The opening played the theme music with various scenes inside a casino.
From the Wampa Cantina in the luxurious Jawa Arms Resort on Tatooine, it's the most exciting game in town: Galactic Gambit! And here's your host, Nod Demaltrain.
Nod ran up the main aisle and onto the stage.
"Thanks, and welcome once again to Galactic Gambit and our tournament," Nod told everyone. "Today, we have another great group of four players competing for a spot in our tournament semifinals. Let's go ahead and meet the first two players."
We have Orson Krennic and Yoda.
Krennic interrupted, saying, "You can call me Krennic."
"Very well, then," Nod replied. "Welcome to Galactic Gambit and good luck. The same to you, Yoda."
"Thank you. To have fun, I hope," Yoda said.
"Indeed. You already know how to play. Whole Yoda cuts the main deck and Krennic cuts the side deck, I'll remind you both that you each have one side card for this entire match. Also, our Any 20 Jackpot was won last time, so we'll be resetting it back to 500 credits. Yoda is the high seed for this match, so he gets to decide what to do with a nine."
"Keep it, I will," Yoda stated.
"A nine is a good card, so I'd expect you to keep it. You can play your side card if you want. Take the next card, or pass it to Krennic."
"The next card, I want."
"Yoda would like another big card to go with his nine. We have for him a two. You have 11. You could stay if you like, but the other options apply."
"One more card, I'd like."
"Anything but a ten ill help you. The next card is a ten—the one card that busts you, unless you want a side card."
"Help me, it will probably not. I'll pass."
"In that case, Krennic wins the game and 100 credits without playing a single card."
The audience briefly applauded.
"Yoda, you had some tough luck. Staying with 11 is very risky. No matter. You keep control in the next game that you must win now. We'll show you the top card; it's a five."
"Take it, and the next one too."
"Yoda is on a mission to get better cards. Let's see what he gets here: a six for 11 yet again."
"My side card, I'll play."
"We'll draw the top card form our randomly-shuffled deck of 23 side cards and show you a three for a score of 14."
"Stay, I will."
"Yoda stays with 14. Krennic, that's what you have to beat. Let's show you your first card. It's a three. You can play a side card or take the next one."
"I have to take another card then," Krennic replied.
"We turn over the next card to reveal a one. You have four. You'll need at least two card to win since 10 only ties, and we don't allow ties here on Galactic Gambit. What will you do?"
"Give me the next card."
"It's a two for six. You're getting all the lower card so far. But a ten will give you the win and the match. So will a nine."
"Let's hope for one of those."
"Krennic apparently wants the next main card, so let's give it to him—a six for a total of 12."
"I'll play my side card."
"Krennic is hoping for a positive number higher than two or a special card that won't put him over. It's a plus/minus five card. That gives you 17, the game, the match, and a total of 200 credits!"
The audience cheered as Yoda bowed respectfully to Krennic.
"Yoda, the cards just weren't helpful for you today. We'll give you some parting gifrs to thank you for being here on Galactic Gambit."
"You, I thank," Yoda replied. "interesting experience, this was."
"We'll take a break and have our second semifinal match when we return to Galactic Gambit."
⁂
And now, back to Galactic Gambit.
"Thanks," Nod said. "Let's prepare for our second semifinal match today."
Certainly. We have Luke Skywalker and Embo.
"Luke, welcome to Galactic Gambit."
"Thanks, Nod," Luke replied. "This has certainly been an interesting experience watching all the games so far. I didn't even know this game existed."
"Well, we do say it's pazaak with a twist for a reason. Good luck. Embo, welcome to the show and our tournament."
«Thanks. Anything that gives easy money without the hassle of bounty hunting has to be a good thing,» Embo stated.
"I hope you feel that way after the match. While you cut our randomly-shuffled side deck, Luke will cut the main deck. Let me remind you now that our Any 20 Jackpot for this match is now up to 1000 credits. With that out of the way, we'll reveal the top card to be an eight. Luke, as top seed this match, you control that card."
"I'll keep it and the next one!" Luke exclaimed.
"Luke is hoping for another high card. Let's see what he gets. It's a seven for a score of 15. You could stay, play your side card that's allowed this match, take the next card, or pass the next card."
"I think I'm ready to stay."
"Alright. Luke stays at 15. Embo, you need to get 16 or better to win game number one. Your first card is going to be a seven. You need nine or ten to win, unless you'd like a side card now."
«That's alright,» Embo told Nod. «Give me the next card.»
"Embo would love a nine or ten her for the quick win. He has a six for 13. That's not enough. You need three through seven to win."
«I'll take the next card.»
"A seven could give you both the win and our 1000-credit Any 20 Jackpot. We have a six. That's not 20, but 19 is good enough for the win!"
The audience briefly cheered.
"Luke, you couldn't have done much else, I think. Embo has game one and 100 credits. Luke, you get to start game two—which you need to win to stay alive. Do you want to take or pass the first card which is a nine?"
"Oh, I'll keep that and take the next one again," Luke said.
"Luke is hoping for big cards, and probably something better this time. To add your nine, we have another nine for 18."
"I'm staying for sure!"
"Luke is hoping 18 is more difficult to beat. Embo did get 19 last time, so we'll see what happens here. Embo, your first card is a four. Low cards aren't fun, but it's a start."
«I have to start somewhere. Give me the next one,» Embo replied.
"Let's hope this card is bigger. Turning it over reveals a one. You have five, well shy of what you need to win."
«I'll take this card as well.»
"Embo wants a higher card, I suspect. Instead, he gets a three for a score of eight. Ten won't be enough for a win, so you'll have to play some sort of card here."
«I'll take the next one, Nod.»
"Embo, we're going to add another one to your score for a total of nine. You have half oa Luke's score now, and a ten would give you both the game and the match."
«Let's go for that ten!»
"Embo, we have a nine... that ties you with Luke at 18. We can't have ties in our version. You can take a main card and hope you don't go over, or play your side card in hopes that it helps you break the tie without busting."
"I'll go ahead and take my side card."
"You only get one in this match. We'll take that top card off the side deck and show you a minus one card. That might not have helped too much as you still have 17. You need a two or a three here."
«We may as well get this over with.»
"Embo needs a two or a three—the latter giving him the 1000-credit jackpot. We have a two for a score of 19. Embo, you win the game, the match, and another 100 credits!"
As the audience applauded, Luke and Embo shook hands.
"Embo, do you regret playing that side card since it was a minus one? Had you not played it, you would have had 20."
«I got my win, so I regret nothing,» Embo insisted.
"You'll stay here to play in our final match against Krennic. Luke, you played the game strategically, but it just didn't work out. We'll have parting gifts to thank you for being part of our tournament here on Galactic Gambit."
"Thanks, Nod," Luke replied. "It was fun, but disappointing since I didn't get to win at least once. Oh well. Not even a Jedi has all the luck, I suppose."
As the audience chuckled, Nod said, "That's the spirit. We'll be right back with today's group championship match on Galactic Gambit."
⁂
Today's players not advancing will receive gift certificates to the Mos Eisley Cantina. With live entertainment and drinks that are out of this galaxy, you will find endless enjoyment. With a reasonably-priced menu, you won't have to worry about losing an arm or a leg. And now, it's time for today's final match on Galactic Gambit.
"Thanks, and welcome to our group's final match with Embo and Krennic," Nod told everyone. "While they each cut one of the decks we'll use this match, I'll remind you all that our finalists get to play two side cards this match, and our Any 20 Jackpot increases by 500 credits to 1500. With the decks cut, the first card is shown and it's a seven. Krennic, you get to choose what happens to it."
"I'll definitely take it," he replied.
"You now decide what happens next."
"I want another high card, so I'll take the next one."
"Let's find out what you've taken. It's a one to give you eight."
"Hmm, Let me try again with the next card."
"Krennic is on a mission to find another high card. And look at that. We have a nine, giving you a score of 17."
"I'll stay!"
"Krennic stays at 17. Embo, you need 18 or better to win. Let's find out what your first card is. You'll be starting off with a four."
«I guess I have to go again here,» Embo said.
"We'll turn over the next card for you. To your four, we add a three for a new score of seven. Do you want to play a side card or take the next main card."
«I'll take the main card for now.»
"Embo, we turn over the next card to reveal a seven, doubling your score to 14. That's a tough score for your decision-making, but I still have to ask what you want to do."
«I want the next card again.»
"Embo, you need a four through six here to win game number one. We have... a three for a dreaded tie. As you know, we don't allow ties, so you have to play another card."
«Now, I'll try a side card.»
"Embo is hoping for something that doesn't put him over 20. the first card off our side deck is the plus or minus one. Embo, adding one to your score breaks the tie and gives you the win for game one."
The audience briefly cheered.
"You also get another 100 credits for the win, and we'll start game two. Krennic, you once again have control, and the top card is a four."
"I'll take it, and the next card," Krennic said.
"Very well. I guess I don't have to give you any choices. The next card is a one. You have five. What will you do this time?"
"I'll go ahead and take the next card, too."
"Krennic is eager to find good cards and a win. A two gives him a score of seven."
"Hmm, I have to go again. These low cards are frustrating."
"Let's see what we can give you now. We have... another four. You have 11 now."
"You know what, give me a side card," Krennic stated.
"Let's see how helpful that is. We'll add a plus one card which gives you 12. Maybe it helps, maybe not."
"I guess I need one more card."
"If it's higher than eight, you bust. The next card is... a seven for a score of 19!"
"I'll stay."
"Krennic stays at 19. Embo, that means you need 20 to win the match. It's definitely possible. Let's get you started with an eight."
«Go ahead and give me the next card,» Embo told Nod.
"The next card in our main deck is two. Look at that. You have ten. You need ten for the win, and I don't think any have appeared yet."
«Let's hope it comes now. Give me the next card.»
"If it's a ten you win the game, the 1500-credit jackpot, and the match. Embo's next card is a six for 16."
After the audience groaned slightly, Embo said, «I gues sI'll be taking the next card, too.»
"Embo you need a four for the win or less to stay alive. It's a ten. You're over, but you can play a side card in hopes of reducing your score to 20 or less."
«Yeah, I'll do that.»
"Embo, you need to reduce your score by at least six. We have a plus two. You have 28, which is way too much. Krennic wins game two."
Once again, the audience cheered the win.
"OK, we're tied at one game apiece. Embo, you get to start the deciding game. Note that you have no side cards while Krennic has one. Embo, you're in control of a five."
«Pass,» Embo stated.
"Embo is going to try some strategy. Krennic, you have a five and control of the board.
"I like my chances of a high card, so I'll take the next one," Krennic said.
"To your five, we'll add... another five for a total of ten."
"Hmm, I like my chances now. Let me take another card."
"Krennic would love a ten here. We'll give you yet another five. You have 15."
Ignoring most of the audience's advice to stay, Krennic said, "I'll play my side card."
"Anything that's not a six or puts you over 20 helps here. It's a minus one to drop you to 14. You can stay, take the next card, or pass."
"I'm going to take the next card again."
"Six or less helps, seven or more is a bust and the match for Embo. We have a one to put you back at 15."
"I'll take my chances now and stay."
"Embo, you need 16 or more without busting. Your first card off the main deck is the last five. I bet Krennic wish he hadn't chosen to stay now. But what's done is done."
«I have no choice but to go again.»
"Indeed. Your next card is a nine for 14. You're one behind Krennic, but you need six or less here."
«Let's hope that's what I get.»
"Two through six are the cards that give you the match. We reveal the next card and show you an eight. That gives you 22. You bust, and Krennic gets the game and the match!"
Embo shook Krennic's hand while the audience applauded.
"Krennic, you have 200 more credits for a total of 400. More importantly, you advance to the semifinals where you compete against whomever wins twice next time."
"That's pretty impressive, Krennic replied."
"Embo, you won three games for 300 credits. Plus we'll give you a consolation prize to thank you for joining us on our Galactic Gambit Tournament."
«This wasn't bad. Earning 300 credits for doing nothing but playing games was fun to be honest.»
"I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. Tune in next time for the conclusion of group play. Until then, thanks for joining us on Galactic Gambit, and see you soon."
Nod talked to Embo and Krennic some before mingling with the audience during the final credits.
