The following night couldn't come quick enough for Layken. All day the Potter boys had been acting very shifty and Layken was even more worried than she had previously been. Layken and Draco were headed to Snape's office when they found Professor Quirrell lurking in the corridor.
"Are you okay?" Layken asked and the man jumped in fright not having heard them.
"Y-Yes quite alright Mi-Miss P-Potter." He smiled shakily, turning on his heel and stalking off down the corridor.
"That was... strange." Draco commented, watching the retreating teachers back.
The pair shared a look before Layken wrapped on Snape's door, announcing their arrival.
"Enter."
Layken pushed the door open gently far enough for her and Draco to squeeze inside before closing it again with a soft click. Snap gestured with his arm to the two seats directly in front of his desk. Draco held a chair out for Layken and she thanked him before he took his own seat.
"What would you like to know?" Snape asked.
"Well, what exactly is the Philosopher's Stone?"
Snape sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"The Philosopher's Stone was made by a wizard named Nicholas Flamel. It can turn any metal into pure gold and it produces the Elixir of Life. This makes the drinker immortal."
"What do those two dolts want with a stone that makes someone immortal?" Draco asked.
"I don't think they know that the stone is what's hidden in the corridor." Layken replied.
"No I don't think they do." Snape commented.
"Are there spells and enchantments and stuff protecting the stone? Surely Dumbledore wouldn't just leave it to be discovered." Layken asked.
"Every teacher has provided something to keep the stone protected. It is extremely well protected but that doesn't mean that those two don't know how to get to it."
"Surely not? How would two eleven year olds be able to pass protections put in place by teachers at this school?" Draco asked.
"I don't know, but it seems those two have been very lucky in life, maybe it would be worth keeping an eye on them." Snape replied.
"Thank you Professor." Layken smiled, getting to her feet.
"Anything you need Miss Potter." Snape smiled back.
Draco held the door for Layken as they walked the few paces from Snape's classroom to the common room.
"Well? What's going on?" Blaise asked when they joined their friends.
The pair then recounted their conversation with Snape, sparing no details.
"We'll help you keep watch." Gracie spoke up.
"Yeah those two won't get away with anything." Theo replied.
"I just hope you're right" Layken spoke under her breath.
This whole thing had Layken more than a little nervous. There was only one person that she knew who would need the stone, someone who wanted to be immortal. What she couldn't understand was why her siblings wanted into the corridor? What did they want if not the stone?
