Changing Our Past

Summary

After the 4th Great Ninja War, ninjas are being killed by a rouge ninja, but no one knows who it is. Returning from a mission Naruto, Sakura and Ino discover who the killer is and ordered to put a team together to track and capture him. After the team is assembled, they head out as a team searching for the killer, they soon find useful information in a town, they engage in battle and kills all but Naruto and Ino. When Sakura is killed Naruto and Ino are left devastated and heartbroken and feel like all hope is lost. They vow revenge on the killer and continue to track him, it's not long before they find themselves taking shelter in a cave during a storm that fate smiles on them. They find a lake known as the Lake of Time and use it to head backwards in time, sending them back to when they were seven years old and making them younger in the process. After returning to the past, they vow never to let the future play out like it did before and start to build a whole new future together with a few friends joining them on this journey. NaruInoSakuTen Romance, Lee Neji, Shino and Shikamaru are the other friends in this story with 2 OC pairings, Lemons in Later Chapters, smarter and stronger Naruto, will follow a different timeline when they are sent back in time.

Chapter 1

No P.O.V

It was a month ago when it started, Hiashi Hyuga was found dead in his bedroom in the Hyuga compound with a sword stabbed through his heart, ANBU shown up to investigate the murder but found nothing and had no leads, which slowed the investigation to a crawl. Three days later another murder, but this time bodies were found, the bodies of Sia and Tenten at first it seem like they weren't connected until they found it was the same weapon was used to commit this murders and were was also stabbed through the heart. Three days after that 3 Chunin were found dead, killed in the exact same way, placing the Leaf Village into a state of fear and panic. Over the course of a month murders kept happening and the patten kept changing and every lead kept getting colder, but after a month the murders stopped in the village and spread to the outer towns and villages in the Land of Fire.

When the murders stopping in the Leaf Village life was slowly starting to return to normal and shinobi were being sent out on missions again, Naruto was now in a team with Sakura and Ino and started dating Sakura and had been together for at 4 months now. They were taking it slow and 2 months ago Naruto met her parents and they were finally happy that their daughter found a someone as special as Naruto, to call her own. The three were returning from a mission in the Land of Waves, they were heading home and decided to stop at a hot spring hotel on the way back, the hotel was in a small town and hadn't had a problem with the murderer yet, so even though the murderer hadn't struck yet everyone was still on high alert.

4 Hour Later

The three of them were now having dinner and sitting around talking, the girls weren't annoyed when they heard that Naruto had booked a private spring for the three them to share and to be honest they didn't really mind, since he's the hottest guy in the village at the moment. They were enjoying the food when they heard a scream, it caused the three to stop eating and run out and seen a dead body on the ground, Naruto checked the body and found it was still warm which meant the killer hadn't gone far. It was then that Naruto sensed a chakra signature near by and took of after it, as he got closer the smell of blood was in air and kept getting stronger the closer, he got.

When he was in range of the killer he slowed down and waited to see what would happen next, he was soon joined by Sakura and Ino, the three them slowly moved in on the killer and wanted to surround him quick, but what they saw next stopped the three of them cold. Once they surrounded the killer they shocked to see it was Sasuke covered in blood, Naruto and the girls approached slowly from behind but Ino stepped on a twig and as soon as it snapped Sasuke was facing the three with eyes filled blood lust and sicken evil smirk on his face. The faceoff lasted a few minutes before Naruto broke out of his shock and spoke, "Sasuke-san why, why are you doing this?" He asked his anger growing, "Why are you killing innocent people?"

Sasuke laughed in an evil manner and turned back to Naruto his Sharingan blazing. "Innocent," he said, "none of these people are innocent, the world be better off, if the world was rid of shinobi. All they do is take and kill and it has to stop, I'm going bring in the new age a world of peace without shinobi," he started laughing again.

Naruto went to grab him again, but he jumped out of reach and before they could try again, he detonated the explosion tags he left behind, giving him just enough time to get away. Naruto, Ino and Sakura avoided the explosion and when smoke cleared Sasuke was gone and Naruto couldn't sense his chakra. The three of them were disappointed that couldn't get a hold of Sasuke, but happy that they were all safe and headed back to the hot spring to gather their things and went straight back to the Leaf Village.

5 Hours Later

The three of them had finally got back to the Village after cutting the night at hot spring short, they reported straight to the Hokage, who gave the order for them to form a team to track and capture Sasuke. In the end they pick what was left of the rookie 11 along with Kakashi, Yamato and Anko, since all three of them were currently in the Village. Once they were out Naruto explained the plan and everyone split into their groups and Kakashi summoned his ninja hounds to help with the search.

A Week Later

They had been tracking Sasuke for a week now and the trail had gone completely cold, but luck smiled on them as the killings had stopped. They were given a month to find Sasuke, if not Naruto, Sakura, Ino, Kakashi and Yamato were to continue tracking him until he was captured and brought back to the Leaf Village. Everything was quiet for moment and though they didn't have a lead on Sasuke all killings in the Land of Fire had stopped, but towns and smaller villages remained on high alert.

They were currently following what they thought was another false lead and were heading into the next town, after booking several rooms at the local Inn they went to gather more information. However, all good things most come to and end when Hinata and Kiba were killed talking to a local man, who said he'd seen a man fitting Sasuke description and was also killed so he couldn't pass on more information. Shino and Lee were the one to find them and relayed the information back to the others and they knew that Sasuke was going to pick them of one by one, this meant that would need to stick together now and keep each other safe.

Three Days Later

They kept trying to gather information on Sasuke but he killed them before anyone could inform them of what they knew, meaning he was able to keep one step ahead of them at all time and the trail just kept getting colder. However, they kept tracking him not knowing that they were being watched from the shadows and now it was perfect time to strike. Sasuke jumped from the trees and sliced Lee and Neji in two without being seen, moving at speeds faster than any of them could use.

Seconds later he took down Choji and Shino, with little to no effort and not being seen. Naruto was now pissed Sasuke had now killed 8 of his friends and planned on taking down all of them. It was now he decided to show himself, the moment he was in front he began with his sickening evil laugh. "YOU BASTARD," Naruto yelled in anger, "HOW COULD YOU DO THIS THOSE WERE OUR FRIENDS, THEY EVEN REMAINED FRIENDS WITH YOU AFTER YOU BETRAYED THE VILLAGE HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO THEM?"

"I told you, my goal is to rid the world of all Shinobi," he said a smirk coming to his face, "and if I have to kill my friends to achieve it then I will," he just began laughing again, "but it would be much easier if you just forgot about that when I kill you it would be so much easier."

Naruto jumped at him and performed the Kage Bushin no Jutsu and charged a Rasengan and was able to hit him straight in the chest, Sasuke did try and jump out of the way but found he couldn't move as had held in the Kagemane no Jutsu that Shikamaru used to trap him and released it last at the last second to stop it from injuring him as well. Sakura tried charging at Sasuke with her chakra in fused fist to punch him straight in the chest, but he blocked it with his sword and sent her flying into Ino, he got back to his feet and in a second was behind Shikamaru and pierced right through the back with a Chidori to his heart killing him as well. He was about to run but found that he was now trapped in wood coming from Yamato's arm, to stop him escaping.

Sasuke was struggling but a smirk came across his face as he stopped, a moment later the wood shattered as Sasuke broke free. Sasuke then charged Yamato and pierced him through the heart with another Chidori.He tried to escape again but was surrounded by several of Naruto Kage Bushin's, each of them teamed up and charged 12 Rasengan's, but he vanished and was behind Sakura. This time however he pulled out his sword and stabbed her through the stomach and began laughing when he pulled it out, he then punched Ino out of the way as she tried reaching Sakura to help her. He then appeared in front of Kakashi and Anko without even flinching them both slicing both in half and turned back to Naruto and smirked as he seen him now holding Sakura.

He went to charge Naruto and collapsed to his knees feeling that he was close to using all his chakra, he had to make a decision continue the fight and die, or run and kill them both later and as soon he saw Naruto activate his Sage Mode he ran knowing that he'd have to kill him another time. "You're lucky I'm almost out of chakra," he said smirking, "but don't worry you'll be joining your friends soon enough," then Shunshin'd away leaving Ino and Naruto grieving over their friends.

5 Hours Later

Naruto and Ino had sealed all their friends in scrolls, so they could be returned to the village and be buried in their Clan's or Family's tomb, which is what each of them would have wanted. Ino sealed all but Sakura as Naruto refused to let go of her, it was only after Ino and he grieved that they were able to seal her body and vowed revenge on Sasuke, they were going to kill him and do him the ultimate dishonour and bury him in an unmarked grave away from the Uchiha's resting place.

4 Days Later

They had been tracking Sasuke and were now passing through a mountainous part of the Land of Fire but were losing him due to a storm approaching. They were hoping to get through that terrain before the storm hit, but luck wasn't on their side and the storm hit and the two of them took shelter in a cave. They planned on waiting until the storm past, so stayed close to the entrance until they realised that the storm was coming in and decided to see if it would flood the cave.

They followed the way the water was flowing and came to a lake with an emerald green glow, that had the 2 of them amazed, but also felt an amazing power coming it. "What is that?" Ino asked in shock.

"That is the Lake of Time," said a voice behind them, "it can be used to change your past and shape your future," this caused them to turn around and see the person talking to them.

"S… S… Sak… Sakura," they stammered in unison not believing their friend was still alive.

"No, I am just the spirit guardian of the lake, I just took this form as way to calm you," the spirit says.

"Okay," they both in unison again.

"So, do you wish to change your past?" The spirit asked, "by doing so you can change the course of history, even change the past further than you've gone."

"You mean we can bring Sakura back to life?" Naruto asked.

"Not just Sakura, but all our friends?" Ino asked hoping it was true.

"Yes, some people who died even further back than you've travelled could still be alive," said the spirit.

"Is there a chance, that people will still die?" Naruto asked.

"Yes, what is destined to happen will still happen that will not change," The spirit says.

"So, I may still not have my family," Naruto says in a sad tone.

"But remember Naruto, you'll have me and your friends looking out for you," Ino says then turns to the spirit, "will we still have our memory if we go back."

"Yes, your memories will also be slightly altered, to a line with the new timeline," the spirit says, "so, the question is now are you going to go back or not."

"I am," Naruto says, "I need to save Sakura."

"And I'm going with you," Ino says, "you can't do this alone, now what do we have to do?"

"First you must remove all your clothing before you enter the lake," says the spirit, and before nod and began undressing in front of each guessing they'd probably not be doing it for a while and then walked into the lake, "now you must hold each other and channel chakra throughout your body then the lake will take you back in time," both of them did as they were told and began channelling chakra throughout their bodies, "just one more thing before you leave, this world will collapse and the lake will move to a new location in the world, also some people maybe able to gain their memories from this life, but the connection they have with you must be strong enough," and with those final words the two were enveloped by a large orb of chakra, as the world around them began to collapse and the two were sent backwards through time, not knowing what the new world would hold for them.

10 Years Ago

Naruto P.O.V

I woke-up in my room of my old apartment, I looked around noticed it was just like had when I was 7 years old. That meant I had gone back at least 10 years and rolled over and looked at the calendar, turns out we have gone back 10 years 4 months and we started the academy a year ago meaning I'm now dead last again, not cool spirit. "Kit, wait," Ahri says in her human form.

"What is it Ahri-chan?" I asked surprised.

"Good news and bad news," she says, "first the bad news you have lost Sage Mode and the ability to use my power correctly, so your much weaker than you used to be, now the good news you can still use the Rasengan and a few other jutsu and that's a relief and be ready for this, YOUR MOTHER IS STILL ALIVE, I can sense her chakra."

At this I was shocked and I couldn't move, I was stood in shock and even tried moving but my body kept betraying me, a smile formed on my face, I finally had a family and I was going to find her no matter what.

20 Minutes Later

20 minutes had passed, and I was finally broken from my thoughts by a knock on my door, I snapped out of my shock and headed downstairs to see who was at the door. Ino was stood the and the moment it was open she threw her arms around me pulling me into a hug which I returned. Once she pulled back smiling, "It worked," she says excitedly, "but we have a few problems."

"Yeah, some the jutsu we learned as well as powers we had are now gone, but I have some amazing news," I say pulling her inside, "Ino-chan, my mother is still alive in this timeline," and she is stunned to silence.

She slowly came out of her shock a moment later, "OH MY GOD," she yells pulling me into another hug.

"I know I can't believe it, I finally get to have a family," I say breaking the hug, "now we have to come up with a plan on how we are going to handle matters, because last time I kept a lot of information to myself due to the starting when I learned then the Teme went on a killing spree, I never had time to tell people," and she nods.

"I agree, lets have some breakfast and talk," she says, and I nod in agreement heading upstairs.

"You do know I might not have much in," I say, "I'm constantly overcharged at stores, so I only have a few pots of instant Ramen," as we walked up to the apartment.

"It's okay Naruto-kun, I'm sure it won't kill me to eat ramen for breakfast once," she says smiling as we walked into the kitchen together.

I walked over to cupboards and stunned to see it full of food like cereal, noodles, pasta and rice, I then walk over to the fridge and stunned further as I see it full with meats like bacon, chicken, sausages, there's also eggs and milk. "Nothing in, yeah right Naruto-kun this place is packed with food," Ino says going through the cupboards.

"Ino-chan, this is a completely different timeline," I say, "I'm either using a Henge or people actually treat me right in this timeline," and she nods agreeing with what I was saying.

"Yeah, let's cook some breakfast then we talk well we eat," she says, and we get out the eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns and start cooking.

25 Minutes Later

I finished setting the table and Ino came over with 2 plates full of food and placed them down, we both sat down and began eating. As we ate, we talked about who we should tell about what we know and the first person to come to mind was Jiji, since we don't want him to die like that all over again. We also had a plan on how to prevent it but we also want him to agree to it, we had a list of 6 people that could do it and 3 who shouldn't for different reasons, it would also make the group to big and lack in strength waiting for the other 3 to catch up.

We finished eating and I did the washing up since Ino helped cook it, once I was done spoke and finally agreed on what to do. After that I went and got a shower and dressed and not in my orange jumpsuit since I no longer have one and was beginning to think something strange was going on, instead was dressed in black ANBU pants, blue sandals, a plain white t-shirt and black jacket and looked myself over in the mirror. "Looking good, kit," Ahri says approving of what I'm wearing.

"Thanks, Ahri-chan," I say heading back into the living room and we left.

As we walked, we spoke, "Naruto-kun, remember when the spirit told us our memories would be slightly altered to fit this timeline mine haven't and from the look of it neither have yours," Ino says and I nod.

"Yeah, I noticed," I say as we continued to walk along, "and people here aren't glaring at me like they used to," and she looks around shocked.

"Then we also need to find out what happened here, since this timeline is different from what we know," she says as we reached the Hokage Tower.

Before we go in I pull Ino to one side wanting to know if she would agree to what I was about to ask, "Ino-chan before we go in I want to ask you something," I say and she nods, "well, in Uzushiogakure there's a scroll that can change peoples blood line to the Uzumaki bloodline if they sign it, I was wondering if you would like to join my clan?"

I see her thinking it over for a few minutes, "what would it cost me to join?" She asked hoping it wasn't much.

"You'll just have to give up your current bloodline jutsu, in exchange the scroll will transfer the Uzumaki jutsu into your body and change your bloodline," I say and she nods in understanding, "it also gives you a dojutsu, that can help you improve further than you could before."

"I'll have to think it over and talk to my parents, since I'm a clan heir I can't just give that up, and since I'm an only child I'm the only one who can do it," she says and I nod knowing she'd have to think about it.

After that little talk, we head inside and went straight to the office and knocked on the door, "Enter," a voice from the other side says and head inside.

"Naruto-kun my boy good to see you," says Hiruzen smile, "and you to Ino-san, now what can I do for you both?"

"Well, we need to talk to you about something important, plus we would also like some information from you if that's okay?" I asked and he nods, "Okay, first can you send all your ANBU except for Neko-chan away," and he nods and sends the others away.

"Okay, Naruto-kun are you going to tell me what this is about?" He asked and I nod.

"Well this maybe hard to believe, but Ino and I have been sent back in time and our minds have been placed in a our younger selves," I say and he nods, "the reason we came back was because after the war, Sasuke Uchiha goes on a killing spree trying to rid the world of Shinobi, on top that a lot of people we care about are killed along the way and we hope to change our past so everyone could have a better future."

Ino then spoke up, "if wasn't for Naruto-kun a load more people would be dead we want to make sure that changing past still gives them there future and we have a plan to do that which is why we want you to hear us out before you decide."

"Okay, will anyone else have to be present for this or is it this just for me?" He asked wondering about our plan.

"The decision yours, but if think it would be smart to have the other people we want tgo know about this around then you can send for them," I say and he nods and thinks it over for a few minutes.

"Okay, who are they?" He asked and we gave him a list, "Neko please go and get them they should be in the academy right now," and with that she's gone and comes back with the 6 people we mentioned.
