It Runs in the Family
Chapter 5
"Have you found her yet? Stefan asked startling Damon as he looked back and forth trying to find Elena.
"Of course not. What the fuck am I supposed to do if she does remember us?"
"That's your mess to clean up not mine, but happy finding, I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors with Ms. Gilbert."
"Fucker." Damon muttered under his breath at Stefan's retreating form while he looked around the room and finally caught the tail end of Elena's form. Thank God.
"Elena." He breathed out as he made his way to her causing her to shrink back in fear.
"What do you want?"
"Sorry I saw you and I wanted to see how your first day of school was going."
"Why do you care? It's not like we actually know each other."
"You just seem on edge."
"Geez I wonder why. It's not like my whole family just got murdered or anything."
"I heard about that. I'm so sorry for your loss."
"You and a thousand other people I'm sure."
"Well if you ever need someone to talk to then don't be a stranger."
"Thanks, I think I'd rather keep things to myself. So please be a stranger." She said walking away as Damon stood there baffled. Had she remembered him after all?
Sighing, Damon made his way to his next class where he set his books down and smiled at one of his best friends who was working feverously on her assignment.
"Hey Bon. Bon. How did your weekend treat you?"
"Terrible. My parents are the worst."
"What did they do this time?" Damon teased knowing full well if they compared parents, he would beat her out by a long shot.
"They're fighting over who gets to take me this weekend like I'm some kind of object instead of a teenager who could make her own decisions."
"I'm sorry that adults suck. If it helps, I can relate."
"How the hell can you relate? You have the perfect family."
"Define perfect."
"Your mother is one of the most notorious social workers in the system and your dad is an amazing judge. Not to mention your brother is one of the smartest people I know. How the hell do you not have the perfect family?"
"Glass houses can be deceiving." Damon responded not willing to elaborate.
"Speaking of glass houses, did Caroline tell you about Tyler's party tonight?"
"I've heard about it, but I do tend to block Caroline out, so I had no clue it was tonight."
"You should be nicer to Caroline. She is Stefan's girlfriend after all."
"I'll make sure to keep that in mind. So, are you going?"
"Why wouldn't I?"
"I thought parties weren't your scene."
"They could be, if you come with me." She replied sending him a flirty smile.
"How could I argue with that logic?"
"Fuck yeah. You won't regret it. I promise."
"Why do I have a feeling you're wrong about that?" he teased as she rolled her eyes.
"Just pick me up at 6 asshole."
"It's a date." He smiled making hers grow.
He knew there could never be anything serious between him and Bonnie, but he did have a good time with her regardless. He just had to see what tonight had in store."
