Ruby's alarm went off, and she got off her bed, landing in front of Weiss with a soft thump. Weiss, who was standing up from her own bed groaned indignantly from almost getting crushed under her partner's weight.
''Watch out, you dumb- ''
''I can't! I'm too excited! ''
Ruby didn't give Weiss time to ask her why or to reproach her from not being careful, fleeing into the bathroom yelling an excuse Weiss couldn't understand due to her using her semblance.
After all, an excited Ruby was an unstoppable force. Weiss couldn't help but smile fondly when thinking about Ruby's restlessness, however, what she could do was scold herself after doing so.
''Come on, Weiss, you're doing this for this exact same reason. You have to get over this silly, schoolgirl crush. ''
And as Ruby exited the bathroom, wearing a skirt and a cute blouse instead of her normal combat outfit, thought that was impossible.
''W- Where are you going, dressed like that? '' She asked, trying her best to sound like a concerned friend - or an uppity conservative girl, who knows - instead of the drooling mess she felt she had become.
Ruby smiled, twirling her skirt playfully '' I've got a date! Can you imagine? I could get a partner! ''
''But I am your partner! '' Weiss mentally face-palmed.
Ruby giggled and dismissed her with a wave of her hand. Weiss could swear she was seeing a blush on her face as she playfully hid behind wild strands of her hair.
''Romantically, I mean. ''
Weiss coughed, walking towards the bathroom ''Of course, I knew that — '' Before closing the bathroom's door, she gave Ruby a last look ''Just for your information, so do I. I'll be heading out in a few minutes too. For a date. With a potential romantic interest. Just so you know. ''
Ruby held her gaze on Weiss', her smile dropping slowly as tension filled the room.
''Guess who is the best sister in the entire world and is gonna drive her baby sister to her first-ever date? Hint, it's not Winter! '' Their awkwardness was interrupted by Yang loudly announcing her entrance to their shared bedroom.
''Rude. '' Weiss scoffed instantly as if trying to redeem herself from the previous tension filling the room. Of course, she failed, so she immediately fled into the bathroom.
Ruby gave her sister a pointed look, and Yang just shrugged, '' I don't know what's up with her. And I don't really wanna know. Let's- Let's just head out, don't forget your helmet, and remember I'll be picking you up at 8. ''
Ruby rolled her eyes, and nodded, trying to get her mind off her partner.
Once Weiss felt the bedroom's door close, she relaxed.
''Alright, alright. This night will fix this all. ''
-—
Once they arrived and Yang had turned the engine of her bike off, she began to voice her concerns out loud.
''Are you sure you've got everything you need? Enough Lien for a cab if I can't come pick you up? Junior's number if you need someone to bail you out from jail? Pocket knife? ''
Ruby rolled her eyes '' Yes, Yes, though I don't think I'll use it for that, and No, Why would I need a pocket knife? I'm a super-powered teenager going to superhero high school. I can basically use my scroll and call my locker— ''
''Well, yes! But what if you need to slice someone's tendons while waiting for Crescent Rose to arrive? ''
''Then I'll just use my semblance and run away! Not everyone on the Internet is a murderer or a weirdo! ''
''Yes, but what if you meet a foreign person who barely speaks Valean and has a thick accent? What if they misunderstand something you say and- Okay, that's it. I'm staying with you while you're on your date. ''
''I think I'll be okay, mom. I'm a big girl, I can tie my boots on my own now! ''
Yang flinched at Ruby's joke. Ruby picked up on her sister's discomfort and, after freeing herself from her helmet and making sure her hair wasn't a mess, she spoke.
''Okay, Yang— I get it! You're worried, but I need you to understand I can also do things myself. ''
Yang stared the sky, inhaling sharply, before looking down to her. Ruby flinched at Yang's red eyes, relaxing once she realized it was out of inquietude rather than anger.
''I know, but… '' She exhaled loudly '' At least let me walk you to your date, okay? So I can at least do the 'if you hurt my little sister I'll kill you' bit. ''
Yang flashed her a toothy smile, her red eyes giving away she wasn't feeling as confident about the whole situation as she wanted Ruby to think. So she gave in.
''Sure! It's just in front of the CCT, we're supposed to take a stroll around this one park before going to this nice coffee place they suggested! They are so romantic! ''
Ruby sighed dreamily, and Yang relaxed as she saw her sister's bright smile.
''Do you wanna tell me more about them? ''
Ruby did, in fact, want to talk about them. As they walked from the parking lot to the CCT, Ruby told Yang everything she knew about her date. From how they wanted to keep their anonymity, to how they had told her small bits of their life that had made Ruby fall head over heels for her mysterious lover. She knew they liked blueberry ice-cream, that they were attending a combat school, and she had tied loose ends rather quickly, realizing they should be a beacon student. Her mysterious lover had praised her for that deduction, though they hadn't told her their identity.
Yang listened through it all, humming in agreement every once in a while. For a second, she considered that Ruby's date couldn't go wrong.
Then, she saw Weiss standing exactly where Ruby had told her she would meet with her date, and Ruby was far too invested on talking about her plans for her date to actually realize Weiss was just, standing there. The impudence, the audacity, the unmitigated gall!
Weiss, however, immediately noticed Miss Towering-Eyesore Xiao-Long walking towards her. Her eyes widened, and she pointed at her with shock, mouthing an scared You? as Yang kept moving her way.
Yang's head pointed to her side, and Weiss was barely able to pull her eyes away from her teammate's ill-omened red eyes. She was grateful she did—
— because there she stood, Ruby Rose, hair slightly messy from the ride on Yang's bike, and bouncing on the balls of her feet as she spoke to Yang about what Weiss assumed was their date.
''Ruby, ''
'' — and they are probably a knight in shining armor! They know a lot about swords! ''
''Rubes, ''
'' — do you think they'll find me pretty? Because I'm sure they are really, really pretty! ''
''Sis, ''
'' — do you think they are taller than me? That would be nice! ''
Yang coughed, and Weiss grimaced. They had walked all the way until they were in front of her.
'' I do believe I'm taller than you. Though not by much… I hope that isn't an issue. ''
Ruby's eyes were currently on Yang's face, and her mouth had been left open as she had been cut off by Weiss' voice.
Her mouth suddenly felt dry, and her words died before she could even begin to think what she wanted to tell Yang about her mysterious lover.
''And— I guess this is my cue to, you know, leave, I guess— Weiss, you can't mess this up, literally, there is no way for you to do so. ''
Yang took Ruby's helmet from her hands, noticing how she had taken it with her from her bike, as she whistled trying to distract herself from the fact her sister was going on a date with Ice Queen herself.
Weiss posture shifted, her arms wrapping around her midsection and her eyes dashing to the sneaky thumbs-up Yang gave her before leaving.
Weiss' mind was racing.
Her first thought was destiny.
She, Weiss Schnee, daughter of Jacques and Willow Schnee, was destined to be a successful person. Whether it'd be by running the SDC, or as a huntress slaying Grimm to keep the less fortunate safe.
And of course, destiny also meant other things. Like, for example, fate.
She had joined some random social media she had heard Pyrrha talking about. It was anonymous, and let people share their most inner thoughts without fearing being exposed. It didn't took long for Weiss to find someone interesting to speak with on said social media, and only then did she understood what a twist of fate was.
Well— Not exactly then, but back when she had her scroll opened in front of her as she exchanged messages in-between classes with someone she couldn't form a face for.
Except that she actually created a face for her anonymous scroll-pall, as she had dubbed them, and had given them the face she wanted for to be on the other side. And of course destiny had been kind enough to have their paths cross.
And Weiss wanted to share a lot of things, about how she couldn't believe she had fallen in love with her twice, both as her lousy partner, and the person she met on the Internet. And many, many more things.
Ruby was, against all odds, the one to speak first.
''So… Coffee? ''
Weiss stumbled, trying to find the right words to tell Ruby off, that they wouldn't and shouldn't do this, and should instead go back and forget everything that could and did happen tonight.
''Ruby, I— ''
''I took the liberty to do some research on this so-called Drômme Coffee shop… '' Ruby's hand found her way in-between Weiss', and began pulling her towards Vale's midtown '' … And apparently they make cookies to die for, did you know that? ''
Of course she knew. Weiss looked away, giving herself away immediately '' I… Yes, yes I did. ''
''You didn't know it was going to be me, but this date seems to fit like a ring to my likings… '' Ruby tugged Weiss closed to her, and the heiress didn't complain, moving along with her '' Did you, even for a second, hoped it was me? The one you were going on a blind date with, I mean. ''
It was Weiss' turn for her mouth to run dry. Her cheeks flushed, and she clutched Ruby's hand tighter.
''I am not one to lie, so I'd rather skip the question than answer untruthfully. You deserve better than a lie. ''
''You're trying to be vague, but while keeping your cool? Weiss, you're so romantic! ''
While Weiss wanted to tell her that she, of course, was romantic, she decided against it. Actions speak more than words, after all, so Weiss offered her arm for Ruby to hold.
''I planned this date so it could be the best thing you'll ever experience. That is unless you want me to keep taking you out on these escapades. That way you'd enjoy Drômme's cookies as much as you wanted to. ''
Ruby smiled, sliding her arm onto Weiss', resting her head on her partner's shoulder.
''I'd love to. ''
''I'm glad, me too. ''
