The Girl Next Door

Chapter 4

"Where's your head at?" Rebekah asked as their bodies gleamed with sweat cuddling close together like they hadn't had each other for weeks.

"I guess I'm just worried."

"About?"

"Just life in general. Everything is just changing all around us. It's insane to think about how much has changed."

"I get the feeling, luckily we're both in this together and we'll get through it. I know we will."

"I'll agree with that." Damon smiled kissing her as she fell asleep in his arms leaving him to his own thoughts.

Sighing Damon put his boxers back on going downstairs as he waited several second to make sure that Rebekah was asleep. He didn't want her to know what he was doing.

Grabbing the key from the drawer that he had hid from Rebekah and went downstairs to the basement where he had pulled out his stash of liquor. He had told Rebekah that he would try to stop drinking, but tonight seemed to be an exception as he popped the lid to the beer he had been hiding and put it to his lips setting it down on the dryer they had set down there and pulled on a pair of pants that had been in them. If he was going drink this, he would have to do it outside where he could get rid of it easily of Rebekah woke up.

Sneaking out to the front, Damon sat down on the porch swing popping the top off his beer as he put it to his lips. It was a nice night and Damon could hear the crickets chirping as a voice startled him making him spill some beer on his pants. Shit.

"Why are you out here so late?" Elena asked the fabric of her dress clinging every inch of her body.

"What the fuck are you doing out so late?"

"It's barely nine. And I was on my way out to go meet a few friends when I saw you. You looked sad and I thought I'd come over here to see what was wrong."

"What makes you think something is wrong?"

"You're drinking a beer out here alone at night while your pregnant wife is sleeping. Call it a hutch."

"So? Maybe I like peace while enjoying my beer, which I can't have if you're overhear flapping your gums at me. Don't you have somewhere to be anyway?"

"Yeah, I do. Maybe you should stop moping around your front porch and come drinking with me. Maybe have some real fun for a change."

"Why would I want to go anywhere with you?"

"Because you're bored and in need of some real fun."

"What makes you think I'm not having any real fun?"

"Have you seen yourself lately? You're kind of low key pathetic."

"Just because I'm doing the right thing by Rebekah doesn't mean I'm pathetic."

"To each their own I guess, but you should at least try to have fun occasionally."

"I have plenty of fun right here." He answered holding up his beer and taking a sip.

"Oh, come on. One drink. What do you have to lose?"

"Everything."

"Did anyone ever tell you that you have quite the morbid outlook on life?" she asked sitting down next to him and grabbing a beer.

"What do you think you're doing?"

"Well since you don't want to do out drinking with me and my friends, I thought it would be a good idea to drink with you instead. Maybe get to know each other a little better."

"What about your friends?"

"They can wait. God knows I've waited on them plenty of times. Plus, it's just a beer, right?"

"Right." He said with a forced smile.

"How is your wife?"

"Why do you want to know?"

"Just making conversation."

"She's fine."

"And the baby?"

"How sweet." She answered moving her hand to his thigh which he jerked away from.

"Why are you trying to ruin this for me?"

"Ruin what exactly?" she asked playing coy.

"I have a good thing going with Rebekah. I have a home and a baby on the way. I'm not looking to ruin that."

"Then don't. I only offered, because I thought you were miserable, but if you're not down then don't be so full of yourself." She spat standing up.

"Where are you going?" he asked.

"I have friends to go out with. I'll see you later." She answered leaving him to wallow in his own self-pity by himself.
