"Get your shit together Jasper!" Garnet yells at her, fury darkening her vision.

"No."

"Then get the fuck out and don't come back. I mean it Jasper. I've been patient enough with you, but I can't no more." Garnet pushes against Jasper's chest.

"Stop pushing me Garn." Jasper warns, the words coming out through gritted teeth.

"Then stop being a fucking dick. I get it, you've been through something tragic, we all have but that's no reason to be a dick about it, especially to me." Garnet pushes Jasper's chest again.

Jasper grips Garnet's wrist in one hand before slamming Garnet's back against the wall, her arms stretched above her. "I. Said. Stop."

"Or what? You won't hit me. This is the most aggressive you've been, you wouldn't dare hit me." Garnet's shades are missing, the fury in her mismatched eyes challenging Jasper.

Jasper growls before pushing away from Garnet. "Why the fuck do you always do this?"

Garnet's eyes widened and her mouth slacked open in disbelief. "Me?" Garnet laughed as she pushed off the wall. "Oh, that's rich coming from you. You come home every night literally wasted off your ass and if you're not drunk, you're high as fuck. Every night coming in and arguing with me. Trying to control me, what I wear, who I see and all this other bullshit!"

Jasper squints her eyes in frustration, her fists clenching and unclenching by her sides. "Because I can."

"No the fuck you can't! I told you that shit before we got together. I am my own fucking person; I can do what the fuck I want, wear what the fuck I wanna wear and see who I want to see."

"You're also MY girlfriend!"

"Of MY own free will Jasper. Did you forget that shit? I told you I wasn't with none of the controlling shit. I fucking told you."

"So?"

Garnet's brows and eyes furrowed in anger. "Get out Jasper. Now!" Garnet's arm snapped out, pointing to the front door.

"Or what?"

Garnet a nostrils flare, her tone dripping and dropped with barely restrained anger, her one fist clenched at her side. "Get. Out. Or. I. Swear."

"You'll do wha-." Before Jasper can finish, Garnet's fist connected with the underside of her jaw, her vision going black.

Jasper's eyes shot open as she shot up in the bed, her breathing irregular and fast.

Beside her Garnet mumbles, "Go back to sleep."

Jasper glances down at Garnet. She knocked me the fuck out. Jasper frowns as her eyes locked on the clock: 4:36 am.

Jasper lays back down but sleep wasn't easy this time. Once again she tosses and turns until Garnet stops her with a leg over hers and her head on her shoulder.

"What is it?" Garnet doesn't open her eyes as she asks.

"You knocked me out."

"Mmm, you deserved it."

Jasper glances down at Garnet, a frown covering her face. "You've never hit me."

"Let's pray was the only time."

Jasper says nothing, just takes in feel of Garnet's skin against her own. "I was a horrible girlfriend to you."

"You weren't all bad. Just when you were drunk, high or controlling."

"I'm sorry about that Garn., I truly am." Jasper tilts her head at an awkward angle to place a kiss on Garnet's head.

Garnet takes a sharp intake of air. "Thank you Jasper."

Jasper sighs and pulls Garnet closer. After a pregnant moment of silence, Jasper speaks. "Hey Garn?"

"Yes Jasp?"

"Marry me."

Jasper felt Garnet snap her eyes open, her lashes tickling her skin as they opened. "Go back to sleep."

Jasper frowns. "I'm serious. Marry me Garnet."

Garnet pulls back to look at Jasper, her eyes scanning Jasper's face for any signs of falsity. "No."

Jasper's eyes widened with shock before it disappeared. "Why?"

"I said earlier I was scared. Opposites attract and all Jasper, but what's to stop it from happening all over again?"

"Me. You. Us." Jasper sighs. "I get it. I wasn't exactly a good girlfriend; I did and said things that I regret. It took me getting into another relationship for me to realize that after all these years, the only person I needed and wanted the most was always here. You were always here. You don't have to worry about me not wanting you. I am in love with you Garnet and it's never going to change."

Garnet doesn't speak as she just stares at Jasper. Does she mean it?

Jasper could see the hesitation in Garnet's eyes. "It's okay if you're not ready. I'm prepared to wait. I'm not going anywhere, not again."

Garnet swallows and untangles herself from Jasper. "I can't." Jasper reaches for Garnet's wrist but the latter pulls away and sits up. "Don't."

"Give me a year, and I'll prove to you that I'm serious about marrying you and making us work."

Garnet shakes her head. "Why? Why now?"

Jasper blinked in surprise at Garnet's reluctance and sits up. "Because I'm in love with you Garnet and I know you are still in love with me."

Garnet locks eyes with Jasper. "Just because we're in love doesn't mean we belong together."

"Give me the year."

Garnet sighed and shook her head. "A year?"

"Yes."

"Fine. But I'm warning you Jasp., I can't do it again."

Jasper smiled toothily. "I promise, you won't have to. It's all or nothing." Jasper reached for Garnet's hand, who allowed her to grab it. "I'm yours forever Garn." Jasper lifted Garnet's hand and placed a kiss on it.

Garnet rolled her eyes, but when Jasper pulled her back down into the bed, she allowed her. "I forgot how much of a sap you are."

Jasper chuckled and pulled Garnet closer to her. "I mean it though. I'm yours."

Garnet cuddled closer to Jasper and yawned. "I know. Can we go back to sleep now?"

Jasper smiled. "Sure."

Garnet woke up to the sound of her smoke alarm going off and Jasper not in bed next to her. She knew that could only mean one thing, Jasper was cooking. She took a deep breath to calm her racing heart before she swung her feet over the edge of the bed and stood.

She stretched her arms above her head as she exited her room and made her way downstairs to the kitchen. She paused and leaned against the kitchen door frame as she watched Jasper stand on her tiptoes to unscrew the smoke alarm.

"I know it was more than five years ago, but what did we discuss about you cooking?" Garnet smiled as she pushed off the door frame.

Jasper turned to face her and laughed. "I should leave the cooking to you," Jasper paused as Garnet stopped in front of her. "But I wanted to cook you breakfast, to show you I meant what I said last night." Jasper watched as Garnet's features flickered between emotions; doubt and appreciation.

Garnet didn't know how to respond, on the one hand, she was still in love with Jasper, but marriage was a whole different thing, especially for them. She hummed and walked over to the stove.

"I'll cook us breakfast." Garnet grabbed the burnt bacon and threw it in the trash. She heads back to the stove and placed new pieces in the pan.

Jasper sighed. Carefully, she made her way behind Garnet and wrapped her arms around her, her chin tucked in the crook of her neck. "Good morning by the way."

Garnet hummed but kept her focus on the bacon. "Good morning." Naturally, like no time has passed, Garnet's body relaxed against Jasper's chest. They used to cook a lot like this when they were dating.

"What are you in the mood for doing today?"

Garnet's breath hitched as Jasper's breath ghosted over her skin. Five years and her body still reacted the same way to Jasper. Garnet focused on the bacon in the pan.

"I have to work in a few hours, last minute client." Garnet pulled the bacon from the pan and placed them on a paper towel.

"What about after?"

Garnet tilted her head to look at Jasper. "What do you have planned?"

Jasper smiled and kissed Garnet's shoulder. "It's a surprise but it depends on your availability."

Garnet turned off the stove, placed down the fork and turned in Jasper's arms to face her. "I don't know when I'll be free. But I can text you when I'm free."

Jasper locked eyes with Garnet and nodded. She knows Garnet's work takes a lot of her time, it did when they were together. But that doesn't mean she can't plan something for afterwards.

Jasper smiled. "See you when you get home."
