Chapter 10
"No, No Dad. We can't!"
Webby made it to the plane without any problem without robots or Lacy, who was now pulling playfully at her hair, and giggling non stop.
"Mom! You're back!" Hope cried out. She ran up to her mother as she got closer to the plane and was about to hug her when she stopped short. "W,what's that?" She asked, narrowing her eyes at Lacy.
"Never mind that, get back on the plane." Webby ordered. She hustled Hope back inside with the baby screeching with laughter as they entered the mouth of the plane.
"W,Webby?" Gosayln asked. Webby looked over at her sister-in-law and saw that her eyes were bloodshot from crying.
She saw Dewey slumped over on one of the cots, groaning loudly, and Garret, he was just waking up from a nap. His wounds looked like they have been completely heeled with help from Gosalyn. After he yawned and stretched his eyes widen when he saw Webby.
"Mom!" He jumped up and rushed for her, but stopped short when he saw what Webby was holding."Who is that?" He asked, his heart pounding hard against his chest.
"Kids." Webby said, softly, "This is Lacy. She's," She paused as she tried to find the right words to discribe her, so not to raise any panic with Hope and Garett. She hadn't thought about how they'd react to this child before she agreed to be her caretaker.
She bit the bottom of her bill.
"Luca's sister." She said finally.
"N, No." Garett stammered. He fell to the ground and started backing up as Webby took a conceren tep towards him. "T, This can't be happening!" He wailed.
"Garret? What's gotten into you?" Webby asked.
Hope quickly darted out from behind her and went to comfort Garret as she helped him to his feet. Both of them stared at her like she had just told them that Santa wasn't welcome in Uncle Scrooge's mansion, again.
Dewey's groans gotten louder making all three snap out their heads towards him.
"H, He's getting worse!" Gosalyn wailed in panic.
Webby slowly walked up to her as the baby started to cry, again. Webby studied his bite mark, his vains around it had turned black, and he was shaking violently. How Louie was able to cope with Soran's bite, Webby will never know.
"What's wrong, Uncle Dewey?" Hope asked, in a tiny voice.
Webby looked down at the now redden faced Lacy then back at Dewey. She sighed deeply. She knew what had to happen, and she didn't like it, not one bit.
"Gosalyn," She whispered, as she got closer to her. Gosalyn looked at her with her eyes brimming with tears. "Do you trust me?" She asked. Gosalyn stared at her for a moment, then looked back at her husband before nodding slowly. "Then move aside, I know what Dewey needs..."
Gosalyn watched in horror as Webby knelt beside Dewey with the baby. The baby suddenly stopped crying and without heistiation grabbed the front of Dewey's shirt, and bit into his neck, almost at once Dewey's vains turned back to blue, and he stopped trembling, then opened his eyes.
"W,Webby?" He choked out when he saw her. "What -?" His eyes widen when he saw the child drinking his blood, again. He slammed himself against the wall, Webby quickly rushed to them in alarm just as the baby hit the wall.
Oddly though, she didn't cry, scream, or wail in pain for that matter as the child slowly let go of Dewey's neck. Gosalyn rushed to Dewey's side as he slowly got to his feet. Webby picked up little Lacy and cuddled her close. Lacy cooed and gurgled at her.
"Webby, what the hell?" Dewey choked out angerly at her. "Why is that thing here? When did you come back, and where the hell is L -."
He stopped and stared past her. Webby looked behind her and her heart sank when she saw Louie he was leaning against the mouth of the plane.
Out of breath, and all covered in blood.
Soran's blood.
"Louie!" All three grown-ups shouted.
"Dad!" Garret and Hope shouted.
They all rushed at him, nearly knocking him down, into a huge group hug. Louie hugged them all back sighing deeply. It was over.
It was finally over.
"You had me worried there for a second, Lou." Dewey told him after they all broke apart.
Louie looked at him then over at Webby who was still holding Lacy. Lacy; however, started up at him and slowly held out her arms to him. Louie slowly moved his towards her and took her away from Webby who's own eyes were now brimming with tears.
He looked down at Lacy who was beaming up at him.
Hope stood up along side Garret who were both glaring at them.
Hope didn't like the fact that Lacy would soon be replacing her as a daughter to her father, and Garret, Garret's heart pounded hard in his chest as he stared at Lacy with the thoughts of last nightmare still lingering in the back of his mind.
"You'll do nicely."
So, this was Lacy. The girl from his dream.
He shuddered and the baby's head turned slowly towards him as the grown-ups talked he could have sworn the baby winked at him.
"Okay, enough of this," Gosalyn said, as she collected herself. "Let's get this plane in the air. Eh?" She grabbed her husband's hand and pulled him gently towards the front of the plane.
She gently helped Dewey into the seat next to her and she started up the plane and in no time they were already in the air before Garett had a chance to convince them to leave Lacy on the island. Of course, he knew it would have been a long shot now. Both his parent's were hypnotized by Lacy. He glanced over at Hope who was still glaring at them.
"Hope?" He whispered. Hope blinked and looked over at him. "I, I don't like this."
"Me neither." Hope said, more loudly making both her parent's look over at them.
Louie's heart sank when he saw the glares on his kid's faces. He walked over towards them with Lacy in his arms. Garret took a step back but Hope stood still, not taking her eyes off him. Louie kenlt down in front of them and looked both of them in the eye.
"Kids. This is Lacy. She's going to be living with us from now on." He told them, in a firm but kind voice.
Hope whirled around and stompped off towards the back of the plane and sat on top of a huge crate, arms crossed, and glaring at the floor, her eyes twinkling with tears. Louie watched her and sighed deeply.
"N,No, Dad. We can't -." Garret tried.
He was backing away too.
"S,She's not normal. She's -." He continued.
"Family." Louie finished for him, firmly.
They glared at each other for a minute then it was Garret's turn to sigh deeply. He knew he wasn't going to win this argument. Not when his Dad mentioned the word family.
"Whatever." Garret grumbled and turned away from him towards his sister.
Louie watched them both talk for awhile as Webby came up beside him and took his hand. He looked over at her.
"It's going to take time." Webby told him, gently. She looked down at Lacy and let the baby grab onto her finger. Lacy gripped it and smiled up at her. "I already like this kid, they will too." She added, looking back up at Louie. He stared at her.
"You'll learn to love this child as much as I do." Soran's words echoed in Louie's mind. "You did with Luca."
Louie swallowed hard and nodded.
"This sucks." Garret grumbled, as he came over to his sister. He climbed on the crate next to her and saw her holding something, he peered over at it. "What's that?" He asked. She explained to him what it was.
"A list of supernaturals?" He repeated, then stared at the name towards the middle. "Aunt Lena's on here." He whispered.
Hope nodded.
"Well, we can mark her off. There's no way she'd work for F.O.W.L." He told her.
Hope nodded again, but that didn't reasure Hope. She loved Aunt Lena, but only a few know about her.
So how did F.O.W.L know?
She had heard stories about how she was once Magica's shadow and working with her to bring down the McDuck family, and of how her Mom and Aunt Violet saved her from the Shadow Realm.
Could it be that someone in their family was feeding F.O.W.L information on them?
She shooked herself. She didn't want to believe it.
"Wonder who Morgana is." Garret said, interupting her thoughts. Hope blinked and looked at him confused. Garret pointed to the name on the top of the list.
She looked at the name.
"Morgana of St. Canard." She muttered.
She looked over at Aunt Gosalyn. She was from St. Canard. That was where she and Uncle Dewey met. That couldn't just be a coincidence.
Could she...?
She pushed that thought deep within her mind. No. Not Aunt Gosalyn. It just wouldn't make sense. She loved them, and Uncle Dewey. She'd never be working for F.O.W.L.
But the thought of her Aunt working for F.O.W.L might have been gone but the feeling of mistrust didn't go away as they made it back home safe and sound.
Everyone was waiting for them as they landed the plane and as Hope and Garret slowly walked out of it holding their parent's hand Hope felt Luca's presence again beside her, and her worries slowly disappeared as everyone gathered around them.
Aunt Lena and Violet rushed over to Webby and gave her a huge hug. The baby smashed in between them, screeching with laughter. Garret and Hope slowly moved away from the group, with gloomy looks on their faces as Lacy hogged most of the attention from the grown-ups.
"Aww." Aunt Lena said.
She took the baby from Webby and started blowing raspberries at her. The baby giggled more excitedly and as Webby watched Garret and Hope move slowly away from the group with gloomy looks on their faces she informed her about Lacy and F.O.W.L.
"Don't worry, so much about it." Lena told her as she cuddled little Lacy in her arms. Lacy looked up at her and Lena watched as her eyes began to slowly close. "Us supernaturals have to stick together right?" She cooed at her.
Lacy nuzzled against Lena's chest and fell asleep in response.
"We can take on anything they throw at us, right?" She asked. Looking at Webby who nodded in agreement. Then her eyes narrowed at her. "Um, Webby, where is the bracelet I made you?" She asked.
Webby bit her bottom bill.
Meanwhile;
Uncle Huey rushed towards his brothers and scolded them for not filling him in on what was going on, or taking him with them. Dewey and Louie only smiled back at him sheepishly.
"So, we're not going to fill any of them in on this, right?" Garret asked, once out of ear shot of the others. "About the list, I mean." He watched as the rest of the group filed into the mansion all talking excitedly to one another.
"No." Hope said, as she glared over at the grown-ups who were still giving all the attention to the baby as the door to the mansion slammed shut behind them."Not just yet, anyway. Luca entrusted me with the list after all." She looked over at Garret and a smile slowly spread across her face.
Garret groaned. He knew that look, all to well.
"Up for another adventure?" She asked him, waving the list in front of his face.
Adventure.
Garret was beginning to hate that word.
"Best not to fight it kid." Uncle Huey's voice rang in his ears as he sighed deeply.
"Do I have a choice?" He asked in return.
That made Hope smile even wider at him as she grabbed his hand and they raced towards the plane where Launchpad had just started looking over it for its latests repair needs
