Author Note: So this just a fun little batch of side stories involving the amazing Charon and his life along with the alternative routes which be a chapter of their own after this one. I hope you enjoy them. I enjoy writing them!
Short 1- Battle in the River
Charon was floating along the river in his cute little ferry boat when he noted that the river was being particularly rough today. Seems like some spirits were getting restless.
"Seems like it'll be one of those days." Charon readies his oar to beat a few spirits senseless.
The boat began to rise as the spirits tried pushing in bulk, "Woah! So your teaming up now? About time you all start using your heads." Charon teased.
"Special ability!!! Death from above!" Charon jumps into the air doing a flip only to slam his par into the river of spirits flattening their progress.
Charon than uses his oar as it's slowly sinking into the water to catapult him into his boat leading with a soft thud safely inside.
"There that outta teach you!" Charon proclaimed.
The river shook like an earthquake beneath him as the souls broke through the surface creating a giant hand to smite their captor. They hovered towering over him menacingly.
"Oh yeh be a feisty bunch! Well come on then! Show me what you got!" Charon points his oar at them fearlessly.
Short 2- Death's Helper (Kirell)
Short 3- Death's Helper (Balaam)
Short 4- Philio and Charon
Short 5- Charon's New Ride
Short 6- Charon's Forgotten Lover
Short 7- Charon's Sad Fate
Hades is the ruler of the Netherworlds and Charon is but an ancient soul who had been loyal to Hades and served him. Now he serves him in death as the ferryman. He can't remember his life as mortal as its been far too long and only vaguely recalls someone he once loved. Charon doesn't even consider himself to be mortal anymore as all his human life memories are gone along with his feelings.
His job is simple really to keep souls from escaping the river, put souls into the river or guide souls across the river. He carries the a water flask filled with the mind erasing waters of river Lethe at all times. While he is mostly seen floating down the rivers in his boat he has at times used his scooter to drive across the rivers using a bat to bonk souls back into the river.
Charon does know that he used to be very preachy and possibly beat his ideal into others though he's not sure if this is from him lecturing souls to stay put or from his forgotten mortal life serving as a loyal follower of Hades.
Charon is rather brave and fearless dealing with problems even taking a bullet to the face. He also has a strong sense of sinners acknowledging thier sins after committing it. This is actually from his mortal days of being a cult of Hades and trying save a women who he fell in love with that they were going to sacrifice dying to protect her. It was at that moment he knew what they were doing was wrong and was willing to die to redeem himself and protect the one he loved.
This is why love keeps Charon baffled and interests him enough to use his powers to assist lovers even if it might mean he'll get into trouble for it later. Charon is also super strong and an formidable foe dispite not looking like it. At times he can be extremely bitty and grouchy and other times depressed and tired depending on how his day went.
Hades trusts Charon enough to let him do his own thing, keep a copy of the book of life and allow Charon to have successors off he wants them.
Being mortal once Charon's greatest weakness is his book. As it's where he gets all his magical power from. While Charon can be physically hurt so long as his copy of the book of the dead is intact he can be revived. If something should happen to the book Hades himself would get involved and revive Charon if needed.
