location. Together you will search the perimeter around the crash site. If we know Grievous a wild cat wouldn't kill him but would make our jobs a whole lot easier."
"Copy Serge. Squad 1- "A sharp ring came out of their headsets. They winced in response at the sudden abruption. Only a wet thump greeted them as muffled blaster fire was heard from the other side of the link. Heavy steps were heard from within the radio. They both didn't understand what was going until the screams of men was heard from the other side."
"What are these things- "
"Get back, get back! Agh-!"
"They're everywhere!"
The muffled screams of men stopped leaving them both in silence. Then the radio started up again leaving only the slight sound of heavy breaths and crunching in the background. Only one thing stood out. The long howl of a beast.
"Squad 1! Do you hear? Squad 1!?" Pierce beside him screamed out into the mic. Vylon got up from his chair and gave the order to the corporal to contact all troops in the area to let them know that hostiles were in the woods. Pierce nodded grabbing the microphone giving out the emergency orders.
Pierce cursed as he slammed the microphone into the desk. "None of them are picking up-" A loud explosion rung out outside cutting Pierce off. Panicked yells followed outside their tent as the familiar sound of blaster fire. "I guess they already do." Pierce said as they both put on their helmets. Pierce ran to the side of the tent to remove a tarp over a crate. Vylon questioned what he was doing only for Pierce to take out a Wookie Bowcaster and a Tusken Cycler out of the crate.
"Yeah, yeah- illegal weaponry. Bought the materials back while stationed at Courascant thought they might come in handy during an emergency." Pierce stayed in silence as he looked around him. Only the sound blaster fire and howls could be heard outside as he used that as an answer for the Serge's silent question. "Well would you look at that an emergency."
"I'll deal with you later. Pass me the Bowcaster."
"Hey, hey- I built them both myself! I keep the Bowcaster you take the Cycler."
Vylon sighed grabbing the weapon from Pierce's hand as he hooked his WESTAR-M5 on his hip and dashed outside with Pierce following close behind.
Everything outside was chaos to say the least. There were Black Beasts running everywhere attacking and mulling everything in sight. Their bone plated mask covering their faces with odd red designs engraved into them. Bones protruding from odd angles and their thick black hides resistant to blaster fire. Red eyes that sustained an unnatural hunger to them. They weren't like any animals he seen before. They were all black and wore white masks to cover their faces. Also that each one looked a different species, but all had the same colors: White mask, red markings, black body.
A loud screech took him out of his thoughts as he looked to the sky. Large Black Birds flew over him. The wind emitted from their wings almost knocked him off his feet. ARC-170s directed their fire at them in a panic. Large smoking gashes radiated from their body, but they kept going without a care for their own injuries. Their tough muscles and feathers absorbed most of the damage from plasma bolts. One of them crashed into the starfighter near it. The fighter lost its balance as it crashed into the forest's canopy.
A screech emitted from its throat. The sheer sound of it left his ears ringing. He could barely register what he saw. It latched onto another starfighter its claws sunk into the metal like wet paper. It threw the machine off balance as it crashed into the forest floor in a heap of metal. It stood above the ship as it intently pecked at glass protecting the pilot inside. With one hard pull on the glass it was torn off its hinges as the pilot inside screamed for dear life. It closed its beak on the pilot's arm ripping him off his seat and throwing him onto the cold, soft forest floor. He could only watch in horror as the pilot crawled away in desperation. The beast just strutted casually onto its prey. It was toying with him! It was enjoying it! He couldn't bear to watch as the bird like creature tortured his brother. It pinned him to the ground two of its four legs pressing on his shoulders. Its bone mask inched closer to the pilot as it sensed him over.
Without a sense or warning it ripped off one the pilot's legs in one quick movement of its beak. The coarse screams of the pilot rung as he pleas for help were left in the wind. No one came as the beast went on with its murderous glee. The beast just looked the pilot over with its four red eyes. Blaze could see it. The childish wonder in its eyes. It was like a little kid who found a new toy to play with. It wanted to hear everything and see everything the toy could do until he was tired of it. The cracking bones made him sick. He could hear the screams reverberate in his head. They didn't stop. They never stopped. What was supposed to be a simple mission turned into a horror show.
Blaze stayed still behind the tree he was using has cover. He could feel his heartbeat in his ears. His breathing was frantic as his thoughts were everywhere. He stuck his head from the side of the tree to see the beast eating what was left of the pilot. Red stains sprayed across the once unsullied floor. The fresh sent of iron masking his senses. He wanted leave. He needed to leave!
He could still hear the pained screams of his brothers in his mind. All of them he could hear them. He remembers what Vylon told them while on the shuttle. This planet was inhabited by actual people! How could they live with these THINGS here! There were too many of them and they stopped at nothing to get kill everything. The way they tortured their prey. It was like they didn't need to eat at all! They chose to. A planet where the animals were the hunters and they were the prey.
He ran from the tree leaving the beast behind him as he ran towards the familiar yells of clones and blaster fire. He needed to get out. He was too scared to face these things. He let his brother die and he only watched. He didn't move, he could've done anything. He wasn't trained to fight these THINGS. These weren't the usual droids he dealt with. These were wild beasts who tortured their prey for fun, not the lifeless army that never stopped in its path. This war just kept getting crazier and crazier he almost felt like laughing by the absurdity of everything!
[Star Wars: The Clones Theme]
Blaze came out of the underbrush to see a circle of clones fighting tooth and nail against the beasts. In them he saw Vylon with another clone to his side as they both shot at the wolf like beasts. The shots from their weapons left smoking holes inside of anything that crossed their sights. He saw as the clone beside Vylon came up with a Bowcater as a green shot from its barrel sent one of the beasts sprawling through a tree. Vylon pulled the lock on the Cycler Rifle he was holding the shot penetrating through the mask of a large round beast leaving a black smoking hole right between its eyes.
"Serge aren't you a sight for sore eyes." He couldn't help but yell as another beast fell in a trail of smoke behind him.
"Blaze weren't you at the camp? Why are you all the way over here?" Vylon said as the clone beside him shot again at a boar like beast.
"Well, I was with a platoon, but the beasts split us apart. We were waiting for you actually Serge." He couldn't help but smile under his helmet as all the fear from earlier dissipated slowly.
"These things just don't stop coming and the bird like ones keep destroying our ships." The clone beside Serge said as his shot tore a hole in the animal in front of him. "Hoowee! Now I understand why those Wookies love these things." He chuckled as he auto locked the string back in place for another shot.
"Uh, who are you?" Blaze asked as he drew the clone's attention.
"Oh, sorry." The clone took out his hand as Blaze shook it. "I'm Colonel Pierce, your Serge's second hand assigned on this mission. I arrived earlier before both of you landed, and here these two babies built them myself." He said as he showed the Crossbow and pointed at Cycler Rifle Vylon was holding. "Just needed to get the right pieces to make them pack a punch. Nothing the Republic would give you I tell you that."
Vylon sighed as he thought of many ways to knock some sense into this wayward Colonel. But that was later right now they needed to find a way to get his men out of this hell hole of a planet. "Blaze you still got your BT X-42 on you?" Vylon asked.
"Yes Serge, wouldn't be a Flametrooper without it." Blaze unhooked it from his tank as he flicked a switch on the handle. A low hiss escaped the muzzle as it was prepped and ready to burst.
"Alright, I need you to set the forest on fire." Vylon said in matter of fact as both clones and the rest of the men stared at him waiting for him to clarify. They all stayed in silence as another explosion rung out in the distance.
"That's it?" Pierce asked from the side. Not really understanding what will accomplish setting the whole damn forest on fire. Really, he could care less, but that really didn't sound like a plan.
"That's it." Vylon returned as everyone shrugged agreed with it. It was better than nothing. "Okay, Blaze will give us cover while I call in Pryce on his location. This will give us enough time to gather up and get on the ship and leave this hell hole once and for all."
[Halo 3 ODST: Rain]
They both nodded as they all got to work. Blaze pulled the trigger on the flamethrower and saw how the orange flames came to life. Setting everything around him ablaze. Whines and whimpers were heard as the beasts retreated behind the wall of flames. Cracks gave into the hard wood of the trees. Making them fall on the beasts crushing them under their weight.
"Ha ha, they're retreating!" Blaze heard as all the clones cheered him on. He felt a sense of dread grow inside of him. He was saving their lives. What was with him earlier he could've done something to save his brother? But he just stood there as he watched his brother get eaten alive. He didn't deserve their praise. He wasn't good. The torrent of flames delayed for a second as his thoughts plagued him.
"Heads up trooper can't have you falling on us." Pierce came from his side as he took him out of his thoughts. Blaze looked down not trying to avoid his gaze. The only comfort with him was the steady flames on the forest ground. Consuming, warm the only thing that made his life meaningful. It was his job since he was born. Pierce kept on staring at the growing flames as Blaze did his best to ignore his presence. He only listened to the growing inferno. He didn't deserve It, he left him to die. He could've burnt the beast, but he didn't. Because he valued his life over another like him. But when did his life matter when there were thousands like him? Another clone could easily replace him. The praise grew louder in his ears. Taunting him for his failure.
"I've seen that face before." Pierce said suddenly drawing his attention from the burning forest in front of him. "You think you've failed. That you don't deserve live. A waste of space. Why were you the one left behind?" Blaze could only feel worse with each word that came out of his mouth. "You are asking these questions, aren't you?" Blaze stayed silent turning his gaze to the searing blaze. Pierce took this as an affirmation. "But right now, you can do better. You might think you aren't worth it, but each day is another day for improvement. To make up for the mistakes you've done before. These clones here need you here and now and you know it. They are all like you and me. No really, they are, have you seen our faces? I tell you can't see a difference." Blaze couldn't help but snicker at his joke.
"Besides the point, everyone dies. This is war for crying out loud. You can't go out without expecting people not to die. So, get yourself together trooper because there will be more than the ones you've witnessed today." Pierce said letting out a huff of breath at the end. Blaze did understand but that didn't make it less painful.
"All we can do, us that survived, is remember and honor all those that we've lost. Don't take yourself too hard Blaze. Because you're still with us kicking. Give the troopers a kickass farewell for me." Pierce patted his shoulder as he went back to talk with Serge.
That really was a thinker. But he got the gist of it. He was their only way out of this mess and him beating himself up would only make things worse. Get your head in the game Blaze! You are their escape ticket. Besides this was his way of giving all these troopers a proper burial.
His response was to pull the trigger harder on the gun. Letting his knuckles go white from the pressure. To set this forsaken world ablaze! He laughed out in wicked glee as the beasts ran for their lives as their smoking fur and feathers were left in the flame's path.
"What did you tell Blaze?" Vylon shook his head as he saw his trooper burning everything that came across him in joyful glee. His manic laughter could be heard from across the meadow they currently resided in. Every trooper in the area shuffled away from him in worry.
"Just gave him a pep talk. The boy was kicking himself too hard." Pierce gave his answer as Vylon sighed. He really couldn't understand this trooper. "What's the status on our evac Serge?" Pierce continued as they both stood and watched the growing expanse of flames through the underbrush.
"He's on his way. The lucky bastard didn't even know we were in trouble the entire time." Vylon said gruffly as Pierce whistled in response.
"Ooh Serge what will the boys back at Kamino think about that." Pierce chuckled only having Vylon shake his head in response. If he shook his more times today it be bound to come off. They both were cut off as their internal radio came up.
"This is Pryce ready for pickup. I see ya Serge. Well, being you it's not that much anyways."
"I like him already." Pierce said from the side as the Nu-class shuttle drifted above searing heat. Trees withered under the flames as the roaring engines of the shuttle lay itself across meadow. "Alright everyone on board. We don't have enough time before the flying bastards spot us." Pryce said through the internal comms.
All the clones seized their fire as they all retreated to the confines of the shuttle. A familiar feeling, they all so desperately needed after the hell that was barely one night. "Blaze its over. We're going home." Vylon said through his comm as said soldier stopped his rampage on the forest. He walked across the meadow and sat upon the shuttle's ramp door. He looked out one last time content on the damage he's done.
"The mission is a bust. We couldn't capture Grievous. We'll return back to the Republic and do a full report." Vylon continued as the ship raised up above the flaming trees. They failed, but they had Grievous' location. Next time they'll bring a full fleet and flush him out. Then finally the Clone Wars can finally come to an end.
[Lusus Naturae RWBY]
"Serge we've got something on our six." Pryce's voice came through the comms as Vylon set his gaze down the ramp into the dark night. It was too dark to see a thing. And the sound of the ship's engines and Blaze's low hiss of his weapon didn't let him hear anything. Clouds everywhere covering up all types of visibility. Then there appeared the image of a soft beat of large black feathered wings within the clouds. It was trying to surprise them.
"Pryce go higher! It's hiding in the clouds." Vylon yelled to the pilot as he pulled the yoke raising the shuttle above the canopy of clouds. "Where are you?" Vylon muttered as he held tightly to Cycler in his hand. The only way he could take a shot was through the open door of the shuttle.
"Pryce what does the motion sensor say?" Vylon said as he kept his sights to the night sky. Waiting for the beast to show itself. Blaze and Pierce held their weapons directly pointed at the ramp. The rest of clones held tightly to their seats.
"Its gone Serge. Wait, I'm picking something up…" Pryce said as he tapped the screen on his side. Before a solid red light sat upon the center of the screen. "It's right below us! Everyone hold tight!" Pryce pulled the yoke as his co-pilot steadied the shuttle. The entire ship went into a dive as one of the clones almost fell off the shuttle. Pierce grabbing him by the hand and pulling him back to safety.
"What the hell is that thing?" Pierce yelled as the giant black monster soared high into the sky. Its large black wings spread across the expanse as they flapped methodically in the air. Bones stretched across and covered most of its back and body spreading to the ends of its wings. Green crystals protruded out of its shoulders giving an eerie glow around it. It was roughly two times the size of the shuttle. Eight green eyes stared into the door two on each of its heads. Its mouths oozed a green substance as it fell in the wind. A long-serrated tail trailed behind its long body. It was nothing they've seen before. It screeched a deafening roar as all aboard the shuttle covered their ears in response.
"We need to leave now!" Vylon screamed as the beast only got closer to the ship. One of its six arms scratched the wing of the shuttle. "Can't with that thing on our tail!" Pryce yelled back as he turned the ship around to dodge the falling acid like substance spewing from its mouths.
Blue plasma fire erupted from the door as all the clones fired upon the beast. The clones tried their best on shooting it out of the sky. All blasts from the bolts were leaving slight scorch marks on its body. Only infuriating the beast more than it already was. Pierce shot it directly with the Bowcaster as it only slightly halted it in its flight. The bone plating on its body was too thick for plasma fire and their slugthrowers only got through the first layer of bone.
It roared again as it grabbed unto sides of the shuttle. Holding tightly as the engines groaned in effort. One of its heads entered the opening in the ship as wrapped its tongue around one of the trooper's legs. It dragged him slowly into its burning maw the green acid dripping from its mouth corroding the metal beneath. He screamed in agony as he could feel the acid seep into his armor melting the flesh and bone beneath.
The clones held on to his arms as he kicked the beast's face with his other. All the other clones shot it franticly until Vylon shot it directly in the eye. Its head reeled back dragging the clone with it. Letting go of the ship it cried out in pain. It roared again as it pursued the shuttle in animalistic fury. Letting the clone in its mouth fall to the ground below.
"Try aiming it in the eyes! It's the only vulnerable area it got!" Vylon screamed out as all the clones on the ship concentrated their fire on its heads. The blaster shots burned into its face; black mist radiated from its body. All these creatures did the same when they were hurt. They were doing something to it! "Don't let up brothers! We won't let one of these suckers take us alive!" Pierce yelled from the side as it rallied them all together. The beast's flight slowed down as its wounds started taking a toll on its body.
"Blaze your canister!" Vylon yelled to the flametrooper in the back who has done his best with the WESTAR-M5 provided by Vylon. "Let's blast this sucker to the next life!" Pierce joined in as his Bowcaster exploded one of the beast's head clean off. Blaze nodded unhooking his fuel canister on his back. "Ready Serge!" Blaze yelled holding tightly to the rail on the roof as his other held to the highly explosive canister.
"Pryce prepare to dive! Everyone hang on tight!" The ship fell the beast following close behind not knowing what these humans were about to do. It neared the ship letting out a feral roar. "Blaze now!" Blaze let go of the canister as it soars off the ship. Hitting its mark directly on one of beast's heads biting into it as the reactive liquid dowsed the monster's body. "Pierce take the shot!" Vylon screamed at Pierce. Him not hesitating in his movements takes aim and fires. It lands true on the canister in the beast's maw erupting in a glorious red and hue. The explosion shook the entire ship leaving the beast to burn alive as its body disintegrated to black smoke. The last embers drifted in the wind leaving no trace of being behind.
All the clones erupted in cheers as the ship steadied itself. They all took a breath of relief as the nightmare was finally over. The door closed sealing itself from the planet's atmosphere as they all prepared to leave the forsaken planet. "Glad I won't be here ever again. Once I return to the fleet, I will take a nice rest on my bed. Won't complain about it ever again." Pierce said reclining himself further in the bench. Blaze followed as well, both exhausted of this whole ordeal. Vylon chuckled directing himself to front of the ship leaving them both to rest in the bay.
"You flew well out there Pryce. Wouldn't have made it out without you." Vylon said through the mic in his helmet. "Nah, it was all you Serge. If you weren't here that thing would've torn us both to pieces." Price said as his co-pilot nodded in agreement.
"Well one thing is for sure is that we'll be taking nice rest back home. Goodness knows we need it." Vylon said as all clones in the cabin groaned in agreement. "Well Serge, don't you have a lively bunch." Pryce chuckled as Vylon joined in as well. "Wouldn't have it any other way. Now Pryce take us home."
"Roger that commander. Prepping to leave atmosphere." Pryce said punching buttons on the console in front of him as his co-pilot followed afterwards. Vylon let out a sigh. Another eventful day in the Grand War hard day over. A failure, but at least he could save the men he could on this. They would all grow to be better soldiers.
Vylon looked around the cabin seeing as both Pierce and Blaze fast asleep on the bench. The other clones busying themselves by cleaning their blasters others talking the night away. His thoughts ended abruptly as a splitting headache manifested itself into his skull. It was unbearable he couldn't think clearly as he felt the sudden urge to blast something. Something in the back of his head was ordering him to do something he didn't know. Then it suddenly stops as the entire room felt silent. No one was talking. It was all silent.
"We're losing power to the main engines." Pryce called out. "Diverting to emergency power."
"Emergency power is offline. Everyone prepare for impact!" the co-pilot said as Vylon's vision went black.
Yang stood in front of her house. She didn't know where Ruby was, and Dad left to search the city for her. All the Grimm were flocking towards the city of Patch. Everything was a mess. The forest was in flames and Atlas ships were falling out of the sky and losing against Grimm. What the hell was going on?
Then Ruby just runs off in the middle of the night without telling anybody where she went. Zwei wasn't helping either. He wasn't worried about her at all just sleeping on his bed without a care in the world. She was tired, worried and angry at everything happening. She really needed to punch some Grimm to relieve herself. But Dad said to watch over the house incase Ruby comes back. Everything was fricking dandy.
Could it get any worse? She thought to herself as droplets fell out of the sky. It was already a sucky day and she just had to jinx it. She huffed as she crossed her arms across her chest. Ember Celica on each arm ready to fire at a moment's notice.
The forest fire was doused under the heavy rain. Smoke clouds floated upwards as the orange glow of the forest dwindled. At least that was one problem solved, now all they had to do was get rid of all the Grimm invading the Port City of Patch. That's where their school was, but she could care less about it. Right now, she only needed to know where Ruby was and once, she got her hands on her…
Yang stopped her thoughts as she heard a ruffle in a bush nearby. She cocked Ember Celica on her wrists and prepared to shoot whatever decided to pop out here. Nobody would mind if she punched some Grimm to dust or she found another to blast. Finally, something to shape things up. It was getting boring! The shotgun shell cocked in place ready to explode the Grimm who decided to wander by her house. The shuffling didn't stop as Yang carefully stalked towards the bush. Then suddenly something popped from it and she was ready to blast it into the ground until she realized who it was.
"Ruby?" Yang said, Ember Celica going back into place.
"Don't shoot!" Ruby yelled as she put both of her arms in front of her face as someway of defense.
"Of course, I won't Ruby. But you've got some explaining to do. Why did you go off in the middle of the night by yourself!" Yang practically screamed at her only Ruby covered her ears to try and stop herself from going deaf.
"I'll explain all I can later! Now please can you help me get him inside?" Ruby said frantically as she pulled something from the bush. Yang wasn't having any of that.
"Ruby, oh no, I'm not listening to your excuses. You know how much you had us worried!? Dad was looking for you in the city. I'll call him right now and tell everything is alright. After this we're going to talk." Yang took out her Scroll from her pocket only to see there was no reception. She muttered a curse under breath as she stuffed her Scroll back into her pocket.
"Yang really, not right now, I've been dragging him all the way from the forest. And let's not get started on avoiding the soldiers." Ruby said as she kept pulling on a metal hand sticking out of the bush.
"Ruby what are you…?" Yang didn't say more as she saw the metal behemoth Ruby was dragging. Its legs were bent in odd places, dents could clearly be seen on its chest. One of its arms was cut clean off. It was a strange sight to see. But what caught her attention the most was the rough uneven breaths coming from it.
"Ruby, what is that?"
"Just help me get him inside. Please, Yang."
An old man looked intently on the display in front of him as his eyes analyzed the data received from this experiment trial. His creation had been reduced to ash. But that is not to say the data received from the conflict wasn't valuable in its ways. No, no, the knowledge assimilated was useful for his line of work. He had to find a new test subject for sure, yes. It was too unruly, didn't think. Perfect for cannon fodder, but not for the future of humanity. He needed intelligence, intuition, imagination. What a lesson this was! He already had the strength and durability in his experiments. Only to perfect this and then his task would be fulfilled.
He crossed off the beast's name on his pad. It was a slow progress of trial and error, but he promised it will bear fruit. He closed the display as he directed himself to the door. He had many experiments and projects to attend to after all. He looked over the progress reports on his minor test subjects. They followed orders but could never get that will of their own. He passed one of his metallic fingers under the chin of a small Nevermore. Its toxic green eyes stared back at him as it cooed in content. The logs needed an update:
Subject #95 – "Arma Gigas"; Status: Detained
Subject #100 – "Nuckelavee"; Status: Active
Subject #184 – "Kymera"; Status: Deceased
Subject #186 – "Deathstalker"; Status: In Process
All fixed. He has been trying his best on succeeding his plans. But all saw him insane a madman. Who would control the Grimm? All thought he perished at Mountain Glenn. The end of the maniacal Doctor Merlot. Head of Merlot Industries and the vanguard of the future and evolution of humanity and faunus alike. He will succeed as humanity depended on it. He will achieve peace like no one thought he would. He knew too well that humanity feared change. Too content on living their meager lives in ignorance and deceit. He knew what darkness lied below the surface and the tragedy that soon will unfold. He needed to work quicker for time was almost up.
Ozpin looked out his window into the quiet stormy night. The rain always felt good with a cup of hot chocolate. The perpetual sound of thunder and rain soothed him as it patted gently against the glass windows of his abode. He took a sip of his cup as he let the bittersweet taste drift him away from all the worries of the world. Because he knew better than all that these moments don't last forever.
An abrupt knock came to his door as he was knocked away from his thoughts. He grabbed his cane and walked towards the door of his office. There stood one slightly dowsed Qrow Branwen. His trusted informant and wilderness expert. What could've brought him here at this time of night?
"What brings you here at this hour, Qrow?" Ozpin asked calmly as he gently stirred his hot chocolate in his mug.
"You wouldn't believe what I just saw on Patch, Oz."
This piqued his interest. What could of possibly happen in the peaceful quiet Island of Patch?
[A/N] So finally another chapter after a week and few days. I was writing this chapter all this time, but never posted it because I kept rewriting it. Never liked how it was first. This chapter took me at least six rewrites until I decided to post it. So, tell me if you liked it and stay tuned if you want more. Don't forget to post a review.
Now this chapter is about six-thousand words long! Woo it's double the previous two chapters length. And originally, I was going to have the Clones fight a Geist but thought it was too messed up. It possessed anything inanimate. Take a guess what I made it possess. It wasn't pretty. So, Ruby found Grievous. I wonder how that is going to turn out? Well, it'll all be explained in the next chapter.
I have a few ideas were this will lead and how I will insert characters. Because there are too many characters now that I think about it. Its gonna be a challenge, but I'll make it work. As for the Star Wars part will sit down for a while until I develop things a bit on Remnant. But I will come back to it in due time for there a lot of stuff I have to cover.
Also, the Grimm I made them a bit bloodier out of thought that came to mind. They are supposed to feed off humanity's negative emotions, right? What other way than breaking them piece by piece? I thought of other way's but were too wrong, so I went with instinctual torturous tendencies (ITT).
Also, I wrote the titles for songs in bold letters to help emerge into the situation at hand. Halo always loved it and the clones do have a kickass theme, then finally Doctor Merlot's ideology. He really interests me as character and one that I believe should appear in the future of Ruby. Come on he's literally the only answer they have on using the Grimm against Salem, but eh. Don't if he's dead or not in canon. Just island went boom.
Well, anyways that's enough of that rant. Thanks for reading and see ya in the next time!
