Chapter 3 – Post Race Craziness
With that, Scott and Ty had both horses in the clinic and Georgie was heading to the front of the building to call Amy. She didn't want to have to deal with her mother any sooner then she had to. As she reached the waiting room, she saw Tim, Amy and Jack. Prince's owner was also there. Georgie wanted to wait until there was news, but Amy came over to give her a hug.
"Let's go," Amy said quietly to Georgie, looking at Jack.
"I want to stay," came Georgie's reply.
"Scott or Ty will call with news," Jack said coming to Georgie's side. "There is nothing that you can do here, but worry."
Reluctantly, Georgie let Jack and Amy lead her from Scott's clinic. The drive home was mostly silent. It wasn't until Heartland came into view, Georgie spoke.
"Am I in trouble," she asked quietly.
"Not from either of us," came Jack's reply quickly.
"Lou is going to be mad," Georgie said with an air of worry.
"I will deal with your mother," Jack said firmly.
As they pulled into the yard, Lou was on the porch and Georgie could see the anger radiate from her. Georgie wasn't even out of the truck before Lou lost it.
"What were you thinking," Lou yelled, "You could have been hurt."
"I wasn't, so chill," Georgie said sharply as she pushed past Lou.
Before Lou could go after her, Jack and Amy were there to stop her. Lou went to protest and Jack held his hand up to silence her.
"She acted on instinct, Lou" Jack said with that fatherly tone in his voice.
Lou didn't respond, but that didn't mean that she wasn't still angry. Amy changed clothes and excused herself, she wanted to head to the track to make sure that Sapphire had been taken care of. Amy also wanted to talk to Lisa. Lisa had stayed behind at the track after the race for the obligatory celebration. Jack had suggested that Amy stay, but she was sure that Georgie would need her more and that Lisa would understand.
"Lisa, you there," Amy said knocking on the trailer door.
"Come in," Lisa answered
"Everything okay," Amy asked tentatively.
"Oh yes, honey" Lisa said getting up to hug Amy.
"I just thought you might be mad that I took off like that," Amy responded.
"I understood, how are things by the way," Lisa said cautiously.
"Lou, is fuming. Georgie went straight to her room and well Grandpa, he didn't want to even start." Amy said looking at Lisa for reassurance.
"How about we get out of here," Lisa asked.
"I just need my clothes and to return your jockey stuff," Amy replied.
"Least of my worries," Lisa reassured her. "Text your sister and let her know that we will pick up supper."
Taking her phone from her back pocket, Amy texted Lou as Lisa put Amy's things in her backpack. Together the walked out of the trailer and towards the vehicles. Just before reaching either, someone came up and stopped Lisa to talk. Lisa quickly motioned Amy over.
"What," Amy asked. "I thought that we going home."
"You should hear this," Lisa said with an air of excitement.
When Amy reached Lisa's side, before them stood another jockey. Amy recognized him around the track. He mainly worked as an exercise rider since he was getting up there in age for a regular jockey. She didn't know his name, but he had seemed nice enough the few times she had seen him.
"Amy, do you know Robert here," Lisa asked.
"I have seen him, but never really been introduced," Amy quickly replied.
"Amy Fleming please meet Robert Larson," Lisa said making the introductions.
"Amy Fleming, Miracle Girl," Robert asked.
"Well, I haven't been called that in long time," Amy said shyly.
"Well then, you better see this," Robert said handing Amy and Lisa his iPad.
Lisa and Amy just stood there wondering what was going on. Robert leaned over and hit play. What followed was a video of Georgie calming the horses and later joined by Amy. Neither realized that it had been recorded.
"That's not all," Robert said. Again he reached out took the iPad, clicked a couple things and then handed it back to Lisa and Amy.
"A New Miracle Joins the ranks with the original," Lisa and Amy read out loud together.
It had only been a few hours since the race and the video went up and it had already been viewed over two thousand times. The biggest question everyone was wondering was, who this new "Miracle Girl" was.
"I assume you know who this is," Robert asked tentatively.
"That is my great granddaughter, Georgie Fleming-Morris," Lisa said slowly. "She is Amy's sister, Lou's daughter."
"Can you repeat that," Robert asked, quickly reaching for the iPad so he could type something.
Robert typed in the message – 'Mystery solved, the young girl with Amy Fleming is her niece, Georgie Fleming-Morris. Guess it runs in the family.'
"Can you send me the link," Amy asked handing Robert her business card.
"No problem," Robert replied.
"We need to get home, Georgie is going to flip," Amy said, now excitement in her voice.
"You go home, I will get supper at Maggie's," Lisa said to Amy.
"Thank you," Lisa said turning to Robert.
"Great race today Amy," Robert said before turning to leave the two women standing there.
Amy couldn't wait to get home now. She had to take a couple deep breaths before pulling out of the parking lot. By the time that Lisa called the order into Maggie's and then drove across town, she had little time to process what had happened. Lisa walked into Maggie's not thinking anything of it, she just wanted to get her order and go. The minute Soraya spotted Lisa, she came around the counter and gave her a big hug.
"Congratulations," Soraya gushed.
"What is going on," Lisa asked.
"Well first for having the winning horse today, but more importantly for your amazing family," Soraya said.
Lisa was still in disbelief about what was going on. As she waited the few minutes until her order was ready, not less then fifteen people had come up and told her what an amazing great granddaughter she had. It was then that Lisa realized that word was out about the video, and who Georgie was.
Meanwhile, back at Heartland, Jack was trying to talk some reason into Lou when Amy came running through the door. Expecting Lisa right behind her, Jack looked confused.
"She went to get supper at Maggie's," Amy said, trying to catch her breath.
"Slow down, what is going on," Jack asked looking right into Amy's eyes.
"Get Georgie, I have something to show you," Amy said the excitement still in her voice.
"Have her bring her computer down," Amy yelled after Jack as he went upstairs to get Georgie.
"What is going on," Lou demanded in that tone of hers.
"Just wait," Amy said trying to calm herself down.
