JOHN-BOY´S GIFT OF WORDS. (Writer of Darkness)

As John Walton made his way back to the house for lunch after work, he spotted his older son sitting alone on the chair they had on the garden with a book opened on his lap, but he wasn't reading as his hands wasn't moving.

"Everything alright, son?" John asked as he approached.

"Daddy? Yeah, I was just thinking." John Boy replied with a sad smile as he closed the book.

"You seem quiet today, what's bothering you?" John sat beside his son and in response the young man took a deep breath.

"I was thinking, Daddy, how mad I am at myself that I can't find anything to give Mama on Mother's Day. I tried to write something, but the words didn't come out right….sure, i´m glad for the children give me that typewriter, but…I don't know''

"I see..." John started to think. "Why don't you just tell your mother how you feel? I think she will love to hear from you about all the things you like to say to her. You know John-Boy, that day when I went to pick you up from the institute and you thanked me for insisting on pulling you back on life. Hear your words that day, was such a gift to me, maybe its can be a gift to your mother as well.''

"Thanks, Daddy!"

"Anytime son, now lets go eat." John patted his son's shoulder and left.

During the rest of the day John Boy remained quiet, just thinking of what he could say to his mother, but nothing seemed good enough.

While he thought, he heard her voice ringing through the house, scolding Jason for going inside with dirty boots, congratulating Elizabeth for whatever she had done, teaching Mary Ellen something and asking Jim Bob how he was feeling after almost burning his fingers on the oven. The voice of his mother and her caring nature toward him and his siblings made John Boy think that as much as he loved his father, if it wasn't for his mother, he doubted he would ever have made it through his new reality.

The next day, the seven Walton siblings rushed to their parents room to wish their mother a wonderful day and give gifts; Jason composed a song, Mary Ellen and Erin gave her a dress, Jim Bob a muffin, Ben a jewelry box he had made and Elizabeth gave her a flower.

"John Boy?" Olivia called her older son, who was standing in the doorway. "Are you all right, sweetie?"

"Mama, sorry, but I don't have any gift to give you. But I want to thank you Mama for everything you have done for me, specially this last year, if it weren't for you and Daddy, I don't know what would have happened to me'' he said and in response, his mother just give him a warm caring hug, which he retribute.

Years later, when John Boy published his first book, he dedicated it to his parents. Olivia could say that seeing her son achieving his dreams, was more than a gift.
