Like Other Girls
Chapter 4
"Do you really think all it will take for Rebekah Mikaelson to like me is a really rocking outfit? No offense Lexi, but this all sounds a little insane." Elena questioned as her and Lexi walked the crowded mall with Damon in tow.
"That's not what I'm saying at all Elena. What I'm saying is that a couple of rather fashionable outfits will be a good start to helping your case. You wouldn't want to commit social suicide in your first year here, do you?"
"No?" Elena answered questionably as Damon gave his sister an eyeroll.
"Good. Now just follow my lead and everything should be just fine."
"That seems scarier than anything Rebekah Mikaelson can come up with." Damon stated teasing Lexi who immediately narrowed his eyes slightly.
"You obviously don't know Rebekah that well. Trust me."
"Easier said than done."
"You'll feel better after the trail period is up. Now where should we go first?"
"You're the fashion expert here. You pick. I trust your judgement."
"Alright then follow me."
As Elena followed Lexi into the nearest store, Lexi rummaged through the racks throwing clothes in Elena's direction as she gestured towards the dressing room wanting Elena to start trying them on.
"Go on let's see how fabulous you look."
"I sure hope so." Elena muttered under her breath as she went into the dressing room to try on some clothes.
After trying on the clothes, Elena stepped out of the dressing room and Lexi gave her a low whistle as she looked her up and down in approval.
"Damn girl you look fine. Don't you think she looks good Damon?"
"Yeah. She looks really good." Damon answered averting his eyes which made her stomach drop to her feet. Did he really mean what he said? Or was he just saying it to make Lexi happy?
"Don't listen to him Elena, you look amazing, boys just can't appreciate great outfits. They're busier trying to get us out of them."
"Lexi!" Damon exclaimed as she put her hand up stopping his oncoming rant.
"You know it's true and don't convince me otherwise. Elena you look fucking fantastic and you will rock it at Rebekah's party. No matter what Damon thinks."
"Whatever" Damon muttered as he went out of the dressing room leaving her and Lexi alone.
"I'm sorry about my brother's behavior. He usually isn't this much of an asshole. Sorry Elena."
"It's alright. Maybe he's just having one of his off days."
"Still doesn't give him a right to be an asshole. He should learn how to be a better friend."
"He's a great friend and he probably had a rough day today. I never really got around to asking him about his first day of school. If anyone needs to learn to be a better friend, it's me."
"You're a great friend. You should give yourself more credit."
"Maybe. I'm going to go get dressed before we pay for this."
"Don't forget the accessories!" Lexi yelled back as Elena changed back into her clothes wondering if tonight would all be worth it.
After Elena and Lexi finished at the mall, Lexi took Elena and Damon back to the house and started working on Elena's makeover.
"Damn Elena when's the last time you waxed your eyebrows?" Lexi asked plucking one of the hairs on her eyebrow making her wince slightly. Damn did this shirt hurt.
"Never. You know we don't have money for anything besides the necessities."
"Well you need to start making it a necessity. You don't want to walk around looking like Chewbacca do you?"
"No. Did I look like Chewbacca before?"
"Kind of, but a cute Chewbacca."
"Gross. I'm never leaving the house again."
"Oh, stop being melodramatic. You'll be fine now that I'm helping you."
"I guess so."
"Have you ever thought about doing something different with your hair?"
"Like what exactly?"
"Maybe a haircut, some curls, possibly some highlights."
"I guess we can do that."
"Perfect. Let me get the hair dye."
"Why do you want to change your hair?" Damon asked leaning against the door frame.
"It's the start of the rest of our lives Damon. I need a fresh look to go with the new me."
"Well if it matters, I like the way you look now. You don't have to change your look just to impress some snooty rich girls who probably won't even know your name by tomorrow."
"Thanks Damon, you really know how to make a girl feel special."
Before he could answer Lexi opened the door looking between them as if she could sense the tension.
"What's going on here?"
"Nothing. I'm going to get dressed." Damon answered exiting the room before Elena could stop him. She hated when they fought.
"What's up with him?"
"Beats me. Come on. Let's do my hair." Elena smiled as she tried to shake off how weird Damon was being. She just hoped tonight was better or she didn't know what she would do.
