Excerpt 002

The warmth of the night had her stirring in her sleep. Sweat stuck to her skin, her hair slick at the bangs. With unease settling in the pit of her stomach, she carefully removed herself from her position beside her little bed partner before stretching and glancing about the room.

Her roommates were all asleep, still slumbering and resting from their long trek of the day, though... one was steadfastly missing. Like clockwork, she knew he would be. Come hell or high fire, he would always disappear in search of his past lover. And just like that, she would be saddened by the notion for she knew his love would, perhaps, never be truthfully reciprocated.

Still, after stretching - and now fully awake - the unsettle of her stomach had yet to dissipate. She tip-toed her way out of the room, slipping her shoes on as she went and grabbing her discarded umbrella at the door. She allowed her feet to carry her, aimless and without fault. Through the darkened village, across the bridge past it's borders, and into the even darker forest.

When she reached an open field, the moon's light had all but faded. The drizzle that had taken place had misted the area, carefully blanketing the field with moisture. Her gaze fell upon a figure - one she knew well - and for but a moment, she faltered. She hesitated. Her first thought was to turn back and allow him peace with his thoughts, but the way he stood... the way his near-perfect countenance practically glowed in the open field was enough to cause her pause.

The awkward presence of herself was enough to stifle her. She felt though if she took so much as a breath that it would break whatever peace the lonely lord had. The sound of her shoes, however, slipping past the tall grass had already alerted her presence to him. And he turned... and stared.

A/N: Wow. I actually wasn't expecting to do a second update so soon. But I'm bored, it's 4am, and I'm feeling creative! Until next time!
