Izuku waited for a few more minutes to see if his fingers regenerate but it all of it were still dangling by the skin and had little to no sign of healing at all. Even his throat still hurt a little bit. However, Izuku was still jittery and contemplated on breaking his toes next to calm himself down but stopped when he realized that he'd had difficulty walking if he did. So he sighed, put his broken fingers in his pockets, and decided to just roam the streets to collect his thoughts before going back to Midoriya Izuku's home. He didn't really know where he was or maybe he was just too distracted by his own thoughts to care but he snapped out of his daze when he heard the commotion from across the street. He looked at it from where he was by using his quirk, his eyes still closed, and was shocked when he saw the same sludge villain from Midoriya Izuku's memories before his death.
What's that villain doing here? If the man that was there when I woke up really was a hero, then why is that thing here and not locked up?
He remembered the man's confusion and shock and Izuku thought that maybe he had something to do with this mess.
Was he that affected by our short chat?
Izuku started walking closer to hear from the people crowding around.
"Poor kid. He's wearing a middle school uniform, right?"
"Yeah I know, but the heroes will do something about it."
The Heroes were shouting something.
"All we can do is wait for someone with a suitable quirk. Stand back, everyone."
"Yeah, we'll reduce the damage in the meantime"
"Damn it. Hang in there kid."
The useless chatter came off as white noise in Izuku's ears. He knew what a person suffocating looked like and if no one does anything any time soon, then that kid is dead. Izuku was just starting to contemplate the pros and cons of helping out and how he would go about it when he saw the kid's face and all of a sudden, all of his thoughts stopped and then felt a knot in his throat.
Tha– that's
"KID! STOP! STOP!"
Izuku heard someone shout at him but he didn't give a fuck. He kept getting closer and closer to the villain and the kid.
"KAT– KACCHAN!" He rasped out.
Izuku's mind was reeling. He was also shaken from the fact that his body just moved on its own. he shouldn't have been this impulsive anymore. It was ridiculous.
"What are you doing here, Deku?!" The boy yelled as he struggled against the sludge villain. He couldn't even turn his head to Izuku's direction so he must have guessed it was him from the use of the nickname.
Okay, umm… what's happening to me?
"I don't know!" Izuku yelled in frustration as he just froze there, hands still in his pockets and eyes still closed.
Why did my body move on its own?
Before he could think more, he saw the kid who was struggling to get out of the villain's grasp the explosive boy's face, a mix of anger, dread, and something Izuku could not read, he had heard what Izuku said. He looked like he wanted to just go off with anger but he was already falling in and out of consciousness.
Izuku saw all this and his body twitched with the need to immediately do something.
Is this Midoriya Izuku's influence?
"Fuck this shit!" He'll think about it later.
Izuku took his hands off his pocket. He felt like the muscles and joints were starting to join back together. He could move it but the wound was still very fresh.
Izuku knew that his back was facing the heroes so they wouldn't see what he was about to do so he just put one of the fingers in his left hand in his mouth and tore it off with his teeth.
I need to give Katsuki some breathing room now or else.
Izuku opened his eyes and spat the finger into his right hand. It was still weird holding things with his right hand without the Dragon arm quirk but it was doable. Izuku took a step back and then like a baseball player, Izuku took aim and threw the finger with all the force and precision he could, not quite hitting the mark but he did hit the villain right in the side of its eyes.
The villain let out a startled and pained shout as the finger went halfway deep and the hold over Katsuki's nose and mouth loosened. The boy struggled to get some air in his lungs and was coughing out the villain and even looked like he vomited a little.
Izuku, though, instead of coming to his side and yanking him out of the villain's hold, just stared back at the thing that looked at him with one wide eye. The other was still shut from being hit by his projectile finger and it was still sticking out of the villain's muddy eye socket. He looked at Izuku with just the tiniest bit of apprehension and fear.
Izuku didn't care and just focused on the one opened eye. He didn't need both eyes looking at his to activate his quirk. And so he did.
Izuku grinned.
He felt that snap in his head as his quirk paralyzed the one that was looking at his eyes.
"What did you do?!" The sludge villain shrieked. Izuku continued grinning. By now, he was sure that the villain couldn't move and feel anything as if he didn't even have a body. He made sure that the villain felt like it was staring at death's eyes. Izuku made sure that the villain felt like he was trash even smaller than an ant under his gaze.
He put his left hand in his pocket and pressed the one fingerless stump against the fabric to control the bleeding. He stepped forward until he was in front of the villain. Izuku just looked up at him with wide and clear eyes. He stretched his right arm up until he reached the sludge's closed eye and got a hold of the finger that was stuck there.
He smiled up at him and pushed the finger deeper in the villain's eye. When it looked like he was about to scream in pain, Izuku deftly took his finger out and put it in the pocket with his left hand.
Izuku didn't like unnecessary killing but this was the villain that killed his other self. If the kid hadn't died, then Izuku wouldn't have woken up. His other self may have had another chance to achieve his dreams. After all, anything could have happened while he was still alive.
Izuku easily made a decision and just made the villain lose all control of his body, he's still aware but he won't be able to do anything as the heroes lock him up. The sludge around Katsuki seemed to melt and let the hold around him loosen.
He wanted to kill the villain but he wouldn't. It wasn't worth it. And his other self wouldn't want blood on his hands anyway. He's not like Izuku that was used to it all.
He just looked at the wide and terrified eyes of the villain.
If I see you this shit again,
Izuku couldn't help but smile maniacally.
I'm going to savour breaking you inside and out.
The villain may have made a whimper but Izuku just rolled his eyes and walked towards Kacchan. The boy and Midoriya Izuku both wanted to be heroes but his counterpart had put an emphasis on his desire to save people and not much about coming out on top with villains. Should Izuku do so as well?
I'll think about it. Izuku nodded to himself, reaffirming his priorities.
The initial burst of adrenaline was gone and now he was quickly able to calm himself down and assess the situation.
My throat still feels sore. Was Izuku's random thought as he looked back at the heroes' who immediately acted when he looked at them.
Bakugou Katsuki was about to pass out when he heard the villain scream something. The next moment, the villain suffocating loosened up and he was able to suck in some are in his burning lungs. He didn't know how long it took but the villain suddenly went lax and dropped him on the ground.
Katsuki was on his knees and was pressing a hand on his chest. It hurt like hell. When he looked up, he saw the villain lying down on the street like a puddle in front of... who's that?
The kid looked at him in the eyes and then Katsuki couldn't breathe. But unlike with the sludge villain, he didn't want to fight it. Just when he felt like he was about to be sucked into those golden eyes, the kid closed it and Katsuki could breathe again.
What the fuck was that?!
The heroes then stepped in, capturing the villain and putting the two of them on the side.
It took Katsuki a moment before looking at the kid again, seeing the marks under his eyes.
"Hey you!" The kid turned to him and pointed at himself. He looked like an idiot with his eyes closed like that. "Yeah you, fuckface. Where's Deku."
The kid tilted his head.
"Deku? Me?" He answered in a gravelly voice.
This kid is an idiot.
"Not you dumbass, are you Deku? I think the fuck not. So bring that nerd out now!" Small explosions came from his hands but the bastard didn't even seem to care.
The boy just knitted his brows then said to Katsuki, "Oh, I think I get it. Kacchan it's me, Izuku."
"No you're not." Is this kid fucking with him?
Before the kid could reply the heroes with the paramedics came and checked on them. The heroes praised them both, Katsuki for hanging in there and for his strong quirk that he was assured was suited for heroics (Of course it fucking was) and the kid for being heroic and for efficiently subduing the villain.
But he wasn't listening to any of that. He was so fucking mad that the nerd even tried to help him before the other kid stepped in and did whatever he did to the villain. And now that useless nerd was hiding from him. He was probably scared shitless by now.
But what if the villain got him too? Katsuki glared at the paramedics. No, fuck that. The quirkless idiot could kill himself for all he cares. He was just a waste of space that was always following him.
But he kept looking from where he sat because he needed to make it clear to Deku that he never asked for his help and that he didn't need to be saved. Just thinking about it makes his blood boil with the urge of killing the nerd. He's sick of being looked down on by that trash.
"Hey kid, are your eyes alright?" The paramedics tending to the other kid asked. He just smiled up at them just drank the water given to him and cleared his throat while holding his neck this right hand.
"It's fine. I just feel a little numb. I'm not used to my quirk since it just manifested today."
The heroes and paramedics gaped at him not knowing where to start. If this was true then this was amazing. Late bloomers were much rarer than the quirkless. And the fact that he was able to apprehend a villain the day he got a quirk means that he's either lying and had a lot of experience using his quirk or has genius level instincts. They were making a very big deal about it.
But that wasn't the important thing to Katsuki. The voice the kid used to answer was familiar, it wasn't the gravelly voice he used before. Fuck familiar, he'd know that annoying voice anywhere!
"Wait sorry." The way he apologized, there's no doubt that's fucking Deku! "Can I please have another bottle?" Deku said as he gave the paramedics an empty water bottle.
Katsuki just stared. Now that he was not running high on adrenaline, the closer he looked the more he was certain that this was Deku. He could also see some of his freckles under those red marks. And on his back was that stupid yellow bag.
Katsuki growled. "Deku..."
Everyone looked at him. Deku turned his head and asked, "Yes Kacchan?"
The calm tone he used as if nothing wrong was going on made Katsuki lose it.
"You fuckin– DEKU! What the fuck is this?! Are you fucking kidding me?! You have a quirk? You just manifested it today? FUCK YOU YOU LITTLE BITCH! COME HERE AND I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU!" He stood up, charged towards Deku, and grabbed him by the collar.
His hand ignited with small explosions. Deku didn't seem fazed. Hell, he even had one hand in his pocket like a cocky prick.
The heroes scrambled to get him off Deku. He was being hold off by Kamui Woods.
"YOU THINK THIS MAKES YOU BETTER THAN ME?! I CAN TAKE CARE OF MYSELF SHITRAG! AND WHAT'S THIS SHIT YOU'RE TRYING TO PULL OFF? EXPLAIN THIS SHIT NOW!!"
He was thrashing against the hold of the hero. The fucker just stood there and didn't even seem fazed.
"YOU EXPECT ME TO BELIEVE YOU, YOU LYING FUCK?! YOU'VE HAD A QUIRK ALL ALONG, HAVEN'T YOU?!" Kamui Woods was telling him to calm down but he didn't give a rat's ass to what he was saying.
Deku had the nerve to make a short high pitch sound that like he was holding back a laugh and his mouth just rested on a smile that creeped the fuck out of Katsuki.
"No Katsuki." Deku opened his eyes Katsuki hated the way that the words died in his mouth and just stared at him. "I'm not lying. See these?" He pointed at his eyes and marks on his cheeks. "These are mutations from when my quirk manifested. I'd need to go to great lengths just to try and hide for all these for years. My god, why the hell would I even do that?" That creepy smile and his eyes widened just a fraction. "Do you actually think I enjoy being abused by people like you?"
He stepped closer to Katsuki looking at him dead in the eyes, now his face lost all emotion. Katsuki would never admit getting shivers at the display. "If you still believe that I'm lying then you don't know Midoriya Izuku at all." There was something in his eyes– anger, a voice in his head says, the cold kind. He's mad that Katsuki would think that the nerd would lie. Katsuki knew that but something inside him just wouldn't accept it and kept saying Deku had been lying all along.
"And FYI, you were about to die and I saved you. And just so you know, I would still have saved you even if I was quirkless." He tilted his head to side-eye the heroes, one brow raised, and rolled his eyes at them. "I wouldn't just stand around waiting for a suitable quirk to come while someone was dying in front of me." Deku narrowed his eyes at the heroes who looked taken aback.
"I'm going home." Deku huffed and walked away his eyes were now closed again. No one stopped him. It was only until it started to rain and people made noise that they turned to look at the hero standing behind them.
"Did All Might just cause an updraft with just air pressure?"
"What the hell?!" "ALL MIGHT!" "That's so cool!" "HOLD ME!"
All Might came towards them with a fallen expression. It seemed like he also heard what Deku said.
"Sorry, I wasn't any help even when it was my negligence that caused all this."
Katsuki hated that the first time he met his Idol and greatest wall to climb was in a situation where stupid Deku and the things he said were filling his mind.
What the fuck Izuku? What the ACTUAL.EVER.LOVING.FUCK?!
He felt a weird mix of mortification and giddiness at what just happened. He was uncontrollably grinning. He was mortified because the way he acted was so unlike his and Midoriya Izuku's personality. Izuku should have gotten over his recklessness and embarrassing emotional rants when he got past a hundred years old but nooo, Midoriya Izuku's effect might not only be applicable to his body but also to his mind. It was a thought that was really starting to concern him.
Izuku has now resumed walking with no particular direction. He chose that as his way of calming down instead of breaking anything again. His fingers have just regenerated, that one finger on his left now reattached, and he didn't want to have to wait for it to heal again before he returns to the Midoriya Household.
The feeling of the quiet buzz from the remains of Hiroto's quirks reminded Izuku that whatever he was experiencing right now might not be so simple. But the worst thing that could happen was his death and that would also the best thing that could happen so he wasn't that afraid.
Izuku's thoughts then went to Katsuki. Izuku was conflicted over him. On one hand, he was his other self's personal bully which he adored and looked at as his symbol of victory. On the other hand, he had interacted with many many people in his long life and some of them had the same, if not worse, temper as the kid. The kid even reminded him of some of them. Memories of such things make Izuku feel a bit of fondness for the kid and sadness at the reminder of what he's experienced up till now.
But regardless, standing up to his other self's bully was quite fulfilling. Even though he's too old to get involved in the matters of children, one of the said children was dead and he just made a one-sided promise that he would turn his dreams into reality. His other self wanted to be friends with 'Kacchan' and Izuku will try his best but that doesn't mean he can't teach 'Kacchan' some lessons coupled with petty antics here and there.
I still need to try and become a hero though. And I still need to find a way to die. Aaand I still need to kill that motherfucker Shigaraki.
But before all of that, he needs to get into U.A first. He also needs to re-establish his connections from all sides of society. He may be an immortal but he's not omnipotent, especially now that he's lost two of his originally four Dragon Quirks.
Plans and back up plans were currently being conjured in his head and the feeling of excitement and dread was enveloping Izuku. It was the same feeling he had whenever he had a breakthrough on his Immortality Quirk Research during the first few decades he decided he wanted to die.
Because of his reminiscing he made a very rookie mistake. He didn't pay attention to his surroundings. So what happened was...
"I'M HERE!"
"HUH?!" Izuku jumped back in reflex, again forgetting that his Dragon leg quirk was gone so he struggled a little bit to not fall flat on his ass.
He looked at the man that was there when he first woke up. He felt indignation at being caught off guard that he glossed over the very familiar words that the man said. Izuku just glared at him.
"No shit you're here! You don't have to scream at people. What kind of–" Then Izuku stopped.
From the memories of a young Midoriya Izuku, the words 'I'm here' meant a lot. And now, Izuku was just starting to remember what it meant to his counterpart and what it meant personally to him.
The man was still smiling at him, albeit stiffly.
"I'm apologize for startling you young man. I–"
Did he say 'I'm here'? What the fuck?
"Are you All Might?" Izuku asked dazedly.
The man's eyes widened and looked surprised but he caught himself.
"Yes, I am." The man then made a sheepish grin and scratched the back of his head. "I thought you didn't know who I am from how you reacted earlier and just now."
Okay, fuck my life.
"This… I…" Izuku started but stopped himself. He just nodded at him.
"It's okay young man." The man smiled kindly at him. "I know that you were just in a stressful situation in the both times we've met. Don't worry about it." He paused. "Speaking of which, are your eyes okay? Why are they closed?"
Izuku quickly thought of a lie. "My quirk paralyzes anyone who looks at my eyes so I'm closing it so no one can look at it." He saw the hero's concerned expression so he quickly added. "It's hard controlling it now but I'm sure I'll be able to in the future and I can see also through my eyelids so it's not really a problem All Might"
The man nodded and Izuku just stared.
I can't believe that I forgot his face.
Izuku controlled his expression so that his sadness wouldn't show.
The last time I saw him was when he was what? Seventeen? Eighteen? Right after Shigaraki killed Nana.
Izuku felt the familiar guilt eat him up again.
He controlled himself and sent the man a sheepish smile of his own. "I'm sorry about that. My quirk just manifested today so…" Izuku copied the man's mannerisms earlier and also scratched the back of his head.
This is also something that my other self would do right?
The hero smiled his signature smile at him. "Of course! I don't mind at all! Congratulations for getting your quirk by the way." He reached behind him and took out a notebook. "The reason I'm here is so that I can return this to you. You dropped that at the tunnel earlier."
Izuku took the notebook. It was the notebook of his other self. He smiled fondly at it.
"Thanks. Is that the only reason why you're here?" Izuku can't really see this as the only reason that the hero sought him out.
The hero laughed. "No my boy. I am here to ask you something about what you did earlier."
Izuku tilted his head.
Did he see me rip my finger off my hand?
He quickly thought it over.
Nah, he wouldn't act like this if he did.
"Okay, what would you like to know?" He gave a reserved smile.
Izuku saw the man's expression and realized that he wasn't acting like a normal teenager would at all. He internally winced but recovered quickly.
I can be a calm fourteen year-old. Who the fuck says I can't?
Izuku didn't move and just waited for a response.
"He-he" The man started nervously. "Well! I would just like to ask you the motivations you had for running into danger like that even after just manifesting a quirk you exhibited courage that no one at the scene showed, if you don't mind answering of course."
He's using polite speech?!
Izuku wanted to laugh but maintained his cool smile.
"Well, I don't know what to tell you to be honest." Izuku inserted a nervous chuckle. "My body just kind of moved on its own."
Izuku noticed the smile on the hero's face grow brighter and brighter as he soaked in Izuku's answer. It wasn't that great in his opinion but to each his own, he guess.
"That's impressive young man." The hero started. "What happened to you is the same as most of the ranked hero today."
Where is he going with this?
"Young man, let me tell you something that only a very few people know." Izuku swallowed. "I am looking for a successor, to be the next Symbol of Peace and pillar of our hero society. I am asking you to be that my boy."
Izuku remained silent for a few seconds.
Well damn. This can't be good.
Izuku was about to respond when he heard a horrible cough from the man and then smoke covered him. Izuku saw though and saw blood coming from the hero's mouth. "Shit!" He searched his bag for tissues and when he looked up, he saw a different person but it was one that he easily recognized. This form really resembled his looks from when Nana first presented him as the eighth holder of One for All. However, now he looked wrecked.
"I can explain. Don't worry it's still me, All Might." He started.
No shit. But for formality's sake he acted surprised and said, "WHAT?!"
"I'm sorry for startling you but this is my real form that is not known by the public."
He looks like a dying man.
"… How? What happened?"
Toshinori just sighed. "Since I'm asking you to be my successor, I'd like you to know what that will entail." He then looked solemn and lifted his shirt.
"This is a wound I got 5 years ago from a fight with a villain" Toshinori started and Izuku's blood turned cold. Could it be?
"A villain?" Izuku looked at the body of the Symbol of Peace.
From the placement of the wound, half of his lungs were damaged and his stomach should have been removed too. I once tried ripping my organs in an insanity fit so I know fatal injuries when I see them. His face and eyes are the same ones I had when I had repeated surgeries although it went away after a few minutes thanks to my regeneration.
He saw the hero gaping at him with his arms at his side and – Oh shit did I say that out loud?
"Yes you did." Izuku clamped his mouth shut and covered it with his hands. Toshinori continued. "And your medical knowledge is impressive. I didn't get everything but from the bits and pieces I heard, you are frighteningly correct about my injuries and the effects of the repeated surgeries."
Izuku heaved a relieved sigh and nodded. Toshinori was still impressed but chose to continue. "Thanks to this, I can only work as a hero for more than three hours a day."
"Damn." Izuku couldn't help but say but then he went back to the most important question.
"The villain that did this to you..." he trailed off.
"The fight was hidden from the public so I can't tell you anything aside from the fact that he is the greatest evil I had faced." All-for-One no doubt.
"I understand." Izuku nodded. "But can I ask what happened to that greatest evil? Is he dead?"
Toshinori became silent at that.
"Most likely. He escaped but he was on the brink of death after the fight."
Not good enough. He's still alive. Izuku quickly concluded. He won't believe it without a body and a 'Most likelly' is not gonna cut it. Now he needed to be prepared and warn the heroes as soon as he sort things out with his memory and own quirks.
"Anyway, I am telling you this because I want you to know the dangers of this profession. And I also want to tell you that if you still want to accept my offer regardless of that, then I would make sure to dedicate my everything into making you a hero that everyone will look up to."
Izuku opened his eyes to look directly at the hero.
"All Might, even with your condition why do you still work as a hero?" He looked up at Nana's successor.
The hero gave dropped his pretentious smile and changed it with a real one.
"I simply want to save as many people as I can my boy. I also want to honor the wishes of the heroes that came before me." Izuku knew he was pertaining to Nana and the previous holders of One for All.
"You see, I want to do my part. I don't to let them down by being less of a hero that they were." His smile then turned a bit sad. "They are the reason why I am even here right now. The number one hero, the Symbol of Peace, the hero known as All Might is the product of their heroism, sacrifices, and ideals. I may not know all of the heroes of the previous generation, but I know what I owe them, what I owe society by being what I am and having what I have. So, I guess long story short, I still work as a hero despite everything is because I want to and I need to do it." He smile turned back to being confident and reassuring, the opposite of what Izuku feels right now.
The hero seemed to look up a lot to the previous holders of One for All and because of that Izuku felt small. He didn't deserve it. He didn't deserve that kind of admiration. Of all the holders of One for All, he was the disgrace, he was the selfish third holder. He prioritized his death over his duty and in the end became less and less involved with the quirk and its successors. He was also always too late to save them from Shigaraki.
I'm no hero Toshinori.
He looked at the eight holder of One for All. And when he looked, he saw what a holder should be, he saw everything that he wasn't. And with this thought, Izuku just asked himself how he could fulfil his other self's wish of being a hero when he was the furthest thing to one.
A/N:
