The Life and Times of Louie Duck

Written by Athena

Chapter 2

"No. Not this time."

Louie crept his way down the deserted streets of Duckberg. He kept seeing the image of Soran, and what she did to him. He shivered and hugged his hoodie closer to his chest.

He had no idea why she was so fascinated with him, except for the simple fact that he was married to Webby. She couldn't stand the fact that her mortal enemy had something else she didn't. Now, she made it personal when she took his kids.

"She's going to pay." Webby's threat echoed in his ears.

Hell, yes.

She was going to pay.

Louie walked a couple more blocks until he saw the garage that his brother kept his plane that he was still able to keep even after leaving S.H.U.S.H. He stopped in front of it and pounded the red button with his fist making the garage door slowly open. He watched impatiently as Dewey's blue plane (with red flames) he liked to call 'The Speed Demon' slowly came into view.

After the garage door opened all the way he rushed in and was about just about to board the plane when a voice behind him asked.

"Louie?"

Louie slowly turned and was face to face with his sister-in-law Gosalyn standing in the doorway of the garage. She had on her tinkering apron that was splattered with oil, her bright red hair was all covered in ash, and her eyes narrowed at Louie who was edging slowly towards the plane's opened mouth, as the blood drained from his face.

"Louie, what are you doing here?"

Louie smiled sheepishly at her and took a step backwards onto the mouth of the plane. Gosalyn's eyes narrowed.

"No." She snapped. "No, don't you dare -."

Her phone rang. She held up one finger at him as she got it out of her apron and pressed the button. As Dewey's voice flooded out from the other end Louie took that minute to rush to the plane, type in the coordinate's that Soran had sent him along with that horrible picture of his kids and started up the plane.

He glanced out the window at Gosalyn who was frantically talking to Dewey and looking back at him with worried and concerned eyes. He mouthed the words "I'm sorry." to her as he grabbed for the wheel and the plane took off.

He was in for it now. Louie would have to make it up to her once he got the kids back home safe and sound. He had a bad habit of 'borrowing' things from Gosalyn whenever he needed something. He winced at the last memory of Gosalyn lecturing him while holding him in a choke hold after stealing her motorcycle and giving Webby a joy ride.

But it was all worth it because Louie choose that time to purpose to Webby. When she said yes that was the most perfect moment of his life. That seemed so long ago now, and as he flew through the air he wondered when things were ever going to be that perfect again...

Webby was nervously waiting for Dewey to get off the phone after his sixth phone call. She couldn't help but feel that something else was off. Louie was keeping something else from her. She could feel it the moment he woke up from being in a coma. But she didn't want to add any more stress on him then he was already having.

She figured Louie would tell her when he was ready.

But...

Why did Louie just tell Webby about the second note? What surprise could Soran possibly have for him? What was Louie keeping from her?

All these questions and no answers. She wished she could skip this part of her spy career, but she had to take the good with the bad when it came to being a spy. That's what her Granny had always taught her.

"This is not good." Dewey said, interrupting Webby's thoughts.

"Are they coming?" She asked him hopefully. Dewey glanced over at Huey as their eyes met Webby read the silent conversation between them.

Huey: How bad is it?

Dewey: Very bad.

"Dewey!" Webby shouted. Dewey slowly turned to face her.

"I, It's Louie. He just took off in our plane." Dewey answered. "Gosalyn tried getting him on the radar but, he, he's gone completely off the grid..."

Utter silence.

"This has gone too far." Webby said finally. "If Soran doesn't end up killing him, once he's home I'm going too." She threatened.

Huey and Dewey chuckled nervously. Webby narrowed her eyes at them and they abruptly stopped. She wasn't kidding.

Dewey cleared his throat before being the first to speak.

"The Dewey Dozen is a go. They'll be here any second -."

Just then the doorbell rang. Huey went to answer it. Lena and Violet were the first to arrive. They hugged Webby supporting then greeted Huey and Dewey with nods and small smiles. Then came Della, Fenton, Donald, Daisy, Darkwing Duck and Launchpad, Scrooge McDuck. With Webby was already there, and Gosalyn coming in last that made the total of Dewey's Dozen.

Gosalyn walked past Webby. gave her a reassuring hug then walked over to Dewey and gave him a peck on the cheek. Dewey took her hand and squeezed it tightly; as if he too, was afraid she'd be the next to disappear.

"You all know why you're here." Dewey said in a loud clear voice. He stood up straight and tall, and his voice didn't waver.

Scrooge's eyes twinkled at his Great-Nephew with pride. He had grown so much over the years. Hearing Scrooge lectures on their adventures, his stories of his childhood, and his famous war speeches had rubbed off him splendidly.

"We need to get Garret, Hope, and Louie all back safely, and since Louie went rouge and took our plane, we need a way to travel." He continued.

Everyone looked over at Della and Launchpad.

Ever since the Cloudslayer had blown up after Nega Duck (Darkwing Duck's mortal enemy) had tried taking over Duckberg, the Duck family had been sort of, well, grounded from air travel for a while. Dewey and Gosalyn's plane were the only one they had left.

"We might have something that could get the job done." Della said. "But it's still in the experimental phase..." She explained.

"Lucky for us, though," Launchpad added, "we have just the crash dummy to test it out..."

Back in the air Louie felt his ears burning. He was being talked about, and he knew it had to be his family back home.

So, they were already planning to come after him.

He didn't doubt that for a second, he had already taken that into account and if his plan he had cooped up while piloting for the last couple hours works according to his six step plan he can get everyone home safely. While staying clear away from step six as he possibly could. But he already knew, deep in his heart that there was no avoiding step six.

As land began to appear on the radar of the plane, he did a nosedive and landed safely and securely on a small piece of land somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean. He parked looked out the window and a chill ran down his spine as a dozen or so robotic droids surrounded the plan, laser guns pointed at it.

Louie closed his eyes, took a deep breath and without opening them he pressed the button that opened the mouth of the plane. He heard the clink and clang of the robots storming onto the plane. He shivered slightly. He and robots do not mix. He slowly opened his eyes and was face to face with the end of the gun pointed at him.

"Llewellyn Vanderquack Duck." One said in an irritating robot voice. Louie grinded his teeth together and slowly stood up from the cock pit and put his hands up in the air. "Mistress Soran Abernafy requests your precedence at once."

"Yeah, Yeah. Just take me to her already." Louie snapped as he passed them and off the plane. He waited for the first robot who spoke to walk on ahead of him so that he could follow as the rest of the robots lined up behind Louie with guns still pointed at him.

As they marched him along the sandy beach Louie took in his surroundings. Rule number one of Webby's survival tactics. He was glad he had at least payed attention to her during her stories she'd tell him before bed. If she were here, she'd be proud of him, then again, she'd probably kill him (if Soran didn't get the chance first) for leaving her behind.

Louie pushed that thought back, deep inside his mind as he regained his focus and looked around. He saw the castle looming eerily on a high slope.

Memories started flooding back as they got closer, and closer to it. He tried letting sound of the waves crashing against the shore, and the smell of the ocean calm him down but that did no good as they finally reached the entrance to the castle.

Louie swallowed hard as the gate lowered and the robot behind him nudged him forward. They continued onward. The smell of rotten cabbage and old spices filled Louie's nostrils as they walked down a long narrow hallway.

He tried peering in each room as they passed them hoping to catch a glimpse of the kids but knowing Soran she probably had them stashed somewhere else inside the castle. Soran didn't just have one giant cell in one part of the castle like most do. Instead, she has about a thousand tiny cells in each room making it more enjoyable for her to torture her victims.

He only hoped that Garret was at least in the same cell as his sister and not have gotten separated since that picture was taken. He was a good older brother, looking after his sister was his greatest stride. So as long as Garret was with Hope, Louie felt a little better about the whole situation with Hope's panic attacks.

The robot ahead of him finally stopped marching in front of a familiar looking oak door Louie's breathing became increasingly rapid. He stared at the carved one single eye in front of the door. Its emerald green eyes seemed to burn into his soul as the robot knocked softly on the door. It automatically creaked open and the robot pushed it open wider. Louie heard the crackling of the fireplace and the large desk in front of it.

"Hello, again. Darling Llewellyn." Louie started shaking violently when a tall sterling bird moved out from behind the desk.

She wore a red ball gown dress and matching high hells that clicked along the stone floor as she walked towards him. The robot bowed at her. She waved him out of the room and Louie held his breath as he turned and shut the door quietly behind him.

He looked around and spotted a single cell on the far side of the room. He wanted to call out to Garret and Hope but he couldn't speak, he couldn't move, all he could do was stare at the woman who had caused him and his family so much pain as she finally came up to him.

"How'd you like the dress?" She asked as she twirled around for him. Louie didn't say anything and stared down at the floor.

"I wanted it red, you know..." She continued her voice trailing off.

She stopped twirling and put her hand under Louie's chin, lifting his head gently making him look at her. She smiled at him and brushed his, now, sweaty bangs out of his face before she pressed her lips firmly on Louie's mouth.

Louie froze.

He couldn't move as she pulled away and put a hand to his trembling cheek and rubbed it gently with her cold thumb. "because it blends in so well with the color of blood."

Louie gulped.

"Where are Garret and Hope." He asked once he finally found the courage to speak.

"You mean the little darlings?" She cooed removing her hand from his face and walking towards the darkened cell. A smiled slowly spread across her face as she flipped on the light to the cell. Louie's heart sank when he saw Garret and Hope.

"D,Daddy?" Hope choked out weakly.

Louie forced himself to move. He quickly rushed to the cell and fell to his knees. He put his hands on the bars and stared into it. Both Garret and Hope had deep cuts and bruises all over their arms and legs. Garret had a black eye and swollen lip while Hope had a red streak across her face.

"Garret, Hope..." Louie replied. He looked over at Soran and glared at her. "You promised not to harm them if I turned myself in." He snarled.

Soran scoffed and crossed her arms.

"Had to do something to keep myself entertained while waiting for you, you know how I hate waiting, darling." She answered, with a shrug.

"Y, You can't be here, Dad." Garret squeaked. Louie turned his attention back to the kids. "She, She's crazy. She's going to, to -."" Garret said.

Soran cleared her throat loudly making Garret looked over at her. She squinted her eyes at him. Daring him to say more. His eyes widen and he automatically stopped talking.

"It's going to be okay, Garret." Louie assured him. "I'm taking you guys home to your Mother." He told him firmly. He glared over at Soran who was still smiling but with her eyes twinkling brightly. He knew that look, all too well.

"Let them go." He ordered, sounding a lot braver than he felt. Soran chuckled softly she bent down, lifted her ball gown about halfway revealing her thigh, until the tip of the blade of her dagger peeked out.

Louie felt all the blood drain from his face. He slowly let go of the cell bars and stood up as Soran gripped the handle of her dagger and pulled it out of its belt she kept strapped to her leg. She moved in close to Louie, backing him up against the far side of the wall.

"Did you forget your manners after all this time?" She snarled. She slowly lifted the dagger to his throat. Louie's eyes darted from the blade to Garret and Hope then finally up into Soran's evil, gleaming yellow eyes. Soran leaned in close to him.

"Need I remind you, what happens when someone doesn't mind their manners?" She whispered in his ear. She pressed the dagger against his throat gently at first. "Maybe I should let your children watch as I cut and dice you up, again."

"No." Louie stammered. "Not this time." He said sounding a lot braver than he felt.

Big mistake.

Soran narrowed her eyes and pressed the dagger much harder against his throat. Making him close his eyes and scream. Garret and Hope started to cry.

"I'll make sure you never see that wife of yours ever again, after that little outburst." Soran said, loudly over the noise. "As for your darling little children I believe I'll have our son will deal with them personally."

Louie's eyes snapped open and stared at her as she gently removed the dagger. The kids stopped crying and stared at her, confused.

"O, Our s,son?" He choked out.

Soran's eyes twinkled as the door to the room opened. All four of them looked over at the doorway.

A boy no older than Garret stood there. He looked just like Louie but had his mother's cold yellow eyes. He wore a black suite, and bow tie looking a lot like a young James Bond. He lifted his black shoes and scratched his leg as he took in the scene in front of him. But that's not what horrified Louie the most about his appearance.

What horrified him was the fact that he was half robot. Complete with a metal arm, his eyes were marble and Louie was pretty sure that he could use laser vision on them whenever he felt like it, and he had a metal clanking sound coming from him whenever he moved making Louie cringe.

"Told you I had a surprise." Soran told Louie who continued to stare at the spitting image of himself. "Luca cleans up nice, doesn't he?" She asked beaming at her son.

"H, How?" Louie stammered.

"I managed to swipe some of your DNA, before you were rescued, last time." She explained. "Had some difficulties with the cloning process, so..."

"What did you do to him?" Louie asked, not able to take his eyes of his robot parts.

"Why, I modified him. Maybe him better, stronger, even smarter. then the smarties." Soran replied.

Louie glared at her when she used the quote his Uncle Scrooge always used.

"You done playing with him, yet, Mother?" Luca asked in a bored voice. He didn't even look at Louie but glanced over at Garret and Hope and made a sour face at them.

"I, I don't understand." Louie heard Hope whisper to Garret. "Is that boy my brother too?"

"No. He isn't." Both Louie and Garret said at the same time.

Louie and Garret gave each other a small smile but it quickly faded when Luca strolled up to their cell and leaned against the bars. He narrowed his eyes at Garret and frowned at Hope. Louie saw Garret squeeze his sister's hand tightly and didn't stand down when the boy glared at him. Garret glared back, just daring him to try something.

Louie had never been prouder of his boy then he was at that moment. Uncle Donald had taught him well.

"I assume, Mother," Luca said, not taking his eyes off Hope, "that the girl resembles the mother the most?" He asked. "When it comes to genes?"

"Yes, sometimes. Darling." Soran answered. "Take you for example, you are a spitting image of your father." She added.

Luca took that moment to look sharply at Louie. He could practically smell the grudge he had been holding against him. Louie stared aback at him.

"Mother," Luca said, turning his attention back to Hope. "I'd like to take the small one to my room."

"Of course, darling." Soran cooed, nodding approvingly. She handed him the keys that were also dangling from the belt on her leg. Luca took them and opened the cell just partly, enough for him to squeeze through.

"You so much as touch her -." Garret began.

But Luca ignored him and grabbed hold of Hope's arm. She tried holding onto Garret as tightly as she could, but the boy quickly held up his hand, made a fist. He pounded the stone underneath him making it cave under Garrett.

He screamed, and Hope sobbed as Luca began dragging her out of the room. Louie stared at him. He was surprisingly strong.

"Garret!" Louie shouted.

"I, I'm okay. Dad. I think." Garret called out. "I'm trying to climb back up but I, I broke my ankle. I, I can't -."

"Hang in there, buddy." Louie replied.

"Like I have a choice?" Garret grumbled.

Hope began brawling as Luca got closer to the door.

"Luca!" Louie shouted, over Hope's crying. Luca paused at the doorway and slowly turned to face his father."W, what are you going to do with Hope?" He asked. Luca smiled; it sent a chill down Louie's spine. He looked like his mother when he smiled.

"I'm going to make sure she doesn't resemble her mother anymore." Luca replied. Louie stared at him; eyes wide. Hope had gone completely silent, a bad sign that a panic attack was about to happen. Louie's heart pounded hard against his chest. "Her mother is the reason mine is in so much pain these days. Right, Mother?" He asked.

"Right, darling." Soran agreed. Luca nodded understandingly. He turned to leave, still holding onto Hope's arm.

"Luca, Luca wait. Please!" Louie pleaded. "Take me instead. Do whatever you want with me. Just leave my daughter alone."

Luca pretended to consider it as he stared off into the distance then looked over at Louie one last time.

"I believe you are already spoken for, Dad." Luca said, using the word Dad in an irritable tone. " Not to mention," Luca said, "this would be just as good as if I were doing it to you."

"She is a part of you after all, just like me." Luca continued. "Only difference is, we have different mothers. If it weren't for the simple fact that her mother hurt mine so badly, then all this would have never happened in the first place. Right?" He asked.

Louie hung his head. He had no idea what to say to that. What he said was true.

"So then," Luca said, "taking my anger out on the daughter of my mother's sworn enemy would not only satisfy her but benefit me as well. I always wanted a target to practice my laser shots on other than those idiotic robots." He continued, "Those robots feel no pain, like this one here will." He added, his marble eye glinted as he turned away from him.

Silence.

"I'll be in my room, Mother." Luca said, "I'd rather not be disturbed."

"Make me proud, my son." Soran called as he finally left the room.

Louie watched them go, not taking his eyes off Hope. Her eyes had rolled to the back of her head and her face was turning that dark shade of blue. She couldn't breathe, couldn't call out, see or hear anything at this moment.

She was having a panic attack.

Back in Duckburg, Launchpad was testing out the newest airplane, the Rocket Launcher, it had seventy-two horsepower engine, a brilliant control panel complete with the top of the line radar system, and new leather chairs in the cock pit.

Della was sitting next to him giving out instructions while the others were in the back coming up with a plan.

"You really think she'd fall for that?" Gosalyn asked, she raised an eyebrow at Dewey. He had just got done telling her his plan to get through the gates of the castle. Mostly using the same method has he did last time when they rescued Louie.

"Didn't you say she had a bunch of armed robots that can regenerate the moment once they are disassembled?" She asked.

"Yeah. Forgot about that." Dewey said, he sighed in frustration and looked over at Huey. He was busy making a check list and going over it while the rest practiced their combat moves on each other, all of them had angry determined faces, best used in a situation like this.

"I can't think under these circumstances." He grumbled. Gosalyn face softened as she took his hand and squeezed it tightly. Dewey looked at her.

"We're going to get them back." She told them. "All of them." She added.

Dewey nodded slowly in agreement.

"I, I just can't help but think about what they must be going through right now." Dewey whispered. "It's, it's clouding my judgement in coming up with a plan. Why did Huey put me in charge of planning, anyway?" He asked in an irritable tone. "He's the one who comes up with the plans. I'm the gutsy guy. He's the brains. Louie's -."

He stopped short at the mention of Louie as his voice wavered. Gosalyn gave him a small smile. She could tell he was extremely more worried about Louie and the kids then the rest of them.

Soran was however, his and Webby's ach enemy.

"Then let me handle the plan." She told him.

"But you are in charge of making the weapons." He reminded her.

He looked down at her work bench and noticed she hardly even touched her wrench. The tension but be running through her too.

"I'll be fine." She assured him. "Why don't you go find Webby. I'm sure she could use a friend right now." She suggested.

Dewey looked towards the mansion where Webby had disappeared through moments ago. Dewey had noticed and stopped her by grabbing her arm, but when he saw tears in her eyes that pleaded for him silently to leave her alone.

Well...

"Okay." Dewey said, finally. He was worried about Webby. She hadn't come back out for a couple of hours. It made Dewey wonder what she was doing. He gave Gosalyn a peck on the cheek before letting go of her hand and slowly began walking towards the mansion.

It took Dewey awhile to find Webby, when he finally did, she found her in the bedroom she and Louie shared. He quietly pushed the door open wider and tip toed in. She was sitting on the edge of the bed, clinching something in her hands, and crying.

Dewey slowly walked over to her and sat down beside her.

"W,Webby?" Dewey asked.

Webby's head snapped up at Dewey. Her tear stained face made Dewey's heart ache. She would never allow anyone but him to see her cry. Not even Louie. She was good at hiding her emotions around Louie, since Louie was a bit careless in showing his.

Dewey felt, even thought that Louie was his brother, he felt that Louie should show a little more back bone and stand up for himself. He tried telling him that once but all he said in return was,

"Why would I need to do that? When I have Webby?"

Dewey wanted to say that Webby wouldn't always be around to protect him. But he knew that if he did it would only start something up between them and they would have bickered and not talk for weeks until Webby or Gosalyn made them make up.

Webby told him once that she had to be strong for the both of them. Even when Louie couldn't. Dewey glanced at what she was holding, it was her and Louie's wedding photo. Dewey pierced his beak tight.

"H, He's going to be alright." Dewey said.

Not sure who he was trying more to convince, him or her.

Apparently, that only made it worse and buried her face in his shoulder and started crying loudly. Dewey had no idea what to do except wait for her to calm down. When she finally did, she lifted her head and sniffled.

"W, was it easy," She asked. Dewey stared at her confused. "Was it easy to, to just walk away?" Dewey sighed heavily. He knew what she was asking. She was asking if it was easy for him to just walk away from the spy life, from S.H.U.S.H.

"I'm just one of the few who made it easy." Dewey answered finally. "This," He paused and cupped her face in his hands to wipe away the tears that were still falling, "this was the reason why I left." He told her.

It was.

He couldn't take the heart ache of the aftermath of a mission. When his wife almost got killed after the whole Nega Duck incident; well, that was it for him. Dewey knew exactly how Webby was feeling right now.

"But," Dewey continued. "Times like this, reminds you that you can't just walk away from being a spy. It always comes back around and bites you in the ass." He said.

"I, I just don't think I can handle this anymore." Webby whispered. "I, I've put the kids in danger. Louie, Louie wouldn't have even met Soran if it weren't for me, and, and..." She hiccupped then exhaled deeply before closing her eyes.

When Webby didn't open her eyes Dewey got up gently, walked over to their stereo and turned it on. Dewey turned back to look at Webby who still didn't open them even when her and Louie's song started to play.

"Come on." Dewey whispered.

Webby opened her eyes and looked at him. She really wanted to be left alone, but she knew her best friend was trying to make her feel better. So, she gave him a small smile and took his hand. He slowly took the lead, as he moved them across the carpet as Webby put her head on his chest. They danced a slow dance until the song was over and they pulled away.

"Well," Webby said as Dewey went over to the stereo and turned it off. "One good thing came out of you being an agent." Webby smiled when Dewey arched an eyebrow at her.

"What's that?" He asked.

"You've became a better dancer." She remarked. That made Dewey blush and smile back at her.

"Ready to see what the other's need us to do?" He asked her and offered his arm out to her. That made her giggle. She nodded and hooked her arm through his as he led her out of the room and down the stairs.

"Well, this was a mission I'm proud to say I was successful with." He said

"Mission?" Webby asked, her turn to raise an eyebrow at him.

They made it out of the mansion and walked over towards the group.

"I got you to smile." He told her.

It was her turn to blush a deep shade of red.

"Okay, kids." Scrooge McDuck said loudly over the chatter and noise. Everyone quieted down. "Let's go get our family back." He told them.

"YEAH!" Everyone shouted as the all rushed onto the Rocket Launcher.

Webby felt her spirit lift a little as Dewey grabbed her hand and they both followed suit.
