Chapter 9: Didn't See You
The sun's rays broke through the window, hitting Logan in the face. But that's not what woke him up. What woke him up was the sound of Kendall snoring…Loudly. Kendall slept on the chaise in the corner of Logan's room. Earlier in the night, Kendall tried to slip into bed with him, but Logan had to remind him that it wasn't like that between them. Kendall got out the bed, albeit begrudgingly, and shuffled over to the chaise, where he was now "calling the horses". Growing heavily annoyed with his loud snoring, Logan took a pillow from the other side of his bed and pitched it at the blonde's face, his perfect aim serving him well. Kendall broke out of his sleep to the pillow hitting his face and finding Logan staring at him with a grin.
"Morning Sunshine." Logan teased. "How'd you sleep?". Kendall flipped him off and turned over to face him. "Not as good as I would've been sleeping next to you." He replied. Logan rolled his eyes and threw the covers off of him. It was strange not being woken up by Andy but he didn't question it. "You know we can't do that." Logan slid out of the bed and walked over to his dresser to get clean clothes to put on for work. Kendall sat up and looked at Logan through the mirror that sat on top of his dresser.
"Kendall… When we first met, we kinda threw ourselves into, whatever this is. We never had the chance to get to know each other. We knew of each other and learned how to work together, but -"
"We never got to know each other." Kendall interjected. Logan nodded in response.
"You and I never became friends. Yeah, we talked here and there about our lives but we never REALLY built a solid bond." Logan said gazing back at Kendall through the mirror. "All I'm saying is, let's just try to be each other's friend and we'll see where it goes from there." Kendall nodded with disappointment. He could've sworn that last night was somewhat of a sign that Logan wanted him or to be with him. But, he must've read the cards wrong.
"I'm, uh- gonna go, check on Andy." Kendall said despondently, rising from the chaise and walking out of the bedroom. Logan watched him through the mirror and looked at himself in shame but knew it was for the best. He grabbed his clothes and headed for his bathroom.
Kendall walked across the hall and into Andy's room. He thought the house was a little too quiet and thought he should check on his son. Kendall walked over to the baby crib and saw his son peacefully sleeping. He had woken up around 4 a.m. , crying , because he was hungry. However, before he could get up to do anything, Logan woke up and sprung into action by going to get Andy and bottle and feeding it to him. He wanted to ask Logan to feed him but he didn't want that awkward moment of possibly getting rejected. Despite his badass demeanor, he still was afraid of rejection.
He gently picked up his sleeping son, being careful to cradle his head and held him to his chest. He carried the baby downstairs with him so that he could watch some TV before heading to work.
Logan walked out of the bathroom, back into his room to get dressed. He dropped his towel and stared at himself in the mirror. He looked at how his body had changed over the years and how the scar on his stomach would forever be a reminder of one of the best days of his life. He brought his absolute bundle of joy into this world and nothing else could be more special than that. Granted, it didn't go as he had planned. He had hoped to be married before he had a baby. He was 18 years old when he found out he had the rare gene to be able to carry children. It took him by surprise and his father definitely by surprise. On top of that, the coincidental fact that he was gay as well was a lot to take in. His life as he knew it changed for what seemed like the worst but ultimately the better. He's got a happy baby. He's found a decent guy who likes him and doesn't judge him for the flaws of his past. Then there's Kendall. The one who gets in his brain and under his skin. The second half of their once dark, twisted, conflicting love. Logan wanted to move on with his life but didn't know how to he didn't know how to do that without Kendall. But, these are thoughts he'd never speak out loud. To say them means they'd be real.
Logan pulled on his shirt and put each leg into his black jeans. He slipped his black leather jacket on and took a final look in the mirror. He took his hand and brushed up his spiked hair. Deeming himself ready, he walked out of the bedroom and down the stairs to the living room.
When Logan got downstairs, he smelled bacon and another smell of either waffles or pancakes. He followed the scent of food to the kitchen. The brunette walked in to find Kendall holding Andy and slowly swaying to the soft jazz as he cooked the remainder of the pancakes.
"Smelling good in here. Whatcha making?" Logan said with a smile. Kendall turned around and smiled at Logan. "Just making a little breakfast for us. Don't worry. I went on and made a bottle for Andy so you that you sit down and eat."
"Where'd you learn to make a bottle?" Logan asked sitting in the high chair in front of the counter. Kendall smirked as proceeded to explain his knowledge of babies. "After my mom had my sister, and my dad was sorta out of the picture, my mom worked at a diner. She had to work at night to make money for the family and I was left in charge of my baby sister, Katie." Kendall placed the plate of food in front of Logan along with a fork.
"I basically did everything for my mom while she worked. I changed Katie's diapers, bathed her, put her to bed and barely had just enough time to do my addition and subtraction."
"Oh, wow…I didn't know you had to grow up so quickly." Logan said with a look of surprise. Kendall merely nodded his head. Andy began to fuss so he snapped back into dad mode. He turned back to the microwave and grabbed the warm bottle of milk that was inside. He tilted Andy back into the crook of his arm and pressed the nipple to the baby's lips who happily accepted it.
"There you go, buddy. There ya go." Kendall kissed his forehead as he drink the milk. Logan smiled lightly at the sight before him. He was proud Kendall was making an effort to be there for his son.
"You wanna sit down and eat? I can hold him." Logan asked. "Thanks, but I don't usually eat before I go into the office. You never know what you're gonna see." Kendall said. " But, I do think I'll go get ready." He walked around the counter and handed the baby to Logan, who sat him up on his lap. Kendall placed the bottle of milk next to Logan's plate before walking out of the kitchen. The doorbell rang as Kendall walked past it, making him turn around to look out the curtain by the door to see that it was Jeff. Kendall huffed and cursed under his breath before turning the knob.
"Don't worry! I'll—" By the time Logan had said anything, Kendall had already thrown the door open to reveal Jeff on the other side of it.
"Well, look at who we have here. Jake! Good to see you buddy!" Kendall snidely remarked. Jeff rolled his eyes in annoyance and pushed past him.
"Where's Logan?" Jeff asked. Kendall looked at the tall brunette in disbelief that he had pushed past him. Logan got up from the counter to meet Jeff halfway in the living room. He adjusted Andy so he carry him properly. When he reached Jeff, he hugged the taller man then gave him a kiss on the cheek. Kendall turned away, not really wanting to see Logan kiss someone that wasn't him.
"How are you, babe?" Jeff asked rubbing Logan's arm. Kendall rolled his eyes at the cheesiness of the scene. "I'm fine. What's up?" Logan asked.
"I haven't seen you in a minute. I thought you had forgotten about me." Jeff chuckled lightly. "You know I could never forget about you." Logan said with a laugh. At this point, Kendall was making his way up the stairs to get ready. Logan turned and gave Kendall an apologetic look as he headed to the sofa. Kendall just continued up the stairs, slamming the door to Logan's bedroom
In the Diamond household, James and Carlos had been having sex non-stop. Almost every position imaginable, in every room of their house. They went to the doctor recently just to see if Carlos even remotely had the carrier gene. The doctor had been rather uncertain if Carlos actually had the gene. He informed the couple that their chances were slim of having a baby but that shouldn't deter them from trying. The doctor said he'd have to do more "blood work" to get definite results, though it would take a few weeks to even determine if the possibility of Carlos having a child was even likely. It took more of a toll on their relationship than they thought. James started to not come home after his missions. He would go on a mission, come home, grab some clothes, leave a note saying he was staying at a hotel for the night. Carlos ended up sleeping in their king-sized bed alone.
At the office, Carlos was walking back to his office when he saw James talking to one of their colleagues. For whatever reason, he felt nervous about going up to him. That feeling made him think "Why am i afraid to speak to my own husband?" He mustered up the will to walk over to James and stood in front of him until he told the agent he'll talk to him later. James turned back to Carlos, who looked pissed off.
"Hey babe -"
"Don't 'Hey Babe' me. Where have you been?" Carlos said in a harsh whisper.
"I've been on back-to-back missions, babe. What's the big deal?" James asked.
"WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL?!" Carlos' volume increased, causing agents to look at the couple. James sighed and pulled Carlos to a more secluded area.
"Let go. The big deal, James, is the fact that I haven't seen my husband in over a week and then when you're home you don't sleep with me, you barely talk to me, you don't hang out with me. All you do is come in and bang me around and then leave like I'm some cheap hooker." Carlos choked up as the words seemed harder to find and his heart was too broken to mend.
"Babe, I'm sorry." James pulled Carlos into his chest. Carlos simply pushed out of his embrace and looked at James with wet, red eyes.
"I want you home tonight. We need to talk." Carlos said in a dark tone. James was slightly off-put by this as he was used to the upbeat and warm tone of his husband's voice. Carlos turned and walked away, leaving James to think about his next decision.
Logan was in the gym practicing his stick fighting with one of the other agents, quickly disarming him in a matter of thirty seconds. By the end of the training, Logan was breathing heavily. He didn't know how much his body had really been out of whack. Pre-pregnancy, Logan could do 8 backflips, 5 cartwheels, and 3 laps and just be slightly out of breath. The conditioning and endurance training field agents went through were extremely rigorous. It was truly the testing point to see if the agents could endure even worse situations than what they face in training.
Logan then brandished a sword from the weapons closet and set it to the side. He closed his eyes and inhaled as he extended his arms outward and raised them above his head. Placing his palms together and bringing them down, he felt someone place their hands on his and guide them down to the center of his abdomen.
"Good form." Logan heard Kendall's voice behind him. He turned around to see the blonde in his usual black attire. Although this time, he had a blazer on instead of his black leather jacket.
"Thank you. Whats the occasion?" Logan asked picking up the sword and practicing his martial arts forms.
"It's my first day of getting my field agent status back so I wanted to look nice for my new ID." Kendall smiled. "What do you think? How do I look?" Logan smirked.
"You look…handsome. Very handsome." Logan looked Kendall up and down.
"Oh! Annnnd, I'm even wearing some new cologne. Take a whiff!" Kendall craned his head to the side to expose his neck. Logan rolled his eyes. The "Bad-Ass" Kendall was acting like a third grader who wanted to impress a crush. Logan stepped forward and took a sniff of Kendall's cologne. The scent was absolutely intoxicating.
"Is that Mahogany Wood?" Logan asked. "Yeah it is" Kendall said with a smile, knowing that that was Logan's favorite cologne.
"Well, Agent Knight, I'd say you're very photo ready." Logan smiled.
'Thank you… that means a lot." Kendall said with a gentle smile. A silence fell over the two as they looked into each others' eyes when the door burst open and Jo walked through, heading straight for them.
"Kendall, hon, Mike's ready for you to meet him in I.D. room." Jo said stepping right in between Logan and Kendall. She pressed her body right up against his and kissed him on the mouth. Logan turned away and lifted the sword into his hand. Jo pulled away and turned to face Logan. "Oh, Logan, I didn't see you there." Jo tossed her blonde hair over her shoulder with a smirk.
"Didn't you?" Logan remarked snidely as he twirled the sword in his hand. "How are you today, Jo?"
"I'm just lovely today and yourself?" Jo asked, nonchalantly.
"I'm— "
"That's good. C'mon Kenny, you're gonna be late." Jo pulled Kendall by the arm towards the door. Kendall gave Logan an apologetic smile as he was pulled away. Just as the two made it to the door, a sword flew past Jo's head and straight through the middle of the door. Kendall and Jo turned around and glared at Logan.
"Sorry, Jo. I didn't see you." Logan said with a smirk and walked away to grab his towel and his water bottle, heading for the locker room. Kendall let out a small chuckle as Jo groaned and stormed away. He looked at the blade in the door one last time before walking out of the practice room.
