I walked into the classroom noticing that Tsuna and the others hadn't come to school. I guess they got caught up in whatever Tsuna needed to do today. Not just that, but if Tsuna and I got the rings today, that means everyone else must have, too. I looked outside the window right next to my desk and tried to calm my nerves. It was still early in the morning so the sun wasn't high but the clouds were white and sparse and everything seemed peaceful. It was always peaceful in Namimori.
I saw a yellow bird pass by the window and fly down to land on someone's shoulder. I looked at the figure closely. The bird landed on a boy who was wearing a white polo with a black sweater vest and pants. I didn't know who it was until I saw the flash of a red and yellow armband. Not just that but the way he exuded dominance as he walked. It was Hibari Kyoya.
I learned about him on the first day of school from Tsuna who just mentioned that he was scary and told me to just follow the rules. It reminded me of when I first met her homeroom teacher who said the exact same thing.
"Just keep in mind, follow the rules closely," the teacher warned. It wasn't like I would do anything to purposely not follow the rules. I had no reason to and I really didn't want to -Tsuna said that Hibari always said this before he beat up someone- get "bitten to death". What a weird phrase.
I think he knew that someone was staring at him because he turned around and caught my eyes. I didn't bother looking away. I had met scarier people in Italy than this guy. And a stare wasn't going to get me in trouble, right? All I heard was that he was really unapproachable and didn't like crowds.
Our eyes stayed on one another until he whipped around, continuing to walk around the school with the cute, yellow bird still on his shoulder. "What a weird guy," I muttered to myself.
During lunch, I was walking up to the roof when I accidentally slammed into someone near the stairs. The impact caused me to almost drop the food I was holding.
"Oh, sorry!" I bowed to the person quickly.
"Aha, it's okay, Yuki," the person laughed it off. I stood up straight and saw a familiar white smile with blond hair.
"DINO!" I gave him a hug. "What are you doing in a middle school?" I glanced behind Dino and saw Romario. I sent a small wave towards him which he returned with a small nod.
"I'm here to tutor my student," I looked at him confused.
"Your student?" I asked.
Dino said, "Yeah, for the rings."
"Oh," I nodded slowly in understanding. "Who is it?"
"He's a difficult one," Dino scratched his head. "Hibari Kyoya"
"What?" I said in shock. How was that guy a guardian? Then again, I didn't know who the rest of the guardians were except for, I could guess, Yamamoto and Gokudera. "Well, good luck with that." I gave him an earnest smile, remembering the description of the prefect people had given her earlier.
"Thanks, I'll need it." With that, Dino left to go see Hibari while I walked up the stairs. Settling in a corner, I took out her bento and began eating. I looked at the sky. It was probably one of my favorite past-times.
I heard steps coming up the stairs and quickly turned my head towards the door. Hibari Kyoya, followed by Dino and Romario walked through. I pursed my lips and gathered my stuff I put on the floor. Having them on the roof meant no peaceful lunch. I stood up which brought the attention from the three males onto me.
"Oh, Yuki, you're here?" Dino said. "Help me get through to this guy." I don't know what he would have wanted me to say.
I went to stand next to Romario, away from the fight I knew was going to happen, "You're on your own." I continued eating my lunch as I leaned against the fence surrounding the roof with Romario.
"Can't be helped," Hibari and Dino got into a stance, "I haven't been on the school roof in a long time, I like this place."
I heard Hibari say back, "Then I'll let you stay here forever." With that, Hibari lunged at Dino. Swiping his tonfas at the blond man, I looked in amazement at the power Hibari had while fighting. I watched their fight closely, analyzing the moves Hibari was making.
Hibari fought offensive but it looked like he didn't really think about his movements. Dino constantly kept blocking, easily dodging the attacks which seemed to irritate Hibari. He wasn't able to land a single hit. I watched as Hibari moved faster. A flurry of movement. My eyes widened. I wonder how he was able to train to become so fast and strong. What stood out to me, though, was his aura. It was so… bloodthirsty.
I kept her eyes trained on them. Noticing the small openings that Dino was giving Hibari as they fought to lure him to try to land a hit. Dino's weapon was a whip and with lots of practice, Dino could use objects around him to help further the range of actions his whip could do.
Hibari was ruthless. I realized that his weapon directly correlated his personality. To initiate close combat with those who oppressed him rather than fight from mid-range and long-range attacks would have him feared in people's eyes. He doesn't back down. He was someone who directly approached and did what he wanted with no second thoughts. He was indeed someone to be feared.
I walked around Namimori by myself. Tsuna was training with Reborn and the other guardians, whoever they were, were probably training as well. I wanted to train, too. I hadn't done so since I came back from Italy. I was anxious to do something.
Normally, I had someone to train under. I was trained a few times by Dino, the Ninth's guardians, my father and his subordinates. Because of the Vongola, I had to know how to defend myself and also Tsuna. I decided to see if Dad could help me out.
I went back home to find he wasn't there. I guess I would have to find something else to do. I decided to just do some running today to work on stamina and endurance. I changed into a tank top and shorts and began running around the perimeter of Namimori.
Once I finished running for an hour, I ran back home and found Tsuna eating in the kitchen. "Yo, Tsuna," I saw the bags forming under his eyes. "You look tired. What have you been up to?"
Tsuna heaved a big sigh, "Reborn is making me train for-," he suddenly cut himself off.
I widened my eyes, hoping he would say it, "Train for what?"
Tsuna waved his arms in front of him rapidly, "Nothing! Nothing! He's just trying to get me to become more athletic and all. Physical stuff really isn't for me, you know?"
"Ahh," I said nodding in fake understanding. "Let me know if you need anything okay? Anything." I emphasized.
I found herself walking around Namimori again. This time just walking to take in the scenery. I trained by myself earlier in the forest and went for a long run like I did the day before. It was getting pretty late and I started heading home.
As I was walking, I sensed that someone was following me. I stopped in place, pretending to tie my shoe. I glanced down behind and saw a shadow. I stood up quickly and turned around, ready to get into a defensive stance. A hard hat and orange suit made me relax.
"Dad? What are you doing here?" I asked him.
His face tightened, "They're here. Follow me." I nodded grimly. Walking along, I looked up at the sky which was painted in pinks, purples and yellows with lots of clouds floating around. It was calm, the complete opposite of what was happening right now. I couldn't ignore the tightening of my stomach. The Varia were strong but I knew to trust that my brother was strong as well. From what I heard, he had beat Rokudo Mukuro. Definitely not the physically incapable Tsuna I knew from when they were young.
I saw the Varia and Tsuna in front of me. I saw an orange light that I knew was could only come from Xanxus's hands. I was about to run towards them to stop them but dad acted before I could. He threw his pickaxe which landed right in front of the Varia. "Wait Xanxus. That's enough. I'll be running the show now." The Varia and Tsuna's group looked over us. My dad stood his ground and I stood close behind him, arms crossed and glaring at Xanxus.
"Dad? Yuki?" Tsuna yelled.
Gokudera's face lit up in surprise, "What? Juudaime's father?"
The Varia had a different reaction.
"Iemitsu," Xanxus said darkly.
Squalo eyes looked murderous, "What are you doing here?"
"Will your men be able to fight me, the outside advisor?" Iemitsu said.
"Don't butt in our business," Squalo yelled. "You're just a coward who only knows how to run."
I stepped in front of my dad holding a metal rod I had taken out on instinct. I held it in front of me, my hard glare was sent at Squalo, "What did you say? Don't even think about it, Squalo."
"Yuki!" Lussuria sang. "We've missed you. "
"I think that's only you right now, Luss" I pointed out. "We're on different sides right now. I wouldn't be so carefree."
"Wait, Yuki," My father interjected. He addressed both crowds, "I wasn't running. I was waiting for an answer from the Ninth. I have his response. It's a direct order."
I heard Tsuna speak up, "I'm confused. Why are Dad and Yuki up there?" Reborn explained the situation with the Ninth and their dad having differing opinions on the successor for the Vongola as well as their dad's position in the mafia.
"That doesn't explain why Yuki is up there as well," Tsuna said after listening to Reborn's response. Reborn didn't answer.
I dropped down from the ledge me and dad were standing on to hand Tsuna the paper that dad received from the Ninth. "I can't read Italian. What does it say?" I laughed with my dad, I forgot the Ninth wrote in Italian.
"Pretty much, it says that the Ninth had previously thought that Tsuna should be the successor to the Vongola but now he believes that Xanxus is worthy to be heir. Therefore, there will be an official battle for the rings." he summarized. "A battle for the rings will occur between the Varia and Tsuna's family. One-on-one battles will be held for the titles of the rings"
Upon saying that, two women jumped out in perfect sync. Both bearing long pink hair and black eye masks. They wore a white top that went to their mid-thigh and a cropped black leather jacket. "Excuse me, we're with the Cervello Agency and we will be overseeing the battles. Our judgement is the Ninth's judgement."
As soon as they came out I immediately didn't like them. They just seemed too shady.
My dad put up a fight, saying he didn't know about them and he could not let them judge something so important to the family. The Cervello overruled him, and told both parties that the one-on-one fights will occur at night at Namimori Middle and to go to the school the next day at 11pm. With that, the Cervello left.
"See you tomorrow, scum," Xanxus said with a lasting glare at Tsuna.
Lussuria waved back, "Bye Yuki. We should talk soon." That was Lussuria, I rolled my eyes, as flamboyant as ever and always wanting to talk about girl stuff with me.
"No way," Tsuna said, dropping to his knees in defeat.
I walked to her brother and pulled him up, "No use in fretting over it now, Tsuna. We need to get some rest before tomorrow. We don't know which battle is coming first." I put my hand on his shoulder to try to bring him some comfort. I guess now would be a good time to tell him I had a ring.
"Yeah," Yamamoto added, trying to alleviate the tension in the air. "Don't worry about it Tsuna. We're all in this with you."
Tsuna looked at me, "And you!? Are you a guardian as well?" It looks like he beat me to it.
I looked down in hesitation wondering if this was the right time. I shook my head. Just just asked, of course it was. "Yes, I am." I replied and took out a ring from underneath my shirt and showed it to him.
"HIEE! Not you too," Tsuna said. He looked at the ring and his face turned in confusion.
"Wait, it's whole and its… a snowflake? Snow? Reborn never mentioned anything about a snow guardian," Tsuna said looking at the ring closer. The others came up to look at the ring as well.
I looked at Tsuna, ready to tell him everything "There was a reason that I went to Italy, Tsuna. When they realized that I possessed snow flames, they took me to Italy. I was trained to protect myself because of the rarity of my flame. That's also why the ring is whole instead of half. No one else is known to have this flame. The last time there was a snow guardian was during the time of Vongola Primo and the Snow guardian was his sister. Being direct descendants of Primo, I guess I somehow got it?" I shifted my feet nervously, "This wasn't how I wanted to tell you about this."
Tsuna looked at me with calculating eyes. "I wish you told me that you knew about all of this," He said but his voice trailed off as though he was thinking.
"I didn't know how to tell you. I was ready to become a guardian to whoever the next boss was going to be. To be honest, I didn't really know it was going to be you until recently," I rambled on trying to explain myself. The words quickly tumbled out of my mouth now in an effort to have Tsuna understand.
Tsuna grabbed my arm, "Look, it's okay." He was looking at me straight in the eyes, and I could tell this was coming from his heart, "I'm not mad. Actually, to be honest, I was scared of telling you about everything, too. I'm glad that you're going to be there next to me. Next time, don't be scared to tell me. I understand you more than you know just like you do me, right?" I looked at him, tears about to form in my eyes as he reiterated the words I told him the day before.
That was my brother. Always accepting and understanding people as they are and for who they are.
I felt the butterflies in my stomach come to a halt. I pulled him into a big hug, "I love you, Tsuna, you're the best," Tsuna chuckled and hugged me back just as tightly.
The next morning, Tsuna and I walked to school together. I could feel the nerves coming off of him and noticed his hand was shaking. I took his hand in mine and held it for a little bit, rubbing circles on the back of his hand in comfort.
Out of nowhere, Yamamoto put his hand on Tsuna's shoulders, "Yo, Tsuna, Yuki-chan. I couldn't sleep last night. I decided to go to school because I couldn't calm down enough to train." I looked to Yamamoto, who was always so calming in situations like this because of his care-free mind. "All I could think about was beating that long-haired guy and to be honest, I don't know what's really going on but when we got together I remembered it's our fight. We're in this together." I smiled. It was just the words my brother needed to hear.
"Yeah! We can't have people like them running the Vongola. We can beat them!" Gokudera said, running from behind us, carrying a large box in front of him.
I turned to Tsuna, "Look, you're not alone. We've always been there with you and we'll always be there for you. We're not stopping now."
Tsuna looked at the three of us with a newfound determination. I hope our words got through to him. He needs to realize that he is never alone and we were all here to draw strength from each other. We were a family.
Upon getting to the school, I saw Romario's figure leaning on the fence. I paled. That meant Hibari and Dino were still up there. I turned to Yamamoto and Tsuna and told them that I would meet them in the classroom. I rushed up the stairs onto the roof and walked to Romatio. The two fighters didn't seem to notice my presence.
"Damn," I said, looking at the two beat up boys. "They look dead." Romario nodded.
"They've been at it for a while now. Only stopping to sleep and eat." Romario said sipping on some coffee.
The two men had scratches on their faces and the visible parts of their hands. Their clothing was torn and it was only morning. "Aww, poor Dino. Not just that but he has to get him out of here for the battles." I mumbled that last part to Romario who only nodded.
I felt something coming towards me. A flash of silver came from the left towards my head and, without thinking, caught it in my hands. I looked to the owner of the and saw black hair, combined with a calculating stare. Dino and Hibari's fight must've moved toward us. I looked over and Romario stepped to the side in order to stay away.
I surveyed the position and Dino's whip was wrapped around Hibari's right tonfa and in retaliation, Hibari must have hit with a strike from the left. I just so happened to be in the way because the two had been ignoring their surroundings, only focused on the fight with each other.
Sheepishly, I let go of the tonfa and moved to the side, "Sorry, I was in the way."
Hibari glared at me, "For not being in class right now, I will bite you to death." He shook the whip's hold on his tonfa and swiped at me.
I did not want to be getting into a fight at this moment. I jumped back avoiding the hit and went to Dino. "Look, I'm not your opponent right now. This one is," I said and pointed at Dino. "Either way, we're on the same team, aren't we?"
"Team? I don't believe I ever joined one," Hibari sneered. "That doesn't matter. I'll fight both of you." Hibari once again took a stance, raising both tonfas up to his chest level.
I sweatdropped. This guy had a one track mind when it came to fighting.
"Ah, that might be a good idea," Dino said. "Yuki, you should fight him." The words came out of his mouth with a grin.
I stared at Dino in disbelief. I really didn't want to fight him. Let alone be in the same area as him. I was here to see Dino. Nothing more.
My soul left my body as Dino dangled some bait in front of Hibari, "She's strong." That's it. Two words. Two words seemed to excite the prefect that stood in front of me. The thrill of a good fight.
"Dino! Don't say stuff like that, I don't want to fight!" I half whispered/half yelled to him.
"You've been wanting to train, right?" Dino questioned me. He was right, I did. I don't know how he knew that though. But I went with it anyways.
Hibari swiped at me again. I stepped back and grabbed the tonfa in one hand. I twisted it in his grip and swiped Hibari's feet under him, causing him to falter. Hibari recovered just as fast. He lunged at me again, this time trying to hit underneath my arm that was holding his tonfa. I blocked the tonfa and threw a kick at Hibari's head, which he blocked as well.
Using my leg, which was still in contact with a tonfa, I quickly about-faced and hooked it in the gap of my knee and threw Hibari over my head. Hibari flew in the air but managed to land in a crouched position.
"Wao, fight me," Hibari said, as he looked up at me with a smirk.
I suddenly felt a rise in Hibari's aura. How is it that he is exuding more rage than he has before? How angry is this guy? Angry wasn't the word to describe Hibari. It was more of a murderous intent. I stood my ground but felt uneasy, "Are we not already fighting?"
I took a quick glance at Dino who smiled at me and was ignoring the fact that he switched spots in fighting this monster in front of me. I narrowed her eyes and sent a glare that meant "You're dead when I get out of this".
Dino's face went from smiling to smiling sheepishly with a head scratch. Focusing on the task at hand, I thought about the conversation I had with Reborn this morning about Hibari. Reborn told me he was concerned that since the battles were taking place at the school, he would cause a fight if there was damage and should be let out of the area. I should lead him out… My eyes narrowed in realization, he planned this all along! Why else would Reborn mention such a trivial thing to me.
"Don't ignore me," Hibari said as he rushed up to me. I ran to the fence and jumped up to the top of it.
I gave a mocking laugh, "You seem too confident up here. How about we have a change of scenery?" I jumped down and once I hit the ground, I started to run. They're gonna owe me for this. I'll just lead him to the forest and once we're there, I would let Dino become a punching bag again.
A/N
Hello! I'm thinking about adding extra's in to the ends of chapters in order to put out Yuki's personality and bring a better relation to Tsuna and the other characters. I'm not the best at writing but I'm trying my best to be as close to character as possible but still maintaining the relationships that I want to grow and keep it somewhat canon. But to be honest, right now I'm making my dream fanfic with Hibari and an OC so we'll see how that goes. My main concern is more of her and Tsuna's relationship development and Hibari and Yuki's. Hibari is a little hard to write about though because I swear this guy is really a one track mind and the hardest part about him, probably for all writers, is writing him to come out of his shell but still maintaining his aloof personality. Well at least, thats what I think about a lot when I'm writing this. I've watched this anime sooo many times (I've watched it 13 times and on my 14th because quarantine) and still have trouble when I try writing about him.
Anyways, thank you so much for reading! I really appreciate it 3
