"Anna?!" Kristoff called, his voice cracking. "Anna?!"
The blond mountaineer bit his lip, hard. A thin line of blood leaked from it, but he paid no mind to the pain. Just how early of a start had Anna gotten? Was she already lost? Had she gone too far?
As he was lost in thought, Kristoff stumbled into to a rocky shoreline. The chill of the air brought him back to full attention and he jumped with a shiver. "Anna!" he called, alarm filling him with dread as he recognized where he was. "Anna! Answer me! Please!"
That's when he heard the splash.
Without thinking, instinct took over, and Kristoff dove in after her. Anna, thinking that she could swim through the water and not having foreknowledge of how cold it really was, gasped, no longer able to breathe. Kristoff pushed on, denying his limbs the freedom to lock from the cold. Adrenaline was completely in control as he pulled the princess's unconscious body out of the water, crawling back onto the shore.
His own breathing shallow, Kristoff gave Anna cpr, praying that she was still alive. At first, it didn't seem to work, but just as he was about to give up, the love of his life opened her eyes, coughing up excess water. Kristoff heaved a sigh of relief, falling onto the ground in exhaustion. He had pushed his muscles to the max, and now was finally feeling the sore numbness.
"K-Kristoff?" Anna mumbled, turning her head to stare at him. "W-what are you doing here?"
Kristoff ignored her question, pushing himself up to a sitting position. "Anna, what were you thinking?! That water is just above freezing point; that was dangerous!"
Anna sat up as well, staring at the shoreline. "I wanted to go to Attahollan. I needed to find her."
Kristoff followed her gaze as it rose to the island in the distance. While what she did was stupid, he was relieved that she hadn't jumped in for another reason. "Love⦠C'mere."
Anna crawled into Kristoff's open arms, his hand immediately moving up to run through her hair, which was soaked from the water, and that's where they stayed, just holding onto each other, cuddled against the cold.
