Life as I Knew It
Chapter 4
A cold chill ran through Damon's room the night he planned to escape as he picked his head up from where he had placed it between his knees. He peaked at the window through his dark black lashes and sighed. He hated being hold up in his room, but he knew that tonight would be the night that his life would change for good. He just wished they had some form of plan to go off of before they did this, but he guessed it would be all worth it when they were finally away from the vengeful hands of his father.
A small creak sounded as his mother opened the door carrying Stefan in her arms as she slowly shut the door hoping that it wouldn't make another sound. If they were going to make it out of this alive, they couldn't afford any more small mistakes. Even if it was just a creak in the door.
With a small gesture of her head, Damon quietly grabbed his messenger bag and quietly followed his mother out of the room trying really hard not to make a sound . If they woke his dad up, Damon knew that they for sure would be as good as dead.
Moving as quietly as possible, Damon, Stefan, and their mother, moved to the kitchen where they tried so hard not to make a sound. Unfortunately luck was not on their side as they entered their living room and his father was sitting in one of his favorite chair.
"Well what do we have here?"
"Giuseppe, it's not what it looks like."
"and what is this supposed to look like?"
"It's nothing really. The kids were just restless tonight."
"Then why are their overnight bags packed."
"Giuseppe please."
Before Damon could blink his father walked towards her mother and pinned her to the wall. Stefan whaled as their mother dropped him and her head smashed to the wall. No this couldn't be happening.
"Listen here you stupid bitch, you either tell me what's going on here or I swear I'll break every bone in your body. Now tell me the truth."
Damon's eyes darted around the room as he searched for anything to help his mother out. He couldn't let him hurt her. Not again.
Pinpointing a vase by the wall, Damon grabbed for it throwing it at his father's head and hitting him straight on. His mother took this opportunity to throw her father off of her and grabbed a crying Stefan as she looked at Damon. Fear in those blue eyes of her.
"Mom." he cried out as he noticed his dad starting to come to.
Before Damon could say another word, his mother hoisted his brother into his arms and gave them both a tight hug, but Damon knew that deep down this wasn't a hug of relief but rather a mother hugging both her children for the last time.
"Mom-" Damon whispered as tears started to stream down his face.
"Listen Damon we don't have much time to spare I need you to be a man now and take your brother as far away from here as possible. Take the tickets in you duffel bag and tell the train clerk that your mother Lilly Salvatore sent you. He'll know what to do from there."
"I can't just leave you here mom."
"You must. It's the only way you'll survive."
"But what will happen to you if we leave?"
"That doesn't matter right now. What matters is that you and your brother stay safe. Do you understand me?"
"I can't leave without you."
"You can't leave with me either. Please Damon this is yours and your brothers only chance at survival. Don't waste time take this opportunity and leave this place behind. Have an amazing with amazing adventures. Settle down with a person you love more than anything. and be the man that your father couldn't be. Do it for you. Do it for me. And please let Stefan know how amazing he is too. You two need each other now. Please never lose sight of that"
Tears streamed down Damon's face as he squeezed his mother's hand once more. He couldn't believe that he was really doing this.
"Run." she said with tears in her eyes and for once Damon chose to listen running into the night and wondering if he would ever see his mother again.
