Chapter two of "The Ghost of vale"

Team RWBY was sitting on their beds in their new dorm all of them quietly remembering the events of the day. Ruby didn't know quite how to feel. She was proud that she was chosen to be the leader of her team. Even if she didn't feel worthy. However, there was still a big part of her that didn't feel right. More like, like…

"I'm going to the bathroom."

Yang gave her a concerned look but nodded. Ruby got up and walked into the bathroom. After closing the door, she looked at herself in the mirror. "I-I wont cry n-not yet I…" She never finished that sentence. Breaking down she couldn't stop them water works from coming.

"W-why did this happen? I should have done more; I don't pretend to have known him long b-but still..." He'd been nice to her and was funny. Sobbing she watched the tears streaming down her face in the mirror. After Jaune fell they tried to find his body but it was imposable to see into the mists below. And had to leave because staying around would attract the Grimm. She hadn't even noticed he had fallen she was so focused on taking the Nevermore down.

Ozpin said they would look for him but for some reason she had this feeling they wouldn't find him. After they were named team RWBY they all had been sitting in silence. Knocking came from the other side of the door.

"Ruby? Want to talk?" Yang's concerned voice was a little muffled by the door but Ruby would know it anywhere. Wiping away her tears and moving over to the door "S-ure. What di-d you want to t-talk abo-ut?" The cracks in her voice came and she couldn't help that.

"Look, I'm upset too and I'm not very good at the whole make you feel better thing." Yang's voice sounded tired. "To be honest there isn't some magical cure for the pain of loss. Sometimes bad things just happen. Man, I'm really not helping, am I?" Ruby heard Yang sighing "Look Rubes, I know its bad but you've got to hold it together for now at least. Go to bed and try to sleep we do have school in the morning. You know how hard it can be sometimes, this will take time to heal too." Ruby heard Yang moving away.

Not the most comforting words but Ruby knew they were true. Standing in the bathroom she knew that this probably won't be the last time she got upset but for now she had to put on the brave face for her team and go to bed.

Pyrrha laid on her bed quietly contemplating the ceiling. Ozpin had taken pity on her it would seem; Ren was made team leader leaving her with less of a spotlight. Still she hardly felt relived. She hadn't slept to well that night thinking about Jaune. Thus, leaving her awake early in the morning. Deciding it would be a waste to sit thinking about her mistakes as a partner she got up looking over she saw Nora snoring. Ren's bed was empty. Glancing around the room she was surprised to see him in a meditative position already dressed for the day.

Walking over to get dressed Ren suddenly spoke. "He knew the risks."

Pyrrha stopped turning to face him. "You mean Jaune?"

Opening his eyes Ren nodded. "Didn't we all? The headmaster told us we could die it's not exactly unheard-of Huntsmen dying." Looking at her he continued. "He may have been unconscious but if he was here, I don't think he would disagree." Pyrrha stood there silently for a moment then nodded.

That was probably true. She also knew Ren was trying to comfort her in his own way. However, there was one thing she knew the others didn't. The silly fool hadn't even known what aura was. She had assumed that being freshly awakened he would be better protected; it didn't occur to her that he wouldn't be able to turn it on in time. She knew now as she knew then. Jaune Arc hadn't died falling off the bridge. It happened before that and only one person was to blame for this death.

The same person who didn't even bother teaching him how to use his aura, or stop him from going into the cave with the Death Stalker.

She Pyrrha Nikos.

And she hated herself for it.

Jaune looked up at the sun. "I'm confused how come the wind affects me less in the day?"

Looking around he sighed. "Can't even find my way to Beacon cliff, man do I suck with directions." He was still in the Emerald Forest. In fact, he had the funny feeling he might have been going in circles. He had avoided going higher in the air for fear of the winds affecting him but with the way things had been going he decided that going into the air to get a better view might help after all. Oddly the winds seemed to have less affect on him the during the day thus bringing us to the current situation.

"Well regardless time to look around." Looking around he saw well lots of trees, some mountains, the city of Vale and… "Wait! Its Vale! Ha! Let's see from here Beacon should be uh…actually I'm not sure which way it is." If you needed more proof that Jaune Arc had no idea where he was going, this should prove it.

"Hmm. Well I should still be able to find Beacon by heading there, once there it won't be that hard to find." Nodding he started flying in that direction. Only for a bolder to suddenly come flying up at him. Blinking in surprise he looked down.

"YOU! Just go away!" Oh yes there was one other thing Jaune found out during the night weirdly Grimm can see him. For some reason or another whenever Grimm saw him, they fled. However, there is always the exception.

"Geisty If you don't leave me alone, I'm coming down their and...and…" and what yell at it? That seemed to work with the others but this Geist didn't seem to know when to quit. It couldn't do anything to him but it was still a pest. Possessing a large set of boulders, it was preparing to launch another bolder at him.

"Ok then, bring it on we can do this all day!" Flying down he flew through the bolder flying up at him. "See! Nothing!" Flying forward Jaune started to rush the golem. "If I need to get close and personal I will!" The Geist threw its whole self at him smashing the ground and a lot of trees in the process. Looking around the Geist saw nothing. It's single eye blinked.

"Behind you."

If a Grimm could jump out of its skin you bet it would have. Spinning the golem around it looked for the voice finding…Nothing.

"You really thought you could harm me? In case you haven't already noticed I'm dead."

Looking behind it's self for any sign of the voice it suddenly felt something strange, something warm.

"Why are all of you so afraid of me? Pyrrha said you guys were soulless, you shouldn't feel anything…Or is that it? The reason most of you are so afraid I am nothing but a soul. Such a being even scares the Grimm? What happens if I enter you?"

Now one must know Grimm don't really have emotions save a continuous want for human blood. However, in that moment I can assure you this Grimm regretted ever trying to "play hero" by standing up to a being such as this. For Jaune Arc's guess was not far from the truth, with one part of why he did not yet. Now I can assure you that he will figure it out at some point but that's hardly important now is it?

The Grimm realizing that he was in fact hiding in the rock it was possessing now tried in vain to escape only for him to enter it before it could even move. "Well this is a weird feeling. What am I even…? Ahhhhh!" His scream etched its self into this Grimm's mind to it this was scarier the aNuckelavee's scream what was worse was the reason behind his scream.

"No way. I can see its thoughts?!" Jaune was dumbfounded. There was more he got from this encounter but he will learn of that in due time.

They both floated there for a moment. Then the golem exploded as the Grimm fled as fast as it could. Jaune was too stunned to pursue. Left alone the clearing (recently made by a rampaging golem as it happens) Jaune considered the implications.

"I could hear its thoughts. Does this mean I can read thoughts of people too or just Grimm?"

Now with more questions to think about he remembered what he was doing before he was interrupted by the Geist. "Right, I was on my way to Vale, guess I can test my theories there." Rising into the air once more he looked around. "Really there is no way the fight took that long." The sun was starting to set but was not yet behind the mountains. "Guess I just lost track of time in general." Looking around he spotted Vale in the distance.

"Alrighty then guess if I want to make it before nightfall, I should try to amp up my speed a bit. Though if I really don't need to sleep then I guess it makes little difference."

Looking at Vale in the setting suns light with the broken moon in the sky visible even during this time of day. He was lost in it.

"I guess I just never appreciated views like this when I was alive…" Shaking his head he laughed. "I had to die to start seeing the beauty of the world that's a bit messed up." Still he was grateful he got a chance to view the world through different eyes. "Never realize what you have till its gone…" Laughing again he started to think he was going a little insane.

"Well time to move." Rising through the air he willed himself towards Vale.

All in all he decided Remnant isn't the worst world to live in…or die in…perhaps he was going insane after all.
