Hey Everyone I figured I'd give Steven Universe a try. I recently got into the show and found I was curious how it would go if Steven and Connie Permanently Fused. I tried finding stories and the ones I did find were either to short or were kinda bad. I thought it could be fun to try my hand at writing this one so with out further a due, Enjoy
Greg has just finished telling the story of how he had learned of fusion and it left Steven and Connie looking confused and deep in thought. Fusing for them felt so right. Like it was what they were meant to be. Would it be so wrong for them to try fusing longer than normal? Steven and Connie looked at each other as if asking if the other was thinking of it too. Almost in sync the pair stood up and slowly reached for each other and started dancing together. Ending with Connie dipping Steven as the pink light engulfed the two of them. When the light faded the fusion Stevonnie remained in their place. Her smile, bright as the sun, gave a clear indication of how happy she was.
"So you're the fusion of Steven and Connie huh?" The voice had come from Greg who was sitting in the back on his van with his head tilted to the side. "I gotta say I was not expecting to see a gem ever fuse with a human. Especially my son of all people."
At those words Stevonnie had looked hurt. "You mean… You don't like the idea of me existing instead?" They were so sure that he would have understood but in the end it appeared to have come across the wrong way.
"No no. Not at all. Being surprised isn't a bad thing. Just because I wasn't expecting the two of you to fuse doesn't mean I think it's bad. I just don't understand how it's possible. I get the gems think it's because Steven is half human, but I've been hanging around them for a very long time and I still don't fully understand how fusion works. Throwing in the idea that Steven can fuse with human beings is just throwing me for a loop is all." Greg patted the spot beside him in the van which Stevonnie took.
"Being me just feels so right for them… If I had to describe it… to them, being separated feels like we're the only people alive now after our first few times fusing. Steven and Connie have an empty place in themselves that is only filled with the other during fusing. They asked Garnet about it and she only smiled and said it would all sort itself out in time. She asked them if when they're me if it ever felt like they are two people or one and while the first time I was me I could still feel them now that they have been fused as many times as they have… I don't feel their presence. I don't feel like I'm multiple people making up one person… I feel like I'm me and nobody else is controlling me… Garnet said that they have become so in sync when fused that they no longer but heads in there. Two minds one, consciousness she said."
As Stevonnie was explaining what was going on Greg could only think of one question. "How many times has it been? How often do you two fuse?" He turned to face the fusion as he asked this question sitting up slightly.
"Um if I don't count that 3 second accident this is maybe the 20th? Maybe more? The three of us don't really keep track of it anymore. We never saw the point in remembering the number. The three of us all agree though that this form is our favourite." Stevonnie scratched their head as they answered the reality of just how often they fuse setting in. "Do… Do we have a problem? No!... no it's not a problem. What is so bad about us being like this? Pearl said that fusing is only for emergencies though. And garnet is a permanent fusion… We… I need to talk to garnet." Greg could see the inner turmoil going on in Stevonnie's head as Steven and Connie fell out of sync for a few seconds before finally regaining proper control. "I'll talk to you later Da… Mr. Univ… uh… I don't know what to call you now."
"Dad is still fine" Greg gave the fusion a kind smile as they took off towards Steven's home.
Once there they saw Garnet sitting on the couch as if she was waiting. "Alright you're here come with me." Garnet said simply standing up and leading Stevonnie away to the door to the temple. Garnet's room opened and She sat on the floor as Stevonnie sat across from her facing Garnet. "It's becoming harder to stay apart isn't it? How often do you fuse? The more two gems.. Or in this case Steven and Connie, fuse the stronger their bond becomes. The stronger the Fusion becomes. The two of you are beginning to reach a point where it will begin to affect your mental state unfused. Tell me, how do Steven and Connie feel about each other after having fused so many times. You aren't them so as a result you can realize what they feel for each other without compromising them.
Stevonnie just sat there thinking of how to say what she could. "Well to Steven, Connie is for lack of a better word perfect. He sees her as this beautiful smart and kind person he can't wait to see each day." Garnet simply nods. "For Connie, Steven is her safe space. The one person in the universe she truly feels safe around. For the two of them, being a part from the other is torture, not because they aren't fused but because being away from the other hurts. When together the two feel safe, protected and like no matter what obstacle they come across they can beat it simply by being together. When it comes to fusion however it feels like the two are puzzle pieces. Half of a picture that is missing part of the picture… or… Or like a tree and the leaves. A leaf on its own is unable to survive… it has no purpose. A tree on its own can't survive either and needs the leaves to fulfill its purpose. But when you put the two together they flow so perfectly together." Stevonnie began to blush a bright red at having told Garnet everything that the two people that make her felt. They may be a combination of the two but that doesn't mean everything is shared. This is one of those things that remained hidden from the other half. "Although… It almost feels like there is more there however… it feels locked away. Like I can see two doors but they are locked tightly."
Garnet just nods. "Good now please unfuse. You are a powerful relationship but for it to get to the point I know it can we need Connie and Steven to talk." Stevonnie nodded as they began to glow pink. Once the glow was gone, all that's left is Connie still holding Steven in a dip before the two of them turn bright red and almost jumping away from the other. "Alright you two sit down. We've heard Stevonnie explaining it in their own way but now it's your turn. Fusion is a powerful way to form bonds and relationships. There's a reason why Pearl says it should only be used for emergencies. Fusion when done right merges the minds of the two participants together. That's all well and good but too many times in quick succession like you two have and you gain a consequence you may have never imagined. You become closer to the person with each fusion. If two gems were to just meet, fuse every day for 8 hours a day for 2 weeks they would develop a relationship that would have taken two years. Fusion is a way gems create relationships. Normally it doesn't affect us because of how sparingly we use it and how long our lifespans are. However you are human and in the time that you two have had your first fusion till now you've fused… what? 20-30 times? I know you two do it in private because of Pearls reaction but if you two are to continue to fuse so consistently you must be made aware of what will happen if you continue to do so."
The two teenagers simply tilted their heads confused. "Because of Stevonnie bringing your feelings to the surface I take it you two are now aware of how the other feels even if it's an idea." Steven and Connie nod softly, quickly glance at each other, blush and look away. Everything was out in the open now. "I expect a conversation from the two of you to happen when I let you go. If you continue to fuse like you have for stuff like watching tv or even just napping you may find yourself reaching the point of not wanting to come undone and stay as a permanent fusion like me. If you choose to stay fused I will support you just like Ruby and Sapphire but I think it is a good idea to let you know of what could happen if you do." With that Garnet stood up and left the room leaving the two teens sitting there, embarrassed and blushing like crazy.
"So…" Connie started slowly. "You think I'm beautiful?" Steven let out a quick nod his face turning a bright shade of crimson. "Well umm I think you're…" Connie found she couldn't finish the thought before her face turned even brighter than before.
Steven found himself moving so instead of facing her he was sitting right beside her and gently took her hand in his "No more secrets about how we feel about each other?" She smiled softly as she asked this question.
Steven smiled and stood up offering his hand "No more secrets. May I have this dance?" The smile on Connie's face widdens slightly as she takes Steven's hand and stands up placing her hand on Steven's shoulder as he places his on her waist. Once their hands take their places Steven pulls Connie close allowing her to rest her head on Steven's shoulder.
As they dance together Steven's gem begins to glow, the light covers the two and when it fades Stevonnie is left in their place. As they step out of the room Garnet is seen on the couch, Amethyst digging around in the fridge and Pearl grumbling as she tries to clean up the mess being made by Amethyst. Scratching their arm, Stevonnie walks over and sits beside Garnet catching the eye of Pearl and Amethyst who just watch wide eyed. "We… We wanna give this a proper try and see how long I can stay together before I fall back a part"
Garnet gives a smile "I know. In timelines where you sit beside me Steven and Connie give staying fused together a try" This sentence causes Stevonnie to swallow hard and Pearl's jaw to drop.
"Do we make it? What happens if we don't make it staying fused" the question has a hint of fear hidden behind it. As this conversation happens Pearl slowly makes her way over.
"There are three possible outcomes to you giving this a try. The first one is you feel more comfortable fused and become a permanent fusion like me. The second is while you stay fused for a while you struggle to hold it together and work to better your relationship so that you can be a better fusion. The third you feel it is best for combat situations only and proceed down a path where you each live a life with the other. No matter how this goes, the two of you stay in each other's lives." Stevonnie gives a slow nod smiling knowing that no matter what happened Steven and Connie would stay close.
"Umm Garnet?" The voice of Pearl can be heard. "Don't you think it's a little… inappropriate for them to fuse this much and this long? They're children." As Pearl says this she glances over at Stevonnie clearly uncomfortable with Steven being fused with a human, Connie or otherwise.
"This is Earth Pearl. We fought for the right for them to fuse if they wish. Give them a chance." Garnet gives Pearl a look that promises a swift end if she dare argue.
"Alright Garnet I trust you but this will not end well." With that final comment Pearl turns around and heads for the door to her room leaving the group behind.
Well that was the first Chapter. Let me know what you think and if I should continue to work on this. I really wanna read more about permafusion and I hate that there is so little stories about it. Anyways I'll see you all next time. Peace
