A/N: This story is set after Deathly Hallows, and is fairly canon-compliant. The only aspects of this story that are not labelled as canon are the Longbottoms owning La Graciosa, and the buildings on it. I also created my own charms for the purposes of the story, and the spells have an asterisk (*) next to them. The information about the Canary Islands has all been researched, and none of it is my own.
Neville was laying on the seafloor, his night vision charm in place, when he suddenly pushed himself up, though he was careful to not make a ripple. With the waterproof camera in his hand, he broke the calm and smooth surface of the water. The island he had inherited from his father, Frank, was a favourite holiday location for he and his wife, Hannah. His currently sick wife was sunbathing on the beach, as they had been informed that the salty sea air would help clear her nose and lungs from the virus she had contracted.
The charm was wearing off, so he cast it again with a quick "Tenebris relinquo*"
La Graciosa was one of the smaller islands, and had belonged to the Longbottom family for generations, since before the islands were colonised by the Spanish. The centuries the Canary Islands spent under Spanish rule until they became an independent nation were spent in relative peace between the magical and the mundane. When the Islands became independent in 1963, the Longbottoms strengthened the wards around the island, making it look uninhabitable to those unaware of the family home there. With all the wards protecting the island, it was inaccessible to almost everyone - bar those who were granted permission. While almost no one could access the island, the natives to the other islands agreed it was a beautiful place.
The beautiful beaches and the surrounding coral reefs provided many activities for natives and visitors to enjoy near the water. Further inland, stalls popped up for the Lanzarote Festival every year, which always brought dozens of visitors to the islands.
The heat penetrated the water, warming Neville up as he swam back down to the reef he had decided to research. The coral had been alive for centuries, but there was no trace of magic in the surrounding water. The identification spells he was casting showed they had been enchanted by a long-dead ancestor, Evangeline Longbottom, who had obviously wanted generations of humans to enjoy the beauty of the reefs, whether they may be magical or mundane.
He decided he had spent enough time underwater for the day, and kicked off from the seafloor. As Neville broke the surface of the water, he felt a wave coming from the shore and knew it was because of his wife. When he ducked below the water, he cast the bubble-head charm and swam to the shoreline.
Suddenly, Neville felt himself being levitated out of the water, and when his vision cleared he found Hannah's wand pointed at him. Knowing Hannah wanted cuddles, he tried to move through the air and toward his wife, but failed miserably. When she put him down, he ran over to where she was lying and lay down next to her.
"Look! That cloud looks like a bird… A Phoenix, maybe?"
"And that one looks like a dog!"
They wasted the afternoon away, before they realised the time and went back to the only beach house on the island.
The next day, the couple decided to just enjoy the beauty the island had to offer and lazed about in the treehouse Frank had built for Alice after they got married. The humidity pierced through the palm leaves that made up the roof, and the couple kept getting distracted by the beauty of the other. Finally, Hannah had had enough of the silence and started to tease Neville, which only caused him to tease Hannah back.
"Pay attention to me!"
"It's too hot to pay attention to you!"
"No it's not!"
As Hannah continued to tease him, Neville prepared to launch himself at his wife. When she stopped to breathe, he pounced. He landed on Hannah with enough momentum that they kept rolling until they reached the wall, facing each other. The gap between their faces was miniscule, and Neville leant forward to close the gap. As their lips met, the first raindrops of the storm hit the palm leaves, and a flash illuminated the room as sound rumbled around the island. The two jerked apart and gathered their belongings together. Once they gathered everything, Hannah transfigured one of the crates from the storage room into a waterproof bag, which they quickly stored everything in.
Their belongings safe, the couple climbed down the ladder and cast a quick "Aqua repellere(*)" before they took a brisk walk back to the beach house, to enjoy the rest of the afternoon.
