Chapter 4: Kendall's back
Logan awakened to see James, Jeff, Carlos with Andy, and Kendall staring down at him. He sprang up from the sofa, looking directly at Kendall.
"You...Where did you...how did...what?"
"Look, baby," Kendall went to grab Logan's hand but the brunette jerked away from him.
"Don't. Touch. Me." Logan warned menacingly.
"Look, I know this is crazy but I need you to hear me out."
"I'm having trouble listening to anything you're saying right now..,you're supposed to be dead!" Logan said standing up in fury.
"Logan, calm down," James said calmly promptly making his sibling turn his anger on him.
"Calm down?! You want me to calm down?! How can I be when my dead boyfriend shows up in my house acting as if everything's normal? And how can you just stand there and be cool with all of this? Did you have something to do with it?!" James shied away from responding. Logan's eyes widened with tears stinging at the brim, daring to fall over.
"You knew about this?! About his whole death thing?!"
"James, is that true?" Carlos asked, holding Andy safely as he stood up. James bowed his head in shame and nodded.
"James, how could you?" Carlos said in disbelief.
"I-I can't believe you." Logan said through gritted teeth and choked voice. " I can't fucking believe you!" He said grabbing Andy from Carlos and stormed up to his room and slamming the door, making them all flinch.
"That went well." Kendall said sarcastically. James turned to Carlos who was pacing the floor.
"Carlos? Baby, I'm so-"
"Save it, James." Carlos said marching into the kitchen. He was angry and James didn't want to anger him anymore, so he just sat on the couch. Jeff stood there awkwardly before finally breaking the silence.
"So, who are you exactly?"
"Why do you need to know?" Kendall shot back.
"Dude quit messing around, you've already caused enough problems tonight." James said stressed running his hands through his hair. "That asshole, right there, is Kendall. He was dead but has now returned." James said nonchalantly.
"Wait? You were dead?"
"Thought to be." Kendall quipped." I just went away for a bit. Wait, why am I telling you this? I don't even know you."
"I'm Jeff. Logan's neighbor."
"Oh, so you're the guy Logan's crushing on?" Kendall snickered.
"Kendall!" James scolded.
"Possibly. What's it to you?"Jeff said becoming increasingly irritated. Kendall sensed it and stood up from the couch.
"Well, I think you need to step off and keep away from Logan." Kendall warned stepping into Jeff's personal space. Surprisingly, when Jeff stood up, they both were the same height.
"Why is that?"
"Because he's mine. That's why, dipshit."
"Oh, really? I don't remember seeing your name on him." Jeff replied stepping into Kendall's face.
"You'd better back the fuck off if you know what's best for you." Kendall said, pushing Jeff a bit.
"You back the fuck off, asshole. At least Logan wants to see me!" Jeff shot back while pushing Kendall. This set the blonde off, causing him to lunge at the brunette. James ran over to the two and pulled Kendall off of Jeff knowing that he'd surely hurt him.
"Knock it off, you two!" James yelled in a stern voice. Jeff and Kendall both were huffing and glaring at each other, ready to strike if the other so much as flinched.
"Now, Kendall, you sit over there. Jeff, you sit there." James commanded as if the two were young boys who rough-housed too much.
"Now, I know that tonight's events took a bit of a turn, but\fighting isn't going to make any of this better."
"You're right...I'm sorry." Jeff said softly.
"Kiss ass." Kendall retorted under his breath.
"Kendall, shut up. At least he apologized, which you have yet to do."
"I don't know if you noticed, but that's what I came here to do. However, the person who I ultimately need to apologize to is clearly not down here at the moment." Kendall slouched back against the couch, sighing. Jeff decided to speak amidst the awkward silence.
"I'm going to go check on Logan and make sure he's okay." He stood up, which caused Kendall to stand up, blocking his way to the stairs. The two glared at each other before James stepped in once again.
"Just let him do it, Kendall. We both know Logan won't open the door to either of us, given the situation." Kendall glared at James before moving out of the way to let Jeff pass. He watched as the brunette walked up the stairs until he couldn't see him anymore. He balled his fists in fury and punched the nearby wall.
Jeff knocked lightly on the door just in case the baby was sleep.
"Logan?"
"Go away, Kendall." Logan's shaky voice came through the door.
"It's Jeff."
"Oh...Go away." He said again.
"Come on, Logan. You can't hide in there forever." He jiggled the handled to see if it was open but it was locked."Come out...for me."
"James, what am I gonna do, dude?"
"I don't know, man! With you showing up here tonight and not staying at the safe house as I told you, ruined a lot of things." Kendall sat there and sighed.
"Do you think he'll let me see him?"
"See who?" James asked annoyed.
"See...my son. It's a boy, right?" Kendall asked looking at James.
"Yeah, you have a baby boy. He's absolutely beautiful." James said softly.
"Really?" Kendall smiled.
"Yeah. He's the perfect blend of you and Logan, although he looks a lot like you. His name is Andy Landon Knight."
"He gave him my last name?"
"Yeah, he wanted to because I guess a part of him wanted to keep you alive."
"Do you think he can stay with me back at my apartment sometime?" Kendall asked like a child who wanted to keep a stray puppy.
"I'm afraid that's not something for me to decide."
Logan slid off the bed, walked to the door and unlocked it. Jeff sat on the floor until Logan opened the door. He stood up and was face to face with the shorter brunette.
"Hey there. You wanna talk about it?" Jeff asked placing his hand on Logan's shoulder. Logan shook his head. He could barely form words at the moment. 'Kendall is back' was all he could think about.
"I'm sorry, Jeff for all of this. I didn't mean to get you tangled in all of my drama."
"No need to apologize. Sure, it's a lot to take in, but nothing that can't be looked over." Jeff looked sincerely into Logan's eyes as if trying to peek at his soul. He wrapped his arms around Logan and squeezed gently. The embrace made Logan's crush on the taller man deepen. How he wished that Jeff could embrace him like this every day. What came next shocked Logan the most. Jeff pulled away slightly from Logan and leaned down closing the distance between their lips and kissing Logan. The brunette spy melted into the kiss but soon realized what he was doing and anxiously pulled away.
"Wait! We can't do this. what about your boyfriend?"
"There's no boyfriend. I made him up to see if you'd get jealous. And you didn't. But you're always cute in whatever you're doing. Taking out the trash, washing your car, spying on me while I work out." Jeff winked. Logan put his palms up to his face in embarrassment as his cheeks began to turn red.
"Oh my god. You knew?"
"Well, I started to notice the plants moved every time I would work out and I figured it couldn't just be the wind." Jeff chuckled and grabbed Logan's chin and bringing his lips to meet his. The kiss was sweet and gentle. It definitely made Logan feel better.
"I wouldn't have anyone else spy on me though. Now, let's head back down." Logan smiled and closed his door softly to not wake Andy up who was in his second crib in Logan's room. Jeff took Logan's hand in his making Logan smile and the two journeyed back downstairs.
James started gathering his things. He figured Carlos would be ready to go by then and that Logan wouldn't be coming down anytime soon. The latter was proven wrong when he heard hushed voices on the stairs.
Kendall and James both looked up at the two and found their fingers intertwined. Kendall stood up and rushed to Logan making him step back slightly.
"Logan, look, I—" He was cut off by a slap to his face. The brunette was glaring at the blonde, tears of anger at the brim of his eyes.
"Ok, I deserved that. Just hear me out!" Kendall wanted Logan to hear what he had to say but I was like Logan wasn't gonna let that happen.
"You need to leave. Now."
"Okay, okay, I will. But first, can I see my son?" Logan froze in his place. Thoughts of Kendall and him raising their baby together that he once dreamt about flashed through his mind. Then, the fight they had about Logan keeping the baby the day before Kendall's "death" popped into his mind and angered him even more.
"Can you see my son? You're asking me can you see the son that you didn't want me to have? The son that's brought me more joy than you ever will. No! You can't see him. Now leave."
"Logan, please." Kendall pleaded.
"I believe he asked you to leave." Jeff said stepping slightly in front of Logan.
"Back off, dude! This doesn't involve you. This is between me and Logan!" Kendall said barked at Jeff.
"Loges, just let him see his son." Logan turned his hard glare on James. It was the look that said, "don't say a word." James relinquished his efforts.
"You know what? I'll see you later. Carlos, let's go." Carlos appeared from out of the kitchen. James tried to grab Carlos' hand but the latino pulled it out of his reach and headed out the door and to the car. James sighed and walked towards the door first but not before stopping by Kendall.
"Come out to the car when you're done. I'll take you back to your apartment." Kendall nodded. James exited and Kendall's gaze turned back to Logan.
"Logan, please let me see him."
"No, you're not gonna hurt him like you've hurt me." Logan's tears spilled over but he wiped them away. Kendall huffed, knowing he couldn't break Logan out of his stubbornness.
"Fine. When you quit being so stubborn, you know where to find me." Kendall glared at Jeff once more then stormed out and slammed the door behind him. The slam of the door made Logan jump and his mind instantly wanted to turn back time and let Kendall hold his son for the first time. He wished they could try to be a family of some sort. However, things weren't that simple. Kendall would have to earn his way back into Logan's life.
"I'm gonna head on home. I've got work in the morning. Unless you want some company." Jeff said.
"No, you go ahead. I think I need some alone time to regroup and rethink everything. I'll call you."Logan said kissing his cheek.
"Ok, well, I'll see you later. Thanks for the invite. I had a good time. Well, mostly, heh." Jeff kissed Logan's hand and exited the house. Logan finally broke down and sobbed, falling to the floor. Every single emotion he had was released in his tears. He managed to pull himself together and head upstairs to get in bed. He hoped as he laid down that when he woke up, everything that took place would all have been just a dream.
