A/N: I had sooooo much fun writing this haha. I have 7 chapters already written, and I'm working on the 8th. I promise I'll finish it this time because I actually have a plan for it and tons of time. I'd also love feedback on what I've done wrong. I'm not british, so if I mess up any terms I deeply apologize.
Summary: Draco knows he doesn't deserve Harry Potter as his boyfriend, yet he stayed. He has to suffer, and when he finally ends that suffering it gets worse...
Warnings: This is veryyyy gay. It's not got any smut, but the kissing is more detailed than I usually write it. It's also Drarry so… if you don't like it, this is not the fic for you. This is also veryyy sad...
Broken Fragments:
Chapter 1: A broken boy
The stars gleamed, lighting up those beautiful green eyes Draco loved to gaze into so much. They reflected the full moon, and a single tear fell down from them. Draco hugged Harry closer in a comforting matter. He knew what Harry was thinking about. It was so obvious.
"He no longer has to suffer the full moon now…" Draco whispered into Harry's ear consolingly.
"I know, It just hurts to be reminded of him…" Harry whispered back.
Everything about Harry made him full to the brim of happiness. He felt so lucky and fortunate to have him by his side. He never wanted to let go. Draco kissed Harry's cheek lightly.
"I understand. I'm here for you, okay?" Draco gave Harry a reassuring smile when those Green eyes peered into his Grey.
Harry rested his head on Draco's shoulder, and closed those eyes. Draco ran his hands through Harry's messy black locks. Harry's breath began to slow down, and he snored loudly. Draco removed Harry's glasses from his face. Draco chuckled and scooped Harry up in his arms before apparating back to Harry's flat.
He placed Harry in his bed and kissed his boyfriend's forehead. Harry looked so peaceful asleep like that, the vision of an angel… a very loud angel. Draco chuckled lightly and carressed Harry's face. He stared lovingly at him. Draco didn't even mind the loud snoring.
Harry stirred a little and Draco whispered "Go back to sleep, Harry… I love you,"
"Love you too…" Harry mumbled back before growing quiet again and snoring even louder.
Draco kissed Harry one last time before apparating back to their abandoned picnic. He slowly cleaned it up, while rethinking the date.
He would have to get a Pensieve so he could cherish the memories in detail. He knew he wasn't worth Harry, so he would forever remember every detail of their time together. He had to cherish it. He had to hold on to his happiness for when Harry would realize that Draco didn't deserve his greatness.
Draco knew he'd always love Harry. He also knew Harry wouldn't ever love Draco as much as Draco loved Harry. It was virtually impossible for anyone to care about Draco that much.
It used to scare him, how bad he had it for Harry. But when Harry started to feel attraction towards him, Draco allowed himself to stop repressing it. Harry used his Gryffindor bravery to confess, and his way with words that he was so unaware of to convince Draco to date him.
Draco was wary at first, as he knew that it would end in pain. But Draco decided that he needed to taste those lips at least once, he needed to be allowed to express those feelings once. He was done suppressing his emotions. So, 6 months ago - 2 months before graduation from eighth year- they became secret boyfriends. It was bliss.
Draco bought that Pensieve right after he put the things from their picnic into his box of memories. He extracted the memory of their date and watched it once before going to bed.
Harry giggled from the memories of their date the night prior. He couldn't believe it, Draco Malfoy was his boyfriend… Had been for months. He wanted everyone to know. He wanted to scream it out to the world. At first, he had been opposed to the idea; but now, now it just seemed right.
He was going to spend the rest of his life with Draco, he was sure of it. Draco was so perfect and amazing Harry would feel fortunate to just be friends with him. Now he knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Draco. Maybe he could propose… The idea floated around his head. It was perfect.
But he needed to tell Ron and Hermione. Then it hit him, Ron and Hermione didn't even know they were dating let alone that he wanted to marry Draco Bloody Malfoy. He needed to tell them.
He knew it would be difficult. He decided that he would tell Hermione first, as he had a feeling she'd take it better. Then he'd tell Ron with Draco and Hermione. He needed Draco's opinion on this though. Draco may not want to tell Hermione and Ron, but Harry would convince him.
Harry turned over on his bed and decided to make breakfast and talk about it next time he saw Draco. He made tea and pancakes. He drowned them in maple syrup and laughed at how canadian he was acting.
After breakfast he took a shower and changed into his Auror robes for work. When he Apparated into his office, he greeted Ron with a smile.
"Oi mate!" Ron said as Harry entered their office.
"Hello," Harry said, and yawned, he was still a bit tired from his late-night date with Draco.
"Did you stay up doing paperwork again?" Ron asked and when Harry nodded he continued "Be glad Hermione hasn't noticed your tiredness, she'd probably give you a whole talk about how sleep is important."
Harry scoffed and looked at the newest file that Robards had given them. There weren't too many interesting things, just the everyday crime.
"Harry… are you really doing work when you stay up late?" Ron said after a couple of minutes of silence.
Harry's eyes widened involuntarily, and he gulped. He wasn't ready to tell Ron about Draco yet. He looked up from the paperwork after he took a second to feign amusement.
"What else would I be doing late at night, Ron? You do realise I have literally no social life at all." Harry chuckled.
"Well, I've been thinking…" Ron sighed somewhat dramatically "Do you have a girlfriend you're not telling us about? I mean, it's been so long since Ginny, and you've been so… so happy and it's strange."
"No, I do not have a 'secret girlfriend'" Harry used air-quotes and Ron raised his eyebrow "I'm just happy with the way life is right now, with my job and I got a new owl so… yeah."
"So you haven't been staying up late with a girlfriend… you've been staying up late playing with your owl!" Ron exclaimed and Harry chuckled.
"You caught me," Harry sighed dramatically.
They both burst into a bout of laughter before getting to work. Harry smiled at this easy conversation they had. He really cared about Ron, and appreciated Ron's loyalty. Harry just hoped that Ron would stay with him even when he found out about Draco.
"I wonder what Malfoy's up too…" Ron interrupted his thoughts.
"Well, last I heard of him was the prophet when he got that job at St. Mungo's," Harry commented "and I heard he got Dennis Creevey back to health after the Auror Training incident."
Harry remembered how Dennis Creevey had broken almost all the bones in his body after he fell a 50 foot drop off a broom during training.
"But that was 2 months ago, there hasn't been anything new recently. Anyways, who would trust Malfoy to heal them?" Ron asked.
Harry rolled his eyes then said "Malfoy was innocent, Ron."
"Only because you testified for him," Ron pointed out.
"I testified for him because he was innocent. He was just born into the wrong family."
"How can you forgive him that easily?"
"Because I'd rather not hold resentment towards him. I'm done hating people. I just don't like holding grudges."
"At least you're not friends with him, that'd be so awkward right?"
"Right…"
Harry had to stifle his laughter. If only Ron knew…
"I bet he's still a git,"
"How about you find that out for yourself."
Maybe if Ron and Draco could be friends, Ron wouldn't be so opposed to the idea of them dating. Hopefully.
"Erm… I don't really think that's a good idea. He'd probably hate me…"Harry gave him a questioning look and Ron sighed. Harry just turned back to his work. That was when Robards came in and gave them instructions to go chase after a former death-eater that had been hexing muggles. Harry apparated to the coordinates, adrenaline pumping as he chased after the culprit.
Yes, life was perfect for him. He was dating the man of his dreams, he had his dream job, and amazing friends. He only hoped it would last.
Harry smiled as he peered into Draco's silver eyes. He was so up close he could admire the small specks of blue and gold found in those depths. Harry leaned in and pressed his lips lightly to Draco's, then Draco pressed them back harder. He gasped even though he was expecting it, he wrapped his arm around Draco's shoulders and melted into the kiss.
He couldn't help but fall in love with Draco all over again. He was just so amazing. Being a great kisser was definitely a plus to this. Then Draco licked Harry's lips, and Harry knew he wanted him to open his mouth. Harry waited a couple of seconds, wanting to tease him. But then Draco pouted and he opened his mouth to let Draco's tongue explore his mouth.
Harry did the same, and he knew Draco's mouth like the back of his hand. It still felt so amazing though. He tasted the chocolate and mint ice cream they had been eating and he hummed happily at the taste.
When they pulled apart for air Harry grinned widely. Draco was smiling prettily and Harry felt so amazed that he got to see this side of Draco. This was not the prat he grew up with, this was the person Harry loved most in the world. Draco, not Malfoy. Harry wanted his friends to know. He wanted the whole world to know.
"I was thinking, maybe we could tell Ron and Hermione about our relationship." Harry said slowly.
Draco's eyes widened in surprise, he didn't know whether it was good or bad. Harry hoped it was the former.
"I mean if you want to… but, I don't want you to get hurt." Draco murmured.
"I'm positive they'll accept us Draco. Hermione will definitely be okay with it, Ron will probably be unsure at first but I know he'll come around." Harry said confidently.
"I know, but, I know that Weasley is very… I don't know how to explain it… He's just… He's good for you, and I'd hate to see you lose him." Draco explained.
"But aren't you worried about losing me?" Harry asked, suddenly offended.
"If it comes to choosing between us, pick him." Draco's voice was barely a whisper and Harry could see the pain in his eyes.
"I could never pick betwee-" Harry started.
"I don't want you to lose him, and then when you realise I'm not good enough you lose everything. Pick him."
Harry's eyes widened. Did Draco really believe he wasn't good enough? He had no idea. No wonder Draco always acted as if it could end in any minute. He really believed it would.
"Draco… You are more than good enough. Your everything, and I could never leave you. I love you so much." Harry told Draco, as he hugged him tightly.
Harry stopped hugging him for a second to peck him on the lips, and Draco smiled weakly.
"The problem is, I love you so much more…" Draco's whisper was barely audible, but Harry heard it.
"The good thing is, I'll never have to choose. I have full confidence Ron will accept me." Harry said.
"Okay, let's tell them."
Harry kissed Draco another time, and hugged him close. Harry smiled brightly, and wiped Draco's tears away. Those tear-stained cheeks made him practically melt. He pressed his lips against those tear-stained cheeks.
They sat in that silence for a while, just holding each other close. Harry hoped that Draco would see that he dreamed of a future with him. Harry hoped Draco would stop being so insecure. Didn't he see how perfect he was? Didn't Draco know how badly he loved him. Maybe he didn't.
That's why Harry decided that after he told his friends, he was going to propose to Draco and those insecurities would dissipate. Draco would realise that they were meant to be. Nothing could stop Harry then.
"I do love you, Draco. I don't think I'll ever stop."
"I wish I could believe you…"
"One day you'll see." Harry chuckled then continued "When we're 80 and married you'll wake up and realise that I will love you for eternity."
Draco laughed, but Harry could tell it was false. If only he could make Draco believe.
"Maybe…"
"It will happen. I'm positive."
Harry pressed his lips on Draco's lightly. He gazed into those silver eyes. They were full of insecurities, and pearly tears fell from them. Draco started full-on sobbing. He was trembling and all Harry could do was hold him close. Then Harry had an idea.
Harry scooted over and sat right on Draco's lap. Draco looked confused for a second, but then started clinging to Harry while he started muttering. Harry soothed him by whispering that it was going to be alright over and over again.
"If… you really love me… you've fallen in love with someone who is broken…" Draco choked out through sobs.
"Draco, everyone has insecurities. We can work through them. I know this amazing mind healer that helped me after the war, do you want me to owl her? She can help." Harry suggested.
"I-I guess."
Harry gave Draco a reassuring smile, and let Draco continue crying. Harry ran his fingers through Draco's soft blond hair. He smiled at the softness.
"Your hair… is so soft!" Harry burst out, and Draco looked at him with a quizzical expression.
Harry gave him an apologetic look then Draco burst out laughing. Harry grinned widely, and Draco gave him his beautiful smile. His eyes were gleaming with mirth and love. So much love in those silver depths. Love that only Harry got from him.
Harry felt so amazed at that thought. Only Harry would feel that love directed at him. A surge of protectiveness shot through him. He whispered that Draco was his and only his into his ear. Draco smiled even brighter at that.
Harry placed his glasses on the grass before resting his head against Draco's firm chest, and closed his eyes. He clung to Draco and drifted off to sleep.
"Why would I ever love you? Honestly Draco… You believed that I actually cared about you that way?" Harry's voice boomed through the darkness.
Draco was small compared to the menacing figure of Harry. Draco squeaked and tears brimmed his eyes. He drowned in them.
"I never loved you," The voice shouted as he began to drown.
The tears turned blood red, and a voice called his name. It was Harry's voice and it was soft. Draco reached towards it, trying to reach it.
"Draco" the voice called and Draco could hear the fondness in it.
Draco opened his eyes when he reached the top of the blood-water.
"Draco…" a voice whispered in his ear as he opened his eyes.
He saw a pair of bright green eyes behind unruly glasses. Draco blinked away tears he hadn't realised he had been crying.
"Good morning, looks like we fell asleep." Harry said chuckling.
"Can we go back to sleep…" Draco moaned.
"Nope Draco, I'm going to put everything away and then we'll go to your flat." Harry chuckled, and lifted Draco's head out of his lap.
Draco glared at him then after a second he said "But my roommate is probably home right now."
"Well then we'll go to my flat." Harry conceded.
"And sleep all day?" Draco suggested.
They didn't have work, so Draco wasn't worried. He hoped Harry would say yes. He knew that he was clingy, but he couldn't help it. If Harry didn't like it, he would leave him. That idea hurt him. Draco severely hoped that Harry didn't hate that flaw.
Harry chuckled, and Draco smiled. Draco felt reassured by that laugh. He knew that it was too good to be true.
Suddenly he felt something slytherin up his leg. Draco stared at his leg to see a white snake making his way up his leg. He glared at the thing, and Harry chuckled. Harry hissed a few things and the snake hissed back. Harry laughed loudly and Draco gave them a perplexed look. Was Harry talking behind his back?
"What is it saying?" Draco asked.
"Umm… That doesn't concern you." Harry said and then hissed something else to the snake.
Draco stared at the snake and back at Harry, suddenly feeling jealous of the snake. This was supposed to be his time with Harry. He was supposed to be making memories that he would remember forever. But a snake had to ruin it.
Apparently Harry realised that he was feeling jealous because he laughed and said "Draco, are you jealous of a snake?"
"No!" Draco lied and crossed his arms over his chest. The snake slithered onto Harry's arm and they continued hissing back and forth.
"Even Dalla sees it…" Harry commented with a laugh.
"I am not jealous of a bloody snake!" Draco huffed.
Harry just laughed again, and after a few hissed words to the snake, let it go. Draco huffed out a breath, and the snake hissed something else before slithering away. Harry burst out laughing, clenching his sides as he did so. Draco rolled his eyes and glared at Harry.
"What did it say?" Draco demanded.
"That is for me to know and you to forever question!" Harry laughed and booped Draco's nose.
Draco scrunched his nose and glared at Harry even more. When Harry's laughter subsided, he reached to Draco to kiss him but Draco shook his head. He continued glaring at Harry, while the boy hugged him. Harry looked up at him, with his gleaming green eyes and pouting lip. Draco realised Harry was giving him puppy eyes. He found himself blushing like a bloody teenage girl and hated it.
Draco pecked Harry on the lips before continuing to glare. The truth is, he wanted this to last forever. If he had one wish it would be to keep Harry. He knew that it was useless. Harry was a little slow, that is why he didn't realise that Draco was a horrible person. The things Draco had done to make him unworthy.
He was even worse of a person for being Harry's boyfriend. One day he'd get the heartbreak he deserved, but for now he was going to take advantage of this happiness he stole.
"Alright Draco, let's get back to my flat." Harry prodded Draco's shoulder and Draco opened his eyes.
Draco smiled and they both stood up. Draco held on to Harry's arm as he side-along apparated to Harry's flat.
