Chapter 2

RPOV-

Sitting in my last class, (thankfully) I watched as the time ticked by until I was free from this hell hole. I liked school don't get me wrong; but because my parents and family were beyond smart, I started learning at a young age. By the time I was 1, I was physically 5 and could read at a 7th grade level. My dad is a stickler for education and I fell in love with English from my mom. Every year around Christmas time we would read Wuthering Heights together. It was her favorite book and had since become mine. Dad would roll his eyes as he could hear me reading the book in my mind.

My mom has the power of being a shield where she can project it out like an invisible bubble to protect people; her mind had always been an enigma to dad as he was unable to read her thoughts. I too have moms' power but I have to mentally be aware and focused in order for my shield to work. I had been working on just having it on all the time now that I have been feeling the way I feel about Jake. I can't let my Dad know how I've been feeling because he would tell my mom and then Jake would find out. I'd die if he found out I was developing feelings for him. He'd probably laugh- I know Uncle Emmett would.

*Ring*

As the bell finished ringing, I grabbed my things and began to walk outside while checking my phone to see if Jake had sent a text.

Smiling, I began to walk outside. Hopefully he would really let me drive home today. It's not like I don't know what I'm doing.

Before I make it out of the building, my best friend since 5th grade Rebecca approaches. "Hey Ness, what you got planned this weekend?"

"No clue, probably go hiking with Jake or maybe fishing. I've been asking him to take me fishing for a few weeks. What about you?"

Rebecca holds open the metal doors for both of us and shrugs. "I've got that English paper to finish and some math I need to catch up on but other than that; nothing. I was wondering if you want to come over Sunday for some Netflix and Be Lazy." Laughing I nod and say, "Sounds good to me. Let me check with my parents. I'm not sure if they have anything planned." Rebecca heads to her car and says, "For sure. Just let me know. And tell Carlisle and Esme I said hello."

Rebecca thinks my grandparents Carlisle and Esme are my parents because obviously Bella and Edward don't look old enough to have a 16-year-old teenager when they look like one themselves. I spot Jacob sitting in his car while parked in the loading zone. I slip my backpack into the back seat and walk around to the driver's side. I sit behind the wheel and start to adjust my mirrors. "Hey, your feelings still hurt that I only text you when I'm bored?" Jake smiled "Nah. I'm much too important for you to only text me when you're bored." "Exactly. Now, are we going to the Res or are we going to my house?" "Your house. It's Friday so we can hangout and stay up late. If we go to the Res, you have a curfew." I nodded and started driving home.

"How was school?" Jake asked. "It was school. Nothing interesting, nothing new. Becca was saying something about going over her house Sunday to chill so I might ask Dad if I can go. You know, a house full of hundred-year-old vampires can get kinda boring." Laughing I looked over at Jake. "Sure Ness. You just want to be able to speak freely without Edward listening to your inner thoughts." "That's not true. Well not really, I'm getting better at keeping my shield on and as long as I'm around you, Aunt Alice can't see my future."

We pulled up to my grandparents' house because that's where everyone would undoubtedly be. We all hung out there most of the time. I live there because my parents are always like newlyweds and it's just disgusting. Supersonic hearing is something I inherited from my dad. Uncle Emmett made fun of mom and dad for a long time after I asked my grandparents if I could move into my dads' old room.

Walking in I caught a football coming right for my face. I laughed and threw it back at Uncle Emmett. "Nice try butthead". Uncle Emmett laughed, "Damn good catch baby girl. Just making sure the half human side isn't taking over." Aunt Rose slapped him on the back of his head and rolled her eyes. "Hi Ness how was school?" "It was good. Where's mom and dad?"

Jake walked to the kitchen probably on his way to make a sandwich. "They went hunting. They'll be back later today or in the morning." "Oh. Okay what did you do today Hulk Smash?" Uncle Emmett loves when I call him that. "Not much, hunted in the area cuz it was your parent's turn to go far and we wanted to make sure someone was home when you got back from school." "You know, I can watch myself for a bit. I'm almost 17."

"We know you can Ness. We just want to make sure everything is okay." Aunt Rose said while watching Jacob scarf down two sandwiches. Jacob rolled his eyes and threw himself on the couch. "I'm here too Blondie- I'm capable of watching her." Aunt Rose sneered at Jake "Feet off the couch dog or I'll put you in a kennel." Jake laughed, blew her a kiss and said, "That sounds kinky". Uncle Emmett smiled and started rubbing Aunt Roses' shoulders, "Come on love, let's go outside." As they walked out, I turned to Jacob.

"You don't have to be so rude to Aunt Rose." "Oh, I know. I just like to piss her off. She knows she's got a soft spot in my wolf heart." "Whatever. What do you wanna do? Watch a movie, play pool, videogames, or do you just want to eat?" "Let's just start watching Tiger King on Netflix. Paul said it's really good and you can work on homework while we watch so you won't have to do it the rest of the weekend." Sighing, I grabbed my backpack and started to pull my homework out. I actually had a lot to do so I guess Jake was right. "Oh shit. Text your parents. I told them you'd text them when you got home." I pulled out my cell and shot them a text while Jacob put on the show.

Hey guys. I'm home.

Hi sweetheart. How was school? -B

Good. Becca wants me to go over Sunday and hang out at her house. Is that okay?

Sure. What are you and Jacob doing? -E

He's making me do homework while we watch Tiger King. I'll have dinner later but I think it's just going to be a movie night.

Okay. Just make sure you eat and don't let him eat everything! -E

Lol okay I won't. Are Alice and Jasper with you guys?

Yes. They came too. Esme and Carlisle are in Alaska with the Denali's and they'll be back on Thursday. -B

Oh. Nice. I'll text Gma later or facetime her. When will you guys be back? No rush.

Late tonight or early tomorrow morning. The bears are just coming out of hibernation and it's fun wrestling with them for a bit. -E

Dad, don't play with your food. Be careful. I'll see you guys later. Love you

Love you too honey. Don't stay up too late. -B

I love you too sweetheart. Be good and tell your Uncle that you have to sleep so he can take you hunting tomorrow. -E

"Sweet. Dad said Uncle Emmett is taking me hunting tomorrow." He always lets me catch my own food. Mom and Dad still at least disable the animal for me. I'm strong and can survive on human food and blood; but the half human side of me can still get injured. At least Uncle Emmett lets me be a little more vampire than human when he takes me.

"Cool. I'll be ready. We can race. You ready to start the show?" Jake asks while laying on the chase. "Yup." Jake starts Tiger King and we settle into a calmness watching the show, laughing and talking about it while I do homework.
