Chapter 2
"Are you sure we'll be able to afford everything?" Beck asked, as he and Jade day in the trailer together. They were going through everything they'd need for the baby.
"Beck, my trust fund is almost 5 million dollars. My parents are giving me access to half of it. We'll have 2.5 million dollars to spend on an apartment, all of the supplies for the baby, bills, food, school, and everything else. Once I turn 18, my parents will give me access to the other 2.5 million. I definitely think we'll have plenty of money." Jade answered, as if the question Beck asked was stupid.
"How do you have 5 million dollars? How rich were your grandparents?"
"They were billionaires. They owned an energy company called Carrington Atlantic in Atlanta. The company was supposed to be inherited by my father, but he turned it down. He is on the board, and while he does get paid big bucks, he doesn't get paid as much as my uncle. My uncle is the CEO and majority shareholder for the company. The company will either go to his kids when he retires, or me."
"Wait, so you're telling me that you could inherit a multi billion dollar company?"
"If I really wanted to, yeah. I'm the oldest grandchild. My cousins are 15, 10, and 5. If he retires, technically the company will go to me."
"Are you gonna take it?"
"Beck, I want to be an actress and a singer, not the CEO of an energy company. I guess I could become a board member. I mean I know enough about the company to sit on the board."
"Why have you never told me about this?"
"It's not that big of a deal."
"A 5 million dollar trust fund and billionaires grandparents is a big deal, Jade."
"Why are you getting mad about this, Beck? I've survived this long without my grandparents' money. The only reason I'm using the trust fund is because we have no other choice."
"But why wouldn't you tell me you could inherit billions of dollars? I mean isn't that kind of important for our future. Don't you think I should know if you're gonna move half way across the country with our child?"
"What? Who said anything about moving?"
"You said the company is in Atlanta. If you took over the company, wouldn't that mean you'd have to move to Atlanta?"
"Maybe, but not anytime soon."
"But how can you be sure? What if your uncle retires in like 2 years? You'll be 19 and eligible to take over the company, right? Does that mean you'll move to Atlanta?"
"Beck, I don't even know if I want the company. I'm not planning on moving anytime soon, or maybe even ever."
Beck let out an exasperated sigh before flopping down on his bed. He put his head in his hands and mumbled an "I'm sorry."
Jade got up from her seat on the couch and sat next to Beck. She tried to comfort him by running her hand up and down his back.
"What's wrong?"
Beck sighed before picking his head up out of his hand and running a shaky hand through his hair.
"Today, I'm just feeling really overwhelmed. Seeing the baby suddenly made it seem real. I mean I knew we were having a baby, but seeing it on the ultrasound just made me realize just how real this whole thing is. We're gonna be parents, Jade. In like 6 months, we're gonna have this tiny human that will rely on us for everything. It's a lot to take in."
"And you think it's not for me? I'm terrified of becoming a mom. I'm scared of what people will say when I start showing more. I'm scared of something going wrong while I'm pregnant. I'm scared of giving birth. I'm scared of people judging us because we're so young. I'm scared of not being able to juggle school and parenthood properly. I'm scared of not being able to provide for our child, even with the trust fund. I'm terrified, Beck."
"I know you are, which is why I didn't want to say anything in the first place. I'm supposed to be the one helping you. I'm supposed to shut up and own up to my actions. I'm supposed to be the strong one through of all this. I'm trying to be, but it's hard."
"Are you having second thoughts?" Jade asked, no louder than a whisper.
"No! Definitely not! I love you and I love our baby. I want to be with you and I want to help you raise our child. Today's just been hard. You can understand that, right?"
"Yeah, I understand. And I love you too." Jade replied, kissing Beck's cheek.
Jade was about to go sit back down on the couch when she felt something weird. It was like butterflies flying around in her lower abdomen. Then the butterflies turned into little pokes. She quickly brought her hand up to her stomach, alarming Beck slightly.
"What's wrong?" Beck asked.
"Um, I don't know. I think I just felt the baby move and kick me."
"Really?"
"Yeah, I think so."
Beck placed his hand on her stomach, in an attempt to feel the baby too.
"Beck, I don't think you can feel it. I mean I can barely feel it. It's still really early too. I'm only 14 weeks."
"I know, but still. Our baby just moved. That's crazy and amazing." Beck said, his eyes full of love and adoration.
The young couple stayed like that for awhile, before deciding to move to a laying position. Beck's hand was still on Jade's tiny bump, as if he was holding their baby. They ended up falling asleep in that position.
A/N: I've recently become kinda obsessed with Liz Gillies. This obsession led me to her show on the CW called "Dynasty." I fell in love with the show and binge watched all 3 seasons in less than a week. It's because this that I decided to sprinkle some Dynasty into this story. Jade and Fallon are two different characters, but who says Fallon and Jade can't be cousins? Maybe I'll bring in Fallon later on, maybe I won't. We'll see.
