Hey, everybody. Back with another chapter.

So, this will cover the post rescue mission stuff. Hope you like it.

Let's get to it.

Chapter 12- Hijacked

I stare at the opposite wall, trying to keep my thoughts off Gale, Castor, and Peeta. I know in my heart, that with Gale having the Iron Man suit, and Castor having the Ant-Man suit, they'll be fine. But it still doesn't stop me from worrying. Beside me, Finnick is playing with a rope, trying to keep his mind off things.

Suddenly, the door into the compartment opens. We look up, and see Haymitch lean in and say simply, "They're back."

Finnick and I leap up and follow Haymitch down to the hospital. As we enter, I look around, and hear a familiar voice. I run towards the sound of the voice, and see Johanna, wearing a hospital gown and completely bald, trying to get rid of the doctors around her. She pulls something off her face and looks at me with an arrogant smirk on her face. As I look at her, I can see how malnourished she is.

"Johanna," I manage to say in shock, hardly able to reconcile the person before me with the woman I met in the Quarter Quell.

Then, I hear a woman's voice call out, "Finnick! Finnick!" I turn and see a red haired woman running towards Finnick.

"Annie?" Finnick says as he realizes she's here, then he starts running towards her as he says in relief, "Annie! Annie!" The two reach each other and throw their arms around each other. They hold that tight embrace before pulling back slightly to allow them to kiss.

I glance around, and right then I notice Gale a few yards away, still wearing the suit, but I'm a little surprised to see it's a new version I haven't seen before.

"Gale!" I cry out in relief and hurry up to him. I give him a hug, which he accepts, although it's slightly more awkward with him wearing the suit. However, as we pull away from each other, I see the look in his eyes, and feel confused. "What? What is it?" I ask.

"I don't get it. Every gun and missile was back online and locked on us, and they didn't fire on us before I blew them up. They let us go," Gale says.

I look at him in confusion, but also apprehension. Gale knows what's on my mind, and he gestures to a door with his head as he says, "He's in there. Gas we used on the guards knocked him out too, but it's wearing off now. You should be there when he wakes up."

I embrace Gale again and whisper, "Thank you." I then turn to Boggs and thank him as well before I make my way towards the room. I run up to the door and pull it open, Haymitch right behind me.

Instantly, I freeze. The young man in the room is sitting on the medical table with his back to me as doctors measure his vitals, but I know who he is.

"Peeta," I breathe out. Instantly, Peeta stiffens and straightens up a bit.

I slow walk around him until finally, I see his face. I don't stop until I'm right in front of him, my emotions churning and constantly changing inside me as I look at him. He's so badly bruised and beaten. I don't even want to know all of what the Capitol has done to him.

For so long, me and my other teammates have discussed needing Peeta back so that he could become the next Captain America. But now that he's here in front of me, the Avengers are far from my thoughts. All I can think of is that Peeta is free and sitting right in front of me.

I slowly take a step forward, opening my mouth to say something, though I don't even know what.

Before I can do anything, and without any warning, Peeta suddenly lunges for me, grabbing me by the throat and slamming me into a glass cabinet behind me before we tumble to the ground and he pins me to the ground, trying to choke me. My eyes are wide and pleading with him, but he mercilessly keeps trying to choke me.

"Peeta!" I hear Haymitch yell, right before a doctor and Haymitch lunge forward and try to pull Peeta off of me. In the process, I'm also pulled to my feet.

Peeta quickly throws Haymitch and the doctor away, then again pins me to the floor, trying to choke me. I can feel myself begin to pass out. But, right before my eyes close, I see Castor grow out of nowhere and punch Peeta, knocking him flying off of me.

(Hours later)

I slowly begin to come to. As I slowly open my eyes, I begin to make sense of my surroundings. It doesn't take me long to realize that I'm lying on a hospital bed, and there's something around my neck.

My breathing gets faster as I start to freak out slightly. I start lifting my hands up to whatever is around my neck. Suddenly, Boggs appears out of nowhere, and says, "No, Katniss, you're swollen. Don't touch it. No, calm down."

My breathing eases up a bit, and I try to calm myself dwon as Boggs turns and asks a nurse to alert the others that I'm awake.

As Boggs looks back at me, I try to ask where Peeta is, but I instantly realize something is wrong with my voice. At the same time, Boggs says, "No, don't try to talk. Peeta's fine, I promise. Castor was in the room the whole time, shrunk down. He had to get Peeta off you. He didn't really hurt him."

My breathing and anxiety eases somewhat, but I still feel very anxious. Despite wanting to ask questions, I stay quiet.

Within a few minutes, a group of people, comprising my mother, Prim, Beetee, Haymitch, Plutarch, Robert, and Vision enter the room. After they all sit down, everyone is quiet before Plutarch speeks up.

"It's called hijacking. We don't know how long the Capitol has been doing this to Peeta," Plutarch says.

"It's fear conditioning. Enhanced with tracker jacker venom. You were stung your first Games, remember?" Beetee asks. I simply nod slightly to answer his question.

Beetee begins explaining. "The venom puts the subject in a dissociative state. They torture him, with shock and beatings. They break down his identity, and then all that suffering and fear is redirected. Associated with other memories or a person."

"They can change his memories of Katniss?" Prim asks.

"To make her seem life threatening," Beetee says. I glance over at him, fearful and hardly able to believe that.

"I knew that rescue was to easy. They turned him into a weapon to kill you, Katniss. I think, if we hadn't launched that mission, they would have set him loose eventually or even dropped him off somewhere where he could be picked up, already programmed to murder you. I can't believe I didn't see this sooner," Robert says.

"But you can reverse it," Prim says hopefully.

"The fear is the most difficult thing to overcome. We're hardwired to remember fear best," Beetee says.

"It's new terrain. But, we've put together a team. I'm optimistic," Plutarch says.

"We'll do all we can to get Peeta back, Katniss. In the meantime, I'll continue my work. Cressida is due to have her procedure to give her the powers of Spider Man tomorrow, and I'll be talking to Johanna about her becoming the She-Hulk once she's feeling a bit better. Also, the new Black Panther has been wanting to see you. I'll send him to come visit you sometime in the next couple days," Robert says. I just look back at him.

(Hours later)

Coin walks up to the microphone, looking out over the assembled population of 13. She waits for the applause to die down. Once it finally does, she begins to speak, "Good evening. Yesterday, I authorized a covert rescue mission inside the Capitol. I am pleased to announce, that, through the efforts of our own soldiers and members of the New Avengers, the victors have been liberated!"

Everyone begins to cheer, especially at hearing the news about the New Avengers taking part in the mission. Pretty much everyone in 13 knew about the New Avengers by now, although the word had still not gotten out to the rest of Panem.

"Let this day mark an historic change. With the Mockingjay, the victors, and the New Avengers beside us, we have sent a clear message to the Capitol: That we will never again endure injustice," Coin declares, which is greeted by more applause.

"Today, a day on which we reunited family, friends, and loved ones, let all of Panem come together. Not to battle for the amusement of the Capitol, but to join hands in this fight." More applause.

"Let today be the day we promise never to give up, never to give in until we have made a new Panem. Where leaders are elected, not imposed upon us, and where the districts are free to share the fruits of their labors, and not fight one another for scraps." More applause.

"This new Panem is on the horizon, but we must take it for ourselves. The road there leads through the sharp mountains and deep ravines of District 2. There, in the heart of Panem's steepest mountain range lies the Capitol's principal military facility. We can conquer this stronghold, because we are one people. One army. One voice. Because today is our new beginning. Today we have freed the victors. Tomorrow…Panem!"

Everyone cheers and claps even louder, then begin chanting "Hoorah!" over and over. All the while, Vision watches the proceedings, watching President Coin intently. Despite her determination to bring down the Capitol, and her seeming concern, Vision senses there is something off about her. While he does not feel emotions the same way humans do, he feels that the Mind Stone is picking up on her thoughts, and perhaps warning him.

Yes, he'll be watching Coin closely.

And, I'll end there. Hope you liked that chapter.

So, Vision has gotten suspicious of Coin. That'll come into play again later.

Also, I will remind everyone reading this story. I will be having President Snow make his own versions of Marvel villains to fight the New Avengers. Essentially his own Masters of Evil. I've already decided on Whiplash and Crimson Dynamo, but I want a team of 8 to 10 in total. So, I'm going to list below all the other villains I'm considering. Please leave a review and tell me your top 6 votes for which ones you want to see recreated.

Here's the candidates: Abomination, Beetle, Yellowjacket, Blizzard, Boomerang, Bullseye, Count Nefaria, Doctor Octopus, Electro, Grim Reaper, Green Goblin, Hydro Man, Lizard, MODOK, Man Ape, Mandarin, Sabretooth, Sandman, EXTREMIS soldiers, Sebastian Shaw, the U-Foes, Vulture, and Crossbones.

Alright. Next chapter will be up probably sometime late next week or the week after, once I'm done with finals. Until then, please, please leave a review, and stay tuned!
