A/N: Hey, guys! Welcome to this new chapter! In the previous chapter, Rayman faced a large Robo-Pirate army with Clark, and he now knows how to find the third mask. However, Razorbeard knows that he has two masks, and wants him dead. This chapter will cover one of the most dangerous and perhaps the most iconic level of the game: the Precipice, and a mission of the PS2 version. Let's get started, and hope you like it!

Chapter 12: Escape and Mines

(''Rayman 2 Soundtrack- The Precipice'')

With the hot air balloon, Rayman reached a mountainous canyon, and he was faced with a Warship chasing him.

''Rayman, Razorbeard knows you have two masks, and he went wild when he heard the news. He wants you dead, so run away and don't turn around! In the Precipice you must also find seventy Yellow Lums and save six Familiar spirits.'' said Murfy, frightened.

The chase was long and tiring. Rayman had to jump over fragile wooden bridges and cling to nets while avoiding the cannonballs fired from the Warship, which caused the surfaces to collapse, and red missiles, which complicated his escape.

''Polokus was right: pirates are getting serious now.'' thought the hero as he ran away. During the escape, he saved two Familiar spirits and took fifteen Yellow Lums, then deactivated a laser barrier by hitting a switch, allowing him to pass a small fortress.

Saved Familiar spirits: 2/6, total 47/80

Arriving on the other side, Rayman came across a pirate tower floating on the water, and the Warship continued to follow him.

''I have to get out of here, they won't stop until I die.'' thought the hero, who started to climb the tower, but as if being chased by a warship was not enough, the water level began to rise, forcing him to speed up the pace, and after defeating a green pirate, he reached the top and hit a switch, opening a passage that led him to another area of the canyon. During the ascent, he also found twenty Yellow Lums and saved two other Familiar spirits.

Saved Familiar spirits: 4/6, total 49/80

After exiting a cave, Rayman continued to escape from the Warship, but was beginning to show signs of fatigue.

''I can't go on like this for long, I will die!'' he thought, with the anxiety growing more and more in his floating body. The limbless hero, avoiding cannonballs and missiles, found fifteen Yellow Lums and saved a Familiar spirit before dropping, landing in front of a deep precipice. He then took a run and activated the helicopter, finding another fifteen Yellow Lums during the descent, but he had to shoot regularly with his Magic Fist to avoid being hit by the bombs fired by the Warship. After finally landing, he took the last five Yellow Lums and entered a small opening, where he saved the sixth and final Familiar spirit, and breathed heavily: he had finally managed to shake off the Warship.

(''Rayman 2 Soundtrack- The Precipice-s'')

''That was too close.'' said Rayman, tired enough from the chase.

''Yeah, Polokus was right in saying that your mission is now more difficult. A little further on, there's the first generator.'' said Murfy.

(''Rayman 2 Soundtrack-Pirates- Part 3'')

Before Rayman could destroy it, he faced a Ninja Henchman, which caused him a lot of trouble, but after remembering Umber's advice, he defeated him by dropping him into one of the small lava pools in the room, then fired his fully charged Magic Fist twice, destroying the generator beyond the lasers, and deactivating a barrier, freeing the trapped Teensie. The Teensie then created the magic door and the two entered it.

Rayman returned to the Rainbow Creek, where the Grand Minimus was waiting for him.

''Rayman! I saw the Warship chasing you! For a while I thought you were dead!'' he exclaimed, with evident concern on his face.

''I'm fine. I managed to escape and I also destroyed the first generator.'' said Rayman.

''Well done! If you destroy the second generator too, you can advance into the Pirate Factory! The second generator is located in the depths of the Echoing Caves, but you cannot pass.''

''Why?''

''The road is blocked by a laser barrier. It's certainly been done by pirates to hinder you, and only the rain dance of the Globox family can deactivate it, but I haven't seen Globox for a while. Furthermore, the pirates captured the baby Globoxes in the mines(1). Go and save them, quickly!''

Rayman went down the cliff and explored the mine, where he found ten Yellow Lums, then went to the left and took a cart.

The mine cart drove Rayman to a small canyon with oil-polluted water.

''Rayman, in this area you have to find fifteen Yellow Lums and save a Familiar spirit.'' said Murfy. ''If the baby Globoxes have been captured and Globox has disappeared, something is wrong.''

Rayman quickly took all the Yellow Lums and saved the spirit, also using a Purple Lum to go to the other side. Shortly thereafter, hhe heard sobs, and saw a fat, pink figure he recognized.

''Murfy, look! It's Uglette! Let's go and check out what happened!'' exclaimed the hero, and he approached Uglette, who couldn't stop crying.

''My babies... my babies...'' she whined, while the limbless hero approached her.

''Uglette, what's going on? Why are you crying?'' he asked.

''It's horrible... The pirates have captured all my babies!'' said Uglette.

''All of them?!'' Rayman was shocked. Globox and Uglette had 650 babies, but were they really all kidnapped?

''Yes, they all kidnapped them! They imprisoned some of them in the cages and in the four nearby mines, and others on their Prison-ship. My darling Globox tried to stop them ... B-but the pirates have captured him too... And they took him to the Prison-Ship... It happened after he took you to the entrance of the Sanctuary of Stone and Fire, while you weren't there.'' said Uglette, in a voice that sounded as high-pitched as a mouse's because of her emotional pain.

(Flashback)

A large number of baby Globoxes were trapped by pirates, and all were brought on their ships to be forced into forced labor in the mines. Uglette tried to use her rain dance in attempt and save her children, but was overwhelmed and hit by a pirate's hook.

''LEAVE MY FAMILY ALONE, YOU PIECES OF JUNK!'' screamed Globox, who tried to face the pirates. Seeing his children getting captured and his injured wife really pissed him off, and he decided to fight to protect his family. He started hitting pirates with punches, slaps and kicks, and also using the rain dance on them, knocking out fifteen of them, but every time he defeated one, three more appeared, so he was overwhelmed, with about five pirates restraining him.

''Globox!'' shouted Uglette.

''Let go of me, you ugly scoundrels!'' yelled Globox, trying to free himself. But despite his physical strength, it wasn't enough, and he was captured in front of his wife, who soon burst into tears.

''Oh dear. This explains why Globox disappeared.'' said Murfy.

''Globox was very brave, Uglette. He tried to protect all of you.'' said Rayman. He knew that Globox did not like to fight, but he did it anyway to try and protect his wife and children. He began to think of a way to get to the mines and saw a pirate ship. ''Hey, with this ship I could reach the mines! Come on, Uglette, stop crying. I will bring your children back.''' he then consoled her, before boarding.

The hero started moving the ship, while Murfy guided him. Before long, they reached the first mine, the South Mine, and Rayman got off the ship to enter, rescuing eighty of the trapped baby Globoxes, and brought them inside. Under the greenbottle's guide, he also reached the East, North and West Mines, saving all the trapped baby Globoxes. There were a total of about three hundred and twenty, about half of the total, so the rest were still prisoners who knows where.

''Now let's go back to your mother. She's been crying since you got captured.'' said Murfy.

(''Town Theme- Final Fantasy II OST'')

Rayman went back to where he had met Uglette, and saw that she was still sobbing, but not as loudly as before. He started to go ff the ship, followed by one of the children, who called her.

''Mom?'' Upon hearing that voice, Uglette felt a great joy inside her while the boy who called her jumped into her arms.

''My baby!'' she cried out.

''Look, Uglette! The others are here too!'' said Rayman, as the other baby Globoxes reunited with their mother.

''Oh, thank you!'' Uglette cried a tear, but it was a tear of happiness.

Rayman smiled, and told the family to go home with the ship, and one of the little ones caught his attention, giving him a brown mask with black eyes and white accents.

''Rayman, we've decided to give you this rain mask.'' he said.

''With this, you can make it rain like our family.'' concluded Uglette, after the children got on board.

''Thanks, Uglette! See you soon!'' Rayman said.

(''Town Theme- Final Fantasy II OST-s'')

After the others left, the limbless hero destroyed a nearby cage, saving a Teensie, and they returned together to the Stone Circle.

Saved Familiar spirits: 1/1, total 52/80

''Bravo, Rayman! The baby Globoxes you rescued all dream of becoming strong like you! '' said the Grand Minimus, after Rayman returned.

''Thanks, they also gave me a rain mask. Now I can use the rain dance like Globox and his family.'' said the hero.

''Nice! Now you can get rid of the lasers that were blocking you. The Echoing Caves are ahead.''

Rayman went to another area of the mine, where he defeated a red pirate and found two Yellow Lums, then found himself in front of a laser barrier and started dancing while wearing the mask, creating a rain cloud that destroyed the lasers, allowing the limbless hero to advance.

A/N: It seems that Rayman managed to escape, but there is still a generator to destroy. What will he face in the Echoing Caves? And what will await him in the factory? Find out in the next chapters!

(1): In the original versions, the Pirate Mines are the last phase of the Iron Mountains, but in the PS2 version, they became their own section.
