My apologies, it took so long to update this. If you've forgotten about this story or simply don't care about it anymore, it's ok. Just as a background, I got sick and lost the extensors in my hands so getting this story out has been more than a little bit more challenging. It also did not help that I got really nasty comments from people here the last time I updated this story that I even questioned whether I even wanted to continue or not. The story never left me though, I see it playing out in my brain all the time, it's just making them come alive that I find myself questioning if I can even do it. It is for those of you still interested and for my own sanity that I find myself posting this today, so please if you have nothing nice to say keep it to yourself.
Again, I don't own any of these characters and only wish I did so I could change how things were inevitably written. Alas I am just a fan like you are.
And the night is takin' over
And the moonlight gets exposure
And the players have been chosen
And it seems like fate has spoken
When it seems your faith has broken
By the second, losin' focus
Ain't no way to get off, get off, get off, get off
Unless you
I bet you wonder how I go on
I'll simply say it's on again, it's on again
The world don't stop, it's on again
- It's On Again by Alicia Keys -
The meeting with Walter Steele had given Felicity a lot to think about. Not only regarding the job offer for her to join Queen Consolidated after graduating but also the amount of information he gave her regarding slayers and their lineage in general.
Walter, had a grandfather who was a watcher that occupied a position pretty high up in the hierarchy. He had grown up with stories about slayers and their sacrifices to keep the world safe from the forces of darkness.
According to him, save for three exceptions he was aware of, the council had been able to keep pretty much a close eye on slayers and potentials. Those three exceptions had been Buffy Summers, Faith Lehane and now her. All three for some unknown reason had managed to fly underneath the radar. Buffy and Faith only coming to the attention of the council once they were called and her existence which continues to remain unknown to the council.
To be honest, based on the memories she now shared with both Slayers, the Council not knowing didn't seem to be a bad thing at all and thankfully Walter felt no obligation to let the council know. His grandfather had always felt the way the council treated their slayers was abusive and rather one sided. Treating them like tools instead of human beings that had needs beyond the mission.
She had met him in order to discuss the job offer from Queen Consolidated on MIT school grounds and was in the process of wrapping things up when a few vampires had decided on making their presence felt, thinking they would be easy marks for dinner.
It was a toss up to see who was more shocked. Walter seeing, Felicity, the Slayer in action or Felicity, watching Walter actually take a stake from his coat and proceed to try to fight alongside her.
What started out as a short meeting turned into Walter joining Felicity on patrol and asking her what support system she had in place. He had been relieved to know that while she had no watcher she had something substantially better, people who were training her and fighting alongside her.
He was more than a little awed when he found out that she was being trained by the Wu-San sisters, both of whom were renowned for their expertise in martial arts. He added that their links to mysticism and the occult also did not hurt as they would be in a position to prepare her and her friends from threats both supernatural and not.
Felicity told him about her dreams that have been getting more frequent, urging her to go to Buffy Summer's grave. Walter told her Slayer's have prophetic dreams and that if her gut is telling her to go there, to trust in it and go there. Adding that the hellmouth may also need help while Faith continues to serve the remainder of her sentence.
She had already more or less decided to go to Sunnydale and pay her respects to Buffy's grave but what would happen later on that would solidify her decision and have her and her friends formulate a plan of action.
