A.N: Hello, this is my first ever story. I just want to say that English is not my first language so there might be a few errors. I hope you guys could still enjoy it nonetheless. Also, I might be slow on updates, however, I do have a few chapters lined up.
alright bye...
It was late into the night, long after bedtime, somehow he couldn't get himself to go to sleep. He keeps thinking about all the things that happened in the past month as he didn't have the time to let it all sink in. He stared at the ceiling that could only be visible because of the moonlight that is illuminating the entire room. Sabo turned in his bunk bed to stare at his and his brothers' room. How did he go from being an orphan (those people were not his parents) to having a big family?
How did he join the whitebeard pirates?
He shifted himself to stare at the lower bunk bed where Ace was sleeping. Ace was softly snoring, his messy curls fell loosely on his face, his blanket was barely hanging on his body; it was a sight that made Sabo smile.
'How did these people become my family?'
Sabo would've never thought he would find people that he would call 'brother', let alone someone to call 'father', it completely ruined Sabo's plans. He thought he would gather enough money to buy a small ship, train hard to become stronger, and eventually set sail to become a pirate. However, since he found Luffy and Ace in the forest all of his plans got thrown away. It got completely thrown away when Ace and Luffy introduced him to their family. Sabo thought they just had a big family, he didn't think their family was one of, if not the strongest, pirate crew in the world.
The thought of it made Sabo laugh.
Sabo's brain immediately thought back to that moment when his foster father found him, the gun that he aimed at them. He had known Marco for a while back then, but he's never seen him so angry, so bloodthirsty; Marco looked like he was ready to snap everyone's neck and get all three of them out of there.
Sabo's brain also remembered the pain.
Sabo's never felt a stronger pain than that bullet in his shoulder, maybe it hurt more because it was shot by his father. He also remembered the morning after, waking up in the infirmary, Ace and Luffy both asleep by his side, Marco who was sitting next to him working on his paperwork; their warm smiles when they realized he woke up, the party afterward, the fact that Oya-Whitebeard had practically kidnapped him and set sail while he was asleep. It all made him so happy, and yet he still feels hesitant.
Unlike Ace and Luffy who lived on the ship for almost all of their lives, Sabo feels like he can't open up yet; He feels as if he can't trust them fully yet. God knows he's trying, he's trying so hard, and yet he still can't open up to them.
At least to the adults, Luffy and Ace are another story.
Sabo clicked with them from the first moment he met them. A stupid bear tried to attack him when Ace and Luffy came to the rescue and together they defeated the bear.
A smile broke on his face when he thought of the adventures the three of them had in the jungle, although short but they are memories that Sabo will cherish forever.
Sabo sat in the dark thinking for a while before he decided to come out on the deck and watch the stars. A sight that Sabo has yet to get bored of.
He carefully lowered himself to the ground, making sure he didn't wake Ace in the process, before slipping on a jacket and heading out.
Once on deck, Sabo immediately relaxed. The sky was extra beautiful today, even though he says that every day, the ocean twinkled in the moonlight which made the scenery even more amazing. After Sabo settled on the railing, he sighed and leaned back.
'this must be freedom' he thought
"Couldn't sleep yoi?" Sabo got so startled that he almost fell off the railing, which was stopped by Marco when he put his arm around his torso and helped him balance again. He thanked Marco before replying,
"Nope, what about you? Why are you still up?"
" Hmm, I guess I've had a few things to think about, the peace is a plus," Marco settled his elbows on the railing before continuing to look at the view in front of them.
Sabo nodded before turning his head to look back at the scenery, silence took over them for a while, it wasn't uncomfortable, the opposite really, it felt nice to have some company.
Peace and quiet are not something you can get often on this ship. It's a big ship with a lot of passengers so it's never really ever quiet; however, Sabo assumed that this is as quiet as the ship can get. Sabo then started thinking about the crew, their loud shenanigans, and their kindness. Despite the fact he's been hesitant about staying on the ship, everyone has been so kind and understanding. No matter what kind of question he has whether it being about sailing or Grande Line, the crew answered his every question with no judgment no matter how stupid his questions are.
"Do you guys usually adopt kids?" Sabo finally broke the silence. Marco turned from the ocean to look at him, a soft smile appeared on his face before he shrugged,
"Not really yoi, I mean we did have other kids on board before, but…. I guess you guys are different."
Sabo thought back to when he asked Ace and Luffy about how they ended up on the ship, they both told him outlines of it but never the full story. Whenever Sabo asked them for the full story, they both grinned and simply said
"Ask Marco, he tells it best!"
Sabo was tempted to ask, Marco usually was the one to answer his questions, he would tell him all about it without making him feel a slight bit stupid. However, after all this time, he still couldn't open up to them at least not yet, so instead, he turned his head back to the ocean.
He doesn't want to annoy him after all.
Sabo felt Marco's eyes on him but instead, he pretended he couldn't feel them, simply staring at the sky. After a few seconds, he heard a soft sigh, when he turned his head towards Marco he was stretching and looked ready to go.
"Let's go yoi," Sabo looked at Marco in confusion, but all that Marco did was chuckle and tell him to follow him again.
Sabo followed Marco too which looked like it was headed back to their room before Sabo could ask Marco explained,
"We have a tradition yoi. When someone can't sleep we wake everyone up. Well, the boys and Thatch. Thatch will make some hot cocoa that weirdly enough makes you get sleepy no matter how wide awake you are."
By the time Marco finished explaining they had gotten to the boys' room, Marco flung the door open before he woke both boys up, which they surprisingly did not mind before they headed to Thatch room to wake him up.
"Thatch yoi, get up," Marco very violently shook Thatch awake, which earned him a few curses and bird-pineapple nicknames.
A few minutes later they all sat in the kitchen munching on cookies while Thatch made them the famous hot cocoa which he called 'the chocolate sleep potion'. They all sat there listening to Luffy's crazy dream that they all could barely understand anything from.
One sip of the 'chocolate sleeping potion', and Sabo felt himself relaxing, warmth spread through his body, and his tense muscles relaxing. Sabo felt a pair of eyes on him, he looked up to find Thatch intensely staring at him.
"It's so good, thank you, Thatch," As if Sabo gave him a gift Thatch started flailing around the kitchen happily while mumbling 'he likes it'.
After a few more stories, Marco and Thatch started making fun of each other, which all three boys watched while laughing. Sabo leaned against the counter and watched them with a soft smile on his face.
How did this become his home?
