Lucky To Have A Mom Like You
Roller Brawl smiled as she kissed her husband. "Mother's Day is tomorrow and best of all, we're expecting twins," she said.
Blaze smiled and placed a hand gently on her stomach, feeling the babies kick his hand. "Six little sparks," he said in awe. "I've got to be the luckiest father in the world."
"And me the luckiest mother," she said, smiling again.
Astrid, who was nearby and listening, grew curious about Mother's Day. Flare explained to her that Mother's Day was a day about mothers and giving a gift to them to show how much they were appreciated. Viola was coloring a picture for Roller Brawl while Flare was making a flower from clay to paint later on. Azula was napping nearby, but Flare had gotten some clay and carefully got her youngest sister's handprint in the clay to paint as a plaque, that way the youngest member of the family could give a gift to their mother.
Astrid wasn't sure what to give her mother as it was the first Mother's Day she was going to have with her new mother, but she instantly knew she wanted it to be special. Still thinking, she went outside to think, walking down the path instinctively. Blaze saw her head out, but then saw some of the Skylanders nearby and nodded, knowing his daughter would be fine, but he did wonder what she seemed so deep in thought about.
Nearby, Rachel was training with Hood Sickle, her wooden scythe clashing with his own as she held her ground, setting her teeth and bracing herself. Her Sensei partner chuckled as he saw this. "You've gotten better," he said. "And your defenses are stronger, except for one thing."
"What's that?" She asked curiously.
He smirked and suddenly let go of his scythe, making it fall harmlessly to the ground and Rachel yelped in surprise as the force she was pushing against was suddenly gone, but purple-clad arms caught her quickly and threw her gently over Hood Sickle's shoulder. She landed with a grunt before realizing he had just tricked her and she let out a good-natured groan. "Should have seen that coming," she said ruefully.
Her partner chuckled before poking her side playfully, making her squeak and giggle. "Hood! Stohohop!" She giggled out, squirming around on his shoulder, but he had a good grip on her.
"Hmm," he hummed for a moment before shaking his head. "Nah. This is too much fun."
The Tech Portal Master giggled and laughed as the mischievous Dark Sentinel Sensei continued tickling her, their merriment catching Astrid's attention and she went over to them, cocking her head curiously as she saw her aunt trying to escape the Sentinel, but she seemed to be having fun too. "Aunty Rachel?" She asked curiously.
Hearing the young voice, Hood Sickle stopped the tickle torture and turned to find the child beside him. "Ah, you must be Astrid," he said, his voice warm and friendly. "Your father was telling me about you the other day."
Rachel smiled as she had recognized the child's voice. "Hey, sweetie," she said.
"Aunty Rachel, what's going on?" She asked, puzzled. "Why does this big person have you trapped?"
The Tech Portal Master chuckled. "This is Hood Sickle, honey," she said. "He's one of my partners and we were sparring when he caught me off guard."
Chuckling, Hood Sickle gently set the young woman down on her feet. "Thanks, Hood," she said. "Pretty sneaky, though, dropping your scythe like that."
He chuckled again. "It's a good way to surprise your opponent," he said.
Astrid giggled, seeing the Sensei had a point before she looked at her aunt. "Aunty Rachel, could you help me with something?" She asked.
"Of course, honey," the young woman said instantly.
Hood Sickle chuckled. "It's a good time to take a break," he said as he sat down. "You give me a workout, Rachel."
"Good to know I can keep up," she said with a chuckle before looking at Astrid, who looked earnest.
"Um, I want to give Mommy a special present, but I don't know what," she said.
Realization dawned on Rachel. "Ah, that's right," she said. "It's your first Mother's Day with having a new mom."
Astrid nodded. "Flare said we'll give Mommy gifts to show her how much we love her, but...I don't know what to give her," she said. "But I want it to be really special."
"Hmm," the blonde-haired woman hummed thoughtfully, thinking before an idea hit her. "Hey, why don't we go talk to Master Eon?" She said. "Maybe he might have an idea of what you can give your mother."
The little girl perked up and moments later, she and her aunt entered the room that was just outside of Master Eon's office. Hugo was busy at work, but stopped to greet them. "Hello, Tech Portal Master," he said before seeing the child. "Who's this?"
"This is Astrid, Blaze and Roller Brawl's daughter," Rachel said. "Astrid, this is Hugo. He's Master Eon's right-hand Mabu."
Hugo blushed a little. "Master Eon's in a meeting right now, but he should be done soon," he said.
Just then, the doors opened and Master Eon came out, followed by a robot in gleaming gold armor. Rachel blinked in surprise before her jaw dropped. Astrid grew a bit afraid and hid behind her aunt, looking unsurely up at the giant robot that towered a good few feet over Rachel. The robot turned to them.
"Ah, the Tech Portal Master," he said with a chuckle, noting her shocked face. "Forgive me for startling you."
Rachel's brain somehow started working again. "Are you...the Warrior Librarian Chief Curator?" She asked, having only heard about him a few times from Flameslinger.
He chuckled again. "Yes, I am," he said before seeing the child behind her and noting the young one looked afraid. "One moment."
A small compartment opened up in front of the robot and a small worm came out, smiling gently. Rachel, realizing why he did that, turned to Astrid and gently picked up the little one. "It's okay, Astrid," she said softly. "He's a good guy."
The child looked a bit nervous, to which Wiggleworth chuckled. "The armor is for defending the archives and for handling books as some of them are a bit bigger than me," he explained. "And you must be the little one that Roller Brawl and the Fire/Undead/Water Portal Master adopted. I've heard much about you from Master Eon."
The child relaxed a bit, making Rachel smile. Master Eon chuckled. "What can I do for you two?" He asked.
Rachel smiled again. "Astrid was hoping to ask you something," she said.
Astrid took a deep breath. "I was hoping you would know of something I could give my mommy," she said. "Something really special."
The guardian of Skylands fell into thought before looking at Wiggleworth. "Wiggleworth, does the enchanted garden still grow special flowers?" He asked.
The Warrior Librarian nodded. "Oh, yes," he said. "The rainbow roses are their pride and joy."
Rachel blinked. "Rainbow roses?" She asked curiously.
He nodded. "A rose where each row of petals is a color of the rainbow," he explained, pulling up a holographic image of the flower.
Astrid gasped in surprise. "It's pretty," she said.
Wiggleworth smiled. "It never wilts," he said. "Would you like to give your mother one of these, young one?"
She nodded before looking curious. "But...where is the enchanted garden?" She asked.
"I'm curious about that too," Rachel said. "I don't think I've ever been there."
Master Eon chuckled. "It's a special place that only I or Wiggleworth can take you to," he said. "But only a Portal Master or Warrior Librarian can enter there and only with a dragon partner."
Astrid looked down. "Oh," she said softly.
But Rachel perked up. "Wait, a Portal Master with a dragon partner?" She asked. "Does that mean I could take Astrid there if Blades was with me?"
"You could," Wiggleworth said.
"Who's Blades?" Astrid asked.
"My dragon partner," Rachel said with a smile.
Master Eon closed his eyes for a moment before opening them and smiling. "He'll be here in a moment," he said.
No sooner had he said that, Blades came in. "Hey, Rach!" He said with a smile.
"Hey, Blades," she said, smiling too.
"Master Eon said you and the little one want to go to the enchanted garden," he said. "I've been there a few times. It's quite a place."
Astrid was amazed to meet a dragon like Blades, who smiled at her, making her smile back. "Will you go with us? Please?" She asked, giving him puppy eyes.
He chuckled. "You bet," he said.
Master Eon chuckled and raised his staff. "See you soon, you three," he said, teleporting them to the enchanted garden entrance. A couple Mabu were there and opened the gate, letting the three in.
The garden was amazing! All kinds of flowers of every color grew there and there was something like fairy dust in the air. "Wow, my sister would love this place," Rachel said softly.
Blades chuckled. "It is quite a place," he said.
A female Mabu greeted them. "What can I do for you?" She asked.
Rachel looked at Astrid and smiled, setting her down and gently urging her forward. Taking that as encouragement from her aunt, the little girl took a deep breath. "Mister Wiggleworth told us about a rainbow rose," she said. "I...I was hoping you might have one for me to give to my mommy. It's for Mother's Day."
The female Mabu smiled. "I certainly do," she said, motioning them to follow her. Inside a special shed, she showed them the rainbow roses.
Astrid was awed, as was Rachel. "Wow," the little girl said.
"I second that," the young woman said.
The female Mabu smiled and handed one to the young girl. "It's sweet that you want to give your mother a special gift," she said.
"Thank you," the young girl said before remembering something. "How much do we owe you?"
The Mabu smiled. "No charge," she said. "Because it gives me pride to see that someone wants to give a rainbow rose to the person that is special to them."
Astrid smiled, as did Rachel, who moved to the side while the Mabu wasn't looking and placed a small sack of gold coins behind a flowerpot as the young girl thanked the Mabu and Blades let Master Eon know they were ready to head back. "Thank you," Rachel said to the Mabu.
"My pleasure," she said.
When they left, the female Mabu found the gold and a note.
Thank you for being so kind to my niece. You made her day.
The Mabu smiled, humming as she continued working.
Back at the Academy, Astrid thanked Wiggleworth and Master Eon for helping her. "I just know Mommy is going to love this," she said.
"Especially as it's coming from you, my dear," said Wiggleworth with a smile.
The next morning, Blaze was up and making breakfast for his wife to bring to her while she was in bed. Flare came out with Astrid and Viola beside her and Azula crawled in behind them. "Morning, Daddy," the three older girls said.
He smiled as he looked at them. "There's my four little sparks," he said. "You girls ready to give Mommy her gifts?"
"Yeah," Astrid said with a smile.
Chuckling, Blaze got the breakfast together on a tray and led the four to the master bedroom where Roller was just waking up, having smelled the food. "What smells so good?" She asked, rubbing her eyes.
"Breakfast in bed," said Blaze. "Happy Mother's Day, my love."
"Happy Mother's Day, Mommy!" Three voices chorused as another voice giggled.
Roller Brawl smiled as her daughters were soon on the bed beside her and her husband. "My, what a thoughtful suprise," she said.
"There's more, Mommy," Flare said, handing her the flower she had made and it was painted pink. "That's from me and this one's from Azula."
She held up the handprint plaque that was also colored pink and had Azula's name painted in white. Viola handed her mother the colored picture of a sun shining in a blue sky with flowers in a field. Granted, some of the color had gone outside the lines, but Roller Brawl loved it all the same because it was from her daughter.
Astrid then came up. "Happy Mother's Day, Mommy," she said, giving her to rainbow rose.
Roller Brawl gasped. "A rainbow rose," she said in awe. "I've only heard of these."
"Aunty Rachel and Blades helped me to get it after Mister Wiggleworth and Master Eon told us about the enchanted garden," the little girl said. "I wanted to give you something special because you're the best mommy ever and I'm lucky to have a mommy like you."
The Undead skater had tears in her eyes as she hugged her daughter. "And I'm lucky to have four wonderful daughters," she said.
Astrid smiled and hugged her mother as Flare, Viola, and Azula joined the hug. Blaze joined in too, feeling blessed to have such a wonderful family.
