Spain was paradise. Alex and her mom stayed on a beach resort in the beautiful island of Ibiza and it was amazing.
The culture, the food, the women- God, the women; they were beautiful, hot human beings. Some were college students on spring break seeking after a fling with bodies just begging to be fucked senseless.
You know how there's the saying "all you can eat buffet?" Well, Ibiza was like entering the "all you can fuck" island and somehow, when it came down to the hooking up part, Alex couldn't do it.
She kept telling herself that it's because she was with her mom and they rarely saw each other anymore so spending time with anybody else on their trip would be rude and selfish. She tried every excuse in the book not to take multiple of those European girls back to her room but the sad truth was, her heart just wasn't in it.
At the wee hour of the night, a particular blonde dominated her thoughts and she kept thinking about how unfinished they left things the last time they saw each other. She kept thinking about how she didn't even try to fight whatever it is that's between them.
Let me in...
She never thought that those three fucking words could be so haunting.

After a week's break, school was back and Piper had been respectfully keeping her distance from Alex and it's like she was playing this mind trick on Alex and the brunette didn't even know it.
Even though all Piper wanted to do over the break was text Alex, she didn't give into the temptation. Somehow, by kissing Alex and then asking the brunette to let her in, it left things so open. The choice was now in Alex's hands.
And if that bothered Alex, she didn't say because they haven't talked since they got back.
Finals for the seniors were the upcoming week and between talks of scholarships, and cap and gowns, Piper felt like she was going to explode. And stress never did anything good for her, which is why; she was now after-school, sitting in Alex's classroom, staring at her in silence as if it was the most normal thing in the world.
It was starting to be unbearable for Alex.
"Yes?" The brunette raised her eyebrows.
Piper shrugged. "Unless you're ready to have a conversation about letting me in, I just want to sit here and breathe for a bit." She said. "Is that alright with you?"
"Okay." Alex sighed.
So they were just supposed to sit there and pretend that they didn't kiss the hell out of each other in this very room just a few weeks ago?
Great!
Alex went back to her previous task of updating grades. She hated that part of teaching. Some teachers are pretty efficient and up-to-date with the whole grading process but apparently, her not so much.
She was a slacker in that area and she had vultures: a.k.a. students coming after school every single day complaining about their grades not being updated.
So here she was, after school on a Wednesday with several piles on her desk having the most awkward time of her life grading papers.
Yep. Karma's a big, hairy bitch.
"Something looks different." Piper said observably.
"What?" Alex asked.
She didn't bother stopping the typing rhythm of her keyboard.
"You." Piper replied.
Alex had spent some time basking in the beautiful sun on the beach in Ibiza and thankfully, she didn't suffer from third degree burns. Her normally pale skin now had a golden tan to it.
Instead of telling Piper about her week in Spain, Alex spin in her chair to look at the blonde.
"Is that what we're doing now? Talking about how different I look?" She asked.
"We can talk about more than what you look like." Piper replied. "We can talk about how you taste like too but I'm guessing that's a topic off limits, right?"
"Piper..."
"Let me in."
"Piper!"
"Have dinner with me next week." Piper said.
That caught Alex by surprise. She wasn't even asking. She was telling Alex and that was kind of new territory for the brunette.
Everything these days is new territory for her with Piper and she wasn't used to not being in control of herself.
"Why?"
"Why not?" Piper replied, smiling. "Next week is finals and if that's the last time I see you before graduation, then I want to share a meal with you." She said.
"No." Alex said.
She was desperately trying to cling onto some control but she was failing poorly.
Piper laughed. "I don't hear the word 'no' Ms. Vause." She told. "Have dinner with me, Alex." She insisted. "You can even pick the place if that'll make you feel better. Hell, bring Nicky. We'll make it a threesome."
She was fucking smiling.
"You're shameless." Alex shook her head.
Piper winked. "It's this new thing I'm trying." She said. "Say yes."
"No."
Piper looked down at her watch with a smile. She then tucked a strand of golden locks behind her ears and moved from her desk. She always loves a good challenge.
"I don't give up easily, Ms. Vause. That's one thing you should know about me." She told Alex.
And damn it if Alex didn't believe that was true.
Piper fumbled with a key ring as she slipped her phone in the back pocket of her jeans.
She stopped in front of Alex's desk and smiled. "I gotta go."
"Okay." Alex replied.
Piper brought her hand to Alex's cheeks and grazed a thumb against the brunette's lower lip with a delicacy that sent shivers shaking to her core. Then Piper tilted Alex's chin up with her forefinger.
"I missed you, Vause."
Piper's lips were a whisper away from touching Alex's but she stilled as she waited back for a response.
"Didn't you miss me?" She murmured. "Mm... not even a little?"
"I did miss you, Piper." Alex barely breathed through those words.
She silently begged Piper to stop torturing her and just kiss her as they breathed against each other's lips.
Piper smiled. Faintly, she brushed her lips against Alex's before pulling away and placing a kiss on the brunette's cheek instead.
"Let me in."
Then she left for the door.
Alex felt furious. Hell hath no fury like a woman waiting to be kissed. And then not kissed.
"You're not funny!" She shouted after Piper.
She could hear Piper laughing outside her door as she shouted back at her. "Later Vause!"

The last week of school, Piper made it her mission to ask Alex to dinner every day and every day the response came the same.
Hell no.
Piper wasn't mad. It was entertaining watching Alex fight the inevitability between them. It's like that aching void she's always felt was starting to be filled with something good. She didn't know what it was. But she knew it definitely had something to do with the brunette.
Piper didn't know how it started but since that Wednesday last week, she's been calling Alex every night and they talk for hours. That sadness she used to feel at the wee hour of dawn, it started disappearing because when she calls at three in the morning, Alex picks up even though she curses her for at least a good five minutes at the beginning of their call.
Piper had hope.
Whatever it is that's between them, all she knows is that Alex brings something in her that's been missing for a long time. And come hell or high water, she was going to pursue it because in her gut, it felt right.
