Chapter 2
When Toriel said to stay determined, I soon realized what she meant on my way through the Ruins. The monsters, though very weak and barely willing to attack at all, all were pretty intent on attacking me with their best attacks. The Froggits attacked with flies and by trying to jump on me. The Moldsmalls sprayed jelly at me which actually hurt me when it connected to my skin. The Migosps attacked if they happened to be joined by another monster, but then were completely okay and just did a jig when they were just left alone with me. And as for the Whimsums... well, they just fled the moment I looked at them with a caring smile. They tried, but they were very scared and it was obvious.
But with every monster I befriended successfully, they gave me some money in the form of different gold coins. By the time I got to a particular area, I already had 20 gold... and what was this particular place? The way was blocked by a ghost that laid down on the ground and he looked to be pretending to sleep... I could tell because their eyes were wide open.
"Pardon..." I said, nudging the ghost slightly and seeing I could actually touch him. The ghost then jumped up and looked at me with a sad frown and I smiled at him.
"You need cheering up? Then let me do that," I smirked as I then pulled out an extendable cane from my pocket and I started to tap it against the ground with a smile before then starting my song.
"~Hey! Hello, mister ghost!
My name is Mute
May I please ask who are you?~" I smiled in song, the ghost then actually smiling back as he started to sing along to my tune.
"~You can just call me Napstablook
I was laying here to think of tunes.
But after meeting you, Mute,
I feel like the happiest little spook!~" the ghost said in song, me smiling at that.
"~Sorry, buddy.
Didn't mean to wake you up!
Tori, expects me,
At her place, so please get u-up,~" I smiled in song as Napstablook then sung after that.
"~Tori? Who's she?
I don't remember who...
I was, because
I have become a spo-ok,~" Napstablook sung, me feeling bad at that and simply going to him and hugging him, Napstablook being surprised at that before I heard him chuckling. "Heh... this... feels nice... though I can't really feel it. I'm kind of incorporeal," he said with a smile.
"Well, I'm just glad we could be friends over song," I smiled at him.
"Yeah... me too. I came here to get away from people... but meeting you made my day... alright, I'll get out of your way now, Mute... I'll see you later," Napstablook smiled as he then vanished into thin air and I smiled with a sigh. I then continued forward some more and came across a sign that made me smile. It was for something called a spider bake sale. I decided to give it a shot and saw that the area with the bake sale was filled with tiny little spiders and that they looked to have some treats with spider motifs to them... as well as cider with spiders inside of them.
"Hey there, little guys..." I said with my raspy voice and they all gathered together to greet me in their own way. "How much... for the cider?" I asked, not minding the fact there was a spider in it, since it just meant protein. The spiders then did something I never expected. Sign language! And they said it was 13 g for each one and that the spider donuts were 7 g each. I smirked and paid them 20 g in total happily before then signing to them that I wanted one cider and one donut. The spiders then took the gold and put it into their webs before then carrying the different treats to me with little skitter noises. "Thanks, guys," I signed to them as I then put the stuff in my bag, making sure that the drink was in the side pouch so it wouldn't spill and the cookie was in the regular bag itself. I then went on my way further into the ruins, encountering some more monsters in the process, including some new faces that were basically vegetable monsters called Vegetoids. All I had to do was tell them I was hungry and they'd then ask that I eat a green piece of food from their attack. And once I did that, it not only made me feel better, but I was also able to pacify them afterwards.
I then got a call on my cell phone that Toriel gave me and I answered as I got to a room that had multiple colored switches. "Hello, Mute. How is your progress so far?" she asked into the phone.
"It's going well... I'm in a room with colored switches on the ground," I smiled.
"Impressive! That means you're nearly to my house! I'll wait outside for your arrival. I made a little gift for you before you go out of the Underground," Toriel smiled.
"Thanks, that sounds lovely," I smiled, knowing it had to be the food item relating to cinnamon or butterscotch from earlier. I then proceeded to easily handle the different button combinations as said by the different flyers on the walls. And after getting past this, I came across a froggit that looked at me with a smile.
"Ribbit, congrats, miss Mute. Tori told me to give these to you if ya got this far," the frog monster said as it gave me two things that looked very old, but also looked cute at the same time. One was a toy knife that had a picture of a unicorn on it and the other was a ribbon to go in my hair, but it did have a bit of faded color to it. "These belonged to the second human that fell to the Underground, the owner of the Cyan soul," Froggit said, me being confused at that.
"Cyan soul? So there are other colors besides red like mine?" I asked, since I knew that much just from how my heart/soul was visible during fights with monsters.
"Yeah, Tori could tell you more," Froggit said, me smiling at him happily.
"Thanks," I smiled at him as I then moved to the north and saw two things. First, there was a very large tree that looked like it was dying, since all of its leaves were gone despite it being just early autumn. And second, there was a small bit of dirt by the base with a flower laid on it. It didn't take me too long to realize that it was the grave of Chara. I then went forward and knocked on Toriel's door, her opening it with a smile on her face.
"Ah, you've arrived, Mute. Come in, I have something you'll like," Toriel smiled as she then led me into her house and I saw it actually looked quite comfy on the inside. And there was a set table to the west of us that had three different chairs at it, which made me realize how lonely she really was. And at the table was a pie that looked like it was made of both cinnamon and butterscotch, some hot dogs, and a couple french fries.
"So you know, this pie is very tasty, but more important than that, it will also help you out if you manage to reach Asgore with it still on your person," Toriel explained to me. "If you eat it when you encounter him, he'll know I made it and it will make him lower his guard," Toriel explained.
"I see," I smiled as I then sat at the table and ate the other items while putting the pie in my bag for later... though I did take a small lick of it and smiled at how sweet it tasted. "Tastes sweet," I smiled at Toriel happily.
"Um... just so you know, if ever you decide to change your mind about meeting with Asgore... or if you feel like you may need my help at some point, just call me on your phone and let me know," Toriel said, me smiling at her happily as I then hugged her.
"~Do not worry, Toriel
I just have one thing to tell
If I don't ever come back
Tell Asgore to halt his attack...~" I sung to her as I could feel tears in my eyes and my voice break near the end of the song, Toriel hugging back with tears in her eyes as well.
"Do not worry, young Mute. If that were to happen, I'd stop him myself," Toriel said with a small smile. "Well... the way to get to Asgore is through the basement of this house. You'll need to go through Snowdin, the Waterfall caverns, and Hotland in order to reach Asgore's castle," Toriel said, me smiling at her.
"Okay..." I smiled as I then gave her a small kiss on her furry cheek and I then went on my way through the basement, going for the whole length of it and finding a door on the other side. And after I went through it, I frowned as I saw the flowery bastard once again.
"Clever. Really clever. You think you're hot stuff don't ya?" Flowey asked with a frown, me sticking my tongue out at him at that as I simply tied the ribbon in my hair and held the toy knife in my hand. "So you managed to spare the life of one person, big whoop. If you recall what I said before, in this world, it's kill or be killed. What will happen when you come across a serial murderer? Will you keep trying to fight until you give up and die?" Flowey asked, me frowning at him as I then sung again.
"~You are a jackass
I feel I must ask
Why do you want to kill me?
I just want to leave
But for you it seems
doom is what your eyes see.~" I sung at him with a very deep and angry tune.
"Hmph, don't worry, my plan isn't matricide, singing bitch. My plan is so much more interesting!" Flowey smiled as he then laughed like he did before, the high pitched cackle. I frowned and simply rushed him, the bastard retreating under the dirt and me growling at how he had already vanished.
"I hate him," I frowned as I then looked to the door ahead of me and went through. It was time to go to the town of Snowdin. And with a name like that, I should be grateful that I wore a jacket and long pants for my hiking trip gone awry.
