"But why?" An exasperated El asked.
"Because I said so." Hopper replied firmly to his daughter.
"But it's just a movie."
"Yeah a horror movie."
"So what?" El didn't understand the problem Hopper had with her going out with the Party to watch a movie. Like normal teenagers. El was definitely having what Mike called "cabin fever". Hopper had forbid her from leaving the cabin, the exception being the SnowBall. Mike would visit her every day after school and sometimes the other members of the Party would also visit - including that girl, Max. They hadn't spoken a lot since the SnowBall but El tolerated her and was polite to her.
"We watch movies all the time." El pointed out.
Hopper sighed. Leave it to Wheeler and his friends to want to see a horror movie. Mike and Lucas had been talking about it non-stop since it had come out. Something called Day of the Dead. El was right of course, they did watch Old Westerns together. But horror movies were an entirely different things.
"Yes but this particular one I don't think would be the best fit for you to see." Hopper said slowly. Honestly the Chief was worried that such imagery and violence might trigger memories of the lab, the experiments. Even Brenner Hopper thought to himself. The last thing he wanted was his daughter to be experiencing those nightmares again. She was only now starting to live a normal life. Well as normal as can be when your daughter has psychokinetic though Hopper would never admit it, he was glad El had the Wheeler Kid as a boyfriend. It gave her a sense of normalcy.
It might bring back certain...memories." Hopper said, his voice trailing off hoping El would get his meaning.
"Bad memories? About...Papa?" She said.
"Brenner." Hopper corrected. That bastard was many things but a father was not not one of them. What he had done to El still to this day made Hopper's blood boil.I wish I could have killed the bastard when I had the chance, Hopper thought to himself.
El seemed to understand. "Ok. No movie."
"No movie." Hopper repeated before patting her head lightly causing her to smile. God she reminds me of Sara, Hopper thought before there was a knock at the door.
S expected it was Wheeler. He gave Hopper a grin and a quick hello before El took his hand and led him into her bedroom.
Hopper groaned and settled into his chair as the song Can't Fight This Feeling began to play from El's bedroom.
It was going to be a long night.
