Chapter 1
"Daddy's Coming"
Webby couldn't sleep. She kept seeing Louie chained up, bruised, and beaten by her mortal enemy, Soran, she kept waking up to make sure Louie was still there. She finally decided to give up on sleep at that point and got up as quietly as she could. Louie groaned and rolled over to his side, facing away from her.
She tiptoed passed him, grabbed her robe and quietly opened their bedroom door and made her way down the hall. She peered into their children's room; Garret and Hope, as she walked by them. They were both sound asleep. She was thankful that the recent events hadn't scarred them for life.
She made her way to the kitchen and made herself a cup of grape juice. She made a face when she saw the box of tea next to the juice. She still couldn't stand the taste of tea, even though they did have the stuff in the house for the kids and Louie.
After defeating Soran just last year, she felt like something was still off. Like it had been too easy for them to just escape, and with Louie? Soran would never have given up Louie just like that. Not when it satisfied her too much for her to torture him simply because they were married, and she held a grudge against her.
She must be planning something big.
Webby glanced at the photo of her and her grandmother Ms. Beakley. It was back when she was eleven years old. They were at the beach, having a grand time. One of the last they would have until she passed away two years later.
Webby's heart ached as she stared at it. She missed her grandmother and wished she was still around. She'd know what to do in a situation like this. She had been the most famous S.H.U.S.H. Agent in the world, and the best grandma in the world.
Taking over her job was a dream come true. Then marrying Louie and having a family all her own was even more then she'd ever had dreamt of. Now she had to protect them even more now that Soran had shown herself again.
Webby sighed, closed her eyes and took a sip of her juice.
"What are you doing up so late?"
Webby's eyes opened and Louie stood in the doorway of the kitchen, he rubbed his eyes and yawned. Even though he was now twenty-two he still looked so much like a kid waking up for a glass of water in the middle of the night.
"Couldn't sleep." Webby replied. Louie walked over to her and nuzzled her neck before kissing her on the lips. "What about you?" Webby asked once they pulled away, "You should be getting some sleep," she added and looked guilty at his wounds. "You had a rough couple of days, after being in a coma for over a year." She reminded him.
"I, I'm fine." Louie muttered.
Webby watched him as he went to the cabinet and got out a glass. She noticed his hand shaking and got up a bit too late before it slipped out of his hands and shattered to the floor. Louie groaned in frustration as he went to pick up the shattered glass. Webby grabbed his shaky hand and squeezed it gently. Louie looked at her with tears in his eyes.
"It's okay, Louie. I got it." She assured him. "Go, sit down." She told him. Louie nodded gloomily and sat down next to her empty chair. Webby's trained ears scanned the house for any stirring of their kids. When she heard none, she quietly put the glass away in the trash and got out another one.
"I, I'm sorry, Webs." Louie stammered. Webby made him a cup of tea and slowly walked back over to him. "I should be okay with this by now. I mean, I feel fine. Really. So, what's wrong with me?" He asked.
"Louie," Webby began gently as she handed the cup to him. He took it gratefully and took a sip, reminding her so much of Uncle Scrooge. "It's your body, not your mind, reacting to the aftermath of what you've gone through because of Soran." She explained. "Mentally you are better, but physically..." Her voice trailed off as Louie began trembling again.
"I hate that I was so weak," Louie whispered. He stared down at his tea, not looking at Webby who he was sure was giving him a pity stare. He hated those, more then the fact that he was weak. "So, so helpless that I couldn't protect you or Dewey..."
Webby bit her bottom lip. It's been over three days since Louie was captured by her sworn enemy. She and Dewey had rushed to save him, but in all that time Soran had tortured, violated him, and abused him in more ways than Webby dared to imagine.
All because of her...
"Come on," Webby said. She got up making the chair scratch the kitchen floor. Louie looked up from his cup of tea in alarm, but when he saw her holding out a hand to him, he gave her a small smile. "Let me prove to you, that you aren't weak." She said.
Louie gazed into her twinkling eyes and knew what she meant almost immediately he put down his cup and took her hand. Webby led him over to the couch and pushed him down gently on top of it as she climbed on top of him.
"Ww…Webby. Y..you sure about this?" He stammered as she leaned in close to his face. Webby flipped her hair to one side and smiled at him. "The kids are upstairs asleep, what if we -." But he didn't get a chance to finish his sentence because Webby had started kissing him gently at first, Louie didn't resist and kissed her back more firmly. Just as it started to heat up, they suddenly heard a loud crash from upstairs.
Garret and Hope muffled screams made them both jump up off the couch. Webby quickly put her shirt back on and raced after Louie who was taking the stairs two at a time.
He reached their bedroom door before she did and he stood there, frozen in the doorway his face as pale as a ghost as he stared into the room. Webby fearfully walked up behind him and peered into the room. Her heart sank when she saw that both Garret and Hope were gone.
She slowly pushed passed Louie to take a closer look and find some clues. The window broken; Hope's teddy bear was on the floor. Louie had given Hope the bear when she turned six-years-old this pass year. She'd had never gone anywhere without it. Webby picked it up with a shaky hand and turned it over. There was a note pinned too it.
"Ll..Louie..." Webby choked out. She turned slowly to him and showed him the note.
Louie shook himself out of his frozen trance and read what was on the note out loud.
"If you ever want to see your kids again, surrender yourself and Dewey. Llewellyn knows what will happen if you don't." -Soran.
Louie swallowed hard as he slowly fell to his knees.
His sudden memory of his kidnapping by FOWL still fresh in his mind flooded back to him. He saw a flash of the blade as Soran taunted him with it before using it to cut his body up bit by bit until Webby and Dewey finally came and rescued him.
"Right." Webby said in alarm. "I'm calling Dewey."
Louie could barely hear what she was saying. He kept staring at the empty beds, the broken window, and now he could practically hear Soran's voice in his head again...
"My sweet, pretty boy. It's adorable how you are tied up like this..."
Louie squeezed his eyes shut and gritted his teeth together as the memory of her on top of him came flooding back. She waved a knife in front of his face tauntingly as he struggled against his restraints. She leaned forward and whispered.
"This is going to be so much fun."
"Okay, Huey and Dewey are on their way." Webby said, making Louie's eyes snap open. He watched her pace around the room calmly looking for any more clues that could lead them to the kids. Louie's heart pounded hard against his chest.
He hadn't told Webby what Soran had done to him, or what she made him do for her that whole two weeks he was held captive. It would hurt her too much, and that's exactly what Soran wanted. For Webby to be hurt; and Louie, Louie wasn't about to give anything Soran wanted.
Not even his kids. His kids.
Soran had the kids.
Louie tried to focus as he tried wrapping his head around it.
Garret was only eight, and Hope. Poor little Hope she was only six. Not to mention has really bad asthma. Louie bet the kidnappers didn't even give her a chance to grab it before they snatched her. It wouldn't be long now before she had a panic attack and, and...
"We need to come up with some sort of plan -." Webby was saying, making Louie blink out of his own thoughts. When Louie didn't say anything, she turned around to look at him and saw his eyes brimming with tears. "Louie, it, it's going to be alright." She assured him, trying to convince herself that as well.
"I, it's happening all over again." Louie choked out. He sat down and hugged his knees close to his chest. "Webs. I, I can't -." He stammered and broke down completely as he started to cry. Webby quickly rushed over to him and flung her arms around him as she fell to her knees.
"We'll figure this out, Louie." Webby whispered. "Just like we did with you. We'll get them back. I promise." Webby cupped his face in her hands, making him look up into her sparkling green eyes that were brimmed with tears also.
Louie sniffled and nodded slowly.
"Soran is going to pay." She added, letting go of his face. She clinched her fists that held the ransom note. It made a crunching noise in her hands.
Louie's heart fluttered over Webby's loyalty to her family. Her kind heart was the reason he fell in love with her in the first place. She loved him even with all his faults. It made him want to work even harder to change, to be the man Webby needed him to be.
"Alright." Webby said, she wiped her own tears away with her sleeve and stood up. "Pull yourself together before your brother's get here. You know how they like to tease." She told him as she stood up. "I'm going gather up some gear. We're leaving as soon as we can." She looked back at him when he didn't answer. Louie stared back at her. "We're getting them back. Louie. It's all going to be okay." She assured him, fire in her eyes.
Louie gave her a small smile and nodded.
"I'll meet you downstairs when they get here." She told him. He watched as she threw the ransom note to the ground as she exited the room.
Leaving Louie alone.
Louie crawled towards the note and with shaky hands smoothed it out onto his lap and stared at the chicken scratched handwriting that was Soran's. He waited until the words begin to glow a brilliant gold color and the words shifted into a whole other message.
Just for him.
He waited until the glowing stopped and was able to read the message.
Llewellyn,
We can do this the hard way or the easy way, and I doubt that you would want it the hard way after what happened last time. Come alone, and I promise no harm will come to the kids, or your wife. Simple trade of a life for another. Shouldn't be too hard for a weakling like you. I have a surprise for you...
See you soon. Darling.
The words faded but Louie kept staring at the note.
So, this was it. Soran wanted him. Not the kids, not Webby.
She also mentioned a surprise. Louie hated surprises. Good or Bad. He had a gut feeling that whatever 'surprise' Soran had in store for him wasn't a good one.
He pondered what to do next as he heard his brother's pull up in the driveway. Louie slowly got to his feet and stuck his head out of his kids' room. The doorbell rang and Webby quickly answered it.
"We got here as fast as we could." Huey told Webby as they entered the kitchen.
Louie crept close to the top of the stairs to listen.
"What's the emergency?" Dewey asked. Dewey walked over to the fridge and helped himself to some leftover meatloaf they had that evening for dinner.
"The kids were kidnapped just a few minutes ago." Webby answered. Dewey nearly choked on the meatloaf; Huey stared at Webby in disbelief. "It was Soran, she, she wants Dewey and me in exchange for the kids." She began.
Dewey groaned loudly.
"These FOWL agents. Don't they ever just give up?" He snapped and slammed down the plate of food, no longer hungry. He glared at the meat as if it was all it's fault.
"That's not in their nature." Webby grumbled.
"It's times like these I'm glad I quit S.H.U.S.H." Dewey grumbled. He suddenly looked up and looked around. "Where's Louie?" He asked in a panic.
Louie quickly backed up into the kids' room.
"Upstairs. He'll be down in a minute." Webby assured him. "Although, that's been five minutes ago."
Louie didn't have to see Webby's face to know her eyes had widen as it got extremely quiet. Louie took that moment to rush to the broken window and leap out of it. He landed on his feet on the ground (at least all that treasure hunting with Uncle Scrooge wasn't a total waste of time.) he had become a little bit more agile from it. If only that kind of thing had helped against Soran, then maybe they wouldn't be in this mess to begin with...
"Louie?!' Webby's voice flooded down from above, in panic.
Louie's heart pounded hard against his chest as his phone vibrated against his jacket pocket. He slowly took it out and looked at it. It was a text from an unknown source, but even as he tapped it he knew who it was from. It showed a picture of Garret and Hope already in a cell, holding onto each other, with frightened looks on their faces.
He glared at the picture, but his heart sank as another message popped up telling him where to go and do. He sighed when another incoming call popped up and Huey's face was shown on the screen. Louie pressed the button and slowly lifted it to his ear.
"Louie? Louie where the hell are you?" Huey's voice came from the other end.
Louie slowly made his way down the driveway and out onto the street. As he pulled his hood up over his head, he took one last look at McDuck Manor and watched as the shadow figures inside the room get smaller and smaller as he continued to walk away.
"I'm getting the kids back, Huey." Louie told him, finally.
"What? Don't be an idiot, Louie. We'll get them back together." Huey said quickly. Louie could hear the panic in his voice also.
"T..tell Webs. I, I'm sorry." Louie whispered. "But I have to do this, alone." He pressed the end call button, put the ringtone on mute, then tossed the phone in a nearby trash can as was told to do in the text. He looked out into the pitch-black darkness and swallowed hard.
"Don't worry kids," He thought "Daddy's coming."
He listened to the phone violently vibrate as he faded away into the night.
Back at the mansion tension was high as Webby paced back and forth angerly. Huey and Dewey watched quietly and rather nervously until Webby stopped pacing.
"Webby?" Dewey asked nervously. He reached out a hand for a reassuring touch.
"That idiot!" Webby growled, suddenly.
Dewey jumped back when she leapt up and karate chopped one of the bed posts of her kid's bed. Huey and Dewey jumped when the wood spilt in two.
"What was he thinking? He can't take on Soran alone. He barely survived last time!" Webby snarled to no one in particular.
Huey and Dewey glanced at each other as they silently argued who would take this one as Webby continued to pound another bedside post with her fists. In the end Dewey sighed, and walked up to her slowly and put a hand on her shoulder.
Webby's muscles tensed up as she whirled around to glare at him, her eyes shining with tears. Dewey looked at her sadly and without permission gave her a tight hug. Webby tried to jerk away from him, wanting to continue to punch the bedpost instead, but the made Dewey hug her even tighter. He stayed that way until she finally relaxed her muscle's and calmed down.
"You with us now, Webby?" Huey asked. Webby closed her eyes and took a deep breath before answering,
"Y..yeah." Webby answered. Huey spotted the note on the floor and picked it up. He got out his All Seeing Eyeglasses that he had gotten long ago on one of their adventures with their Uncle, and put them on.
The glasses helped to see what was not there, and Huey had a hunch that there was more to this then met the 'eye'. He read what was on it as Dewey and Webby broke apart he handed the note and glasses to Dewey.
Dewey also skimmed the note.
"Well, now we know why Louie took off." Dewey said with a sigh. Webby looked at him confused. He handed the glasses and the note over to Webby who took it and read the second message she hadn't seen before, and her heat sank.
"She wanted Louie? This whole time?" She asked. "Why?" She let go of the note and they watched it float gently to the floor again, as Webby handed Huey back his glasses.
"To mess with you." Dewey said. Webby looked up at him. "Rule number one. Use your enemy's weakness against them." He reminded Webby.
Webby bit her bottom beak, then looked over at Huey. The guy who always had a plan and was always prepared for anything.
"Okay, what do we do." She asked.
From her state of mind, Webby could not come up with a plan on her own. She was too worried and concerned for her family to think straight.
Huey thought for a minute then a smile slowly spread across his face.
"Dewey, are you still in contact with the Dewey Dozen?" He asked referring to the name of the group of the last con Louie ever done. Dewey smiled too and took out his phone.
"Got them on speed dial." He replied.
