Author's Note:

Hey all! I know I've been on a long hiatus but I've been feeling a lot better and want to get back into my writing. I will be working on my other stories as well. Years ago, when I was like 12 I wrote a mirai Trunks fanfic, but never published it. I recently found the jump drive I'd saved it on and reread it. I decided to rework it a bit and put it here. Please leave feedback! Your all's comments and feedback helps motivate me to keep going and it may just nudge me to finish my other works sooner rather than later! XD

A young man was fiddling with his space craft, making some minor adjustments before heading out on his journey. A solemn look was painted onto his face as he focused on the task at hand. It was evident he was trying to focus but his mind was racing. Racing with thoughts of her.

Behind him approached an older woman with blue hair and a tired yet worried expression on her own face. "Leaving now?" She asked him softly.

"Yeah, soon— I'm just touching up on a few things," he explained as he continued to work his hands. He finally turned away from the wiring and looked back towards the woman. "Don't worry about me, mom. I promise I'll be fine."

The woman gave a light laugh and smiled at him, "I know you will Trunks, but a mother will always worry for her children."

The young man named Trunks stood up and approached his mother, stopping as she reached out her hands and cupped his face. She smiled up at him before lifting a hand to run her fingers through his lavender hair. "I am just going to miss you."

"I'm going to miss you too..." he repeated sadly.

After sharing their goodbyes he turned to replace the cover onto the craft where he had been working and then floated upwards, gently seating himself inside.

"Trunks, just remember that anything you do can affect the future. Just focus on what we talked about and it will all turn out for the good." His mother called up to him. He glances down to her and gives her a brief nod of understanding. "You can't tell anyone who you are— you can't tell her—"

"Mom," he abruptly cuts her off, "I know. Don't worry. I'll go to meet Goku and tell him about Doctor Gero and the Androids and then come straight home when I am done." He lied; she knew it and so did he, but she shrugged it off and decided to trust that her son knew what he could and could not do when going to a different time.

"Just come back to me either way." She smiled.

He smiles in return before hitting a button, causing the glass of the time travel machine to close overtop of him. He enters the calibrations and then closes his eyes, taking a slow deep breath before opening his eyes and pushing the button that would send him 34 years into the past. (Trunks is currently 31 in this story)

Present day — West City

West City's high school bell chimed, signaling the school day had come to an end. A group of five young girls were walking together on their way home from school, laughing and talking with each other. One of the girls suggested going to see a movie since it was a Friday evening and the rest all smiled as they agreed to meet up later once they got home to change and get ready.

High above them hovered a figure. It was Trunks, and he was focusing in on one of the girls in particular. He watches her silently, a sad expression on his face. She was just as he remembered her; slim, pale, beautifully silky long black hair, and eyes as blue as the sky. He observed her for a few moments before turning to fly away.

He hadn't went completely unnoticed. Below, the girl had spotted a silhouette in the sky and watched as it hovered for a few seconds before flying away. She had stopped in her tracks as she pondered what or who it may have been.

"Chise!" One of her friends called after her.

"Huh?" She snapped out of her thoughts as she looked ahead of her to her friends who had walked on quite a bit without her. They looked at her in confusion as they waited for her to catch up. She took one last glance in the direction of the figure before running to catch up.

"What is with you?"

"Everything alright, Chise?" Her friends questioned.

"Yeah, I'm fine. I just thought I saw something in the sky." She explained as she pointed in the direction she had been fixated on. They all look in the direction she is pointing at before dismissing it as nothing more than a bird or a plane as they all continued on, Chise stood still for another moment before following.

"You've been really distracted lately. Are you sure nothing is up?" Another friend asked her.

"Yeah, guys. I'm just stressed with finals. After all, we will be graduating soon." She was honest but not completely truthful.

Her father had been missing for almost a month now. No word at all from him. It was hard on her, but it was even harder on her mother. She couldn't stand to see her mother hurting, and not knowing if her father was dead or alive somewhere was a hard thing to constantly have on her mind; but she wasn't allowed to tell anyone or talk about it, given his job. He was a scientist, and his work was completely confidential and top secret. Even she and her mother didn't know the details that went with his job.

The thoughts were eating at her and she frowned, "Actually guys, I don't think I can go with you all tonight." She interjects into their current conversation which she hadn't even been paying attention to.

"Huh?"

"What?"

"Why not?"

"I'm just really tired is all. I think what I need is to just relax tonight." She makes up excuses hoping they'll buy it and leave it at that.

"You have all weekend to rest Chise, come on!"

"Sorry guys. Maybe next time." She smiles before turning to run across a cross walk that had just turned. They all called after her but she didn't stop.

After a while she made it home and sighed as she could already hear her mother sobbing inside. Once she grabbed the doors handle and turned it, her mother quieted down as she stood up to greet her. "Chise, how was school?"

"Fine mom." She assured, "Need me to help you with anything?"

Her mother shook her head, "No. you've had a long day honey. You should enjoy yourself."

Chise removed her shoes before removing her book bag from her back, carrying it in one of her hands by its top handle. "I think I'll take a nap then." She sighs as she walks upstairs towards her room.

"Alright. I'll let you know when dinner is ready ok?" Her mother calls.

She doesn't respond as she continues up the stairs, shutting the door to her room behind her she throws her book bag down and then lays facedown onto her bed. Her eyes flutter shut as she thinks about that strange figure she saw in the sky. Eventually she falls asleep while trying to figure out what it could have been.

She awoke gasping and in a cold sweat at the sound of something breaking downstairs. She shot up and cautiously sat on the edge of her bed as she listened to what sounded like a struggle downstairs. If she was right, it sounded like there were men talking and her mother was crying. Looking at the time it was almost 8 pm, her room was dark since it was nighttime so she carefully stood up and slowly made her way to her bedroom door. She placed her hand on the doorknob but hesitated as she listened to the sounds coming from downstairs. Her mother was pressing on, "who are you", "what do you want" only to be met with heartless cackles. Anger built up inside of her as she flung her door open and rushed to get to her mother.

She stopped halfway down the staircase as she saw the scene before her. The front door had been kicked in, dishes were broken all over the floor, her mother was sitting on the ground with her hands over her head as three men clad in black uniforms with a distinct red symbol with two white R's embroidered on them cornered her mother. All three of the men were looking up at Chise now.

"Who are you and what are you doing in our home? Leave now!!" Chise shouted at them.

"Or what, princess?" One of the men mocked while the other two chuckled.

"I'll tell you what. Why don't you just come with us without a fight and we will let your mother live, what do you say?"

Chise's eyes widened and her mother cried out "No, Chise don't go with them!! Ahh—"

"Mom!!" Chise cried out as one of the men struck her mother on the back of the head, making her go unconscious.

"I'm getting tired of hearing all this whining and bitching." The man who hit her mother complained as he turned and started to walk towards Chise. "Now, be a good girl and— what the hell!" Before he could even make it to the stairs something had hit him, hard and fast. Chise didn't even see it! She watched as the man flew into the wall, leaving a huge dent in the drywall as it cracked when the man slid down. Immediately the other two men drew their guns as they looked around the room for whatever had hit their comrade, finally locking their guns onto it.

Chise gasped, there at the bottom of the steps before her was a man. His back was facing her so she couldn't see his face, but he had short lavender hair, a blue jacket, black pants, orange boots and a sword was settled on his back. Who was this guy and where did he come from? Was he the one who had interjected? She hadn't even seen him! Man was he fast.

"Get out of here. Now." The man calmly ordered.

"Just what the hell do you think you're doing, you little punk?!" One of the remaining men shouted.

"You're gonna pay for that!" The other snarled as he gestured to the man who had been knocked into the wall.

The mysterious stranger stayed silent, but did not move from blocking the stairs. This angered the men, but as they both went to pull the trigger to shoot him, he moved again— well, basically teleported as the two men were disarmed and knocked back onto their butts. They quivered in fear as they stared up at the man, he looked down upon them with anger in his eyes.

"Now, listen and listen good. You will take the other man and leave here now and never come back! Be sure to tell your boss Doctor Gero that this girl is off limits, and if he has a problem with that I'll settle it myself." The man warned in a dark voice. The two men didn't argue or waste any time as they rushed to grab the unconscious of their party before fleeing out the door.

"Did he just say I was off limits? To what..?" Chise thought to herself. What did he mean? She looked to him, his back was still facing her, and then she looked to her unconscious mother and hurried after her.

"Mom!" She gently scoops her mother up into her arms.

"She's alright, just unconscious." The stranger confirmed in a calming voice.

Chise furrowed her brows as she turned her head to him. "Look, it's not that I'm ungrateful to you for helping us, but, who are you?" She asked.

The man didn't answer her, or even move.

"Um, hello, are you going to answer me?" She called out louder, narrowing her eyes.

Suddenly he turned to look at her, his eyes met hers, but only for a moment before he glanced away from her. This made Chise gasp softly in confusion. Even if it was only for a second, the way he looked at her... she had noticed. It was then she took in the rest of his features she couldn't see before. He was a bit older than her but still young, handsome, and although he was completely covered she could tell he was fit and built. He definitely had to be for him to move and fight the way he just had.

"I'm sorry, I understand your wariness after what just happened but I promise I am not like them. I'm a friend." He states while still avoiding eye contact.

"Friend?" She questions, "We don't even know you!"

The mans expression seemed to twinge in pain for a moment. Chise cocked a brow at him. Who exactly was this guy? Her thoughts were interrupted by her mother stirring in her arms. "Mom? Mom!"

"Chise?" Her mother groaned, "Did they hurt you? Where are those men?" She questioned before her eyes fell on the man before them. Her mother's eyes widened slightly and she gasped.

"It's okay mom. They're gone now. He got rid of them." Chise explained.

Her mother looked at him in confusion. "Who are you?"

The man stayed quiet for a few more moments before responding. "I'm a friend of your husband... he sent me to warn you both." He lied.

Both Chise and her mother gasped. "Kenchiro sent you? Where is he?!" Her mother shouted.

The man hesitated before answering, "He's dead."

Both gasped as tears welled up in their eyes.

"How...why?" Her mother questioned.

"Your husband worked for a man by the name of Doctor Gero..." he began. "This man commands what is known as the Red Ribbon army. Your husband helped him in creating the ultimate soldiers Gero uses, but when he refused to help with his next project he was killed. Doctor Gero sent his men after your daughter, to use as an experiment on the project your husband refused to work on." He explained.

"But why? Why would they kill him all because he refused to work on something? I don't understand!" Chise's mother cried out.

"It's because of what Gero wanted." The man calmly stated.

"What did they want?" Chise asked when her mother was too choked up to continue talking.

Again he hesitated, and it made Chise angry. Even more angry that this guy was STILL avoiding looking at her. "What did they want?!"

"They wanted you." He finally answered, causing Chise and her mother both to gasp as they stared at him in wide eyed confusion. Finally the man moved his eyes to look at Chise.

Chise was shocked by this news, but when the man finally looked at her she was drawn into him. His eyes were full of such sadness and sorrow. It seemed to be more prominent as he looked at her. It was like he knew her personally. Strange seeing as she never met the man before, but he claimed to be a friend of her father, so maybe that's why. He was close to her father so he cared for his family and wanted to warn them. That was a good enough explanation for Chise right now. She trusted this man.

"Listen, although I sent a warning I don't think it will stop Gero. He will send others after you again. You both need to leave this place as soon as possible." The man explained. "Completely uproot yourselves and start a new life far away from here. Get new identities, and do what you have to so they can't find you." He suggested.

"We can't just—" Chise started but her mother cut her off.

"Do you really think they will come after her again?"

"Yes... I do." The man answers honestly.

Chise's mother nods before going to stand, Chise is careful to make sure her mother doesn't fall. "We will do whatever we have to do... thank you." She turns to look down at Chise. "I'm going to go pack and arrange a moving van to come out. You should start packing as soon as you can, too." Her mother grabs the cordless house phone before rushing upstairs to her own room, leaving Chise alone with the stranger.

Chise kept her eyes down at the floor as she rubbed a hand along her wrist anxiously. All this news was hard, but she and her mother finally had answers to her fathers sudden disappearance. She could hear the sound of footsteps approaching her but didn't look up until there was a hand extended in front of her.

Timidly, she looks up and into the eyes of the stranger. There's something about him, and the way he looks at her that she feels there is more to it than what he has told them. She doesn't question him anymore though, and gently she takes his hand. Carefully and gently he helps pull her up to her feet.

"Thank you, uhh... what is your name?" She asks.

It seems to throw him off and he hesitates, but he still answers her. "It's Trunks." He says softly.

"Trunks... thank you." She smiles at him.

A light blush flutters across his face and his eyes widen briefly as he turns away from her. "I should go now." He states, not turning to look at her as he heads for the door.

"I won't forget you and what you've done for us!" Chise calls after him. He stops for a moment, but continues on out the door before taking off flying into the night sky.

Chise is astonished by this, but then a look flashed on her face when she remembered seeing a flying figure earlier that day. She wonders if that had been him and if he had been watching her to protect her all day? It seems she would never know.
