Chapter 7: The Train Part 1

Severus Snape hated trains, well not so much all trains just the Hogwarts Express. Which took him farther and farther away from his beloved Narcissia. The Hogwarts Express train was filled with snot filled, runny nose children, which he detested most of all. He had half a mind to jump off of the moving train just to get away from them, however he kept reminding himself that he made a promise to his love to keep an eye on her one and only son. Severus has never broken his promises to Cissy not a single one and he wasn't going to start breaking them now.

Severus Snape was never fond of children, as an adult and there were a select few that he could stand being around: his God-son Draco, his best mate Blaise, and there was that boy Theodore Nott. Theo was a quiet young lad very reserve and soft spoken. Severus never quite understood how a boy from one of Britain's most prominent wizarding families could be so kind, well-mannered and above all not a spoiled little brat like all the other children whom came from a similar backgrounds. He thought at one time the boy was possibly adopted, but when you saw Theo was the spitting image of his father, with little bits of his mother mixed into his features.

Those were the few children Snape could stand, as he walked passed an open compartment full of first years, they were noticeable by the simply plain black robes they all donned with the Hogwarts crest stitched into their outer robes. One boy in particular looked right up at him and rubbed his running nose on his sleeve. Severus wrinkled his face in disgust at the boy and with the flick of his wrist shut the compartment door quickly. "Filthy….little…creatures…" he said out loud as he walked farther down the aisle and found the Heads Compartment empty "Hmmm…odd…" Snape added looking around the train to see where the Head Boy and Head Girl could have gone, he shrugged to himself before ducking inside away from the germy children.

Snape sat down with a content sigh of relief, leaning his head back against the headrest of his seat and closed his eyes for a moment. It took most, if not all of his energy to get up and about these days. The injuries he sustained during the War were quite serious, even more serious than he let Draco know. Narcissia knew how to brewed up the best Pain Relieving Potion he had ever had, the only side effect was that it made him extremely drowsy. Snape reached inside is coat pocket to take the rest of the potion, hoping and praying that this would knock him out for the remainder of their journey to Hogwarts. Severus frown when he notice that his pocket was empty, he patted the front of his coat and trouser pockets, "Blast!" he cursed out loud and begun to panic.

"Loose something Professor Snape?" The curse breaker Bill Weasley asked entering the compartment, sitting down across from him; shutting the door behind him.

Severus growled in frustration at himself for being a compete blunder-head, "As a matter of fact yes. I believe I have missed placed my potions. I thought I had one in my pocket; but it appears as though I lost it and my replacements are in my trunk…at the back of the train..." Snape said with huff and sat back in his seat eying the man across from him. "Oh, and you don't wish to go and retrieve them?" Bill asked him, with a confused frown.

"I'll be fine without it till we get to the school." Severus said shaking his head at the red head and paled at the thought of himself having to move through the train among the sea of those snotty brats. Bill shrugged to himself as he took out his copy of the Daily Prophet.

Severus turned his attention to the passing green fields of the country side as they past them by, when the train tracks began to jar and shake the compartments of the train as it began to turn. The movements caused Snape to wince in pain, he hissed loudly as the train jarred harshly once more. Bill looked up from the paper, "Are you sure your alright?" Snape nodded and gripped his cane tightly, till the whites of his knuckles where showing.

Bill sighed and folded up his paper in his lap, then took out a flask from his coat pocket. "When I was attacked by Greyback, I would get this terrible pain in my face. It almost felt like his claws were still digging in to my cheek then setting it on fire from under my skin. Pain potions helped for a while to dull the pain, till they didn't help any more. I found this flask among my brother Percy's things…" Bill explained before handing it over to the older wizard. "My my Mr. Weasley having alcohol on school grounds is a friable offence. What would our Head Mistress say about this?" Professor Snape fanned horror and gladly took the flask from the red head. Tossing back the burning liquid down his throat, Severus gave the man a sour face as he handed the flask back to the red head.

Bill gave a hearty laugh, "What the Head Mistress doesn't know won't hurt her right, besides I'm just helping out my fellow colleague. You would do the same for me. " Bill stated as he too took a small shot from his flask, before slipping it back into his coat pocket. Snape could have easily corrected the young wizard on that statement, he had learned long ago not to trust too easily. "I was wondering what a Curse Breaker was doing on the train heading Hogwarts."

"Our esteemed Head Mistress asked me to be the new Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor this term, and possibly the year give if my performance is amicable or till she finds someone better fit for the job. I guess I'm not too surprised to see you here as well Professor Snape, you are were always the best Potions Master this school has ever had." Bill complemented the older wizard.

Snape smirked, "That's very kind of you Mr. Weasley. I can't say many in your family…or your friends for that matter; would say the same about me." Snape muttered and leaned back against seat again and began to close his eyes once again. Bill gave him a small smile unfolded his paper again and went back to reading.

Elsewhere on the Train

Hermione lead the group through the train looking for am open compartment for them. "Look at all the first years, I've never seen this many before." Ginny said in astonishment at all the young faces. Ron groaned, "Great more mouths to eat all the chocolate pudding in the Great Hall" the girls rolled their eyes at Ron; always thinking with his stomach rather than his head, Harry laughed a little.

"Don't worry Ron I'm sure the elves know your come back this year. I'm sure they made plenty of pudding just for you." Harry patted his back, they all grave a good hearty laugh at his expense. It was all in good fun as Ron's cheeks flushed. Things were starting to get back to normal for the gang, there were only mild stares from the first year students.

"Oh Merlin, it's the Golden Trio!" a group whispered in hush tones as they past, "Harry is so dreamy!" one of the girls said to the other.

"No, way Ron is much hotter!" the other girl counted

"I want to be just like Hermione, she is so smart!" one of the boys said to the girls who were arguing back and forth.

Over hearing all this caused Ron to smirk and put more peep in his step. He was perfectly content with being the center of attention among them. Harry however, had always been uncomfortable with the fame, attention. Nervously biting the inside of his check, as he often did. Ginny was right their by his side always aware of his uneasiness, slipping her hand into his leading him through the sea of students gawking at them.

"I better take care of this, I'll catch up with you guys in a second." Hermione said to them and put on her Head Girl mask on.

The trio continued on for a few moments till Ron found a compartment he liked, only problem was a lonely first year wad sitting alone. "Hey, mate." The dark skin boy looked up excitedly at them. "Your… you are Ron Weasley and...and… Harry Potter! Holy Merlin…Do you… are you… going to sit with me?!" they young boy asked happily as he pushed up his over size glasses back on his small nose.

Harry felt sorry for the young wizard, whom reminded him so much of himself during his first time in the wizarding world on a train heading to an unfamiliar place with no friend's or family. Ginny looked at her fiancée, and was about to agree to sitting with the boy. Ron however, had a different idea.

"No." Ron said simply and reach up and grabbed the boys bag, off the top rack. "Hey that's mine!" the kid shouted as Ron stood in the isle holding the bah overt his red head. "Give that back!" The kid yelled at him and tried to jump up and grab his bag. Ron let out a laugh, "Oh…is it…now? Well…I'll just..." Ron let out a mean laugh, then tossed the bag overt his shoulder down the isle away from the compartment.

The little boy ran past Harry and Ginny, with tears in his eyes.

"What the hell Ronald!" Ginny yelled at her brother as he sat down in the compartment with as content sigh. "What? We needed a compartment, I liked this one. Don't tell me you feel sorry for him." Ginny was red in the face said it all, she was pissed at him. "You are so Pig Headed Ronald Weasley!" she yelled

Ron looked baffled, "He should have been sitting with the other first years anyway." Ginny gritted her teeth at her dimwitted older brother. "I am NOT sitting with him!" Ginny stated to her love and stormed off after the kid, whom her brother made cry. Harry shook his head and rubbed his temples, as a headache stated to set in.

"Mate, you are an idiot." Harry sighed in annoyance.

"What?" Ron faked ignorance with the shrug of his shoulders. "You force that kid out of his seat by being a bully. I haven't the slightest clue what has gotten into you. Is like once people start talking about us and what we did during the War. It all goes to your head! Once your sister gets back you WILL apologize for acting like a complete ass-hat to that kid!" Harry said angrily to his friend. "Why should I have to apologize? He should have been sitting with the other first years." Ron explained again, clearly trying to justify his actions.

Harry sighed, and sat across from his best mate. "You remember our first year on the train?" Harry asked him, Ron nodded dumbly; not knowing it was a rhetorical question. "This is exactly the same thing. How would you feel if I hadn't let you sit with me that day, hmm? I think you and I would have a very different relationship then the one we do now, don't you?" Harry saw, Ron roll his tongue around his cheeks as if he was trying to decide how best to respond.

Harry sighed again, "Look…I'm not trying to make you feel bad or whatever…I'm just trying to get you to recognize that your actions and how you talk to people have consequences. That kid looks up to us…he sees us as his heroes. He'll have a lasting impression that Ronald Weasley is the biggest asshole he has ever met. Is that how you want people to see you as; while we spend out last year at Hogwarts together? If that's the case…I'm not so sure I want to be mates with someone like that..."

"Well….I don't think I could have said it better myself" Hermione said clapping her hands as Ginny smiled at him proudly. Harry's cheeks flushed and rubbed the back of his neck nervously. "How much of that did you both hear?" he asked as Hermione sat next to Ron, who slid over towards the window; and Ginny sat next to Harry. "All of it" the girls said in unison.

"Great, now I look like an even bigger ass" Ron muttered and pouted, they all chuckled at him. "Don't worry, I'm sure your fan-girls will still hanging on your every word. Ginny found me explained what had happened, we both calmed him down thankfully he won't be going to his head of house with this…when he gets one. It could have been real trouble for you Ronald if I hadn't covered for you." Hermione said snidely at him.

"I have never asked you to cover for me! I heard enough already from Harry!" he snapped at her in frustration. "I messed up, I get it! I don't need you rubbing our in my face too! You think your so much better than me, don't you!? You parade around my home with your nose stuck up in the air, looking down at us! At my family! At least my family still know who I am!" Ron ranted, both Harry and Ginny looked between the two of them, with their mouths hung open in shock. Before either of them knew what happened next.

There was a loud smack and Ron was covering half of his face.

Hermione sat back in her seat tears were streaming down her face. Her big hazel eyes wide with shock, as Ron's had glazed over with anger. "Why you little bit-" Hermione hurried out of the compartment and ran straight into the strong arms of Draco Malfoy. The blonde slowly wrapped his arms around the crying brunette, "Whoa…easy…hey…I got you…" Draco said cooed as he rubbing her back comforting her, as she cried into his soft white Oxford school shirt.

Draco coldly glared at the Weasel who was standing in the door way of the compartment, his freckled face was marked with a red hand print. "What they hell did you do, Weasel!?" the blonde snarled harshly at the red head. "None of your bloody business Malfoy, it's between me and that wench." the tall red head hissed back equal harshness in his voice. What the hell did he just call our mate, Draco's wolf growled in anger. It was an anger that Draco felt bubbling up to the surface.

Hermione felt a tumble in his chest; that caused her to pull away slightly.

Draco cleared his throat hoping the beautifully brilliant brunette would not notice, "I suggest you change your tone with me Weasley. Or you just might cause your house to loose points before you ever step foot on to campus." Draco said as he pointed proudly to the platinum plated badge on his lapel. "How the fuck did you make Head Boy!?" Ron questioned the blonde with intense aggravation. "Oh, it is quite simple Weasley when your second in our class. You however, wouldn't know anything about would you." Draco stated cheekily with smirk, as Ron's face began to redden with embarrassment and anger.

"McGonagall would never make a Death Eater Head Boy! You… you…must have paid off…yeah…some…someone made her give that to you!" Ron stuttered in anger as he waved an accusing finger at the blonde. Draco snarled, "I was found not guilty of those charges, Weasel! As far as your accusations go…I have never paid anyone off, I'm not my father and I never will be! I earned this badge! Just like Granger did!" Draco grabbed the brunette's hand and started to walk away but then turned back, "Ahhh and one other thing, Weasley. The Head Mistress was just following Dumbledore's last wishes." Draco added with a cocky smirk, as Ron shook with rage.

As Draco turned his back to the angry red head. Ron pulled out his wand, "Sectumsempra!" Ron hissed as the dark purple light shoot out of his wand. "Protego!" Hermione shouted throwing up a barrier around herself and Draco. "Expelliarmus!" Harry shouted quickly disarmed the red head. "WHAT THE BLOODY HE'LL IS WRONG WITH YOU RONALD WEASLEY!" Ginny screamed at him pointing her wand at her older brother throat.

"Did you just seriously try to curse me with my back turned?" Draco demanded furiously. He never thought the Weasel had it in him to curse another with their back turned. Ron was panting clearly out of breath from the amount of magical energy it took to cast that curse, he gave the blonde a smirk never the less. Draco clenched his fist in anger, "I hope you enjoyed the train ride. Petrificus Totalus" he said using wandless-magic to bind the wizard. "It will be your last" Draco added shoving the red head into the compartment, shutting him in alone.

The four of them just stood silently for a few awkward moments, "Well that was a bit more excitement than I bargained for." Harry chuckled softly trying to ease the tension that surrounded them. Draco chucked too, "Too right you are Potter, too right are...I was just coming to get Granger for our Perfects Meeting. Didn't think know I was going to be stepping into this shite." Draco peered angrily at the compartment door that Ron was behind.

Hermione cleared her throat, "We should head to the Head's compartment before we're late for out meeting. I'll see you guys for dinner in the Great Hall." Harry and Ginny both nodded to her and watched as the blonde Slytherin and the brunette Gryffindor walked away from them. Ginny wrapped her arm around Harry's waists. "Now, what are we going to do with your brother?" he asked her.

Ginny looked up at him with a mischievous glint in her eye and smirked.
