September Rain
Chapter 15
"What do you mean they're discharging me?" Rose asked dumbfounded.
Dimitri squeezed her hand in a comforting gesture, but all it did was make Rose's anger flare up. How dare they insist that she leave her baby. She was just barely born two weeks ago, and she was still in the NICU for Christ sake. How could she leave her?
"Unfortunately, our rooms are filling fast with everyone giving birth this month and our policy prohibits us from keeping patients who don't need medical attention. I'm sorry to have to do this, but we need you to sign the discharge papers immediately."
"Can't we have at least another week to think about things? The queen has spent more than her fair share of money to ensure that her goddaughter and her mother could stay. Why are you pushing this?"
"Like I said we don't have the room and no matter what the queen contributes that won't change. I'm sorry but we'll need you to leave by the morning."
"I understand." She agreed not wanting to be a bother
"I am truly sorry for this. I'll be here in the morning to help you if you need me."
"Can I see September? Seeing as how I won't be able to visit her as much as I would like to." Rose asked unsettled.
"Of course. Did you want me to bring her to you?"
"Will the doctors allow that? I know she hasn't been in the best shape as of late."
"If it helps, I can double check with her doctor before bringing her in to see you and I'll be in the room just in case. I think some mother- daughter bonding time is exactly what September needs "
"I would like that very much. Although, she's probably more her daddy's girl then anything." She said giving a slight shoulder bump to Dimitri who smiled back at her.
"I would beg to differ, but we'll see when she gets older."
"I'll go find the doctor. Give me thirty minutes." The nurse said shutting the door tightly as Dimitri turned to Rose pulling her into a hug as the tears started to fall.
"Roza." Was all he said as she clung to him. She didn't want to leave her baby, but she had no choice. And it really sucked.
"I don't want to leave her Dimitri. What if-"
"Hey. We can't think like that. Sher needs us to be strong for her. And that's exactly what we'll do."
Rose nodded wiping her tears as Dimitri kissed her lips in a comforting gesture.
"It'll be alright. It has to be. After all we've been through to get here it has to be."
"Do you think we're being punished?"
"Why on earth would you think we're being punished?"
"It just seems like whenever we're finally happy the universe finds ways to fuck it up. "
"If anything, I think we're blessed."
"Blessed?"
"After all we've been through, I'm surprised you don't think so Roza. We're two dhampirs who the world frowned upon being together and yet here we are married and still guardians. Also, here I am a dhampir once more after being turned strogoi. I would be dead right now if it wasn't for the miracle of spirit. And it was because of bringing brought back that we were able to have September in the first place. You know how many people would want to be in our positions, so yes, I believe that we are blessed. We're blessed in ways that others are not, and we should be proud about that. All this is, is one more bump in the road that we have to overcome and after all we've been through, I like our odds."
Smiling Rose leaned into Dimitri's arms where he held her tight.
"Thanks for the remainder."
"Always." Dimitri smiled closing the distance between their lips as the door flew open revealing Sydney and Lissa.
"Sorry for interrupting guys. Should we come back later?" Sydney asked looking between them and Lissa.
"No. It's fine. You two go ahead and stay. I'm going to talk to admissions about your paperwork for tomorrow." He said placing a kiss on the top of her head and leaving her alone with Sydney and Lissa.
"What paperwork?" Lissa asked in confusion making Rose frown because she had hoped that Lissa had missed that part but of course she hadn't.
"It's nothing to worry about. I promise. Where's Christian and Adrian?"
"They took Declan to see the baby. Through the window of course. How have you been doing?"
"I'm trying to hold up the best that I can, but the next few months are not going to be easy for me or Dimitri."
"Well whatever happens we're all here for you no matter what."
"In that case I need to ask a favor."
