Hiccup didn't know if the other teens saw him and Toothless spring into the air. He doubted whether it would matter based on what he was about to do as he and Toothless were now flying straight for Helhiems gate.
The billowing fog bank loomed in front of hiccup and Toothless. They turned into it and their visibility was immediately reduces to the immediate area around them. There was only grey, and darker grey where bizarrely shaped rock formations loomed.
Once again as they soared through the labyrinthine passage of sea stacks to the stark volcanic island wreathed in fog Hiccup was just as scared if not more scared as he had been last time coming to this desolate place
As soon as they reached their destination Hiccup could tell that something was amiss on the dragons nest island. From a distance it would appear to be dark clouds billowing quickly out of the volcano crevices and cone, but Hiccup realized those clouds to actually be the entire population of the dragons nest.
They pored out of the sheer black walls and cone of the volcano itself in fast moving bunches. Another clue that something was amiss was the fleet of Viking war vessels on the beach and the crowd of vikings celebrating their victory.
o
The vikings triumphant cheers turned to gasps as they realised that they had celebrated too soon when the immense cliff-face of the volcano exploded outwards, huge chunks of jagged rock hurtling through the air.
An unearthly roar blasted out of the hole the vikings had earlier made with the catapults they had brought with them. Those catapults would be of no further use. They wouldn't be able to so much as injure the giant dragon whose head had come out with it's body about to come out.
The brave viking warriors of Berk now ran screaming to their fleet of war vessels.
"No" bellowed Stoick. Almost no one heard him though as in the terror of the winged nightmare before them. many of his men had reverted back to primal instincts that told them only one thing; to run from the immeasurably collosal dragon behind them which had now completely cleared the rock wall of the volcano and was standing unopposed on the beach.
This was a big mistake as any logical thinker would know, and sure anough the great dragons blew a hurricane of flames which enveloped half the fleet of war vessels leaving their charred remains smouldering in the shallows.
Now the people were really starting to panic as not only were they faced with a dragon the size of a mountain. They were also stuck of a bleak and barren island with it and no shelter from the torrents of super-heated flames issuing from the beasts mouth.
o
As reluctant as he was to battle the nest queen, Hiccup knew he had to intervene or the entire able bodied population of Berk would be obliterated.
As badly as they had treated Hiccup over the years he wouldn't, couldn't see them all die meaningless deaths at the claws of a bloodthirsty nest tyrant.
So while the nest queen was distracted by the entire village at it's mercy Hiccup urged Toothless up the murky layer of clouds before diving down, a black blur against the backdrop of fog and smoke.
The blast lanced out of the darkness and moments later the nest queens head was wreathed in fire. Another unearthly roar escaped it's gaping mouth as it fell hard against the side of the volcano, sending a tremor through the ground which almost caused many vikings to lose their footing.
They thought the tremor was the impact of the queens fall but then another tremor came bigger than the last. This tremor actually did knock many of the vikings of their feet. Cracks started opening in the ground and the entire island shifted. Colossal chunks of rock split as the entire island moved up just a bit and was then plunged into the ocean.
Dragons are often unable to take of from the water. To gain flight from water they have to swim upwards fast and burst out of the water and even then it takes some serious flapping.
Most dragons knew how to swim so this was rarely a problem, but as a lazy murderous tyrant the nest queen had never had cause to try to swim before. Now as she was plunged under water with the unstable island she found just how hard it was and that flapping hard wouldn't be enough to get clear of the cold ocean which sucked her down to a watery grave.
o
The vikings however could swim. Discarding their weapons which weighed them down in the violent ocean, they set out to the half of their fleet which was still intact.
Now it was astonishment and disbelief etched in their faces and lay in their minds. Almost all of them had seen the human rider apon the black dragons back. Someone had come to their aid apon a Nightfury no less.
Stoick himself didn't know what to think. The thought that they had finally taken the dragons nest yet been saved by another dragon with a human rider no less was taking it's sweet old time to sink into his head.
His confusion was nothing then in comparison to what it became when the Nightfury and its rider landed directly in front of him.
His mouth opened and closed several times before he managed to croak out a single word. "Hiccup." His voice dripping with disbelief and his eyes begging for an explanation.
"Hey dad." Hiccup replied as if nothing had happened.
