We were both young when I first saw you, I close my eyes and the flash back starts. I'm standing there, on the balcony in the summer air…

Marlene Mckinnon never forgot the first time she met Sirius Black. She had decided to sneak off to the park one day and started playing on the swings.

Two muggle boys walked over to her and started picking on her, but she managed to stand up and push the taller one. The other one got mad and pulled her hair which made her wince and immediately try to smack his hands away. "Leave me alone!" The taller boy finally pushed her to the ground and she heard footsteps running in her direction.

She recognized the newer boy. He was one of the younger Black boys in the Black family. Her family had been instructed from a very young age to avoid them because their families were full of dark witches and wizards.

"I believe the lady asked you to leave her alone," the boy said.

The taller Muggle boy scoffed. "She's not a lady. She's just a little girl."

"Go pick on somebody your own size," the Black boy said. The other two boys stood there for a moment, looking unsure. The boy who stuck up for her took a menacing step and the two bullies started running away. He turned around and offered her a hand. Marlene narrowed her eyes, not sure if she should trust him.

She took it after hesitating a moment and they sat down on the swings in silence. "Thank you," Marlene said finally.

He nodded and looked over at her. "You're welcome. I'm Sirius Black."

"I know," Marlene said.

"Oh," Sirius said, looking downcast.

"I'm Mar-"

"MARLENE MCKINNON!"

Her eyes widened and she saw her parents running in her direction. Her dad scowled at Sirius when they were near. "What are you doing here with him?"

Sirius quickly stood up defensively, and Marlene followed suit. "Nothing!"

Marlene took a step forward. "He rescued me from two boys bullying me."

Her father scowled. "There are rules. And you two can't ever speak again."

Marlene stole another look at Sirius. "But-"

"Come along," her mother said as she reached for her hand.

Marlene took her mother's hand, but when she wasn't looking she looked back at Sirius. "Bye," she muttered softly.

Marlene got grounded for a week. It was finally over and she was ready to go to the park. Her mother let her go but she still called out, "Remember, don't-"

"Don't talk to any of the Blacks. I know," Marlene said.

She walked out of the house and headed towards the park. She smiled when she saw Sirius sitting in one of the swings. "What are you reading?" She asked when she was near him.

Sirius looked up. "I thought you weren't supposed to be talking to me."

Marlene wordlessly shrugged her shoulders.

He beamed at her. "It's just this comic book I found in a Muggle shop. I like reading them."

"Can I join you?" Sirius's eyes lit up and explained what the comic was about. They quickly became best friends.

A/N: This was written for the 5 Drabbles Competition in HPFC. My pairing was Sirius/Marlene. The first prompt use was never forget, but I changed it to never forgot for this. It was 500 words outside of the lyrics from Taylor Swift's Love Story. Disclaimer: I do not own Love Story or Harry Potter.
