A/N: Chapter five up. There will probably be two more chapters, so seven instead of six, but not too much more left. As usual I do not own Tracy Beaker Returns or the Dumping Ground, belongs to CBBC. Just my plot.
Chapter Five: First Admission
Tracy's POV
Mike comes back and sits Harry on the couch. "Alright, so we'll just wiggle and twist, 1,2,3." Mike says.
"Okay…I trust you Mike." Harry says. He sits back on the couch and hugs Jeff close as he opens his mouth.
"Mike! Gina! Tracy!" I startle as I hear Tyler. "I didn't mean to, it was an accident!"
" We were playing football, and Tyler kicked it. Liam got hit, please hurry!" Tee says as she comes in as well followed closely by Carmen.
Harry's eyes are wide as he closes his mouth with a snap.
Mike looks to Harry. "I'm sorry Harry,"
"It's okay…" Harry says. "Help Liam."
I look over to Mike. "It's okay Mike, I'll go see. You can help Harry and catch up."
"No," Harry says. "Jeff's scared. What if the monster got Liam back?"
"Liam will be okay Harry, Mike and Tracy will make sure." Gina reassures.
"Well, that settles it then," Mike nods. "Are you sure you're okay Harry?"
"Yes, go!"
"Alright," Mike stands. "Let's go,"
But before we can, the doorbell rings.
I go to see as Carmen and Tee pull Mike in the direction of the garden.
I open the door to see Jack O'Donovan.
"Tracy...right?" Jack says.
"Yeah, Jack?"
"Good memory, Liam was right." Jack enters, looking properly frazzled. "He's here isn't he? Mike said he might be. You lot were the first I thought to call."
"Yeah, out in the garden. Er...but actually, it's good you got here when you did. Liam's been injured,"
Jack groans. "Seriously Liam…"
"Come on, Mike's already gone out to see what happened."
"I'm so sorry. I really didn't think an appointment would cause this much trouble." Jack says.
"Appointment?" I raise an eyebrow as I walk briskly with Jack out to the garden.
"Yeah, made us dental cleanings, later this afternoon." Jack explains.
Well that's the ticket… I frown. Mike as head care worker or Gina as senior care worker always handled the kids' appointments, but I'd seen some of the fallout if they happened to fall on when I worked. I'd been one of those cases in my day as a Dumping Ground Kid.
"You talked to him about it?" I ask, not accusatory at least I hope.
"Yeah, he seemed alright. At least...I thought so."
"Sounds like Liam," I say. If there was one thing I'd learnt about Liam, it was that you couldn't take his being okay as being okay. There were other things to look for, and we'd missed them.
We finally reach the spot where the kids had been playing. Mike is already there.
"Easy, there, let's go get you cleaned up." Mike is helping Liam to his feet.
"I said I'm alright!" Liam snaps. "My legs aren't broken. I've got it."
Mike notices us. "Tracy, Jack," He sighs.
"I'll get some ice," Johnny says and runs back to the house.
"We'll help," Carmen goes as well along with Tyler and Tee
I notice the only one to linger is Frank, and he won't make eye contact.
Liam blanches as we near.
"Liam!" Jack says. "Oh god, what were you thinking?!"
Silence, and eyes locked on trainers, a bit flinch.
"Can I least have a look...please?" Jack lowers his voice.
Liam lifts his head and we see the damage: a purple bruise, and dried and caked red at his mouth.
"Liam…"I whisper.
"It's not a big deal alright?" Liam says. "Everyone can come off it."
"Oi!" I give Liam a look.
"Well, we still need to get you cleaned up. And have a chat about this. " Mike says.
"Come on, I'll help." Jack tells Liam.
"Fine, but I don't need help." Liam sighs and trudges ahead with his older brother leaving myself, Mike and Frank still in the garden.
"Tracy," Frank speaks as he grabs his football, twirling it in his hands.
"Yeah Frank?" I look over.
"Liam asked me for aspirin and he took two. I'm sorry I didn't tell you earlier."
"You told us now." Mike says. "Thank you Frank."
"You're welcome," Frank replies.
A/N: So the kids asked the care workers for help, and Jack showed up explaining the situation to Tracy and it appears Liam is not taking the idea of dental cleanings too well and he took that medicine for a reason, but now...well he probably won't have a choice in the matter it seems with this injury. Next up: the conversation as Liam explains, Mike provides some insight, Jack has his first real fostering test in comforting his brother and Liam has a request.
