The Power of One
In the Orange Islands there is a legend that goes: Disturb not the harmony of fire, ice or lightning, lest these titans wreak destruction upon the world in which they clash. Though the water's great guardian shall arise to quell the fighting, alone its song will fail, and thus the earth shall turn to ash. O Chosen One, into thine hands bring together all three. Their treasures combined tame the Beast of the Sea. This legend was dedicated to the three legendary birds of the Orange Islands; Moltres, Zapdos and Articuno, and it says that if the harmony of these three birds was to ever break apart, the world would be in total chaos.
High in the sky, in some sort of flying ship, a man was reading the description of the legend. His name was Lawrence and he was a collector. He traveled all around the world collecting very valuable artifacts, and now it was after something more valuable than all his collections put together. "Moltres, Zapdos and Articuno," Lawrence said "they will be perfect for my collection". Lawrence had a computer that could talk and right now it was explaining that Moltres lived on Fire Island, Zapdos lived on Lightning Island and Articuno lived on Ice Island. "Which island is closest?" Lawrence asked his computer. "Fire Island, the home of Moltres" the computer answered. "Then I shall catch Moltres first" Lawrence decided.
Lawrence got his flying ship ready to catch Moltres. His ship was only equipped with machines like giant propellers that made it fly, but it was also equipped with weapons like cannons. When he approached Fire Island, he fired great big balls of ice from his cannons at Fire Island. After Fire Island got covered in ice, Moltres appeared.
Moltres was angry with what had happened to his island and started to attack Lawrence's ship with flamethrower. First Lawrence blasted balls of ice to weaken Moltres, and then he used four big metallic, electrical rings to capture Moltres. Moltres was soon caught and sent into Lawrence's ship. "This is like a simple game of chess," smiled Lawrence, after his successful capture of Moltres, "I will catch Zapdos next, then Articuno and then I will obtain the beast of the sea, Lugia".
Because of Moltres's capture, trouble was going to happen to the whole world.
Meanwhile Ash and the gang were out at sea, on a boat. The weather was gorgeous and no sign of trouble was heading their way. "What a great day" said Ash, stretching his arms. "I agree," said Misty "the weather today is gorgeous". "Hey I have an idea," said Tracey "let's bring out our pokemon to enjoy the weather as well". Misty liked that idea, and asked the owner of the boat, Maren, if they could do that. "Of course," said Maren "we won't be on the next island for a while, so all of you can just relax". Ash sent out Lapras, Espeon, Dragonair, Flareon and Ivysaur. Misty sent out Gloom, Staryu, Poliwags and Psyduck. Tomo sent out Farfetch'd, Pikachu and Cubone. Tracey sent out Marill, Venonat and Scyther. All the pokemon were relaxing, except Ash's Pikachu and Tomo's Growlithe. Pikachu and Growlithe was staring seriously at the sky, as if he could sense that something very wrong was about to happen.
At first everything seemed peaceful and normal, but then it all suddenly changed. Dark grey clouds quickly appeared in the sky and it started to rain really hard with howls of wind, worst of all, really rough waves started to build up in the ocean. Ash, Tomo, Misty and Tracey quickly returned their pokemon for safety, and hanged on tightly to the boat so not to fall overboard. "Where did this storm come from?!" shouted Misty. "I don't know!" shouted Ash "but it certainly came out of nowhere". Maren did her best to try to take control of the boat, but it wasn't easy with a rough storm about. A big school of Magikarp was swimming near them. They seemed fuller of life than usual and they swam with the boat, as if they were helping control the boat.
Maren soon noticed that they were heading towards an island. "That's Shamouti Island," she said to the gang "we are in the middle of the Orange Islands. I'm going to port the boat there". The gang agreed with Maren's decision; after all sailing in a storm is very dangerous!
Back at Pallet Town in Kanto, Delia was tending to her garden, when Prof Oak turned up at her house, on his bicycle. "Morning Delia," he said "your garden looks more beautiful than usual". "I thank the weather for that," said Delia "it has been so beautiful lately, that it has helped my garden so much". Suddenly they started to experience strange weathers; first it rained really hard, then it began to snow and then it went back to being nice and sunny. Delia and Prof Oak were confused by that. Then they noticed a flock of Pidgeys in the air and a labor of Diglett passed by them. Delia's pokemon Persian, Victreebel and Mr. Mime started to get upset. "Something is very wrong," said Prof Oak "Pokemon are more in tune with nature than humans are. Whenever something goes wrong they can sense it and it makes them very upset. And somewhere, something is going terribly wrong".
Back at the Orange Islands, Ash and the gang just set foot on Shamouti Island. "We sure are lucky" said Ash. "I agree," said Misty "if we hadn't found this place we would be in real trouble". "Uh I think we are still in trouble" said Tracey, nervously. The gang saw people in some sort of fury feathery clothing and had heads of big birds, and they looked very creepy. "Hey Maren, it's been a while" said one of them, taking of her big mask. "Hi Carol," said Maren "we got caught in the storm and floated here". "Well you got here at the perfect time," said Carol "the annual legend festival starts today". "My favorite island holiday," said Maren "are you the festival maiden again". "No I'm too old to play that now," said Carol "my little sister Melody is taking over the role".
Melody introduced herself. She was the only one not wearing a costume. "We have been doing this boring ritual for centuries now, and we still do it" she complained. Melody seemed to be one of those sorts of people who hated being part of rituals and ceremonies, even if it was tradition. "It's our tradition," Carol argued back "and you should be honored to take part". "Don't worry Carol", Melody assured Carol "I'll play the role in the legend, I know what to do already". "Just be there" sighed Carol.
When Carol noticed the gang, she asked Maren who they were. "Oh this boy with black hair is named Ash and he's a pokemon trainer" Maren said, introducing Ash to Carol. "Pokemon trainer?" shouted the islanders of Shamouti, and they all began to cheer. "The ancient legend foretells your arrival," said an old man "and only you with the great guardian beast of the sea can vanquish the titans of fire, ice and lightning. The fate of the world lies in your hands chosen one". Ash was confused by what the old man said, but the old man said to Ash not to worry as it's a saying for the tourists. Melody found Ash interesting and thought he would do as the role of the chosen one and then gave him a welcoming kiss, surprising the gang. When Melody noticed Misty, she asked her if she was Ash's girlfriend. "No I am not" said Misty. "That's right," said Tracey "Misty's boyfriend is another guy named Rudy". Tracey got stepped on the foot by Misty out of embarrassment. After the greeting, the islanders led the gang to the festival. Pikachu and Growlithe still kept on looking at the sky with worry.
The annual legend festival was a real blast. There was food stalls, bright light decorations everywhere, a parade, people dancing in the street and a lot of laughter and smiles. At a banquet hall, the gang was waiting for the legend ceremony to begin. "I wonder what my part in the legend is going to be" said Ash. Just then Melody, dressed as a maiden, entered and played a melody on an ocarina. (The same tune from the movie). After Melody finished the song, she started to explain to Ash what he had to do. "You must travel to the three islands of fire, ice and lightning and pick up the three glass spheres from their shrines. Then you bring them back here and I'll play the melody and it's all over". "Okay," said Ash, getting out of his seat, "I'll head off now". "There's no rush Ash" said Melody. "No, its best I go now", said Ash "the weather has been strange today, so I intend to go before it gets worse". Maren agreed to take Ash to the islands in her boat. Misty and Tracey decided to stay behind, but Tomo wanted to go with Ash. Just then Pikachu grabbed Ash's hat and he and Growlithe ran towards the stairs, as if they were really desperate to leave. So Ash, Tomo and Maren and Pikachu and Growlithe got onto Maren's boat and set off across the sea at once.
Down at the docks, in a building, Jessie, James and Meowth were discussing what to do next. They had arrived at Shamouti Island in a giant Magikarp submarine. "Okay, so what do we do now?" asked Jessie "I mean we nearly lost our lives and submarine in the storm earlier". "I must say something inside me is telling me that the weather we're having now is not natural" said Meowth. "It must be your pokemon instincts Meowth," said James "my grandmother once told me that pokemon get upset when something is wrong". "Yes, well this instinct of mine is also telling me that we will get more weather that's far worse than this" said Meowth. And Meowth was right, big gushes of wind, rain and lightning came and the sea was getting rough.
Down near the cliffs of Shamouti Island laid a shrine and a pokemon called Slowking, a pokemon normally in the Johto region, was staring up at the sky. "Disturb not the harmony of fire, ice or lightning" he said. Apparently this Slowking could talk. "What a mess".
Meanwhile Melody was getting worried about Ash, Tomo and Maren and asked her sister Carol if she could borrow her boat. "What are you going to do?" Carol asked Melody. "Ash and the others are caught up in this storm because of our stupid ritual," said Melody "and I'm the one who chose Ash. I just hope that they are okay". Misty and Tracey went with Melody too; they were worried about Ash's and Tomo's safety as well.
Back at Pallet Town, Prof Oak and Delia were at Prof Oak's lab, watching the news about the strange weather. "There has been strange weather disasters happening all over the globe," said the news reporter, showing off pictures off different strange weather in different areas like snow storms, thunderstorms and flooding, "the experts say that this all because of an unknown phenomenon deep beneath the ocean. An underwater river has made its way around the whole planet, disrupting ocean currents, weather patterns and the whole global planet". It showed a report of that. "I think this is what's making all the pokemon upset" said Prof Oak. "The reports say that the center of this problem is at the northern central region of the Orange Islands, around the island of Shamouti". "The Orange Islands" Prof Oak commented. "But that's where Ash, Tomo and their friends are right now" said Delia, worriedly. Just then Prof Oak got a call from Prof Ivy. "Prof Oak we have a problem," she said "the pokemon here are behaving strangely". Brock was running in the background trying to calm the pokemon down. At
that time, Ash, Tomo and Maren were still out on the ocean. Ash was holding onto Tomo, so that he wouldn't fall overboard, and Tomo was holding onto Growlithe and Pikachu was holding onto Ash. The sea was getting rougher by the second and Maren was finding it hard to steer the boat because of the waves tossing the boat about. Just then Ash saw an island in front of them. "That's Fire Island" said Maren. Just then they hit a rock and the rudder broke. "Hold on tight" said Maren. Thanks to the waves help, they made it onto Fire Island. "Are you okay Tomo, Pikachu and Growlithe?" Ash asked. "We're fine big brother" said Tomo.
Ash took a good look at Fire Island; it was a mountainous region, with rocky steps up the slops. Maren examined her boat. "We've made it to Fire Island, but-". Before she could finish her sentence, Pikachu and Growlithe took off and headed towards the rocky stairs. "Hey Pikachu, where are you going?" said Ash. "Come back Growlithe" said Tomo. The two brothers ran after their pokemon, leaving Maren behind with the boat. "Why are Pikachu and Growlithe acting so strange big brother?" asked Tomo. "I don't know Tomo," said Ash "but my guess is that it's something to do with this bad weather. Prof Oak told me one time that Pokemon act really weird whenever strange weather like this happens. So for now it's best that we just follow Pikachu and Growlithe".
Meanwhile Melody, Misty and Tracey were still on their way to Fire Island. The sea had gotten rougher than ever and Melody had to make the boat ride the waves, like surfing. "I've been around boats all my life, so you don't have to be scared" said Melody. "I'm never afraid around water," said Misty, confidently, "because I'm from a water pokemon gym".
What the group didn't know was that Team Rocket had snuck on board the boat and they were hiding in the lifeboat under a sheet. "Good thing we noticed the twerps preparing to leave on this boat" whispered Jessie. "Yes, and we will be able to see if Moltres, Zapdos and Articuno do live on the three islands around Shamouti Island" said James. "I still wonder about the strange weather we're having" said Meowth cautiously.
High in the sky, Lawrence was admiring his capture of Moltres. "Oh poor Moltres," he said "you look so miserable. But don't worry Zapdos and Articuno will join you soon". Lawrence had seen the upset balance of nature on his computer, but of course he didn't care. All he cared about was gathering the three birds and Lugia. Just then his computer started to speak; "Zapdos detected, heading towards Fire Island".
Right now Melody, Misty and Tracey had just reached Fire Island. Maren was surprised to see them. "Where's Ash?" Melody asked Maren. Maren pointed to the rocky stairs and told them that Ash and Tomo had gone to the shrine. Melody brought out the sail of her sister's boat and with the strong wind's help, the ship started to move up the rocky stairs as if it was flying. Misty and Tracey were amazed by this clever trick.
At that time, Team Rocket got off the boat, when the group wasn't looking. "We've made it to Fire Island" said James. "Okay, so how do we find Moltres?" asked Jessie. James took out a mini laptop from his bag. "According to this," he said "there is a shrine dedicated to Moltres at the center of this island". "Then we shall search for Moltres there first" said Meowth.
Meanwhile Ash and Tomo were still following Pikachu and Growlithe up the rocky stairs. Finally the pokemon brought their trainers to the center of Fire Island in a big volcanic mouth, and there lying near the edge of the cliff was a small stone shrine. Ash and Tomo followed their pokemon to the shrine. "This must be the shrine of Fire Island" said Ash, and took a good look at it. The shrine had a stone statue of a bird. "That must be Moltres," said Ash "after all Fire Island is home to Moltres, like Lightning Island is home to Zapdos and Ice Island is home to Articuno". Pikachu climbed up the stone Moltres and pointed to a fiery red glass sphere, held between the two stones of the stone Moltres's beak. Ash pulled the sphere out from between the two stones. Ash took a good look at the sphere in his hand; when his hand touched the sphere, a small flame came to life in the orb. "Is something wrong big brother?" asked Tomo. "No not really," said Ash "come on we better get back to Maren". He put the treasure in his pocket for safe keeping and headed towards the rocky stairs.
Just as they were heading towards the stairs, Team Rocket appeared. "What do you three want?" demanded Ash. "No need to fret brat," said Jessie "we just need to know where Moltres the bird of fire is. And if you do know something perhaps you would tell us?" "I don't know where Moltres is," said Ash "and even if I did I wouldn't tell you anyway".
At that moment Melody, Misty and Tracey arrived on the flying boat. "Hey what are you three doing here?" asked Ash, in surprise. "We were worried about you," answered Melody "and I do hope you're happy. If you just stayed at the party we wouldn't be in this prediction". "Yeah but if I did stay, the storm would have really gotten worse and then I wouldn't have been able to get to any of the three islands" Ash argued back.
Melody was just about to argue back, when a loud screech interrupted her. Everyone looked up at the sky and saw a massive, spike feathered bird, sending out bolts of electricity from its body. "It's Zapdos," Ash said in awe "but what's it doing here though?" Zapdos sent out bolts of lightning, hitting some stone pillars causing them to stone blue. Then Zapdos kept on flying around the top of the volcano, lighting up the ground and pillars with his electricity.
Pikachu bravely fired a weak bolt of electricity at Zapdos to get his attention. Zapdos ignored Pikachu and landed on the shrine. Pikachu tried to gain Zapdos's attention again. Zapdos just kept on screeching, while Pikachu was sending weak bolts of electric at him. "Pikachu's pretty tough," said Jessie "but Zapdos isn't feeling the attacks". "Those aren't attack Jessie," said Meowth "Pikachu is trying to talk to Zapdos. It's saying what are you doing here on Fire Island Zapdos? And where is Moltres?" Zapdos got Pikachu's attention that time and unleashed a bolt of electricity at Pikachu to answer his questions. "What's it saying Meowth?" asked James. "Zapdos is saying that Moltres used to rule here," said Meowth "but Moltres is now gone. So lightning will now rule over fire and I now claim this island as my own. It seems Moltres flew the coop".
Zapdos continued to unleash bolts of electricity. But then its electricity power began to get drawn into the sky. Everyone, including Zapdos, looked up at the sky, and there high in the clouds was Lawrence's flying ship. The gang and Team Rocket looked at the ship in awe; they had never seen anything like it. Lawrence's flying ship had lightning rods attached to it and the lightning rods did not only attract Zapdos's electricity, but it also drained Zapdos's electricity.
"Drained of its power," smirked Lawrence "now Zapdos will be an easy capture". He sent out the same electric rings he used to catch Moltres, and then Zapdos was captured in no time at all. But the electric rings not only captured Zapdos, but they also captured the gang and Team Rocket and the boat. Lawrence's computer informed Lawrence of that at once, and Lawrence decided to greet his unexpected guests.
A big room of Lawrence's ship was Lawrence's collection room, where he kept all his precious artifacts. Melody, the gang and Team Rocket were trapped in a cage, between Moltres and Zapdos, who were still trapped in their prisons. "Zapdos and Moltres" said Tracey in awe. Ash didn't like seeing the two birds in cages like that. Melody noticed a stone tablet and began to read it; "Disturb not the harmony of fire, ice or lightning, lest these titans wreak destruction upon the world in which they clash".
A big clanking noise gained everyone's attention and when they looked up, a metal center pillar started to sink into the ground. There on the top of the pillar, sitting in the chair, was Lawrence. "Welcome," he said, after the pillar got to the floor and getting out of the chair, "although this was unexpected. So what do you of my collection? Moltres the bird of fire and Zapdos the bird of lightning, but of course I'll need Articuno the bird of ice to complete the set". "You're disgusting!" interrupted Misty, with anger, "the way you talk, is like you only see pokemon to collect like dolls or stamps! What kind of trainer are you?" "I'm afraid I'm not a trainer young lady," said Lawrence "I'm a collector. I started off with a Mew card and now my collection has grown bigger and better". He let the humans out of the cage. "Legendary pokemon have always been my interest, and soon my collection will be legendary". Just then Lawrence's computer informed him of Articuno. "Now if you excuse me I have some work to complete now". He left the collection room by using the pillar, like an elevator.
Outside the weather was getting worse; a terrible blizzard was now happening, far worse than wind and rain. Articuno was flying around in the blizzard, screeching and firing ice beam attack everywhere.
A news reporter, with a cameraman, was broadcasting news in a helicopter. And televisions all over the world were showing off his news. Right now the news was showing off a map grid of Shamouti Island and the three elemental islands. "This map shows the area of Shamouti Island, the epicenter of this world-wide weather disaster" said the reporter. The news then showed videos of millions of pokemon. "As you can see now millions of pokemon are making their way to Shamouti Island, pokemon that can swim are coming by sea, pokemon that can fly are coming by air and those who can't swim or fly are massing on lands nearest the islands". Prof Oak, Prof Ivy and Delia were in the helicopter too. "Right now I have Prof Samuel Oak and Prof Philena Ivy with me, and they're here to hopefully shed some light on this phenomenon".
Prof Oak held a drawing of the elemental islands and a tri colored pen in his hands and used them to explain. "Near
Shamouti Islands are the islands of fire, ice lightning, which are home to the three legendary birds Moltres, Articuno and Zapdos," he said "and I fear they may be the cause of this weather disaster. You see ancient writings from different cultures have considered the area around the Fire and Ice Islands as the cradle of the ocean, most likely the source of all the oceans, since everyone knows that when you combine fire and ice together it makes water". "And what about the island of lightning?" asked the reporter. "Well I theorize that when our planet was still young, a chemical reaction caused when lightning struck volcanic sea water, started life on our world," said Prof Oak "I believe that the three legendary pokemon are connected to this. Using a magnetic pull to form currents under the formed ocean from fire and ice, it allows the elements to balance out and keep the weather system under control. And if the power of Moltres, Articuno and Zapdos have been disrupted, then it's conceivable that a powerful underwater current, known as the beast of the sea, will emerge from this region and ultimately flood the entire planet".
"The pokemon are gathering because they feel and sense this doom," said Prof Ivy "pokemon are in tune with the balance of nature. So they're gathering to correct this imbalance and try to save the planet, although they might not be able to do anything about it".
The news reporter saw Delia and asked her who she was. Delia spoke about the worry she had for her sons Ash and Tomo out in the storm, and about the worry she had of not seeing then again.
In the flying ship of Lawrence, the gang was watching everything happening outside from a window. Melody looked at the stone tablet again and read out the writing loud; "Disturb not the harmony of fire, ice or lightning, lest these titans wreak destruction upon the world in which they clash". Everyone else joined her at the tablet. "I think the ancient legend is coming true". "I think it is too," said Ash "I mean all of this started to happen when that man started capturing the legendary birds". "So it's all the man's fault that the whole world is in danger," said Tracey "and if this legend is true then everything and everyone on this planet will be destroyed".
The group looked at Zapdos and Moltres in their cages. "We need to set those two free" said Misty. Ash sent out his Espeon, Dragonair, Flareon and Ivysaur and ordered them and Pikachu to attack Moltres's prison. Tomo ordered his Growlithe to do the same. Moltres merely looked at what they were doing. Team Rocket used their pokemon Arbok and Weezing to attack Zapdos's prison.
Meanwhile Lawrence had started to go after Articuno; he was firing fire balls at Articuno to weaken it for an easy capture. Deep at the bottom of the ocean, a shadowy figure was swimming around and then spun itself into a swirling geyser while it started to swim to the surface.
Back with the group, they were still trying to break the cages. It wasn't easy to try and break the cages because the cages had some sort of electric force field had made them seem unbreakable. But at last with a few more attacks from Ash's and Tomo's pokemon, Moltres was set free from his prison. Then Moltres attacked Zapdos's cage, setting him free in the process. Zapdos and Moltres used their fire and lightning attacks to break free from Lawrence's ship and started to attack the ship. Lawrence saw the free Zapdos and Moltres and was surprised that they had escaped. When Zapdos and Moltres attacked the ship, they struck the propellers that made the ship fly, and then the ship made a crash landing on Lightning Island.
The ship started to break apart when it crash landed on Lightning Island, and Lawrence's collection started to fall out of the collection room and into the sea. Carol's boat fell out of the ship and onto the ocean as well. "We need to get out of here!" shouted Misty. She and the group ran down a metal barrier, which had smashed into the collection room earlier, and made their way of the ship. Ash noticed Lightning Island's shrine near a cliff and went to it at once. It was a small stone shrine like Fire Island's shrine and had a stone statue of Zapdos. A golden yellow glass sphere was in the stone Zapdos's beak and Ash pulled it out. A small yellow bolt of electricity appeared in the glass sphere when Ash held it.
As soon as Ash got the second sphere, Articuno appeared and he, Moltres and Zapdos started to fight with each other. "It's too dangerous to stay here," said Melody "we need to get onto the boat and leave now". Team Rocket and the gang agreed with Melody and they all went onto the boat at once. They were all scared of what was now happening. When Zapdos's lightning started to zap the area, it hit a cliff, causing the ice to giveaway and making water gush out. The flow of water caused the boat to move and sent it over the cliff, where down below was the frozen, icy, ocean. But before the boat could hit the icy ground, they were saved by a swirling geyser. Everyone was surprised that this swirling geyser had saved their lives. Melody heard a sound, an echoing moaning sound, which sounded a bit familiar to her.
The swirling geyser made its way and the boat to Shamouti Island. Team Rocket got out the life boat and they got off Carol's boat by using that. Soon the swirling geyser arrived at Shamouti Island; it brought them to the shrine of Shamouti Island. Bad news for the boat was that it fell of the cliff and crashed onto the icy ocean, breaking in the process. When the gang came to their senses they met Slowking. "Take the treasure and put in on the shrine" Slowking said to Ash. Ash was surprised that this Slowking could talk like a human. Pikachu reminded Ash of the treasures of fire and lightning in his pocket, and then made Ash follow him to the shrine house. Ash looked at the viewports of the shrine and saw the elemental islands in each of them. There was a small slot under the viewports, which, meant the three treasures had to be put in the slot of the right island. Ash placed the fire treasure in the slot for Fire Island and the lightning treasure in the slot for Lightning Island. "You are one treasure short Ash" said Slowking. "How do you know my name?" asked Ash. Before his question could be answered, they heard screeching in the sky.
Moltres, Zapdos and Articuno were breaking out into a big fight again, throwing flamethrower, thunderbolt and ice beam at each other. Ash hated this; he remembered the big fight between Mew and Mewtwo and he thought that this was worse. "Stop it!" he shouted running to the edge of the shrine. Suddenly the big swirling geyser appeared again, hitting the three birds. Just then the geyser broke apart and then a big, silver, with dark blue patterns, sort of bird and dragon appeared. "It's the great guardian Lugia" said Slowking. The humans and pokemon stared at Lugia in awe. Ash couldn't believe his eyes; Lugia was only found in the Johto region and nowhere else, so Ash was surprised to see one in the Orange Islands. Moltres, Zapdos and Articuno began to attack Lugia. Lugia didn't exactly attack back; what he did really was fly around to dodge the attacks and used whirlpool and safeguard to protect itself. But then the three birds suddenly succeeded of hurting Lugia with their attacks, and Lugia fell into the ocean, in pain. Slowking and the gang were in shock what they had seen. "This is bad" said Slowking. "Now what?" asked Melody.
Half a mile away from Shamouti Island and the elemental islands, millions and millions of pokemon arrived. As the oceans were now covered in ice, those who couldn't swim or fly could walk across the ice. "So many pokemon" said Ash in awe. "It's obvious they're here because of this disaster" said Tracey, who was looking at the pokemon through his binoculars.
"There is only one hope for this," said Slowking "only the chosen one can bring together the three treasures that help the water's great guardian". "But the legend said that its song will fail" said Melody. "And thus the earth shall turn to Ash" said Slowking, turning to Ash. "But how should we find the chosen one, when we don't know where to look?" asked Melody. "Wait a second," said Misty, putting two and two together, "it's written in the legend. The earth shall turn to Ash". "It's talking about you Ash" commented Tracey. "You mean I'm the chosen one?" asked Ash, in confusion. Pikachu
and Growlithe nodded, as if they knew all the time. "Wait a minute," said Ash, backing away nervously, "training pokemon is tough enough, but saving the world is really hard". "I know it's not easy Ash," said Tracey "but you're the only one who matches the legend perfectly. What do you say?" "Well right now I wish my mum hadn't named me Ash" said Ash. "Ash this whole thing is my fault," said Melody, feeling very guilty, "I never should have dragged you into this". "Well it is true that you're the one who picked me at the festival" said Ash.
Just then Melody remembered that the sound Lugia made was the same as the song from the legend. She took out her ocarina from her pocket and played the song. Down in the ocean, Lugia was still very hurt. But when melody played the song, Lugia began to glow and he started to wake up. He used the move whirlpool to come out of the ocean. "The song has restored my strength" said Lugia, in telepathy, "but the song alone cannot bring harmony to the three warring ones. When the treasures of fire, ice and lightning are aligned, my song shall harmonize with their powers and tame the beasts above and below the sea. But this can only happen with the help of the chosen one". But what can I do that nobody else can?" asked Ash. "Only in the hands of the true chosen one will the ice sphere glow like the others and awaken its powers" said Lugia. "That means I have to go to Ice Island and get the sphere from there" said Ash, nervously. "The choice is yours," said Lugia "you must go whatever your heart says". Ash looked at Ice Island in the distance nervously. Moltres, Zapdos and Articuno were fighting over there. Just then Pikachu and Growlithe tugged at Ash's jeans. "Pikachu" said Pikachu. "Growlithe" said Growlithe. They were saying "you can do it" to Ash. "You two think I can do it" asked Ash. Lapras, Espeon, Dragonair, Ivysaur and Flareon came out of their pokeballs to encourage Ash too.
Ash felt like crying because of all the encouragement he was getting from his pokemon and friends. "I've decided I'm going," said Ash, with confident, "Dragonair I need you to give me a lift to Ice Island". He returned his other four pokemon and got onto Dragonair's back. "Melody, Tomo, Misty and Tracey you stay here and I'll be back with the third treasure as quick as I can". Misty, Tomo, Tracey and Melody wished Ash a lot of luck, and then Ash, Pikachu and Dragonair set off for Ice Island at once. Lugia followed too to protect Ash from the three birds.
The helicopter, that was carrying Prof Oak, Prof Ivy, Delia and the news team, made it to Shamouti Island. But because of the terrible weather it got out of control and made a sort of crash landing at the cliff above Shamouti Island's shrine. Good news was that no one was hurt or killed, but the helicopter was damaged and the tail had broken off. Team Rocket saw everything and saw that the rotor of the helicopter's tail was still in good condition. "You know," said James "this rotor and the life boat can actually help us and the twerp". "I never thought I'd see the day when we bad guys help the good guys" said Meowth. "True but if the world does get destroyed," said Jessie "then both good guys and bad guys won't exist anymore and then what would we do?" "Good point" said Meowth. Then he and Jessie and James put their plan to action, by putting the rotor and life bat together.
Meanwhile, Ash, Pikachu, Dragonair and Lugia were still on their way to Ice Island. "We are halfway there" Ash said to Pikachu and Dragonair. Suddenly Moltres, Zapdos and Articuno began to attack the group. Pikachu and Dragonair used thunderbolt and dragon pulse attack to fight back, while Lugia used safeguard to block the bird's attacks and to defend the group. There was worse to come; when the three bird's attacks struck the ice big chunks of ice kept on flying towards Dragonair. Dragonair didn't like having big chunks of ice thrown at her, since Dragon types were weak against ice. Ash could see that Dragonair was having trouble flying with this. "Dragonair land us now" he said. Dragonair landed on the icy ground and Ash and Pikachu got off Dragonair's back, and Ash returned her. "We need to get to Ice Island another way" he said. "Well you're lucky that we are here twerp" said a voice behind him.
Ash turned round to see where the voice was coming from, and there behind him was Team Rocket. Team Rocket had fixed the helicopter's rotor to the lifeboat and now it was a motorboat. "Team Rocket?" said Ash "what are you doing here?" "We're here to help you get to Ice Island" said James. "You helping me save the world?" said Ash, in confusion, "that's hard to believe". "Listen twerp," said Jessie "we may be bad guys be we don't want the world destroyed either, especially since we were born and raised here. Besides if this world is destroyed then we would be out of work". Ash looked at Team Rocket then breathed a sigh. "All right," he said "I will accept your help, but only this once". Ash and Pikachu got onto the motorboat and they set off for Ice Island.
Moltres, Zapdos and Articuno did attack the group, but thanks to the rotor they finally got there before the birds could stop them. They rode the motorboat through a cave of Ice Island that went all the way up to the mountain peak. When Ash saw the shrine, he jumped off the motorboat to get the third treasure. Ice Island's shrine was the same as Fire and Lightning Island's shrines, but this time with a statue of Articuno. Ash took out the treasure from the beak as quick as he could, and an icy blue glow appeared in the sphere. "Time to head back to Shamouti Island" said Ash. He got back onto the motorboat, and he and Team Rocket were just about to leave, when the three legendary birds attacked them. The motorboat got hit by Zapdos's lightning and by Moltres's fire and was destroyed. When the birds attacked each other Articuno got zapped and burned by Zapdos and Moltres and fell to the ground in defeat. Ash felt sorry for Articuno, but knew that he had no time for pitying.
The group climbed up the peak and ran down the slope of the other side of the mountain. At the moment, Lugia flew down alongside them. "Have you got the treasure?" Lugia asked Ash. "Yes I do" said Ash, showing it to Lugia. "Get on" said Lugia, lowering his neck to Ash. Ash and Pikachu jumped onto Lugia's neck and Team Rocket grabbed onto Lugia's leg and they all set off for Shamouti Island at once. The problem was when Moltres and Zapdos attacked them, carrying three humans and two pokemon was slowing Lugia down when he was trying to dodge the attacks. Team Rocket noticed this and decided to do something about it. James put on his gadget glasses. "I see areas of the sea that we can land in" he said. "Great, so let's do it" said Jessie. Team Rocket let go of Lugia and began to fall. "What are you three doing?" gasped Ash, when he saw them. "Make sure that you do save the world twerp" said Meowth. Ash and Pikachu couldn't believe they did that. Jessie, James and Meowth did fall into the sea and then Jessie sent out her Arbok and Shellder to help them get back to Shamouti Island.
While Ash and Lugia were still flying towards Shamouti Island, Ash saw the millions of pokemon on the iced up sea. "Lugia, why are all those pokemon here?" asked Ash. "It's because they feel they must be here, in case they are needed" said Lugia. "But what can they do to help?" asked Ash. "They are not sure, which is why they are here" answered Lugia. "What do you mean?" asked Ash. "I mean that just one pokemon, out of thousands, that could help the world is worth the journey," said Lugia "but the only one that can make all the difference now is you". Ash nodded, understanding Lugia's words.
Ash and Lugia were just near Shamouti Island, when suddenly they were trapped by some big electrical triangles. The electric triangles came from Lawrence. Lawrence was still eager to catch Lugia and used his device to send the electric triangles to catch him; Lawrence's ship was not completely destroyed yet. The electric triangles were causing pain to both Lugia and Ash and it was preventing them from getting to Shamouti Island. Lugia fired his signature move, aeroblast, to break the trap and to destroy Lawrence's ship for good this time. Moltres and Zapdos got hit by the aeroblast too and they fell to the ground in defeat. Lugia's prison had caused so much pain through his bode, that he fell unconsciously into the sea, with Ash. Ash floated on top of the ocean, with Pikachu holding on to him. Lugia sank deeper into the sea, with his eyes closed in defeat. "I have failed" he said.
Tomo, Misty, Tracey and Melody saw everything that had happened. "Oh no big brother!" shouted Tomo. "Ash and Pikachu need help" said Tracey. At that moment, twisters and lightning bolts were appearing, meaning the storm was getting worse again. Misty handed Togepi to Melody. "Come on Tracey and Tomo," she said "let's help Ash". Tracey and Tomo nodded and they ran to the shore of the island. Misty tied a rope around her waist, jumped into the ocean and swam to where Ash and Pikachu were. "Hang on you two" she said, grabbing onto Ash. Misty tugged the rope and Tracey and Tomo pulled the rope to bring both of them to shore. Misty shook Ash to try to wake him up, and sure enough he did. Tomo, Tracey and Misty were relieved to see that he was okay. Ash tried to stand up to take the ice sphere to the shrine. He was still shaky and weak from what happened earlier, but with his friends support, he made it to the shrine.
Ash placed the ice sphere into the slot, and once he did that the spheres glowed red, yellow and blue inside the shrine, and then a green light appeared. The ancient carved writings on the shrine floor glowed green and then green water appeared out of the shrine and flowed to the seven stone pillars of the shrine. The water turned the stone pillars into sort of crystal pillars. "I think it's now the time you play the song" Misty said to Melody. Melody ran up to the shrine and played Lugia's song. (Lugia's song from the film) A different crystal pillar glowed in tune to the song, as if they were keys.
As Melody played the melody, Moltres, Zapdos and Articuno recovered from their fighting and flew into the sky in peace. The bad weather disappeared and the sun started to show itself again. The green water from Shamouti's shrine poured all over the ocean like oil and melted the ice, turning the sea back to normal. Lugia recovered too and came out of the sea at once. He flew to where Ash and the others were standing, landed in front of Ash and lowered his neck to tell Ash to get onto him. Ash and Pikachu climbed onto Lugia's back and together they took off into the sky. Suddenly a big underwater current, the beast of the sea, came out of the ocean and stretched globally like a rainbow. Lugia and the three legendary birds flew around the four islands and under the current together and in peace. The millions of pokemon retreated back to where they came from, swimming, flying and hitching rides. Ash smiled; he was happy that everything was back to normal at last. Tomo, Growlithe Misty, Togepi, Tracey and Slowking were happy too. As the song came to an end the ocean current went back into the sea and Moltres, Zapdos and Articuno went back to their islands. As Melody played the last note, the crystal pillars turned back into stone pillars, and Melody was relieved that the disaster was over at last.
Televisions all over the world showed reports about the weather disasters ending and about pokemon going back to their homes.
After everything settled down, Lugia was about to go back into the ocean. "The beast of the sea has been tamed," he said "the fate of the world could not have been in better hands. And now chosen one, I shall now present you your gift". "What gift?" asked Ash. Lugia bellowed and out from the ocean came another Lugia, only smaller. "It's a baby Lugia!" gasped Ash. "This baby Lugia is my son," said Lugia "and I leave him in your hands". "Wait, you mean you're giving this baby Lugia to me?" asked Ash. Melody, Misty, Tomo and Tracey were surprised by that. The baby flew over to Ash and nuzzled him. "This is the secret part of the legend," said Slowking "after the chosen one succeeds of saving the world the great guardian of the sea presents his offspring to the chosen one as a gift. And then it and the chosen one become partners for the rest of their lives". Ash couldn't believe his ears; the baby Lugia was to be his pokemon for life. Ash smiled and looked at Lugia. "Lugia I thank you," he said "and I promise you that I will take good care of your son and he will become a strong pokemon". Lugia nodded, wailed one more time and then dived back into the ocean. 'Goodbye Lugia' thought Ash, and gave his new baby Lugia a cuddle. Ash's baby Lugia couldn't speak like its father and was still a bit young to fly, but Ash was happy with his new pokemon.
Just then Ash and Tomo heard someone call out their names. Behind them was Delia, Prof Oak, Prof Ivy and the news coming running towards them. "It's mum!" said Ash and Tomo together. Delia ran up to Ash. "Okay start talking," she said, sternly, "you are in big trouble mister!" "Um excuse me Mrs. Ketchum," said Misty, nervously, "but Ash just helped save the whole world". "Oh really?" asked Delia "but I could have lost my whole world. Every day Ash I worry about you and Tomo and I wonder if you two are okay. I know very well I can't stop either of you from doing what you're doing, though I can't stop missing you both all the time. But please do me a favor, next time try to save the world closer to home and remember both of you is my hero my sons". "We will do and thanks mum" said Ash. "Thanks mum" smiled Tomo.
Prof Oak suddenly noticed the baby Lugia beside Ash. "Uh, Ash there is a Lugia beside you" he said. "I know," said Ash "and this baby Lugia is my new pokemon". Prof Oak and Prof Ivy couldn't believe it. "Seriously Ash you surprise me all the time" said Prof Oak. "Prof Oak would you mind looking after Lugia for me until I get back from the Orange Islands?" asked Ash. "Of course Ash, you can count on me" said Prof Oak. Ash explained to his baby Lugia about him being caught in a pokeball and going to Prof Oak's place until the Orange Island journey was over. Lugia nodded his head as understanding. Ash took out a pokeball from his rucksack and captured the Lugia easily. "You're in good hands Lugia" said Ash, as the pokeball disappeared to the lab.
So in the end, the disaster of the Orange Islands was under control again. No more disaster weathers and the legendary birds were in harmony again. Prof Oak and Delia went back to Pallet Town and Prof Ivy went back to her lab on Valencia Island. Melody went back to her home, where Carol had been waiting for her. And Ash, Tomo, Misty and Tracey continued their journey through the Orange Island.
As for Lawrence, who survived the destruction of the ship and had witnessed the real beast of the sea, he discovered his ancient Mew card and decided to build his collection again, but this time on a smaller scale and with nothing to do with catching legendary pokemon.
Sorry this took so long, but doing stories based on movies do take time. I decided to give Ash his own Lugia at the last minute, so I've added Lugia on chapter 28 and 29 of my 'Ash's pokemon journey' story. I know the shrines on Lightning and Ice Island were destroyed in the film, but I hate seeing ancient shrines and buildings being destroyed so I've kept them undamaged. Sorry to those who thought I would have Ash catch the Slowking or Legendary birds, but Guardian pokemon like them should never leave what they are guarding.
