The SecretMarriage
Chapter 6
As soon as Scott called I knew by the look on his face that something had gone wrong. Whatever it was he ended up getting Virgil to tell me. When Scott had told me that he had gotten himself married I didn't really blame him to be honest. I get that he wanted the same happiness that Virgil has with Jo, none of his brothers know about this and I am not sure if I should tell them. I know that Virgil knows and he is being very supportive with it. I think I will call John, Gordon and Alan because they need to know the truth.
I had started by giving John a call on Five asking him to call me back within 15 minutes which gave Gordon and Alan a chance to come into the office. The boys know that something is wrong because there are no call outs for rescues.
"Hey Dad is everything alright with Virgil and Jo?" asked John. It was the go to response these days after everything that had happened.
"Its not Virgil that I want to talk to you all about. It's Scott."
"What about Scott?" Gordon said through a mouthful of his sandwich.
"Well for the last year or so Scott has been seeing someone, he wanted a life outside IR. I didn't know anything about it until a couple of days ago. He told me that he got himself married about a year ago. A couple of days ago he lost his wife to cancer, she left behind a baby girl who is only two days old." He knew that it wasn't fair to his boys to just announce it all at once but honestly it was just easier to get it over and done with as soon as he could. For a few minutes there was nothing but silence as the three of them took in the heart breaking news.
"Poor Scott." It was Gordon who finally spoke. "What's happening now then?"
"Well I am going to fly over and support Scott, Virgil is flying over here right now so I can swap with him. Alan I want you to go and pick John up." His youngest nodded at him still looking like he was in shock."John put Five onto Auto for a few days. Gordon I want you to go and check on two because you know what Virgil is like, he will want to check it over and I'd rather it be done now."
Once I had given the boys their instructions I left to go and get packed. If I am honest I am glad that Virgil was there when Scott had found out. From day one Scott has been there for Virgil throughout everything so I know that Virgil wants to return the favour. I just hope that we as a family can get Scott through this.
